Parties & Postcards (new ones) & Crowns, Oh My!

Helloo, Howdy, Hola, Bonjour, Yasou! Wow, I don’t know where that came from…  So it has been a wild and wildless couple of days.  But before I get into that, I need to tell you about a very exciting Swashbuckler Soiree.  Hosted by the ever lovely, hilarious, cheeky, wonderful Donna O’Brien! Hey, we get to wear those ever hip mustaches, don’t we??  And bring swords?  Of course, we will need them to cut the massive cakes and such…  It is coming up soon, and I wanted to give you time to prepare for it!!

A_swashbuckler_soiree

I plan on being there, untamed hair and all…  In my crown, proclaiming ownership of the world’s tallest cupcake…  And, in Donna style of coming clean, I dare say, I mostly roam around the country, in 3 layers of prairie gowns, and wild unruly hair…

Pirate_ball_1

Without my beloved 17 layers of mascara per eye.  Everything I own has a bit of paint on it here and there…  And I guess, sometimes, I might even look like a haggette 🙂 But really, noone cares right?  You still like me, don’t you? 😉

So with that, I have something else to say…  You see, I feel like such a silly girl, when I whine about my sniffles and my leg, and my cold and and and…  Annnnnd, I sure hope I don’t sound like this annoying girl with an uber long list of sniffles and hurts.  As, I am a pretty healthy girl, but lately, I feel like I sound like poor me (which I detest)…  I just don’t want to freak you out with my this and that…  I surely don’t feel like a poor me at all.

So, I soooo thank you for the leg love.  But, because some have asked for news on that realm, the facts are that, I did see someone about it, and I did do some semi-serious damage to my Achilles’ Tendon.  And, all I can do for now, is keep my leg up, iced, and do a few excersises with my leg.  It is not half as bad as it was the first 2 days.  And, I am doing marvelous hobbling around (but don’t tell the sargeant caretaker, Mr.  Lovee, as he wants me to stay put!!).  But, in all seriousness, I am just fine 🙂 (and I have learned not to run down stairs, with three large bags filled with stuff and hands full, while wearing wedges – what a numbskull)

But, just to play it safe, it looks like there won’t be much of this around here for a couple of weeks…

Tennis

But, my right leg, wouldn’t miss a Swashbuckler Soiree for anything (thank goodness it is happening in bloglandia)!!!  So, we are already trying on outrageous over adorned shoes for the event…

Pirate_ball_2

Lucky for me, my work doesn’t require me to put on tap shoes and open the greatest show on earth every night for throngs of adoring fans (but wouldn’t that be fun?).  So, my artwork won’t be hindered at all… And, guess what???  I have a new postcard, which has already made it’s way to the shop

The Mime’s Daughters Rehearse…

W_the_mimes_daughters_rehearse_post

And I adooooore the backside.  I was just waiting to hear that this lovely pink was too much!!  But it wasn’t, & it worked… Just make sure to use a fine tip Sharpie & you will be sending out the brightest postcard in the entire post office 😉

W_the_mimes_daughters_rehearse_po_2

Alsooooo, I finally put a large postcard pack in the shop.  It incorporates 1 of each of my mixed media pieces that are available in postcard form…

       10_postcard_pack

So, that is fun news…

Oh! And I forgot to tell you that the canvas prints of "The Queen of the Carnivale," and "She dreamed of a faraway place," are also now in the A Fanciful Twist Shop

W_the_queen_of_the_carnivale

W_she_dreamed_of_a_faraway_place

So, that is about all I got for ya for now.  OH wait, I am reminded.  Mr. Lovee wanted me to show you our new child (he actually wanted me to tell you about it ages ago, and I forgot).  My friend Ellyn Powers makes marvelous clay creatures!  And we now own one!  Isn’t he adorable???

Drawing_day_5

I will tell you what, if one of you comes up with a name for him, for us, we will send you a new 10 Postcard pack!  One of you must know his name???  Tell us, pllllease!!

