Today

I found my heart in the garden today…

Heart love 1

In a beautiful leaf, with markings much like those on my hand.

(cosmos)

Heart love 10

Today was also a wacky day.

Nothing went as planned.

My printer went bonkers.

5 times.

I wrote a blog post that took 3 hours, and when I went to publish it, my screen turned blue and told me the entire system was shutting down.  My draft did not save.

I took a deep breath and wrote it again.

I had edited 40 photos for the post.  I had chosen flowers instead of art and things.  The flowers beckoned me, taught me lessons this morning.

So, I went with the flow-ers.

(zinnias)

Heart love 27

I wrote about going with the flow.

Twice.

About-

Beethoven.  Petals.  Feelings.  Reflections. Hearing. Seeing.

About just being.

(zinnia)

Heart love 25

About not sweating the small stuff.

(zinnias)

Heart love 12

2 minutes ago I finished another 2 hour stint of re-writing the post.

When I hit publish, the screen said internal error on the web page.

(zinnias)

Heart love 11

And disappeared again.

I had saved my work along the way, so I thought for sure I had a draft.

But, it was corrupt and would not open.

(zinnias)

Heart love 29

None of these things have ever happened on this computer.

So, I am taking my own advice.

(zinnias)

Heart love 9

I am walking away, taking a deep breath.  Hugging fur!

(zinnia)

Heart love 16

I am going to breathe and finish baking bread.

(Dahlia Holland Festival – dinner plate size)

Heart love 7

C'est la vie.

(zinnia)

Heart love 19

Huge deep breath.

(zinnias)

Heart love 13

Tomorrow will be a wonderful new day…

(zinnias and squash blossoms below)

Heart love 26

With the sun shining big and bright!

(zinnias)

Heart love 28

And I'll be there…

(zinnias)

Heart love 22

Collecting along the way…

(zinnias and roses)

Heart love 4

And hopefully, not sweating the small stuff.

I handled today well, I just sighed and gave in.

Because really, do we have control over anything at all?

If things aren't life altering, then, why freak out?

Although, if this doesn't post, I might fall over the edge.

🙂

Anything wacky happen to you lately?

See you soooooooon!

Love, V

A sparkly heart

ps:  I will add more Halloween partiers to the list tonight or early in the morning.  I am so happy for Halloween Party mooooods!  Yay!

  1. Lisa says:

So glad you persevered – your flower pics are absolutely lovely. Plus, you’ve got me dreaming about planting zinnias. Never really thought about them before, but your red/pink ones really knock my socks off.
Here’s to a less frustrating tomorrow!

  2. Marrissa says:

Oh you poor love! It seemed like every time you wrote the name of a flower it was as though you were taking deep breaths between sentences! I have had a weird morning too! Strange things are in the air today! I hope tomorrow is a breeze for you – you have a gorgeous garden to escape to when things get overwhelming! Keep shining bright 🙂

  3. Jenn says:

I am sorry for all the rotten technology stuff you have been suffering. It seems to me most of the rottenness in my life can be centered around some sort of technology. Like last week I locked my keys in my car, the internet went out when I had an assignment to finish, and then it took me two and a half hours to get home from school, which normally takes a half hour. As for today, on campus I found a kitten. And I tried to catch her but she ran away. 🙁 I hope the poor dear will be alright, I just wanted to help her out. On campus, a kitten, who’d have thunk. Oh dear this seems to have turned into a rant. Your garden is beautiful, you have 10 green fingers, not just a thumb hehehe. Sometimes I wish I lived 150 years ago… things seemed so much simpler. But then I wouldn’t have things like Stevie Nicks, or your blog.
Much love Vanessa, hopefully tomorrow will be beautiful for ALL of us 😀

  4. Kelly says:

What is it they say, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder! What beauty for you to behold in your fanciful garden, Vanessa!
Flowers are the only thing that big or small always give me a thrill and a smile, even if my day may be dreary.
I would love to grow morning glories but I think it would be safer to try zinnias here in Phoenix.
I am sorry about how crazy your day went, but thankful, for the flowers to inspire and delight and that you could finally post.
My day was pretty typical except a young man came to my door with a vase of beautiful mixed bouquet of flowers, but they were for my neighbor. Boo Hoo! I did get to keep them until she got home. 😉

  5. Jessica says:

I am sooo sorry for the technical difficulties 🙁 Not fun! Anyway, bravo for coping! That’s better than I would have done! Although I think the snickerdoodle cookie I just consumed is helping me to get through the rest of my evening peacefully. Mmmm….cinnamon! Delicious! Anyway, loved your flower pics (you’ve got me dreaming about zinnias!) and can’t wait till the Halloween party, of course. It will be amazing!
    Hugs and hexes,
    Jessica

