Searching for magic and a singin' that song. She skips and-a frolicks in a non-existent lawn, finding sheer enchantment in a cactus throng…
Tweet tweet, tweet tweeeeet…
Now what are those two conjuring up??? That's what I want to know? Are they planning a take-over? Oh wait, they already have taken over, silly me… Silly ridiculous human. I am only here to serve the bird masters 😉
Speaking of tweets, I plunged. I am officially on Twitter. For some reason I don't come up in a twitter search according to a twitter glitch. But you can find me at http://twitter.com/afancifultwist – We'll see how that goes 😉
Not like I need any more help avoiding my duties. What were they again?
Serving tiny tea???
Playing? Breaking cascarones inside the house?
This is the epitome of avoiding adult duties, which I would rather forget about in total ;) I would rather be doing this…
Can I just tell you, these coral roses are so bright, they almost hurt your eyes. These are non-altered shades of coral. A coral rose bush, as big as a tree, is keeping me perfect delicious company…
I feel rose greedy. Like the Queen of Hearts. Only I don't have anyone, like elves, painting these for me by night. 😉
Sooo many roses. The other huge rose bush with the pink frosting flowers, gives off these dense beyond commercial quality roses that blow my mind. Both smell so rose strong, it is unreal. Positively unreal. (But you already knew that, because I am getting annoying with this subject 😉
But, how can you not swoon over free buckets of roses? I just don't know…
Oh and, did I mention they dry really stunning too?
Anyhow… I am almost ready to package up my deadline and ship it off today, after which I will begin finishing up bunches of little guys for a shop update. Yippeee!
On a random note… You know, in that movie Genghis Blues, there was a lovely lovely boy named, Lemon De George. And I screamed, "hey, he is one of my elves!!" Isn't his name elfin perfect??? He was a charmer…
So let's see, what other randomness have I gotten myself into? Welllll, day before yesterday, I started seeing things, very regularly, out of the corner of my eye. Now, this happens often, but not as often as it has in the last 48 hours.
It was really freaking me out. So, when my friend called while I was painting day before yesterday, and invited me over for dinner, I was inclined to say not today. But between seeing things, and being loopy from isolation, I obliged. I ended up staying for hours, chatting with her parents and siblings about everything under the sun. Her mom tried on my shoes, and we all giggled like teenagers…
I think the conversation got funny when I talked about feeling compelled to invite Mickey Rourke to stay with me and Mister Lovee. I want to bake him cakes and give him hugs, and serve him lemonade, and give him more hugs… Don't you think that might make him happy? He could sleep in the gypsy garden? I can see it now… Hey Mickey, come on over, come on… I mean, what more could he need but a little bit of a fanciful twist in his life?
My sister says I love old weird guys. HAha! She is especially disturbed by my Bryan Ferry love. But why I ask? Why? I'd bake him some desserts too if he came over and sang Is your love strong enough… That's just what a girl needs.
But I veer into madness there.
After I returned home from dinner, it was late and I was tired, and I continued to see things. Do you see her too? On the left there? Tell me you do… (late night photo)
Goodness my eyeball looks huge.
Well, that is enough silliness to fill your silly cup for one day, don't you think?
I best be off. I'd love to stay and play all day, alas, some grown-up duties just can't be avoided…
🖤 ,V
ps: You know I looooove Bat for Lashes. Well, their new cd is wonderful goodness (Two Suns), I bought all the songs on Itunes. I am listening to it on repeat!! I can't choose a fave, they are all good, Pearl's Dream, Daniel, oh on and on, all good. I felt the same way about the Fur and Gold album. Just wonderful! I watched Rothko's Rooms last weekend. I just love Mark Rothko. I live with a wall size giclee of his in my city house. LOVE HIM!
Okay, Off I go…
pss: Mister Lovee just told me Bryan Ferry was coming to visit his friend in August, and I was going to meet him! I flipped. Then he said "Just kidding hee hee snort snort." Ya real funny Mistah!

Yes I see her…
What else exactly are you seeing?
I also see weird things… in the middle of the night floating above me… maybe we’re stuck in some kind of vacuum… or at least part of our brains are!