Weellllllllllll, I guess I must be off… See you soon!! xoxo, V

ps:  I have also been asked a certain question several times, now, and am compelled to share.  It is about how I met Mr. Lovee…  click link below to keep reading…

So you see, I was a peasant girl, in a beautiful fairytale village.  And, he was named, Captain Hook (he hadn’t met Peter Pan yet).  And he had this white horse and a palace…  Oh wait, that would be a fib…

Okay, so here is the real story, it is kind of blyuck guck silly-illllyyyyy….  But, I was 24 years old, he was, much older.  And we met in a fancy schmanzy office.  He was tres interesante…  He sauntered up to me in his Cuban heeled boots and asked (also he had a guitar with him? I know, it is all so weird)….  (Oh should I tell you this??)  He asked, "Are you in the beauty industry?"  Haaa!  Must have been the eyeshadow, eyeliner, 17 layers of mascara, lipliner, lipstick, gloss, that made him wonder 🙂  Oh, add a hairdo to that….  Oh my!

I said, No.  He said, Oh.  Then somehow, we ended up in a lovely vegetated courtyard, with a beautiful fountain.  And, we sat facing eachother on an Italian concrete bench chatting for about 6 or 7 hours.  We met at that bench, sharing our stories for about 2 weeks.  Then we went on a roadtrip (and extended it by 3 days, it was the best trip ever!!! We visited marvelous places on that trip).  It was magic….

And, the rest is history, as they say.  We have been annoying eachother ever since :))) 8 human years worth….

  1. michelle says:

Oh poor leg! I was afraid it was something like that! Sounded a bit too like when I blew my tendon, although mine was on the side of my ankle. Did it go lovely artist colors for you at least? Glad it is on the mend. And of course we don’t think you are a whiner! That is part of the fun of blogland! I love the postcards! I am going over there after I am done here, I knew if I waited long enough I could get everything I wanted! I don’t know if I am a swashbuckler… hmmm maybe one of my dolls is! And what a lovely story you and Mr. Lovee have, I love knowing little tidbits like that. Oh, and a name. I am hopeless, can barely name my own real live children! Toodles!

  2. Nancy says:

Miss Vanessa, I’m so glad you got your leg checked out and that you will indeed be playing the piano once again if not tennis anytime soon! 😉 It actually did sound like it could have been a very serious thing and I’m happy to hear all will be well! And Hun….seriously? You wanna hear whining? Spend a PMS filled week with me sometime!
LOVE the new postcard set…your little clay guy looks like an “Irving” to me….and I have always said that if I were stranded on a desert island and could only have one item of makeup with me it would be MASCARA!!! And sunscreen….loads and loads of sunscreen but I don’t count that as makeup.
And YAY!! I too always wanted to know how you and Mr. Lovee came to be….thank you SO much for sharing your story, it was charming! I was gonna ask a few times, but you know me….never one to pry. 😉

  3. Marjorie says:

    Deares Miss Fanciful,
I’m so glad your leg is ‘on the mend’ and that there are such pretties popping up in your shopling!! 🙂
Now…as for a name…He is screaming(ever so politely) to me (in a slightly odd accent that I cannot quite place) that he is called:
    Lemuel Kornicus Blandry-boffins the II
(his father was the famed Lemuel of Kornicus Downs who grew the largest turnip in the year eighteen-hundred and twelve…..the Blandry-boffins have always been known for their longevity and a fondness for root vegetables!) 😉
    Cheerio Sweets!!

  4. suziesews says:

Oh my poor dear, just catching up with yu…hope your leg is better soon…

  5. stephanie says:

Or her-story…..which is such a lovely, fanciful one. Do take good care of yourself and that leg…oohhh, achilles and wedges do not play well together!
He looks like a Mortimer to me…Master Mortimer…
    x..x

  6. risa says:

    HIs name is Silvester Ekkehardt.
Although the first name that came to mind was Bubbaloo.

  7. laura says:

I’m a mascara nut too! I love love love love love the shoes!
Hmm…he seems to have a rather hard exterior, but could be sweet underneath…How about Breezy Pinchot or Cletidus Downes.
Love that we have a bit more info on you and Mr. Lovee…it’s a good start! 🙂

  8. OohLaLaura says:

You can NEVER have too much mascara.
I like the beginning of the true love….a guitar slung over a man’s shoulder is always helpful.
I was thinking your new friend might be named Mister Muckie Montmorency the Third.

  9. sarah says:

I”m so glad you went to the doctor, my dear. Even my mom was asking what was wrong with you!

