Just poppin’ in really quick to share something spectacular… You can still leave a comment on the last post for the Evangeline drawing (for Monday). I am just unexpectedly sneaking in with a dreamy tid-bit… (Click on images to see better detail)
You see, the last few nights I have found myself twirling under the moonlight at midnight. And tonight has been extra wonderful. The breeze is warm, but has a tiny bit of a cool hue to it. It is cozy, and comforting. Then it picks up with a wind, and the dark trees billow and silhouette in a delightful wind dance. The scent of rain in the distance, envelopes your hair, and soothes the senses…
I have taken my camera with me night after night, to snap a few shots. The moon has been so big and so bright, it is illuminating everything with brightness. The clouds were so outrageous, I just couldn’t resist…
I just can not believe how astounding the clouds have been. It has been like a fake sky. Painted in by Michelangelo. Kind of like a Disneyland sky, too perfect for words… Bright white clouds, illuminated by the moon, with a sprinkling of twinkling stars. Just enough to cause a stir in the heart. Nature gives us such glorious gifts…
Clouds are my new passion. I have always loved them, but, I tell ya, they have been talking to me extra amounts lately… If you think about it, they carry more stories and secrets all over the globe than we can imagine… From way up high, to way down low… It’s all about clouds…
I will whisper my deepest secrets in the wind and watch it carry my secret up, where it will snuggle in between those moist beautiful couds, and begin its journey… We’ll see if a cloud carries my message to an open ear. You never know… Come on, you try it too. 1, 2…
An extra giant dark cloud has hovered above, night after night. Usually I sleep through the night like a log. I have slept through all sorts of havoc, including a 1992 California earthquake…
So last night was quite magical, when after going to bed at 9ish, I then awoke at 11:47 p.m. to find sky magic happening… I actually got out of bed, and went outside. After a few pictures, I went back to my bed, and fell right to sleep. About 2 hours later, I awoke to the song of giant raindrops and hail hitting my huge skylight… Blisssss…
Have you been embracing the moon wherever you are? Have you noticed extra lovely nights? I sure hope so!! Do share!
You know, wishes really do come true. So do fairytales. They just don’t always come true like we expect them to. I know, you already know this… But, I am just saying, pick your star, and throw that wish out there… You got nothing to lose… Just make sure you believe 😉
Sometimes, wishes can go out, and might take years and years to come true. That is, in human years. Which are probably milli-seconds in Star Years. Sometimes, wishes have to rippen up. And, if you push them too hard, they won’t turn out right. They will be sour, in fact 😉 So, let’s send them out, and then forget about them. And, if they come true, well, that is just the icing…
One more dance under the pale moonlight, and then, off to bed… I have over-extended my sleepyhead self and her fullest staying up capacity…
PS: OH! I saw the most touching Irish fable. I had to rewatch it, I loved it so much. It is more than charming. There were lots of tears and quivering lips over it… So so adorable! Why had I never seen it before? The Secret of Roan Inish…
Off to dreamland I go… 🖤 V 🖤 (don’t worry, it is not always dreams, sometimes I get a few wannabe Elf chompin’ Ogers, and stuff like that 😉 You know, just to spice things up…

What fabulous photos.
Alison
Vanessa, What lovely sky captures. No wonder you wanted to dance under the moon.
Karen
Vanessa, lovely, lovely clouds. I have been excited by clouds lately as well, however my pictures haven’t turned out so well…boo! Maybe I should try doing night shots. Congrats on the magazines — I enjoyed them both!
CRAZY!!!! I was out sitting on my patio for an hour last night at 11pm trying to capture the moon too!!! It is like we had the same night. The cool air was amazing after hot summer nights and the moon was just magical last night. My pictures were nothing compared to yours but still fun to capture such beauty.
I have loved out nights lately. It has been so hot during the day but so wonderfully cool at night. One of my favorite gifts! Amazing photos!
oh the Secret of Roan Inish is one of my favorites! I was in love with anything from the UK when I was in high school and that movie was magic. 🙂 I even have the soundtrack still.
I’m an upwards SKY LOVER too! Moon Dreams and CLOUDs are 2 of my FAV Things! I’m always telling my firends to LOOK UP!!!Have a peaceful Sunday sweet gal! and Thanks! for all the Beauty Full pics! xo, Cinda
I love that movie too and have been looking o own it! I’m also a lover of clouds and often will chase them in the car, finding the right spot to snap a picture of them.
Great photos! My camera doesn’t take good photos at night…it’s all darkness.
Sometimes I think about the moon and find it so amazing that though we all live in different places, in different times, we can all see the moon and stars all the same.
