The girl of a thousand projects (all going at once) rested her head in a big fluffy white bed, at the end of a long busy day. Her dreams fluttered around and played crazy little games. The stories in her dreams had strange twists and turns, and could in fact be quite exhausting - and yet were welcomed for being so exciting…
So, she snoozed on and on as night turned to day, and awoke her with crashes and thuds. A wild wind danced around as trees swayed with great gusto and a windmill outside creaked as it turned at top speeds.
Autumn had arrived, yes. Yes indeed…
She slowly came to life, opening her eyes, her body aching from days of hard work. Then she heard a strange sound. Stranger than words, an animal? A cry? She grabbed her camera, just in case, and raced out of bed, bumping into things and tripping with that morning groggy head…
Why, it was…
A raven. Quite large.
Oh, how Edgar Allen Poe she thought, as she curiously grinned, then whispered the words –
Oh Autumn, you humor me so…
The raven looked her right in the eye and let out a bizarre little cry. She was sure he said, "Well, hello…"
He flew all around her then swooped down quite low, and she knew, this season was bound to be more than magical…
She skipped over to her her radishes and bell peppers and baby cantaloupes. Good Morning Babies, she called out, as she did every day. And then gasped in sheer dismay…
It was as if they had never existed. Those babied beloved plants. Vanished over night.
Mister Orange Eyed bird (who is ever so nosy) flew over to his regular branch and sang the most precious tune…
The girl sighed, but before she could even think to cry for her wee little garden, she spotted two rabbits, skinny as could be. And thought, well I hope it was those two, who had a great feast. Poor little skinny cottontails…
And she let it go.
Letting go, is that September's lesson? It certainly seems so. It brings a sense of calm with it…
So, with that, we Welcome Autumn and all the scents of spices and the tinges of crisp cool air it brings.
Tonight, we light the first candle in the wee little office, sitting room, cozy space, packaging area. Just a few more days of hard work for the space to be complete, so close!!
Then it is back to play time 😉
🖤, V
ps: If you signed up for the Halloween Party and don't see your name on the list, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am a one woman show, and am bound to make a mistake or two ;)
pss: I will keep the potion labels stocked in my shop, and will be shipping them out as quickly as can be, so you can have time to play 😉

Oh my Fanciful little friend I’m so sorry about your little baby vegetables, but I’m sure your weence buns enjoyed the flavorful feast. Little buns should be fluffy for fall frolicking and festivities. If you put treats out everyday they will perform their sweet little bunny jigs and dance over to visit.
gotta run…xoxo Cori
I do welcome Autumn and do enjoy the little rabs. “How tasty this is,” I hear them sing. “Thank you, thank you!”
Cori is right about their daily visits and dancing. Enjoy, but watch out for more!
Love the raven, evermore!
Take care!