  10. Ky Eliza says:

Oh, that is such a very sweet story. 🙂 I spent rather a lot of time sitting and chatting on a bench with my beloved on our first date, too. Only this bench was near a park, and faced the ocean.
I think he’s an Elvin. Just Elvin, for what a does a wee forest creature such as himself need more than one name for? Extra names make it harder for the birds and squirrels, you know. Squirrels already have enough trouble remembering where they stored their nuts!

  11. tiffany says:

Ouch! I hope your leg is so much better soon. I love the new postcard .. the back is sooo pretty too .. what a lovely color!

  12. Randi says:

Eeeeee! I adore “how we met” stories! Thank you for sharing! I hope your leg feels better really soon and you can once again trip the light fantastic! I think your little guy looks alot like a teeny goblin I captured (made) a long time ago. I keep him imprisoned in a huge glass jar. His name is Bax. Just Bax. I like that name.

  13. O! I’m soOOOOOoo GLAD to hear your leggie is on the mend! Yes, DO NOT RUN down or up steps!!! Postcards are WONDERFUL!!!and yours are a delight!!!That little guy’s name is Sebastian Oliver BrownFrog and just loves to be called Ollie(I think his little buttons look like olives! tee hee)

  14. carolyn says:

Och the leg sound painful and Mr Lovee is quite right you should rest it, you don’t want to end up having to have surgery to repair that tendon now do you?
Does nagging make me a haggette too?
That little pottery fellow looks awfully like Dobby the house elf from Harry Potter to me, useful chap to have around. But you know how it is with fairy folk they just won’t tell you their REAL names so I’m afraid I really couldn’t betray his trust and tell you, now could I?
Not even for a pack of your divine postcards?
No Miss Fanciful I just could not.

  15. Erin Earls says:

Sorry to hear about the leg, I did the same thing, when I hurt my ankle. Wedges and all! I love the ne baby, I have a new baby too, but he is a little different, and can’t find a name for him either. Stop by and see him if you get the chance. I can’t wait to hear how you met Mr. Lovee!!
    Love Erin~

  16. Your postcards look wonderful..so professional looking that they ought to be lining the shelves of high end boutiques:)
Hmm..I’m not good with elaborate names. When I saw the new member of your home he looked like SalvadEAR Dali (I know that’s really bad..haha!). Honestly when you have a house full of interesting things already wonderfully named you might just want to name him Bob or something..a down to earth, practical anti-fancy name that will balance out all the fancifulness in the house…ok, so I don’t win the postcard pack..hehe!

  17. sadira says:

V…what a lovely story indeed! Lucky both of you, aren’t you just so amazed at how the universe works in such fantastic ways? I LOVE timing…LOVE IT. (period) I sometimes torture my mind in the silliest of ways thinking what if I hadn’t been in THAT place at THAT time? It’s a fun game (mostly because you already know what the outcome is!)
I am so very happy that your leg is on the mend…you need to be extra careful. Although, I would love to sit with my leg up for a bit…I think I shall have to seriously consider installing a chair and an ottoman here at the shop…
The postcards are wonderful! As is the new baby…I can’t think of a name for him right now though…

  18. Amy says:

I am truly happy that your leg will be getting better, sometimes it is worse not knowing what is wrong.
Such big ears this young fellow has. So he must be a good listener. That is good. And if you are a good listener, you are pretty much going to be a kind and generous person.
So, what name ,? I think “Gerard” so gentle.
Mr. Lovee, is so mysterious, I would love to your story. :)…Amy

  19. I’ll be wishing you a speedy and painless recovery! The postcard with pink is just fabulous. And oh boy, I cannot wait to read your story about how you met Mr. Lovee!
I am not so good at naming, but since I am currently in a Spanish speaking country, I would like to try for Manuel Allende Cristobal III

  20. …..you just make me giggle, giggle, giggle!
I hear no whining at all. It’s just one of those things that happen in life. You need to heal up that leg though……’cuz…..you need to “lace up that corset” for the big Swashbuckler Soiree! I will see you there with my corset on the tightest fit!!!! (hee hee) (uuughhhhhhhhhh)
    Julie Bergmann

  21. Kandes Lee says:

Maybe that is a thing you start to encounter in your 30s. I have had more injuries and pains in the last 4 years. They are all things worth whining about. Sciatica, plantar fasciitis, and things with other pleasant names. I also tend to rush around a lot trying to get everything done which causes all sorts of bump and bruises.
Your new addition is darling. I think he needs a names like …
    Thump Maché Kipling!!
Have no idea why that sprung up in my head or if it has a meaning. He just looks like a Thump. Like a little guy who wanders aimlessly through the forest trying to catch fairies.