  6. Oh Vanessa, the same thing happened to me last week! Three quarters of my post had not saved and trying to reright it was just about useless:( I layed there thinking ‘In the grand scheme of things it is not a big deal that I couldn’t remember all the pretty words I’d used the first time.’ Your flowers are gorgeous! Have a wonderful ‘sweat-free’ day! Love, Twyla

  7. Thank you for a lesson in patience. And I know, you know exactly how to post your photos, and do everything right…so how could everything go wrong? That is so crazy!
Must be those gremlins AND goblins at work again…
I am happy the third time worked like a charm~
Sigh~ Your flowers are enchanting and comforting to behold. Beauty at its best.
Please! Please! Please! hope for me that I will be able to fly to Massachusetts in about ten days to see my sister and my niece and nephews…I am awaiting for my hubby’s reply to see if it fits into his schedule. (He will have to hold down the fort while I am gone…men are babies!) New England in the fall! What Bliss! And a flea market in New Hampshire just over the border, and Mike’s Pastries in North Boston (the Little Italy sector) and possibly a doll museum near Glocester, Ma. I hope, I hope, I hope…
I am clicking my red ruby slippers together and making a big wish! ‘There’s no place like New England’… ‘There’s no place like New England’…
I will let you know what the out come is~~~
    =^..^=

  8. Cameron says:

    The flowers are patient…
Moments that make us step back from our “plans” and surrender to life a bit more…eh?
    Frustrating, for sure!
Our moment today was rushing thru the front door, home from school…and my daughter notices what I think is a wilted flower on our doorstep. I almost told her to just just come in and close the door…
It was a butterfly on it’s back, still clinging to the empty chrysallis it emerged from…wings wet and useless. We dropped everything and watched in awe as we extended a helpful finger to this little struggling creature and placed it on a shady plant. It’s wings seemed to pump full of life in a matter of minutes…and flew off to live out its new adventure.
    It was amazing!
A lesson to me to become more aware and appreciative of the here and now….and to trust in the capabilities of my own little butterfly girl.

  9. Nathalie Gagnon says:

Thank you for not giving up!!! Your post was a meditation of daily living! In yoga we say “hari om” (meaning “oh well”). I really appreciate your efforts and deeply enjoy your posts! I also agree with the previous post that children are better at seeing things and being in the moment. All the best,
    Nathalie

  10. Linda Diane says:

I am so sorry for your blog posting frustration. I can relate from the perspective of a commenter. I have been reading the blog of a woman who had a life altering health event and needed encouragement. I had never commented, and I thought, “This is the day!” I wrote a long, encouraging, heartfelt response, bringing in how I could relate based on some of the issues in my own family. I loved the way it flowed. Then. THEN I just know I hit “post,” but when I went to read my comment with the others, it was nowhere to be found. This was just a few weeks ago. I was sad.
You, Miss V., still made an encouraging, beautiful post despite your setbacks!

  11. lisa skiles says:

I think the computer taught you perseverance and the ability to let go emotionally. For me, NOT AND EASY THING TO DO. And I think blogger may possibly be the devil. Just an observation. Good for you for getting through it! Your flower pictures are exquisite! Cannot wait for the halloween party – I did the practical magic party and had so much fun it was ridiculous!
    Lisa

  12. marjorie says:

oh poo, I’m sorry about the postlings getting lost dear! But if it makes you feel any better, these flowers greeted my morning with a swoon!! SO LOVELY! Thank You for sharing them! You have the most remarkable green thumb!!

  13. Vicki O'Dell says:

    Oh Dear Ms V,
Such a great attitude about your troubles today. What madness! But I did giggle out loud when I read “Although, if this doesn’t post, I might fall over the edge.”
I sure hope today is lots better for you! 🙂
    The other Ms V 😉
PS. Thanks to you I WILL try planting zinnias next year. Hopefully, the mama rabbit won’t eat them all again.

  14. Computer grief, what total yuckiness!!! I’m sorry you had such a frustrating day but as they say… Tomorrow is another day… That will hopefully be filled with even more beautiful flowers, autumn fairy light, and hugs from fur babies and Lovie… the bestest medicine around.
    Have a better day,
    Queenie

  15. Crave Cute says:

Love that you found your little heart, especially after all of the bloggy mess. Your flowers are so cheerful and happy, just what I needed on a dreary fall day!

  16. aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I know exactly how it feels. Nothing is so frustrating than when that happens. As for anything wacky happening to me. My Glue Gun blew up on me. One huge bang and a huge red sparks later, plus a very fast beating heart. I took out the plug and it had tripped the electrics. Sigh I wonder if its to do with the new moon?
    hugs
    Sara

  17. Miss Linda says:

Miss Vanessa, So sorry to hear of your computer problems. I think that we”ve all been there. I hope that your computer is back on track. Your flowere are simply beautiful. I applaud you for them…You grew each and every one of them. Beautiful. I hope today is a better day.