How sweet of your garden to feed the little bunnies. Enjoying your blog immensely.
Happy Autumn, Vanessa. I have been thinking about Ravens a lot. I want them to have a special place for my Halloween Party. Just trying to figure out how.
I do I wish I had a bird to sing to me. Instead I have a tuxedo cat who loves to tap me with her paws and loudly meow in my ear. I still love her anyway.
You didn’t’ REALLY take those photos, did you? They’re too perfect.
Wait a sec.
I take that back. Of COURSE you did. Perfect is as perfect does. And by the looks of you, perfection is your middle name.
As for your garden, thanks for forgiving the poor rabbits. There is nothing sadder in the world than hungry bunnies.
Good day, morning or evening.
Okay, so this comment doesn’t really have anything to do with this post but I thought I’d tell you this.
I actually dreamed of you last night (that sounds sooo creepy, but I hope I don’t scare you.) So, I was visiting you (I’ve always wanted to meet you ’cause you seem like such a nice person and we seem to be so much alike. Sometimes I imagine that I’ll be like you when I “grow-upâ€.) So there I was in your house. I don’t know why I visited you, but it was me and another girl who was allowed. First I met your Mister Lovee. He was so nice. (: Then you came in (she, didn’t look like you though) and you where all “I think I’m fat.” (You’re not if you think you are 😉 ) And Mister Lovee was all “nooo, you’re noot. You look lovely. I love you. You’re not.†And you were both talking Norwegian! (my mother tongue). Well, I think the point is: In case you didn’t know, Mister Lovee loves you very much. xD
And later in the dream I lost parts of my orthodontics, so I dream a lot of weird stuff. But it was sort of fun :p
So in case you didn’t notice this is my first comment (in almost a year!) You see when I really like blogs I just tend to watch them, and never comment. I don’t know why, but I seem to only comment on blogs that are okay. I don’t dare to comment on the ones I really love, because I think I’ll ruin them or something. I know it’s a silly thought.
But since I’m first doing it, I would like you to know that I think you have an adorable blog. The pictures are so beautiful and the text, you can make me understand anything the way you write, I’m sure of it. And you have a beautiful little world (I hope one day I’ll get one of my own.) and every time you blog you make my day a little better ^^,
Hah, I think you can actually see that I’m a little nervous just by looking at this text (all this parenthesis xD). Last week I actually met another one of my big “love blogâ€. And I was so nervous. ‘cause I know so much about them and they don’t know anything about me. And I was just sitting there, not daring to talk to him, afraid that he would think of me like as a crazy fan girl.
Look at this, I’ve almost written you a letter. Well, I think I’ve written everything I wanted to tell you (a little messy, but I hope you get the feeling out of it) Please forgive me if there are some mistakes in my writing.
Hope you all the best!
Yours sincerely
Stine
PS. I’m really easy to affect, so please don’t get scared. I’m sure it was just the case of me reading your latest post before I went to bed.
PSS. Oh, and I love your name! When I was younger I told everyone that my daughter would be called Vanessa 😉
PSSS. I almost didn’t post this. I considered deleting it for about one hour, but then I just posted it! (And I hope I won’t regret 😉
My dreams have been exhausting over the last few days, but how nice dreams are when they come to rest in all the beauty that is around us. Autumn brings with her a new sense of peace and your post has inspired me to go out and take a peek 😉
I got my potion labels, Vanessa, and I plan on playing with them this weekend. I have a variety of glass jars lined up on my dining room table awaiting their transformation!
Another great post Vanessa, with beautiful images. Magical…with a hint of what is yet to come.
Im so happy for Autumn. It is the best time fo the year. I have alot of work to do to get ready for the Halloween party. Woot!!

Happy Autumn to you as well! Thanks for a lovely post, as always. The photos of the raven are just spectacular! I feel for you over your vegetable garden…seems like Peter Rabbit was very busy this year. We were visited by a lone woodchuck who dined upon our zucchini, lettuce, and any other greens he could find. He was even so bold as to waddle up onto our porch to get his share of the tasty lettuce. Bah! At least we had a lovely crop of tomatoes this season, which were just perfect for sauce…
Again, Happy Autumn to you, Vanessa. Theresa
Oh I’ll bet those skinny little bunnies enjoyed the baby veggies sooooo 😉 And how funny that raven decided to wake your from your slumber on the first day of fall….a sign for sure!! What a great time of year! Excited for your wee office to be complete so you can play again V. I got my jars and labels and spookiness ready to goooo, wheeeee….
I collected a shroom that looked like a troll ear from the camping spot at the beach this past weekend, my family thought I was nutty…telling them all about my ‘ear of troll,’ hahahahah. But they should be used to my craziness by now 😉
Jamie 🙂
That raven, im in awe!
I hope you have the merriest of autumnals over there!
xxx
I love how you missed your garden goodies and then thought about the skinny bunnies! great positive thinking! Im so glad you mentioned your halloween party again.. I had forgotten about it!
I better write it down somewhere!

ravens! oooh! we don’t have ravens here … they’re so beautiful!
another lovely post – so many thoughts and so many wonderful photos.
autumn is my favorite of all seasons!
Oh Vanessa, the raven photos!!! LoVe! BUT the photo of Mr. Orange Eyed Bird is PERFECTION! You could be a photographer of anything. The world is YOURS!!! One would think that I would have become accustomed to your many overflowing talents, but your talents are so prolific, the entire YOU can never be known. And that’s just one thing I love so much about you, the mysterious, magical royal gypsy girl-woman. Have I told you lately how much I adore you???
**blows kisses** Deb
i don’t see my name in the list, i probably did a goofy thing but please know that I am in for the fun 😉
Happy Autumn! I say V…that list of Halloween partiers is mighty looong. It’s going to take DAYS to visit everyone (how lovely!!)
I have a silly little {true} story of a crow pecking my head, so I would be running for cover and wouldn’t think his greeting were of the hello variety….
I am sure those little cottontails needed those veggies more than you and Mister Lovee, although that is a sad turn of events. But hello fall is a wonderful thing. The colors, the smells, the sights, the sounds. I love the rustle of golden leaves and the crisp air.
Enjoy the day!

