Hola and Heloo!

Hi friendssssss!  I missed being here.  I have had the most crazy wacky outrageously busy week, and have been out and about running errands, more than ever (oddly, nothing Christmas related).  So I feel slightly out of the loop.  I so missed this lovely little world we share.

Holiday 2010

I am cleaning and painting today (my sis is coming for a visit in a couple of days, yay!), and so, I have to run and mind my chores.

But, I have been meaning to tell you a story for ages and ages.

It was Holiday 2009.

My beloved friend Laura had sent homemade, beautiful chocolate covered caramels.

I ate one, they were mind blowingly splendiforous.

Then I put them in the middle of the dining table and went to make coffee.

A few minutes later, with a cup of hot coffee, I walked over to grab a confection, only to find that they were gone.  I yelled at Mister Lovee, telling him how rotten he was to not save me even a bite of one (he is known for such antics).

He looked at me quizzically.

It wasn't him who gobbled them.

We both knew what that meant.

So, we both looked for Matty.

(picture below is from today, while he was doing back flips)

Matty chocolate 1

Matty's face was covered in chocolate.

And, the pretty chocolate wrapping was by his side.

I went bonkers, because they tell you chocolate can kill dogs.

Which it can, but after doing some research and talking to the vet, it turns out it has to be more than he gobbled.

Phew.

But, he did get extra hyper.

🙂

We learned our lesson.

No chocolate can be left unattended.

Here is the video I took December 2009, after Matty had eaten all of the chocolates, and we knew he would be okay.

(I love how he looks side to side when I say "and now look")

I love this crazy monkey.

He is my 24/7, partner in crime.

Aren't I super annoying?

I know, I know.

At least I am totally aware of it  😉

Matty chocolate 2

This is him making faces at me 🙂

I guess I best be off.

More super soon.

I did a little holiday decor a couple weeks ago, and want to do more tonight.

Oh, and a cold front came in.

Monday it was a high of 85' F

Yesterday 63'F

Today, I am not sure, but there are big fluffy clouds in the sky, and snow on the mountains.

That's Southern Arizona for ya.

Love it.

🖤 ,V

ps:  Oops, maybe it was February (Valentine's) that Matty ate Laura's chocolates? and not December?  Either way, the story still stands.  Even though the date may be wrong, haha

  1. Poor dogs. They are like butlers ~ everyone thinks they did it! : ) He is too cute. Do you think he was agreeing with you when you were calling him “wild”?

  2. Amy Boelter says:

What a cute video! I love dogs, I have a bassett hound named Daisy Mae. Im glad Matty was ok. Amy

  3. chrissi says:

So darn cute, I love Mr. Matty and I love to hear your little voice! It’s all drizzly in L.V. right now and almost time to go home and put on my Lanz nightie and get cozy….. Hugs to you and your fur baby…. Chrissi

  4. Theresa says:

Oh this made me laugh! What a mischievous pup! I remember several years ago, when our Sophie was still alive. Sophie was probably the hungriest dog alive – there was never enough food for her. Well, one day I made a batch of brownies for the hubby and came home after work only to find they were not where I left them. I asked the hubby “where are the brownies?” Hubby looked at my sheepishly and advised me that Sophie had eaten them – foil and all! She pretty much just laid on the floor that night with a very full belly. LOL My little boy Neo got into some loose leaf tea – and he pretty much ran in circles like Mr. Matty here. LOL Thanks for sharing such beautiful photos of your boy. He has grown up to be so very handsome! xoxo Theresa

  5. Teri says:

Hehehe! I love your story and video of hyper Matty! She is so cute!!! And dog/love stories are never annoying!

  6. Oh those chocolates sounds divine, and I really enjoyed hearing about how Mattie ate them! The video is so cute!
I have two little Yorkie sisters, Emma and Betsy, and they are little angels! They are so tiny it would only take a little chocolate to hurt them, so we are very careful. Good thing Mattie is a good size and that he was not harmed.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Hugs,
    Terri

  7. Renee says:

Mattie just makes me want to rub his chin:) He’s adorable. I’d always heard that about chocolate. I’m glad it takes a lot more to harm them and he was okay.

  8. Chris says:

How Amazing is this movie!? I love Matty! I’m glad he didn’t eat too much.
We got the salted chocolate caramels from Trader Joe’s and I tell you–never again! A person can’t stop eating them! it’s impossible!!!
i’m a little hyper now, gotta go.

  9. Linda Diane says:

I loved the Matty video. Not annoying at all! Your interaction was quite cute! All of us dog lovers out here can totally relate to the puppy/mama conversations. I just love the upside down picture of Matty with his eyes closed. He looks sooooo sweet.

  10. Jill James says:

At least Matty has good taste and only eats homemade, labor intensive candies! (made by the beautiful & multitalented Laura) Matty knows a good thing…..

  11. My dog once at an entire large chocolate easter bunny my boyfriend left in his easter basket on the floor. I was soooo mad at him. He lied and said he’d eaten the whole thing..but I knew better. And she was fine. But it scared me so bad. Your dog is darling! He is a love…who could deny him a chocolate or two.
You know grapes and raisins are extremely dangerous for dogs to eat…just thought I’d pass that info on.