Wouldn’t mind making dessert for Tom Selleck… oh and… my brother’s a pilot – he flew Bryan Ferry once – said he was top notch so certainly someone to make dessert for!
V~
Oh I wish I could hop through the tree tops right about now. Long busy day!! But alas I have found my escape!! Those roses above are beyond beautiful.
And I think you should send ol’ Mickey an invite. I think he would be a fool not to come over teehee 🙂
I can think of a few people I would like to invite over to the Ward Household. I have this weird crush on Ben Gibbard (singer for Death Cab for Cutie) I love the nerd glasses…hahahaaha I saw them in concert a few weekends ago and oh my the cuteness 🙂 Did I really just type that????
Anywho, have a lovely week Miss V!! Oh and I too have just discovered Bat for Lashes. Daniel is my favorite song so far….Toodles!!
lol at trying to avoid adult duties…
That’s what I did today as well – and wrote an article to, um, help others: http://afiori.blogspot.com/2009/04/how-to-avoid-doing-taxes-hur-man.html
I see E.T. in that last pic! 😮
Hey your coral roses look like my coral roses that look like your coral roses!Hee
Um…Mickey Rourke, huh? OK…you handle that one…:)
I told Cowboy i think it would be a hoot to invite Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and the ghost of Johnny Cash over for poker one night (Willie, Waylon and Wailing, tee hee!).
I have a thing for older guys too. Clint Eastwood still makes me hiccup. I think it all started with Walt Disney though. Any man who can create on that scale never grows old!
Oh, and I did have a brief love affair with the Dad on Leave it to Beaver…HAH.
xoxox roooo
PS Jeez oh petes you made out like a (bobbypin!) bandito on the Easter loot! Maybe i should do my Easter Bunny’s hair too! LOL
I used to have a garden that had huge roses and frangipani hibiscus and every morning there would be piles of petals and full flowers on my table just waiting for me to appreciate. i do miss that garden!
Your roses are incredible! And of course I see what you see! heehee! I’m happy to hear of some new tunes I can put on my IPOD! Sounds wonderful! Happy day, sweet friend!
“finding sheer enchantment in a cactus throng…”
I read “in a cactus THONG” LOL made me yelp a little in a sympathetic pain…
your roses are gorgeous. and the birds are great. sometimes I think your like a snow white/cinderella/disney character with all the birds/mice etc singing awake in the morning. your place seems magical..
Well I’d be excited too, at the prospect of Bryan Ferry coming over! 🙂 Gorgeous roses and photos of the birdies, not to mention all the sugar-rush fun. Can’t wait to see your latest creations. xoxox
I totally see her too V, craziness! She is your little fairy angel watching over you while you work, tee hee…that’s a good thing! So glad you are on Twitter, so we can chat quicker than e-mail now…yay! Love all the roses, wishing I had those all over the place…ahhh, one day 😉
Now, I must get back to my ‘no bean chili,’ it’s a brewin…finger lickin’ good!
Jamie 🙂
Well played, my rockin’ robin magical muse…Your rose bushes must be quite old to grow so tall, which goes along completely with your love of old things. I, myself, find Clint Eastwood can raise my estrogen level quite nicely. Although, the French pain doc I am taking my Daddy to, who SAYS he is 35 (looks 25 to me) is very enjoyable to look at! Beautiful photos, as always. **blows kisses** Deborah
I think I see her….
I want to stay a night in your gypsy garden…someday I want one too.
Roses and more Roses. Looking at your pictures, I want to buy some roses to put all around my house. You are a lucky lady to be able to have your rose bushes right there. I think taking Mickey Rourke in would a good thing. I’m sure he love being with you.
It’s been cold and grey and rainy here for the past week, so it’s wonderful to see your colourful photos filled with warm sunlight and where nothing is soggy!
Are you SURE you don’t have elves in the garden? I can’t imagine roses that big and scented and gorgeous without them! Mickey Rourke?? Hmmmm….I’ll have to think on that one.