  18. Alia says:

I am sorry lady! That is so frustrating when you spend so much time on something and then it is just gone. I am sure tomorrow will be much better!
    <3 alia
ps. You always talk about baking bread and a few days ago I baked my first loaf by hand (not using a bread machine) ever! It was really great and I want to do more. I was wondering if you have any yummy bread recipe suggestions?

  19. Oh, I never even thought about using a bread machine, that scares me more
than making it by hand;) YAY for you, bread by hand!!!! I made
fresh rolls last night that are huge and amazing, and you can eat with butter
and jam all day long. I will get the recipe together I promise ;)))

  20. Lurve that blue screen, I get it pretty much 50% of the time I try to look at you tube!
All my frustration today is with the Bovine world, a stooopid mother cow who couldnt go thru the gate with the rest of the herd in case3 she got her feet wet in the mud! and I am serious, she was going up and down the drain trying to find the best place to cross, and that is where I have left her, so its not just computers!
More importantly Zinnias are amazing! and so is baking bread so I dont think your day looks too bad from my seat. You flower photography is dreamy hhmmmmmm la la la
good luck with your next post ; )

  21. GG Pinkster says:

ahh V. I had a similar thing happen- I wrote a long heartfelt Pinkster poem to you about your fur babies and mine and went to press Post and it was gone…..woooosshhhhh……Into the land of dreams.
    Love yur flower therapy idea.
Your ruffians were too cute with their bows and dancing! xo

  22. Dear Friend,
Thank you for helping me to Take a Breath. This has been happening to me all month long. It has been a VEry LOng Month. You are completely right though. If it is not life altering, it isn’t worth all the Stress. But it is ohhhhhh so annnnoying…..
    Ok. One very LOUD “ARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH”
Then Deep Breath and tomorrow is a new day.
….The flowers were lovely as always and Please
…..Put me on your Halloween Party List. Would love to come.
    Wishes and Whimsy

  23. Alia says:

Yay recipes, thank you! Bread machines are handy, but I don’t think the bread is as good. I liked my one by-hand-loaf much more than any that I made in the bread machine I no longer have. Also I now totally feel your pain as tonight I had to redo something on the computer one and half times because it just deleted and I could not get it back. And it was a job application so I couldn’t just give up! Boo.

  24. I had an assignment to finish, and then it took me two and a half hours to get home from school, which normally takes a half hour. As for today, on campus I found a kitten. And I tried to catch her but she ran away. 🙁 I hope the poor dear will be alright, I just wanted to help her out. On campus, a kitten, who’d have thunk.

  25. Robin says:

My day was moderately whacky. Ever work for someone less than half your age!? It’s actually quite hilarious, but I can’t let on I think it’s funny. I respect this young professional woman, making her way up the ladder. I was her way back when. Your zinnias and your day helped me distill mine. Gorgeous flowers!

  26. Angela says:

What a wonderful post, and I can so relate! Yesterday was such a wierd day for me. From the time I got up until the time I got to bad, odd little mishaps threatened to make my mood less than pleasant, lol. The day ended when I plopped down to hard into my favorite old chair in exasperation and heard one of the springs in the chair make an unpleasant “boinnggg”. So I decided to forget the broken chair, go to bed, and start again today, lol. So far so good!! I hope your computer behaves for you today 🙂

  27. Angela says:

Hmmm, I’m not going to consider all my typos in that post I just made as a bad start to the day, lol!!

  28. Gee, Vanessa, I can sure empathize with you here. It often takes me at least a couple of hours to make a blog post (photo editing included), and my computer does that sort of thing all the time. It’s very frustrating and time-consuming, but I’m learning to have the attitude that it’s not worth getting upset over. Technology is unreliable, but the results of the things we put out there when we do finally get the posts through are delightful and self-satisfying, and likely pleasing to others. It’s important that we keep finding the ways to share and exchange. I’m glad your recent experience hasn’t caused you to leave the blog world yet. I so much enjoy seeing what you do put out there (and appreciate your honest sharing about such challenges : )
    All the best,

    Oh Dear sweet Vanessa,
There are days that just go that way and as you say, it’s best to just go with the flow. Me thinks your flowers and pups were behind the computer mischief…beckoning you to come out and frolic and play.
Today will be a grand day ;-).

  31. Elizabeth says:

You have a beautiful garden filled with so much love.

  32. Theresa says:

Thank you so much for this post, Vanessa! I love how you took a trying day and found the simple beauty in it anyhow. The flowers made me smile so much. I have had wacky days – and bad days – but you have to smile and laugh and think of the good. 🙂 Each new day gives a new beginning, right? xoxo

  33. Marilyn says:

    Your zinnias are amazing!

  34. Awesome! I like too much. The day ended when dropped on a hard chair with my favorite old anger, and felt the springs on a chair.

  35. Delightful is an understatement, I think I join you, they truly are exquisite flowers