You know September has always been a month of truth and love for me. You are so right that it is the month of letting go. Blessings and flight,

Vanessa:
Oh how I adore pointy black hats and orangey orbs! Here in the dry and overwhelming heat of the Southern California desert, there are a few sneaky, hidden signs of Autumn, but only if you look ever so close. The Orioles are gone, the sun is slightly filtered through the lingering smoke from the surrounding fires and the Pistache trees have just a faint glow of orange and yellow peek-a-booing!
I wonder, what is the Autumn like in the Tucson area? Does it smell fabulous and have a yellowish glow?

Those bunnies will soon be fat after indulging in your veggie treats! Sigh. Easier said than done, this letting go bit. But I’m trying, particularly about one issue that I’m powerless to change. Sept. has been a challenging one, thanks to Mercury being in retrograde. I’m waiting for the “normal” fall – which to me is magical and wondrous – to begin on a high note. xoxox
Holy crow, er, raven, er birdman, batgirl! Is that flying fowl’s eyes really truly orange? Psychedelic!
Um, you get A++++++ for growing food for bunnies. You’re going to heaven on a pink cloud filled with diamond drops, rainbow kisses and avocado flavored gumballs. 😉
Ahhhhhhh Autumn-for some reason, no matter what happens in the fall, I’m jiggy with it, or at the very least, can accept it with some dignity insteada stampin my feetsies like I’m 2.
I think its the smell of pumpkin spice.
WOOHAH!
XOXOXOXOXOXOX Rhonda Roo
Lovely bird photos! Especially the ravens!
Vannessa,
I always love reading your posts. They are amazing. Hugs, Bobbi Jo
Good to know Autumn comes even to the desert!
Ohh I love the warm stillness of Autumn, and the beauty of the oily commanding raven.
keep bringing us your beauty, I love experiencing your work. xxx
Have a most magical autumn season, Vanessa! Your art and life is enthralling as always! xx
YAY for fall!! Love this time of year!
I can’t wait to see the new space lovely one 🙂
LuLu~*xoxo
Ah, yes, September spicy and crisp and golden. I just looked through the list of participants for the halloween party. Can you believe it?! It is going to take days to get to all the parties! Twyla
I linked around and foundn your wonderful blog and all you do I must find the time to play with everyone soon!!! I will keep checking in.
oh, autumn in the desert! glorious!!!
i am catching up on your posts and saw that you had robbed recently… that feeling of violation is a hard one to let go of. i was robbed on a friday afternoon by a couple of school aged kids while i was at work, and i still have problems leaving the house for work occasionally. but, all we can do is move on and try to continue with our lives.
i hope you find your sign and perhaps who stole it from you. but more importantly, i hope you can find your sense of safety and security again.
hugs from the humid south! autmn is definately NOT here yet…
Feliz otoño!!
Y para nosotros lo del hemisferio sur Feliz primavera!!!
Cariños.
Im sorry your garden got trashed, you didnt get a chance to grow anything did you or was it just the plants they ate. Grasshoppers got my peppers, hot and green. They are not so cute as bunnies. lol
The desert sounds so hot and deserty lol,you make it sound pretty.
Your posts are better than a Tim Burton movie!
Just bought a pumpkin this week and am slowly getting into the Halloween mode. We call it witch night in Germany, but the origin is the same and it’s beginning to look very American over here. Love all the deco and treats we can buy now here. Please sign me up for the party, really look forward to it!!
Another joyful post and the pics are incredible! I received my potion labels and love, love them! So anxious to get going with my jars, etc.
Thank you and have a wonderful autumn ~
Pat
That Raven in flight is amazing. It’s definitely feeling like Autumn here. Crisp and verging on cold in the morning–but lots of shimmering light in the afternoon.
Happy Autumn Vanessa! What a FABULOUS post! Full of fall magic and wonder! Leave it to you..and your amazing imagination. 😉 XO,Jenn
I so understand the disappearing vegetables. Only mine was the disappearing morning glories. We decided that the rabbits must have decided I had planted a delicious salad mix just for them. LOL
Eeeeeeeeeeeeek… don’t forget about me! I want to play too 🙂
~Cheryl
Alas!! My garden has also suffered the same fate!!!! So sad! And my tomatoes were pathetic!! LOL! How sweet the air. How atmospheric your photos!! Thanks so much for sharing!
Hugging you