Denise
Vanessa,
Your roses are gorgeous. We are only just beginning to bloom here in New England. I can’t wait to see the pink blossoms. Our roses do not bloom until June. Oh, Twitter, I just marked that I am following you. It’s a wonderful bulletin board. Like to announce when your new Little Elfin arrive. Getting away is always a good idea. I am on my way next week to visit my best friend in Princeton, N.J. She is having an enormous shrimp feast, and I can’t wait to go. I tried my hand at beeswax collage and posted about it today. Have you worked with beeswax on your canvases? It is just so much fun.
Well have a happy happy week. Oh, your shoes are divine!
Karen
Well, Mickey Rourke wouldn’t be my first choice to invite, but to each their own – LOL! I do love your beautiful roses, and if you could only bottle the smell and sell it on Etsy – we would all buy some! Happy Earth Day – your little piece of earth is beautiful!
how bout this… a few years ago a friend gave us an old stereo system you know the ones with the turn table (whats that i hear you ask) anyhoo guess what album was on the turn table??? avalon by roxy music. i can hear bryan crooning to me right now… avalon. nothing wrong with liking creepy old guys, for some reason people think i am strange for LIKING (in the romantic way) tome jones, rod stewart, prince, and the really dead looking guy from the rolling stones!!
gotta have something to dream about 🙂
%*_*% rosey
What a lovely little basket of treats to eats.
Oh I love the old ones too and for some strange reason I like them bald and a thick Scottish Brogue works well with me…it also goes nice with a cup of tea!! Yummy and divine all at the same time!!
xoxox
So now I see I’m not the only one who didn’t see the “R.” Hoo hoo hoo!!!!
Me oh my! I have to say that I’m both giggling and horrified at the same time. As I read your first line my eyes deceived me, I must be blind. So please understand my horror when I tell you that I read you were “finding sheer enchantment in a cactus throng” only that naughty “R” had dropped out of sight WHAT! SHE’S WHAT!! I had to read it again and again. Thankfully that little “R” decided to reappeared. I was about to think you’d been out there in the desert too long :0!!!
OH sweet Fanciful One! I didn’t leave this comment on your blog for fear that someone might read it and think, “what kind of a nut case is this!!” But I thought it was so funny how the mind plays tricks on us and “oh yes!” I see her too! Have you seen her before?
Have a fun lovely evening!!!!!
xoxoxo
Miss Vanessa,
What a feast! Love this love birds!
~ Gabriela ~
Hi Vanessa:
I’m way down here, comment number twenty-something. But I just have to scream!! BRYAN FERRY! I adore him. I’ve swooned over him in a sickening way since I was a teenager. I saw Roxy Music in concert the year he wore his red leather suit….
Swooon….
Kim
Garden Painter Art
I see it… its a BIRD!!! it’s a PLANE!!! ITS….!!!!
Mickey Rourke… I am guessing it has something to do with the underdog… you take them home like little stray puppies… feed them … make them feel better.. and all is well… sounds like a plan to me!!
The roses… oh my the roses… I too have a coral rose bush… its so heavenly …. sooo heavenly….
Love the little birdies too…
So much for adult duties… who said we had to be adults anyway??
LOTS OF HUGS
JO
You just make me giggle!!
Your roses are beautiful. And all the birdies that visit your garden……lucky girl 🙂
Denise
HAhahahah! I read the same thing as Sharon did. “in a cactus THONG!” I’m thinking, “what in heaven’s name is she doing in a cactus thong and what must that feel….oh never mind” hahahahaha! As for seeing things out of the corners of your eyes. I see cats darting about. This is usually a dire premonition though. No good comes in my life when this happens. These bad kitties always foretell negativity of some sort. Haven’t seen ’em in a while though. I’m sure what you are seeing are just frisky pixies or fairies…dare I say it? Frisky pixies in CACTUS THONGS!!! HAHAHAHA!
Kathy in Chicago (they’re coming to take me away ha-ha hee-hee ho-ho…)
the subject of roses could never annoy me. i’m terribly envious though and nagging the rest of my family with my new obsession (which is of course all your fault 😉 ). the name is of course absolutely elfin perfect and from time to time i see things in the corner of my eye too. it can be very disturbing ;).
Oh…I totally understand the Mickey Rourke obsession. When you’re done with him, send him to me and I’ll serve him margaritas on my back patio that just happens to have that same shade of coral roses in bloom. Do you think my hubby would mind?!?