Oh my girl…. you have a passion much as mine… the moon…the moon… the clouds…the clouds…. such beauty in your pictures… sometime do share with me what type of camera you use as I am in the market for one.. Thanks for sharing the night with us…
VB
(aka ‘Lunata’)
…has danced with the ‘devil’ in the pale moonlight… : )
The moonlight has been calling to me too – though the sky has been sending most of her night clouds your way (I think she knows you will take a better picture of her 🙂
The Secret of Roan Inish has been one of my favorite movies for years. I hadn’t planned on a movie night – but now, I think I must watch it again tonight, before the moon comes calling…
Stunning photos!!! Just dreamy!
I wish, I wish upon a star… that the town lights would all go out so I COULD see the stars!
I long for country life so I can lie outside at night and watch the stars. Many a night I spent in childhood doing just that. So nice that you can do it for me and tell me about it. 🙂
I’ll have to look up that movie – haven’t heard of it before now.
xoxo

the nights when the moon absolutely lights up the night sky like it was almost daytime really amazes me. and even though it might be as bright as day, it’s different. it’s magical. i love hearing the breeze rustle through the leaves of the trees, listening to the night sounds… it is delightful. oh, and yes, the secret of roan inish is a wonderful movie! up till now i had not known anyone else who even knew what it was much less saw it! thank you for mentioning it. here’s to magical nights!
Clouds are one of my passions and probably my favourite thing to photograph. Everchanging and always interesting. 🙂
I especially noticed the Moon last night because of the Lunar Eclipse that was visible here. I took some pictures but they weren’t as good as yours. 🙂
I’ve seen that sky a few times this week. One night I almost thought it was October…very eeeerie… Come visit my stormy Sedona clouds.
Oh Vanessa – these photos are so magical! They make me smile. I agree on the clouds – they are wonderful!
Karla
I am an avid cloud watcher and always see images and shapes in them. Sometimes I will watch and watch the shape until the clouds move and slowly dissipate it. I love clouds against a deep blue sky, I love clouds seen from under a tree. It’s funny you posted this as I just had a discussion with someone very recently about clouds…..I could go on and on. Your night photos are amazing!
OH and I love The Secret of Roan Inish….I’ve seen it many times and still react the same. I love the wee boat/cradle.
Sorry, I went on and on.
XOXOXO
Vanessa, these clouds are really magic. The moon is pure bliss.
Great pictures!! My camera doesn’t take very good pictures at night. I have on many occasions awoken from sleep only to go out to our back patio and watch the stars, moon, and clouds. In Texas, we have a great big sky it seems to go on forever.
Kris
Oh your moon pictures are fabulous! I woke up at about 2:00 a.m. and the moon was so bright I almost had to shade my eyes. I would like to take moon pictures some day, however, I find it very hard to get out of bed at 2:00 a.m. Great pictures, thanks so much for the peek and the inspiring words.
I ADORE clouds too!! Am always looking and smiling…taking pics.
That moon has been amazing, I’ve got a pic courtesy of Mr R…
Night skies and clouds are such cherries on the cakes of our days. Aren’t they???
V, awesome photos deary poo!!!!
xoxo
Gorgeous, incredible photos of the night sky! I love the night sky and wishing on stars and have done so all my life. Alas, in the city we don’t get to see nearly enough of the stars (obscured by buildings and pollution). The most magical night skies I ever saw were in Tucson, Santa Fe and in the middle of the desert in Kuwait, the latter with a magnificient blanket of stars hovering over sand and shrub. These skies – such as the one you photographed – are always worth staying up (or waking up) for…xoxox
These photos are beautiful and magical! I am a strong beliver in wishing upon a star,
“If your heart is in your dreams
No request is to extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do”
Ned Washington
In the summertime, when I was a little girl, my four sisters and I would take arm loads of blankets, sheets, and pillows to the back yard. We would spread all the bedding out and camp outside looking at clouds just like this… sometimes it was perfect. (other times we got eaten by mosquitoes and went back inside ^_^ )
Beautiful photos!
too beautiful by far.
we would never get the chance to photograph such sights in my town!
and thanks to Kat, above, i too dearly want to go and lie beneath the stars, at night, with a few special people, my favourite blanket – and chocolate:)
Thanks for this magical post.
Love you
Jeanne
those are so comforting!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE them!! They bring me back to my little backyard garden at night when I was growing up….oh I miss it so!!
And the Secret of Roan Inish….AAAhhhh! I LOVE that movie….I was convinced I was a selkie when I was a senior in high school (that’s when I first saw this movie) and I really want all of those adorable little cotton frocks that Fiona wears…and the little t-strap maryjane shoes…..and the island cottage,too!! ; )
Happy Monday to Youuuuuu!
Astounding
I LOVE ThiS!!!! I adored the clouds as a little girl, and happily spent many hours laying on the lawn of grandparents ranch, beneath the wide, old oaks that lined the drive, and watched the clouds roll by. We imagines walking on the, and playing, wondering if they’d catch us as well romped and played. Thanks for bringing back such happy memories, and the reminder that the clouds are just a few steps outside my own front door!