  22. kate says:

Glad to hear the leg is on the mend. It’s quite good timing for the Swashbuckling Soiree, because every good Swashbuckler needs an old battle injury or two.
Earlier this year I went sliding down a friend’s steep pebblecrete driveway on my knee, because my shoes didn’t have very good grip on the soles. The things we endure for fashion!
The first thing I thought of when I looked at the new little friend was Dr. Kakofonous A. Dischord, a character from the book ‘The Phantom Tollbooth’, which I LOVED as a kid. But as that name has been taken already I’m sure everyone else has much more original suggestions. Whatever his name is, he’s a darling.

  23. karen says:

So sorry that your leg is injured, I do hope you feel better soon. Your clay creature reminds me of a character named Topo Gigo, a wonderful puppet that used to make guest appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show on CBS years ago. I love Donna O’Brien’s Swashbuckler Soiree, I signed up, but I am scratching my head as to what to create. I am sure yours will be excellent! Your new postcards look beautiful. My print is sitting on my desk as I type this comment. Talented gal. Karen

  24. Anastasia says:

oucheeee!!!! your poor leg…you poor thing!!
your new little clay friend should be named
    ‘Winston Eroll III’
had to laugh at Mr Loveee asking if you’re in the beauty industry haha…

  25. kayellen says:

    Hi Vanessa…You poor girl.
Guess what I did..played tennis last week and broke a bone in my right hand. I have a bright pink..neon cast!
You can see me a mile away…can’t believe you had a tennis injury too!
Heres to motrin and ice! Cheers:)
    Take care,
    kayellen

  26. Donna O. says:

There’s NO ONE like you! And I’m so ahppy you’ll be at the Soiree! Now, let’s get on with the fight over the fake eyelashes!!
    “Mine!”
    “Nooooo….MINE!”
    D.

  27. Dave says:

    Hello you!
I’m glad your leg is feeling better! I hope it heals quickly. By the way, I think you hardly ever complain about anything, so don’t worry about sounding whiny… there’s a difference between sharing things that are going on in your life and acting as if you are a victim.
Doesn’t time go fast in relationships? Trina and I were just realizing we’ve been together (if you count dating) for about 9 1/2 years now… crazy. I forget that I didn’t know her until then, it just feels like she was always there 🙂
Let’s see, names… I think his name should be Pontouf Pâtissier. (don’t you think he’d look great with a chef’s hat?) 🙂

  28. Tricia says:

Oh, I enjoyed so much learning how you and Lovee met! What a great pick up line!! haha!
YOu know dahling, my Steven and I have been together nearly 8 wonderful years also! And still not married! Ah well…I got a diamond engagement ring at least!
So, stay off that sore paw and get yerself healed tout suite mon ami!
And No more prancing down stairs in wedges with loads of bags silly girl!
Lovely postcards…Oh boy, another give-a-way!! You are too generous Lady V!
I will think about a name and get back to ya!

  29. Such beauteous hair AND shoe(s? – I assume you have both!) Sorry to hear about your Achilles – tendon damage can be quite serious as they are avascular and therefore very slow to heal…I hope it gets better very soon! And how funny – I also have a ‘lions and tigers and bears’ title on my most recent post…people will think I’m copying you! But that’s okay…if I were going to copy someone it may as well be you!

  30. Jackie says:

Oh man it must be the month for people to get hurt! I tore the ligemants in my foot this week.. doctor thought I might have broke it but x rays showed not break… I hope you feel better soon!!!

  31. CarrieJ says:

he has got to be Monsieur Hepplefitz. He is obviously a French grimalkin, maybe a descendant of the Hefflepitz? The families are very closely related. In fact, some say they are the same, but by way of running from the law one of them was tweaked slightly.

