Grab a small cup of tea and have a chat with me. A little company, and a bit of support.
You see, I am living in a very hot place & it is taking its mighty toll on me. Tomorrow the temperature will be 115' F (46' C) and rising for Wednesday. In the local parking lots, covered in asphalt, you can be sure you might even find 130' F (54' C). For some reason the heat feels worse than ever. Even the cold water setting gives me warm water. How are you handling the heat? Or cold if on the other side of the globe? I can't wait for Monsoon season, when the skies open up here. I took this photo last monsoon season, right from my front yard…
You see, I have been staying at the loftish space & studio to do art. Sadly, the air conditioning did not get completed in time, in my new private space. So, I am making the insane attempt to stay in a non air-conditioned loftish space, in this heat (difference between home and loftish/Studio space explained here….). I might have to pack it up and go to my in town home. Luckily, I am typing to you from the main part of the house in the hills, and my desk is in a nicely cooled space.
Today I dragged myself downtown, to the pottery studio. I might have to go there and create, as it is a tad bit cooler. It is probably a good thing, seeing as how, November's show will be here before I know it. Time flies when preparing for art shows….
The following photos are of the Romero House pottery studio. I have been a part of this wonderful place for 6 years. It is part of the Tucson Museum of Art.
Looks like I should just jump in. No more whining about the heat… After looking at these pictures, I have realized, I have a lot of work to do… Including making more of these Jelly Bean Holder Heads…
Off I go, to create. I love getting my hands dirty…
You see, a cup of tea and a chat with you made me feel all better… I told you I wasn't all that tall… Hehehe. Okay Okay, I confess, that is not really me… Just a little helper…. Although, I would love to be 4 years old.

Okay…vanessa…i will never again complain about the 100 degree heat here. 108 for 4th of July…Can I whine just a little bit? I will be looking like your jelly bean head by the end of the afternoon.
OUCH that is HOT! We will be hitting the low 90’s here for the next 3 days, but the humidity is what kills. (I move here from a dry dusty place.)Your Jelly Bean holder is so, well just Awesome. You are so creative! Stay cool, and have a fun 4th!
🙂 a cup of tea? sure!!!!! I have tons of different ones like:
In the mood for love
Songes d’une nuit d’été
Margaret’s hope or
Lapsang Souchon
with scones? or my special chocolate tea biscuits
And you better come here because is pouring rain and cold and it is SUPPOSED to be summer….
Wow it does sound hot!! Here it is cold… and our heater is broken, so I’m stealing a little bit of your hot weather and I’ll do my best to send you a cool breeze!
I don’t believe I’ve ever experienced weather hotter than 110 degrees…poor you! I hope you find lots of inspiration in the pottery studio, it looks like a lot of fun!
I could not deal with your heat I think….but strangely in Ohio is gets very hot and very very humid…big city Columbus is in a valley so during the summer the smog hangs thick in the air and never leaves…it’s not good.
My studio has no ac…though my bedroom does, so I have been sneaking in here and reading and napping…it’s the only way to survive.
I was barely coping with the nasty humid heat here. Lots of iced coffee helps. And now I always carry little hankies with me for mopping up the sweat that constantly pours off me! I don’t imagine that being near a kiln helps to beat the heat much. 🙂
Thank You kindly for the tea….it was much needed! I am 4 years old eternally….or is it 6? No matter!
I am not handling the heat at all gracefully….and it is only in the 90’s here….but ever so humid. I’m wilting…but the grass is growing past my ankles! 🙂
oh i loved visiting the studio/loft…what a dreamy place…i hope to have a studio/gallery someday soon for my work…blessings, rebecca
Nasty horrid heat! We never “technically” get that high here, but we have disgustingly high humidity, so when it gets up into the high 90’s/ low 100’s, it gets so awful outside that it’s hard to breath…i liken it to wrapping a big thick wool scarf that is soaked in hot water around your entire head. That’s what SC summer is like! 😛
Stay in that lovely cool-looking pottery studio and sip something icy til you feel all better! I am so excited to see the new jellybean lady….i just love when you make those! 🙂
The pottery studio looks fabulous, although the top kiln looks a bit like a torture dungeon. Or, maybe I’m the only one who thinks that. Maybe I watch too much CSI. Oh wait… I KNOW I watch too much CSI!
The heat is horrible here too but not as high as there. The thing that makes it so bad here is the humidity. Argh! It is damp, sticky heat and just miserable. I can’t wait for fall, my FAVORITE-EVER season, even though my birthday is in summer. I do love my birthday. 🙂
Love the Jellybean holder. Can’t wait to see more of your magical creations!
xo,
Karen Beth 🙂
Maybe if you bought a tarp, you could do some creating in the cool part of the house and just cart things back and forth? I do that sometimes. I want your tea set, by the way. I know if I ever come to your house, I’m going to want to steal half of your stuff! But then your house would be less cluttered and you could get more stuff. So my thievery would actually be beneficial! Right?
I was thinking the heat must be affecting you so much…you shrunk! I tell you, I’ve been a bit wilty myself, and it’s not near as hot up here as it is down there. Only 104 on the 4th (yay) At least it cools down into the 60’s in the evenings here, so I can mostly live without an air conditioner in the house…
Oh, the monsoons are right around the corner right? It’s time to pull out all the stops and start our annual rain dances!
Oh sweet Vanessa, I wish I could blow some of the rains we have been getting in Texas your way to cool you off.
there is a wonderful poem by shel silverstein that came to mind about being too hot- but a google search couldn’t find it for you–
so here is another one appropriate for my neck of the woods to give you a smile.
Rain by Shel Silverstein
I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.
I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can’t do a handstand–
I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said–
I’m just not the same since there’s rain in my head.
I hope that’s ice tea we’re drinking!!
I’m an oddity–I adore the sweltering heat… and, living here in the NW never see it. People start complaining about the “heat” when it hits the high 70’s. Makes a girl shake her head. Anyhow, I hope you “weather” it (oooh, bad Wende!) well…
Seems to me like the most excellent time for a road trip to some place cooler. 😀
I love that picture of the beautiful monsoon sky. If we can only spread the extreme weather around the world, maybe we’d get warm weather all year 🙂 So far in the UK, it’s been raining non-stop hence the flooding in several places. I would love to try my hands on some pottery, it looks very interesting and fun too! Can I be your little helper? 🙂
The rain here has been pretty much non-stop.It matches my mood as late, sorry I’ve been out of touch. I recomend ice-coffee,or iced diet red-bull.