I can see her too, I think 🙂
I have always seen things in the corner of my eyes, and sometimes if I turn around quickly I can see a tall bright shining “something” standing behind me for half a second or less. It always make me feel very calm and happy.
I also get this funny feeling like there are something tiny walking on my head (not bugs… lol) or tapping on my shoulder.
Maybe a fairy or two? Who knows 🙂
Oh, and those roses are to die for….. amazingly beautiful.
I would love to play and avoid adult duties! What fun that would be. Maybe what you’re seeing is that little fairy which whispers let’s play.
hey Vanessa,
I am a huge Brian Ferry fan.. Roxy music the whole nine yards.. loving your rose love.. we will have to wait a bit here to have ours come out, but a least the snow is finally gone and we will hit 80 degrees SAt!!
hahaha your oh so funny! I love the little birdies.. And I want the Disney Wonderland Tea!! I love it!!!! What a sight..
Oh dear…at first I ALSO thought you wrote…
Finding sheer enchantment in a cactus THONG!
Glad I’m not the only weirdo out there.
Now, Vanessa—that weird old Mickey Rourke might just go through your garbage and shave your dog. He has that ancient irrascible rapscallion-ness to him, yes, but he also has that hasn’t bathed since 1989-ness to him, also. That, and a certain, undefinable scariness.
On that note, I think I might want to bring Willem DaFoe home and make him a daisy crown for his big, weird head. Maybe feed him some blackberry pie. He’s so…..Sexy Ugly, you know?
New BAT FOR LASHES???? How did I not know this? I’m on it NOW like white on rice. Like a duck on a junebug. Like a cowgirl on a bedazzler.
Dear Miss Fancifulest of Twists,
I, too, know all too well about “being loopy from isolation”!! tee hee!! Sitting and painting along for long periods of time listening only to the birds tweet outside…..I am such a hermit!! 😉
Your pretty, pale picture is so lovely!! Your so beautiful! 🙂
And……tweet, tweet, twitter, I’ve heard it mentioned ever so many times, but I stand firm, and shall not jump!! tee hee!! I really don’t think I have enough to write about!! meeep!
But Here I go all excited to see what you’ve written (and I know it shall be lovely!!!! 🙂 hooray! 🙂
Vanessa,
I too would love to jump from tree to tree and avoid all the adult duties for the day, heck make that a week. he he
Your roses are so gorgeous! Imagining the lovely smell. Thank you so much for sharing. Your eyes are beautiful!
Hugs, Bobbi Jo
I see her! I do, i do. Who is that delightful fairy?
You’re roses are gorgeous, as all the wildlife you get to share your space with. So lovely!
I love the birds. I really miss them in winter when most of them fly away. Now I have so many at my bird feeder I have to fill it twice a day. I love waking up to their singing in the morning. Your roses are just beautiful!!
Cheers,
Tracy M.
PS. I like Bryon Ferry too!
How interesting. I too, have been seeing interesting things out of the corner of my eyes lately. I’ve also been very tuned in to people’s conversations and have been hearing things as well…
It’s always so interesting to live in my world. Or scary, but I prefer interesting…
I just love, love, love your roses. They are gorgeous. Mine around our mailbox has just started blooming…yellow, red, and pink.
You know, at times more so than not, I see things out of the corner of my eyes too. Like shadows or maybe people??? It is kinda scary.
This week I have been entertained by my granddaughter, Isabella who NOW wants to be called Pippi Isabella Longstockings Franklin… I’ve been reading Pippi Longstockings to her.
I know how it feels to have grown-up duties that call you for attention and with that I must go to also do “grown-up duties”.
Kris
just rented The Wrestler and haven’t watched it yet-I heard he was great in it!
I totally love Bat for Lashes, too! She’s so fab!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your pics-so amazing! Everytime I log in I’m amazed! I’m sure you get that all the time.
I think Mickey would love the gypsy garden. who wouldn’t?
I so identify with this post..what are those strange things that you barely get glimpses of…I know it must have something to do with working from home doing what you love..every day is magical…I don’t like the ‘real’ world to intrude!