  12. Haaa!!!
Just popping in to say HOOOONNNNNKKKKKKKKK!!!

  13. Rhonda Roo says:

He looks soooo remorseful in the video for eating the Lovely Laura’s delicious chocolate caramels too–NOT! Hee 🙂
He’s so darn CUTE. I’d give him a steak if he looked at me with that sweet furry face.
    Video=adorable! 🙂
    XOXOXOXOXOXVIIIXOXOXOROOOOOOO

  14. You crack me up and Matty is adorable!
    Happy Holidays to you!

  15. Laura says:

    Hello Sweet V!
    That naughty, naughty boy.
I remember that video! Violet sat on my lap and laughed until she drooled and screamed “DOAG! DOAG!!!! ‘Gin”…as in PlayItAgainMama.
I didn’t make any chocolates this year, but when I do I’ll ship them your way. In Matty resistant packaging.

  16. BumbleVee says:

lucky you…. your sis for Christmas…….

  17. Brielle says:

Thanks for sharing, oh so glad Matty was ok! I am sure he enjoyed every bit of that chocolate though.
Your blog is always so much fun to read, thank your for posting what you love.
Your art is always great to see, and these kinds of fun posts are always a favorite of mine..ok..enough gushing! thanks for this fun little spot 🙂 It always brightens my day.

  18. Alia says:

What a naughty boy eating all your chocolates! I am glad he was okay though. He is so adorable. Did you have all that fog yesterday? Down in Tucson it was super cloudy and foggy in the morning (which is the kind of weather that we would be having in Oregon this time of year) and then when I flew into Portland (I am in OR now for Christmas) it was totally clear and sunny! I was like what is this opposite day?! (I do love fog though).

  19. phyllis says:

Oh Matty we are kindred spirits!!!
Today I thought of you V, b/c I saw the displays of mi amigas’ santos con flores with light strung around oohhhh so pretty and knew that you must have grown up seeing these displays.
I know a lady who has a really old saint (chalkware I think) and I might go offer her some dinero to get it 😉

  20. Amalia K says:

Super cute pup, Vanessa! Dogs are the best, aren’t they? (^_^)
Oh, and I totally LOVE your new painting! It’s stupendous!!
    Have a wonderful holiday… ox

  21. Katharine says:

Every year we would go to Midnight Christmas Eve service and every year my mom would leave the chocolate kisses in red and green wrapping out. Well…Buffy our little teri-poo would eat all the chocolate and we’d find little wrappings all over the house. She fed her cheese every day too. It’s amazing because Buffy lived to be 16 years old. I guess she was a tough little girl.

  22. adorable – our Dusty sleeps upside down, too. When he was little, I was afraid it meant that he was mentally handicapped or something – LOL. But, then I found out that it’s a sign that the dog is feels ultimately safe. So now I feel good when I see it.
With me around you wouldn’t have to blame Matty when chocolates go missing. It would most assuredly be me!
Did you make the copper snowflake ornament in the top photo? – it’s loverly!

  23. Hola and Heloo!
    yourself, missy!
    worry not
    about mixing
    christmas day goodness
    with
    valentine’s day goodness
i do it all the time
    🙂
    am eating chocolate hearts
    NOW
    even as i type this!!!!!
    🖤

  24. stephanie says:

They are the BEST!! these furry friends of ours!!
    x..x

  25. Melanie says:

At first I gasped “oh, not chocolate” then this post tickled me so much, I lover hyper Matty in the video 😉
I knew a greyhound that ate a whole kilo of the stuff ended up wired beyond wired and spent the next day on a drip! These naughty doggies!!

  26. What a little stinker 😉 But he’s just too cute to get mad at, tee hee.
We had a jack Russell years ago that ate 2 chocolate covered chocolate donuts off of the table in the middle of the night and he woke us up bouncing on and off the bed and through the house. He couldn’t sit still for almost 24 hours…it was so crazy!!
Can you believe it’s Christmas week?! Aahhhh…
    Hugs,
    Jamie 🙂

  27. GG Pinkster says:

2 whistles have called into one-
The moments of running and fun.
I sit with the winds to my back
Remembering in silence woofy kissy smacks.
I laugh and cry only because
The winds whistle hello and good bye,
As the little seeds float bye, falling around
    Swimming in listening sound.
    Memories of pups
Your Babe, Maui Boy and Maxine too- over
    Rainbow bridge swimming colors salute.
    Rabbit solstice moon,
Cheers and Blessings singing winter-tides tune.

  28. AHahaha! He’s a little devil for eating your treats. One can’t help but love him (and you too) though…so cute.

  29. Jacqueline says:

Being the mother of three pups, I get it…and I’ve been there! Wink!
Just stopping by to wish you a beautiful Christmas week with much joy and love!
You would enjoy the paintings on my blog today from The Village of Snowdrift at tribute to The Polar Express!