I love the jellybean head!
Sorry about the heat…well, guess you and Mr. Lovee are gonna hafta move here and live 🙂
It usually doesn’t get up to 100…maybe a day or two all summer.
Come on over for a visit and see how I am dealing with the heat…although not as severe heat as you have, but still, it may help cool you off 🙂

Dear Ms. Fanciful,
If you are unable to follow Stephanie’s lead I have another suggestion. Freeze those blue plastic ice pack thingies. Take one and wrap a thin cotton kitchen towel around it, then stick it on your lower back in between your waist band and your back.
When it’s not cold anymore, replace it with a frozen one. It helps! But I’ve never lived where it is quite as hot as where you are now.
Thanks for the tea!
Tea and a chat? Yes please. As for the monsoon season I think we are in the middle of it!
As Caty told you, it’s cold (and raining) here, when it’s supposed to be warm. No doubt a heatwave like yours is just around the corner for us. Sounds like you might need to stay at the house in town w/ ac, at least until things cool down. How you can create in such heat is beyond me! My brain would be incapable of creativity. But one trick to beat the heat – fill a stoneware mug with ice cubes and hold it against your temples from time to time and rub it on your wrists. It really helps – this is what worked for me in the heatwave in August 2003 (sans air-conditioning) in Europe. Hope the heat eases soon! xo
I do not know how you can take that kind of heat!! It gets very hot and humid here…in the triple digits with tons of wet humidity! I cry sometimes it gets so damn hot! For some reason it was quite nice yesterday and today! THe real heat hasn’t started yet….Love the shots of the pottery!
Oh wow…that is a great place!!!
that jelly bean head is marvelous!
the tea set is beautiful! aye chihuahua! 108, that’s HOT! come to my house…we are ‘hot’…it was in the mid 80’s yesterday! (we are wimps when it comes to heat!) hey, you can just put the pottery outside, and maybe it will fire, no need for the kiln!!! lol! both of your ‘spaces’ look enchanting to me! i think i would be wandering and looking for hours! (or days!) have a wonderful holiday vanessa! (and you too, mr lovee!)
wow it is really hot there.here it is 40 thanks for checking out my art. glad you like it.
boone
Thanks for the tea! 🙂
Your work looks AMAZING, and wow – that is a gorgeous studio to work in. I love the beautiful aged kilns. Your little helper is a cutie, too!
occasional cold showers work for me interspersed with hot sweaty Bikram yoga in the 105 degree garage – and LOTS of water…
sending cool waves from Vermont

How much tea does that gorgeous tea service serve? i’m guessing it’s a minature set, but how adorable it is?
I love little 4 year old helpers, so cute!!
The heat? None here for the past week, just mild summer weather and rain…a lovely respite! I’m loving it! That is sooooo funny, the dogs expression when you took over her spa…and poor Lovee’s cheeks!!! Hope he is all better now! bad scorpion!!