  32. Hope you will be ok, dear sweet miss V!!!
loved your story…as a “young” girl myself who met a “much older” man I could relate. hee hee hee. and I’ve been married to that “much older” man for 21 years now…he is still much older, by the way. i’m still a spring chicken. Or, goose. HONK HONK.
    xoxoxoxo

  33. Sonya says:

Hi there sweetness, I know, I know I’ve been gone too long. Your story of you and Mr. Lovee – perfect! Isn’t it wonderful when you meet those people you can talk and talk and talk to? That connection. Your postcards are wonderful – I need to make some myself. ANd your hair and eyelashes and shoes are, as ever, so very fancy. Rest up that leg of yours and keep on with your fabulousness!!!

  34. Gillian says:

    Ambroshus Diddykins the Kerflufflin Bumpkin
And I am glad you are taking care of your leg! Sheesh, slow down already!!!!
    The postcards, tres gorgeous.
Keep up the good work you inspiring chickie you!!!

  35. flyinamber says:

    Love your postcards!
    Have a nice weekend,Vanessa!

  36. ooooh…your story was too cute about how you met Mr. Loveeeeee!!! xoxoxo…jenn

  37. Mo'a says:

Poor baby…sad do see your pretty leg bandaged like that. Glad you went to the Doctor.
I am also happy that you can work sitting down…that is the great thing about what we do…although one can get tired sitting too much.
    Love your cards…love your art.
Now the little fellow said to me with a decided accent…Olafur Stutti Storeirdur VI…can you make head or tails out of that…ah!!!the mystery of elfdom…there seem to have been five others of his kind and kin.

  38. i adore how the ace bandage
    goes so well
    with your gold sparkle shoes(s).
    🙂
    thank goodness for us all
that ace NEVER goes out of style….

  39. Jennifer says:

I have just rediscovered mascara whilst educating my teenage daughter on the finer points of applying makeup and coiffing. Luckily, we have both been blessed with eyelashes no less than a yard long! Now we have to curl and paint our lashes every morning.
I love your new postcard and I love, love, LOVE your shoes!

  40. Oh my..love those gold shoes!! Hope you’re dancing in them soon! So, why was Mr. Lovee carrying a guitar? Is he a traveling minstrel? LOL As for the little man…is he Smee? kinda looks like my hubby. ooops

  41. 3rdEyeMuse says:

Bloglandia, bloglandia, oh how I love thee! I came here by way of Ms. Janet over at the Lavender Loft – goodness aren’t I grateful! My birthday is coming up soon & now I have something(s) to ask for that I’ll be really happy to receive (I’ll be emailing your shop link to peeps that love me)! Your post cards are quite amazing. I’m looking forward to spending a little time looking back through your posts.
    Have a lovely weekend, ~M~
ps – he looks a lot like a “Smudge” to me.

  42. Hi Vanessa! ~ Popping in here to say hi! 🙂
    Have a great weekend.
    CK

  43. Niki says:

When i look at that face and those lovely, ridiculous ears, I just know that his name is Berlini.

  44. sherry says:

Miss Vanessa, I am so glad that your leg is nothing serious…and with those shoes, it will take your mind off your woes (it would me — they are gorgeous!!). No swashbuckling for you young miss — except from your chair!! Hee!!
I think your little friend’s name is
    Guiseppe di Bartolo…il gremilino

Hi-Donna lead me this way and I’m so glad she did. Anyone with shoes like that must be paid some attention. Your little guy looks like Dweeddle Bub the Shorter but all his friends call him Dub. I’ll bet your home is a happier place since he moved in.
    Holley

  48. babelfish says:

Glad your leg is on the mend, the ‘Swashbuckler Soiree’ sounds like fun. So lovely to read all about how you met Mr Lovee, I adore romantic stories. Now for a name for the new boy on the block…Mr Ludwig van der Dreamer? (somehow he looks a little foreign).

  49. Lauren says:

So sorry to hear about your unfortunate leg-incident!
I think sometimes things like that occur to actually force us to slow down a little bit so a to not forget to look at what is around us.
Take care, sweet Miss V, and I look forward to hearing about many more of your upcoming adventures!

  50. Bronwyn says:

    I love that shoe!
Oh, & his name is Druber (the clay creature). 🙂
(And how romantic, about how you met & learnt about each other!)
I hope your leg will soon be perfect again, VV.