I was under the moon on Friday and Mr. Knitsonya and I were talking about the difficulty of photographing it. Your photos are beautiful and magical!
Oh and the secret of Roan Inish is a favorite! Speaking of movies and starlight, have you seen Stardust?
Hello Vanessa,
Everytime I visit your amazing blog I find great stories! I loved this post about clouds…and you took amazing shots!
~ Gabriela ~
Last night, Vanessa, we were driving home late at night and we noticed a very yellowy faced moon that seemed especially enchanting…it was a very unusual moon!!
I have seen that movie, The secret of Roan Inish many moons ago with my mama…who loves Irish/English movies….it is an enchanting tale!
These pictures are really spectacular!
I purchased a copy of the “Artful Blogging” magazine and read your story. I loved “Perfect Puzzle”. Over the past few weeks I have thought a lot about starting a BLOG and was wondering if you could offer me some advice. I am most concerned about the “Writing Part” and putting my thoughts out there for everyone to see. What level should I purchase?
How wonderful for you….to be featured in their beautiful issue.
Sent Email!
Thank you, Debra
Waving at you Vanessa!
I love the words you use…twirling, billow, outrageous, bliss, snuggle, sprinkling, havoc…
Another good word is codswallop!
I’ve been cloud-dreaming a lot this year, the wonders of being ill, I have lots of time to watch and drift with them. They are quite frantic these days with the winds blowing in, funneling in, swooping in…what is with all these winds?!! It’s like something big is coming…
What could it be Vanessa?!
Sueyx
i think its something about the Arizona sky….I have never taken so many pictures of clouds until I moved here. My Sweetie says I am a gonna be that crazy great grandma who wants everybody to look at all her clouds pictures. I think he may be right….
Alright Ms. V.~~~
I just got chills, not only have my daughter & I been super admiring the clouds lately. They have just been beautiful at night. And, Rowan, has been sending up her wishes, Star Light, Star Bright….But~~~WE just watched
The Secret of Roan Inish last week for the first time! I loved it so much. I watched twice, one after another. I loved it so much I took it to my little Mommy to watch. She loved it too.I wanted to find that Island in Ireland & go live there. I loved that little girl, the way she & her cousin cleaned up those cottages & her love for her little baby brother.
After it was over & the lovely Irish music was playing, I looked at my girls & asked…”Instead of ballet & tap this year, how do you feel about taking Celtic Dance classes?” They want too!… I told them Celtic Dance will serve them better threw their lives. Just think being able to dance
an Irish jig in an open field with the wind blowing in their hair, anytime they want.Even when they get older…like me.They have the Irish in their blood.
I reluctantly returned our copy to Netflix today, promising myself I would order my own copy.
Now, is that not amazing?
~~~Hugs~Amy~~~
I have been having the worst time sleeping as of late…it must be the moon! Sometimes I forget what’s going on in the sky…I am with you on the clouds! When I first met Rich, he used to laugh and laugh at me because of my fascination with the clouds, he would say, “sadira. There are clouds everywhere.” in a very serious voice…Now that he’s lived in Arizona for more than a year? I have noticed his fascination with clouds has grown exponentially…silly boys.
Ooooh…pretty pretty. You sure can work some magic with that camera, Miss V. THose are some of the nicest clouds I’ve seen. I always try to get the moon in all its glory, but it ends up looking like a sad, shrively dot. I’ve decided to only remember special moons in my head.
Vanessa,
Your photos are transcendent! I have always had a special affinity for the moon. This past week I noticed that at 2:36 a.m. the clock on my computer matched the exact moment the moon became full. After my father and husband died, I felt that the moon became their home.
Thank you!
have you ever read When the Sky is Like Lace” (Elinor Lander Horwitz). your words today made me think you should just jump into the pages of this story. i often wish to. she calls the sky bimulous – a children’s picture book that i love to read to my two small girls. i am a new reader to your pages and have only read a few posts but have fallen completely into your way of floating through life. thank you. Sharon
“Because on bimulous nights when the sky is like lace, the trees eucalyptus back and forth, forth and back, swishing and swaying, swaying and swishing — in the fern-deep grove at the midnight end of the garden.
You will also find that, on bimulous nights when the sky is like lace, the grass is like gooseberry jam. It’s not really squooshy like jam, because then the otters’ feet would slurp around and snails might drown. It only smells like gooseberry jam. But if you walk barefoot, it feels like the velvet inside a very old violin case.” … sigh
I love Roan Inish! Great movie. Have you seen Nanny McPhee? It’s a great one that I originally passed up-I’m so glad my daughter forced me to watch it with her. Get it-the eye candy alone is worth it.
