What a scrumptious week, snow garden in the desert included.
It almost always snows once or twice in February, here at the country house. (Hooray!)
It melts the next morning or the same day, but still it's snow, and I would never turn it away.
We are at a bit higher elevation than Tucson, so it's a tad cooler, and chances of snow are a smidge higher.
On Tuesday night I went on an errand, and felt a coldness in the air that made me shiver. It was that sort of coldness that told me, feels like it could snow. Lovee said, probably not. But, I could feel it. Like a cold winter whisper.
So on Valentine's day, when heavy rain turned to snow, all I could do was jump up and down in the window, whilst giggling like a crazed person and exclaiming, I knew it, I knew it!! I knew it would snow!
Of course, I had to run around in it until I was so cold and so wet that I couldn't move my fingers.
But it was beyond delightful, really.
Looking up, watching snow coming out of the sky –
Bliss sigh…
All of a sudden, the white stuff really started to stick.
But the one thing that always gets me, is the silence.
Oh, that beautiful silence of snow fall.
Quiet, magical.
Truly magical…
Everything looks lovely with powdered sugar on it, doesn't it?
Snow makes everything dreamy…
The gnomes thought a little snow and dark skies were okay, but only every once in a while.
They say they like the sun more. But I say, ah phooey, I LOVE the snow!
We always have dry + sun. I say, rain and snow and grey skies are welcome more often, if they'd like. Mister Lovee told me that, some people in areas where it rains a lot don't even have a garden hose. Is that true? I suppose if you get rain several times a week, it must be true?
Here, where you can count yearly rain days on your hands and toes, it seems amazing to not ever need a garden hose. Here it goes like this, no water hose = no garden. Well, except for native plants that is. Cactus and such.
So, a moist week plus snow, is a great gift in the desert.
An awesome gift.
The boys went mad in it.
Miles got so soaked, he turned super golden in his wet coat.
Sort of tripped my heart up a couple of times when I caught sight of him running around. He sort of looked like you know who, from the corner of my eye. Heart gasp.
Oh those boys, played and played and played.
It took 10 towels to get them a little dry.
Then they ate and ate, and slept and slept.
Those loves of mine…
Snow in the vegetable garden was my fave…
Pumpkin heads, dusted with fluff…
And, gourds too!
Pretty pretty snow day it was, me thinks.
The winter veggies didn't mind the snow at all.
Snow broccoli.
We have had such a warm winter, that a little snow really hit the spot.
One of the little Christmas trees, that was in my house and is now planted cozy in the ground, really was something out there. For a moment, I felt the spirit of Christmas again. It was wonderful!
And so, we changed our plans and had a cozy fantastic Valentine's day. Me baking my yearly cookies…
Packaging oodles of them. Sending them out into the world…
I changed them up a little, adding some red food coloring to the butter-cream to make it pink. I loved it, and it made it look like frosting – but it is just pure butter and a little powdered sugar (with raspberry jam in the center). Sinfully delicious…
Making these really makes it feel like a special day to me…
But the most important thing is that, the recipients liked them. That is the reason after-all, that I make these difficult but delicious little heart loves 😉
A quiet snow filled baking day.
What more could I ask for?
It is a beautiful grey sky Friday.
I hope our constant sun is visiting you instead. Also – I wouldn't mind if anyone would like to share some snow with me again 😉
I do love the sunny and happy days here, but a little grey from time to time sure hits the spot.
Happiest little weekend!!!
Love, Vanessa

*sigh*…that’s all, just *sigh*.

Magical!
We had a few days of snow up here last month, once a year is enough for me.
Vanessa your cookies just jump right out of the screen into my mouth! No, wait…it was just my imagination. Oh drat! Love this post. Love your boys running and playing and running and playing. *smiles* Norma
Truly magical indeed…
I just love all of your photos and your cookies make my mouth water.
I really love the photo with the anderandic chair in it. Our neighbor left one out this winter and each time I want to capture a shot of it with snow on it…the snow melts! I’m sure we will have more snow again but I’m hoping we don’t get much.
Hope you have a happy week end.
Funny that you’re having winter weather and we are having what can only feel like Spring. I tell you Mother Nature is one fickle gal! I think it would be fun if we got a dusting of snow a couple times but having lived for 3 years where it normally snows all winter…..well a dusting is all I’d want. Enjoy!
Wow, I’m so glad you got a bit of snow, and I mean that in the nice way since even though I really, truly don’t like snow I’m happy that others do! 😀
Today is my business birthday! afiori turns 3 and I thought about you because I had cake all day on pretty plates and balloons and coffee and and and macarons and and and sugar high and and and
Lisa, I agree, a dusting of it is plenty – just enough to play in and feel
like real snow. Not Wisconsin real, but real you know what I mean?
😉 It has been in the 70s for 2 months – flowers blooming
etc. So it is wonderful to have a snap of winter – just to seal the season
deal! YAY!
I think any kind of weather in your garden would be magical, and snow doesn’t disappoint! We havn’t had much snow here in Utah this year, didn’t think I’d miss it but I do!
I love your red toadstools with white spots, and your enchanting key hanging with my favorite colored string from your fence post. So beautiful!
Beautiful boys and beautiful cookies!
Oh My! this Southern Ca. girl get a little envious I must confess of the snow. All your post look like party post,so beautiful and fun.Hugs Denise
I’m trying to learn how to get my blog on your comments.Let me try one more time.
Your snowy photos are so pretty! We had just a little bit of snow Sunday night here in N. Texas when it was too dark to appreciate it. *sigh* It did not last.
Your cookies just exude love and appreciation and friendship, and I know all the recipients felt extra special!
It does look so pretty, Vanessa! After record snowfalls these past two years in New York, I am glad it is just snow showers {even now that we are in Ohio}. Just enough to cover the roofs and the grass and I’m good with that. I’m glad you got snow, even if it was just for a day!
Pretty Pretty, plus angel cookies!
The snow looks beautifully dreamy where you at. We had one snowstorm so far. It’s been a really warm winter.
Pretty. We’ve had a very mild winter, no snow.
But your pictures reminded me of what it looks like.:)
What a magical day! You are making me feel blissful by just looking at your gorgeous photos and we NEVER get snow where I am! You have to travel to the mountains to for it. So when it’s delivers right to your doorstep, right to your backyard? Oh, you lucky girl indeed!
Something about snow truly is magical, especially if you don’t get it very often. (In my case, never.) But I had fun enjoying the snow through those pictures. Make a snowman for me, kay?? 🙂
I hope your weekend is extra super duper lovely!
xoxo Jess
P.S. Your cookies look scrumdidilyumptious!!! Can never go wrong with too much butter, me thinks. (And Paula Deen too, haha!)
fanciful, arizona, pop. 4: hahaha, that is adorable!
i am personally very glad there has been no snow in my yard this winter. that is a first and i am dancing on brown grass. waiting for the daffodils.
i am however happy for you. your photos honor snow just perfectly.
i hope you are well xoxo

