It’s Official…

Yep, it's official.

Magical countryland 4

I am a country girl.  I never thought I would say those words so matter of factly.  But, it's true.  I spent the whole weekend in the city, and missed my lil' country world like mad.

The city pad is lovely and charming, but there are just some things I don't want to miss out on in the country (more on that, later in this post)…

Candyland 11

I suppose the nice thing is having the option to be a city girl or a country girl.  I didn't realize how unfamiliar city things have become to me while spending most of my time in the country…

The main difference being sounds.  Like helicopters and cars.

Although, I do love my city abode, it has the feeling of my single girl life being frozen in time.

Candyland 10

I had to have some workmen do some flooring things, etc.  Which by the way, the chemicals they used made me feel horribly poisoned and rotten.  I was up all night on Saturday night.  But, I was too afraid to sleep with my windows open.  I am a chicken.  (although, I run around the country alone in the dark, amongst all sorts of critters and sounds, and don't mind that at all)

I love the fresh air in the country.  I love sleeping with my windows open.  I feel safer in the country…

But, like I said, there are some good things about the city.  The main being that two gals, my friend Miss D and I, were able to meet up, since our city houses are 5 minutes apart, and have "single girl fun."

Brie (baked and melted), baguettes and berries…

Candyland 4

I cracked open a very special bottle of Ancient Coast 2002 ice wine, that I had been saving for an evening like this.  I am not a drinker at all, maybe just a few sips and then I get super sleepy…

Candyland 1

But this is a delicious dessert wine in a small thin bottle (looks much bigger on screen) that you are willing to share a few sips with.  Pop a raspberry in your mouth, sip and yummmm….

Candyland 2

A treat for us, while we giggled and chatted and laughed…

Candyland 3

We each had a tiny bit, and agreed it was truly a sweet & intense sipping experience…

Candyland 8

After brie bread and fruit, I have to admit, be couldn't eat our desserts.  But, our beaus could.  I sent some home with Miss D, and brought some back for Mister Lovee…

Candyland 7

Fruit tart love went home with Miss D as well.  I think her and I may have the same personality.  We love bringing home pretty things, but can't eat them all…

Candyland 9

Girl time with a kindred soul is such good fun…

Sunday I made my way back to the country, and Mister took me out to see another little gypsy wagon.  A tiny cute little guy.  I know, we are mad ;)

Annnnnnd, what I was more than happy to come back to the country house to was…

Magical countryland 1

A furry girl, who has been told one too many fairy tales about Alice in Wonderfurland, and has taken it upon herself to find the way, through the secret tunnel…

Magical countryland 2

Dare I say, seeing what a believer she is, she just might get there…

Magical countryland 3

One of the many things, I can't live without, in this dusty little country pad…

I have art pieces I have been working on for a month, and elves that have been needing paint and all sorts of fun things waiting for me for ages.  And, I have been visited by a story via piano for two months that I would like to get recorded.  So, today is the day to get back to work 😉

Much more sooooooon.  But now, I have to go call SONY because my new camera is putting thick white and black lines all over my photos, EEEEEK!  A-n-n-o-y-i-n-g.

🖤,V

A good friend of mine is a city girl and I am a country girl. If I stay at her house I am bothered by street lights, car noise and that whole thing you mentioned about not wanting an open window because it’s kinda scary. She comes out here and is scared by the idea of wild animals and the fact that there aren’t enough lights around at night (yes, but you can actually see the stars that way!) and that there aren’t really curtains on the windows because no one lives close enough to peek in. It’s funny indeed.

  3. Mo'a says:

I am a city girl…who live in the country…deep in the woods 🙂
However, I must admit that as exciting as I find the city…I need a dose of bus exhaust every now and then…it is always good to come back home to the woods.
That being said, I would still prefer to live in a small city…with a city garden and a coffee shop down the street.

  4. Rhonda Roo says:

Silly Baby! Buddy does krazy digging too! Except, Cowboy planted some flowers along the base of one the steppes in our backyard and Buddy went right behind him and dug them up! I dont think it was a “furry tale” that inspired him, i think it was a rather loud and clear statement of opposition for placement of said plant life. 🙂
CONGRATS Country Girl! I lived in & around Miami a large majority of my life (was born there)….fast forward to me now, happy as a bee in the springtime, love love love the protective trees and night sounds-i have named the bats that swoop overhead during my hour of content lat night walks. I would much rather listen to the armadillo rootin’ around in the woods than sirens!
When i have to stay in a hotel on a business trip, i hear every little noise and wait for the boogie man. Crazy!

  5. What fun! I love all the photos of the beautiful desserts! YUMO! I love having choices, too. I like spending time in our new condo but it will be nice to travel and be near the ocean. What a blessing to have the best of both worlds. Enjoy your day!

  6. Carl V. says:

I can certainly understand your love for the country. I grew up in the country, have lived in the city, and now live in a small town that is part of the metro area of a big city. I enjoy that it still feels somewhat like country where I live and yet am close enough to take advantage of things like big bookstores, theatres, etc. that I would miss if I were too far away. Ideally one day we’ll move somewhere a little more out in the country. I much prefer the sights, sounds, and smells of nature to those same things in a town or city.

