Lemon & Flower

Little yellow flowers stand out in the garden.

While all the other flowers are sleeping, they are awake.

Shining bright, with reminders of spring and warmth and sun.

Lemons and flowers 5

I long for a…

Big wooden bowl filled with garden delights.

Much like those bowls full of colorful summer vegetables.

Remember those?

Bliss sigh…

Lemons and flowers 7

I talk to a certain Mr. Ficus.

Charming guy with his British accent and all.

He's not interested in spring or summer, he quite fancies the indoors.

He's not into too hot or too cold, or too sunny even.

He doesn't even care to socialize with the other ficus in the house.

Ficuses?

So, I set out without him.

Determined to find some garden goods for my bowl.

We are on the lasts of our citrus.

The oranges have been more than a blessing.

Sweet and fragrant and oily skinned.

Love them.

And of course, we all know the joy of a fresh lemon.

They inspire so much in me.

Clean, fresh, invigorating.

Lemons and flowers 14

I take two for today.

Then I notice a certain someone burying things in my garden.

Of course, when he saw me watching him, he acted as though he had no idea what was in the hole.

Or who had even dug it.

He marched away, never to return to it.

I had never seen him digging a hole in my garden before, I think he was afraid he was doing something wrong.  But I didn't reprimand him.  How could I?  He's too cute.

Then, I found babies in my garden.

I am a softie, as you know.

I sobbed so much over these 3 little baby rabbits, left in a very unsafe place by their mama.

I tucked them in a bit better.

I always want to keep the endless babies.

The ones who grow into teens and wreak havoc in my garden.

The ones who dig holes under cottages and workshops.

I don't fight them.

I can't.

So, I surround sprouts and things they like with chicken wire instead.

They get you right in your heart, in that little space that actually hurts when you are sad.

Those cuties do.

I head back out on my mission after the baby bunny debacle.

Treasures for the bowl.

Of course, you can always count on arugula in our garden.

Lemons and flowers 18

I love those tiny arugula flowers.

Lemons and flowers 13

Are you an arugula fan?

So spicy and buttery all at once.

Lemons and flowers 17

What a hearty abundant gift.

Lemons and flowers 16

I grab some beautiful mint as well, adding it to my lemons and yellow flowers.

Then head back inside.

Lemons and flowers 9

Putting everything in vases.

The greens we'll eat as well.

Lemons and flowers 4

Having weather chit chat with Mr. Ficus again.

Will winter just pass us by?

Will it not?

Shall I paint in the garden today?

How are the bunnies?

I open all the windows and turn up the music.

Lemons and flowers 1

What is to come of the weather?

With life?

With time?

Who knows??

We really have no control.

Just happy to be well and enjoying this moment.

For now…

Lemons and flowers 6

We have little yellow flowers to remind us of sun and spring.

Of all that is good.

Of laughing in the tree whilst swinging…

Of dancing in the warm rain.

For now, days are warm and nights are cold.

We dream of your snow.

And make plans to paint in the sun.

And maybe, we'll even paint yellow flowers.

Yes, yes.

That sounds just right.

I've got my headphones on, and I am off for a walk in the fresh air.

Then it's yellow paint.

For sure.

I am making peace with yellow.

Had too much of it as a kid and grew to not like it.

But lately, I like it again 🙂

Do you have that sort of relationship with any color?

Hope you have a wonderful day!!

Love, V

Sparkly heart

I used to be a fan of yellow but as of late, I haven’t much cared for it. I am definitely a blue person…any shade will do for me. It has been chilly here but it looks like warmer days are ahead, temperatures in the low 70’s during the day and mid 40’s at night. I’ve already been for my 3 mile walk this morning with a stiff northwest breeze off the bay chilling me to the bone. LOL
Have a wonderful day walking and painting! 😉

How lovely everything looks, greens & yellows! I look outside & all I see is white, white, white!!!
There is a light at the end of the tunnel. It is 32 outside right now! Above zero!!!
I can’t believe how many days we were below zero! Crazy times! It’s supposed to get even warmer next week! Yea!
I am so looking forward to spring! I’m sure soon enough I will be whining because it’s way too humid outside! :0)
I love baby bunnies. We have had to move or improve their nests here in the past. I’m like a mother hen watching over them after I discover their hiding places. Right now I’m outside a lot feeding all the wildlife. There is just so much snow I don’t know how they can find anything to eat.

  3. Oh My gosh, Laura, its soooo weirdly warm here!! I was thinking
about you so much, I was going to write you today in fact, because I was
wondering about your snow. Stay warm and throw a snow ball or two for me,
    wouldya? 😉

Oh the baby bunnies! Too too cute!

  5. Such a thoughtful and lovely post! It cheers up this rainy day and reminds me that spring is on its way…:)

aww you bunny saver you! I found baby bunnies once. The grass was really high and I mowed right over their den. They were fine! They were below the ground level so it didn’t hurt them at all. I covered their den back with some grass that i’d cut and left them to grow. 🙂
i want a lemon tree and an orange tree and a ficus and … and… and… 🙂 garden dreaming again here where we are covered in white (finally!). The past two days have been snow filled and fabulous! I built a snow girl! 🙂

  7. Bunny love! How adorable!
I have not been a fan of yellow, but sometimes it is just the right touch of color in a bouquet, or in a mixed media piece. I like the darker yellow as it is so vibrant and is a ‘hot’ color as compared to a ‘cold’ color. The deeper yellow reminds me of France for some reason.
I did get a copy of Somerset Life and your article was out of this world fabulous!
You may get some snow soon…winter is fickle.

    Vanessa:
Lovely yellows and greens and warm winter gardening. I was just looking at my boysenberries today and they already have buds on them. I think all of our fruit trees are being fooled into believing it’s springtime here in Southern California. Even the birds are twitterpated around here.
That little bunny is over the moon adorable. But, I know it’s gonna grow up to be a garden chomping monster! A cute garden chomping monster, though!
It was so warm here today, we had all the doors and windows open and I wore a sleeveless tank top.
I am so grateful for this weather right now. I need the sunshine!!
Thank you for sharing your world and creating a little bright spot in this crazy internet world.

  9. Violet loves the bunny!!!! Did you ever see his/her mama?
I like your nightgowns. Cozy girl.

So now if I ever have a Butler I’ll have to name him Ficus, just ’cause. 🙂
This is a super fresh post! Green and yellow is springalicious! I love the smell of lemons; and in ice cold water when it’s hot outside, there’s nothing tastier.
Wolf boy Craig has been making us this weird “belly buster” concoction that takes lemons, cucumber, mint, ginger and hmm. I forgot what else. In ice cold water, and we drink it every AM and PM, to flush out toxins. It is kinda tasty & refreshing!!
Yellow sunflowers, like you grow in summertime, the giant ones, those are dreamy summertime images, too…it DOES make me happy that spring is coming…although I have to say, though our weather has been cuckoo–30s one day, teens the next, then back up to 60s and 70s, then storms, then sun…eesh! I did enjoy the weather this weekend and looked at my little wooden garden boxes longingly….lots to do at Cool Furry Oaks, still. 🙂 Work work work!!

PS: Lil Cody lost boy who is all grown up now used to call rabbits “bibbirts.”
Da bibbirt!!!Wookie da bibbirt! Hippy hoppy!
    Aw cuteness.
    🙂

  11. This entry was even more cheerful because of the sunny yellow flowers and color burst. I love the color yellow and it’s just lovely, although orange and deep red are the ones I respond to the most and have blended into my house decor and gardens, too.

Yellow yellow! I’m in yellow mode, dreaming of the sun hoping it comes out to play sooner rather than later!