What a beautiful little garden you have! It is just so charming. I don’t know why, but your blog reminds me a lot of my childhood… Pen pals, baking with my mom and snowy days in February…
You are such a grand photographer!!! I think it is the love behind the camera for all this life brings!!!! That shot of the boys!!!! Sooo sweet it ached. I am so glad you get a little of everything in your neck of the woods. Blessings dear one from Amy
Yay for snow days, aren’t they just wonderful. We finally had snow the other week, it was so exciting.
Oh and I have to admit we don’t own a hose. Living in the middle of the UK it tends to rain an awful lot here, even in the middle of summer. We do have a watering can though for when it does get dry for a few days in a row.
xx
Ahh, Vanessa you truly live in a Fanciful and Bizarre part of Arizona! No snow a glistening in my part of Phoenix, Boo Hoo!
I just love the picture of Matty and Miles playing in the snow. I wonder what my two dogs would look like, they have never seen snow before.
Now, I really would like to bite into one of those scrumptious looking cookies you made! <3
Enjoy your weekend! ; )
Beautiful photos! We live in Maine and haven’t had much snow at all this winter, unlike last winter when we had oodles of it. Can’t say I mind the milder winter, but I do know what you mean about that glorious silence that comes with snowfall. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Blessings,
Starcat
Absolutely divine!
Yes, there is something so magical about the quietness when it is snowing…like you are inside Narnia!
Oh! And Miles does look kinda like ‘you know who’ from the wet snow…kind of made my heart stop too~
Thank you for sharing such glorious snow photos!
Oh! And your cookies look soooo scrumptious!!!
XO
Miss Teresa
I love the serenity of your flicks. They are truly beautiful. You make me want to try baking and I am not a baker or even a cook. My grandkids would love your cookies. Thank you for sharing the magic:-)
Oh I am so glad you got snow Vanessa! I think you got some of ours 😉 We had plenty to spare, believe me. And the pups got to go and play outside, how happy they must be! It probably doesn’t last long so you best be enjoying it! I find it so odd how you’ll probably have 80 degree weather again in a week… crazy weather I tell you! Your photographs are beautiful, as always, but there is just something so magical about snow in the desert 🙂
Ah…the magic of a snowfall. And on Valentine’s Day, too! 🙂 There is something so exquisitely enchanting about freshly fallen snow – I love the stillness and purity of it. So glad the boys had a chance to play in it…my furries love it, too! Those cookies look soooo very good, Vanessa. 🙂 I am sure the recipients just adored them. Glad you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! xoxo
We walk on snowbanks still. I loved your photos nonetheless.
Beautiful photos and your cookies make my mouth water.. .
Oh me, Vanessa, your cookies look delightful! And what beautiful pictures of the snow and your boys frolicking in it. So glad you got some snow. I think we’ve got your sunshine this week. They were calling for a bit of snow yesterday, but nothing happened…just not cold enough. The weather has been so odd around here lately. It was only two years ago that we got almost 3 feet of snow and this year, hardly anything. And we were wearing t-shirts at the Zoo in D.C. in December!!
Anyway, miss ya mucho and big hugs,
Jamie 🙂
Hi V.V.,
I just wanted to thank you for the Valentine’s Day cookie you gave me. It was sooo yummy! You’re the best!
-Mandie 🙂
Oooooh!!! SNOW!! Dont you wish we could roll about in it like dogs!? (tee hee)………
I’m so happy you got a magical snow day!!! We had one yesterday, and it was lovely and cozy to watch from inside the warm house with hot stew and biscuits!! 🙂
Sending you many merry thoughts dearie!!!!!!
🖤
You have done it again Miss Vanessa
No one has ever convinced me that snow is nice, but here I am feeling ……. sigh…. dreamy in your snowy space.
One day I will see it for myself
xxx
sheree
how lovely!!! thank you so much for sharing 😀
Funny isn’t it, how magical snow is? I live where the snow is aplenty. In Minnesota… I never tire of the white blanket that wraps us up all tight and cozy in the winter… keeping us safe in our houses snuggled by the warm fireplace sipping hot buttered rum.
It is funny because I am looking out my window right now and the trees seem as though they have been dipped into fluffy white frosting….. Maybe this recent layer was sent my way by some place fanciful…. hehehe. 😉
