Through the Trees {a painting}

How to tell you about this place?  This place called, Through the Trees

Through the trees 4 blog

A place I hold in the depths of my imagination.  A place I long to escape to.  A place so magical and enchanted, that only in dreams, can we venture there…

About 7 years ago, I had a certain dream.  In this dream, I saw the most beautiful cloud filled sky, illuminated by lights glowing in the distance.

There was a full moon, and the stars almost winked when they twinkled.

I saw a hill, covered in trees.

And, in this dream, the leaves fell off of the trees in one fell swoop, and fluttered away like birds.

Coming from beyond the trees, way in the distance, I could hear music and laughter.

I could hear a carousel, and the crackling of popcorn.

I could almost smell cotton candy.

I closed my eyes, and I saw the most magical place ever.

A place I can not describe.

It was like a carnival village, or even an old fashioned fair…

Everything sparkled and glowed.

I felt the purest childlike happiness in my heart.

The happiness made me feel like I could fly.

People were in costume, and it seemed like it could have been 100 years ago, or longer.

There were little pastry shops and candy stands, bursting with goodness.

Old fashioned treats and song everywhere.

Masks and dance.

Jugglers and magicians.

A puppeteer and his incredible theater.

It was so enchanting, that I can not find the words to describe it all.

But perhaps, you know of this place as well?

Now, in this dream I speak of, as I stood looking through the tree grove –

I saw two people emerge, who had been at the magical place beyond the trees…

They seemed to be dressed up, maybe even in costume.

And the only sign, telling me they had been there,

was the lollipop carried by the lass, and the balloon carried by the lad.

They had been there.

To that place.

And I knew, they held delightment filled secrets, gathered…

I started this piece in my mind, years ago.  But it wasn't until this past summer that I began sketching and painting it.

Through the Trees will be a series.

A place I would like to visit often.

And, who knows who else we might spot, coming back from their adventures…?

ps:  My brother and I have been working on music for this series for several months.  He moved to LA and is super busy filming.  He actually finished a small piece to it early on, but we plan to work more on it in the coming weeks.  Here are some snippets of songs  he has composed for some of my work.  (we are also working on a cd, so we can share some of our music in 2011, with new songs by both him and I)

I love this painting and your description of your dream. Some dreams are just so real and magical that they stay with you. I had a dream like that the other night which I just had to write down as soon as I woke up. It was one of those dreams where you wake up smiling. I can see it in my head and would love to paint it like you have done. I sometimes sketch scenes from dreams but have only painted one. I look forward to hearing your music but will look tomorrow as nearly bed time now. Your post has popped up here at 22.45-I wonder what time it is in Arizona-the same thing happened last night!

  2. Oh Vanessa…
This painting has stolen my heart!! The story and the painting….I want to be in THAT world. I adore the wee lad and lass. Oh Vanessa…those clouds!! They are amazing and I am in LOVE with those clouds. OH how I wish I had a secret stash of money to buy this painting for myself. But alas ~ I do not. Maybe, someday, it might be offered in print form…

Hi, Vanessa! How neat that you created a painting based on a dream, and to think that you had the dream about 7 years ago! Wow, it obviously had a profound impact on you and must have seemed so real. The painting is beautiful and makes me wish I could jump in and go to that magical place through the trees . . . .