The roses are just gorgeous! DD and I see the beautiful little lady in the corner. I wonder if she is wanting you to come play? Adult duties are such a drag, aren’t they. But at least you’re surrounded by beautiful things. Love the crown on the little bird. Must be the queen. Hope Mr. Lovee is doing better
Unreal pictures! The birds and the roses, so lovely! And I think if anyone could heal Mickey Rourke it would be you and your gypsy garden!
What amazing roses, all of your photos are so vibrant and full of energy. Just wonderful.
Jodie
x
Gorgeous roses. You are so lucky to have the fragrance also.
Twitter!!! I have all I can do to keep up with my favorite blogs…now I notice that some of my favorite people are Twittering.
White I was in Iceland and Denmark my friends and family were all a twitter (pun intended) about Face Book.
They all asked me “Are you on Face Book?” No!!! I have a Blog!!! was my answer.
I am sure that when I get lonely on my blog I will join the crowd and go on Face Book and start Twittering. *sigh*
Oh Vanessa! Your photos are just delicious!!!
Okay, I’m feeling sad.
Yes.
I asked you about Twitter and you didn’t tweet then, and then when you did, I didn’t know because I’m too busy, and I just went to Follow you, and you don’t allow direct messages, so I couldn’t DM you and tell you that I’m now following you, and you should NOT have 78 followers before ME! I should be your first follower!
I feel better, now. Holy Cow, I haven’t been on Twitter for days. I’m so busy, I can’t stand it. It’s almost making life unpleasant. I must relax, for heaven’s sake. Oooh, sake… I must have Japanese food soon.
What am I going on and on about? Am I a complete loon? Oh, speaking of loons, your birdie pictures are stunners. I’m going birding this weekend, just to prove that I can. Spring is a MARVELOUS time for birding. I love birdies. Oh, and rodents. Birdies and rodents.
hay…
that’s a good blog name! Maybe I’ll start one!
oh, btw, I listened to roxy music this morning.
shutup! idid!!
Cuantas bellas rosas,se puede ver la primavera asomando con ganas .
Por aqui estamos esperando al otoño que no quiere venir.
Los pajaros con su alegria y canto alegran mi casa.
Lindo fin de semana.
Besos
Your photos are beautiful, your roses are radiant! Thank you for filling my silly cup! Have a wonderful weekend! Twyla
I know what you mean about the colors of roses being so bright they almost hurt your eyes. The color takes my breath away when I look at them on my dog walks! I always stop to see how yummy they smell! 🙂
We all need silliness but you give out much more than silliness. You fill my heart with wonder and make me take a second look.
xoxoo
Love Renee
Nice to see you on twitter 🙂
Oh, such ovely roses. Spring has finally come to my blue Garden, and I enjoy my days outdoors.
Oh, I just LOVE your roses! So beautiful! Love the birdies, too! I love those lil’ guys! 🙂
Oh, I saw your twitter address! Come tweet with me, too!
http://twitter.com/TattingChic
Beautiful roses Vanessa, but with my past I don’t think I’ll jump into the realm of birds and magical folk too quickly. Last time I ventured into their world my dogs ate them. 🙂
Take care,
Martha
So it’s late and I begin reading your post.
Here is what I read…
…finding sheer enchantment in a cactus thong…
After about three lines later I had to go back to see if I read it correctly! Hah. Now that would be something, “a cactus thong’!
Lovely Miss V~
The roses are AMAZING! The only thing I have in my yard right now are daffodils that my 5 fur babies are trampling on!
Off to give a listen to Bat for Lashes!
Sending magic and love,
LuLu~*xoxo
Brian Ferry is a perfectly acceptable crush, and yes, I think dear Mr. Rourke would benefit from some tender loving care, and cake. But be forewarned, my strawberry pie helped me catch my Songwriter. Baked goods are potent creations!
And let me see….I wouldn’t mind cooking for…J K Rowling… or Graham Norton. Maybe both. What a fun evening.
You’re so sweet! Who wouldn’t be happy with lemonade and cupcakes. My best friend used to be Mickey Rourke’s assistant a lifetime ago. Maybe I could hook you up! 😉
Have a lovely day!