  7. Miss V
I too, was a city girl, and now I live in the country, and only go to the city once a year.
    Love all the pretty goodies
Check out my blog, it was inspired by you

I’m with ya all the way on the country girl thing…

  9. Marlene says:

Hello Miss V., Ahhhh the pro & cons of city vs. country….two sooo different worlds that can be sooo close…when I was a little orfin gal I had the honor of living with my dad’s mom my Grandma on a farm during the summers ohh the fun I had with all my cousins & brother building tree houses, camping by the stream – the variety of pets/farm animals the sounds of the crickets, lightening bugs galore and sooo much more but then the rest of the year was spent with our guardians (my mom’s family) in the glamour of city lights – the corner store, the sound of the trains, downtown shopping, your best friend living next store, playing hop scotch on the side walk and the ice cream man coming through with his daily supply of treats…now these are some of the things I loved about each…I have grown – I couldn’t stay young like Peter Pan – but in my memories I can…now I live at the Jersey Shore, but I long for a tiny cottage by the sea in a place hidden in the forest where the sea & land meet side by side and I can hear the crickets serenading me by the lights of the lightening bugs…oh but a dream, that I hope to be reality…thank you for sharing with us Miss V…and I soo love your furry gal she reminds me of a grand ole lady that lived with me and never left my side – her name was Mizz Chili…thank you again…have a honey of a night – sweet dreams and may sweet things come your way! grace & peace 2 “U” Marlene alias Miss HoneyBee aka Mizz QBeeC…..P.S. I loved your article in Artful Blogging for Halloween and I loved your ladies that you created the article in Somerset, I ventured out and created one little gal too, she made an appearance in my blog – queenbeeofcreativity.blogspot.com

  10. I’ll help you with the desserts! I will also teach you about sweets. You cannot eat large sandwiches and then cake. First cake, then when you get hungry again you eat the sandwiches. There, I taught you something! 😉

  11. icantsew says:

you remind me of my sister in many ways, perhaps that is why i like visiting you so much…your children and granchildren will have such a glorious time searching through all of your ‘gifted treasures’ in many years to come.

  12. sadira says:

I was just talking to a good friend this weekend who actually lives in your neck of the woods…she has recently been traveling, and says when she does she often likes to have her “should I move?” feelers out…and has decided that being in the city feeds an urban love that she has…but that she is so excited about going back home. (Although, the city where you are isn’t as country as some places…it’s certainly less city. If that makes sense…?)

  13. Deborah says:

Love the photo of your baby in the hole! Actually love all the photos as usual. But the food photos are torture. In my dotage I must count my weight watchers points and you have posted all of my downfalls! Luckily, looking at them is point-free. Such a lovely life you are building out there in the country. **blows kisses** Deborah

  14. Cori. G says:

Every night I’m lulled to sleep by the whirring sound of helicopter blades, sirens, and screeching tires. Why some evenings I’m jolted awake from giant explosions and I wonder, “was that fireworks, gun fire, or was it both?” But then I roll over and enjoy some sweet blissful slumber. And then there’s the eerie nights when I wake at two in the morning to the screeching and wicked cackling of Maleficent as she threatens to torch Mickey to death with her fire breathing antics. Yes, the city has nightly sounds and not all of them are pleasant…but when you have a man who adores you and you adore him back anything is tolerable, but what I wouldn’t give for a night of crickets chirping in the trees.
Did Baby Monkey find her way through the rabbit hole?

  15. Shell says:

I’m a born and bred city girl. I also love the country especially your piece of heaven. Sometimes it’s good to go to other places for a while. And speaking of heaven..those desserts look yummy.

  16. Krista Komis says:

You are soo so sweet Vanessa, I’m glad you like everything, I am completely honest when I say I have too much fun making little goodie bags & parcels, and when I leave I end up covered in all sorts of things…confetti, paint, etc. It’s a dangerous thing…anyway, I adore your post and I gotta say that though I dream of living in the city it’s so wonderful to have the windows open and space to stretch out and breathe fresh air.
    XOXO,
    ~Krista

  17. As I age I find it’s less about chocolate and more about craving treats like Creme Brulee or the delicious Fruit Tart you mentioned. Oh Nomnomnom. Eat it all up and drink the ice wine too…but of course I am a wicked thing. >;)
BTW, if you are on Facebook I’d love to add you on my Friends List. It’s not as artistic or verbose as my Live Journal, but there are great links to sites and recipes.

  18. Oh your ‘girls weekend’ sounds divine and that fruit tart, choco cake and Icewine, mmmm! Now that’s what I’m talking about. Speaking of Pooches, have you seen the movie ‘Bolt?’ We are having a sleepover and we just got done watching it (I know how you like your movies 😉 It’s a really good one and funny, if you are in to that, tee hee. Glad you are back to your country house. I’m a country girl at heart too…shhhh, don’t tell anyone.
    Jamie 🙂

  19. Vickie says:

Sounds so nice, wine, fruit, and chocolate cake! I like the country too though I have lived in town for a very long time now. I miss the magic of a moonlight night with no city lights.

  20. Marjorie says:

    OH! That…….cake…..must…….eat!
    tee hee!!
From one country girl to another:
“Don’t you wish we could roll about in it like dogs!?” (of course…..mud puddles and dirt will work just as well as snow….non!?) tee hee!
Oh, what a goose I am today!!
Thanks for your lovely, bright world to visit!!

  21. i also had to return to mention that whenever you wish to visit ENGland, just holler! xxx

  22. SueAnn says:

Country air is superior for sure!! Those desserts look amazing! What a beautiful time you had with Miss D!!
I travel along with the speed of a snail. I don’t want to miss anything. Like the covey of quail that took up residence in my yard!
    How beautiful is that?
    Hugging you
    SueAnn
