Fluffs & Puffs, & Petals too…

Hello there, from a place where clouds and petals make my day, and beckon me to hang around under the trees, and stay and stay and stay…

Garden petals 12

I am desperately infatuated with anything garden (as you might have noticed).

The days have been gasp worthy.

Have they been like that where you are too?

Winds that almost embrace you, and kiss your cheeks ever so gently?

I am working to get myself back to 100% – but still a tinge noodley.

The sunrise has been…

Garden petals 13

Blissful beyond words…

Garden petals 14

I almost felt like I could touch the clouds…

Garden petals 5

I am so thankful to you, deeply really, for being so open to my chat in the last post.  And for making me feel like I didn't make a mistake talking about life things.

Garden petals 10

One thing about me is that, I can only be myself.  I can't hide how I feel.  And normally, things are pretty darn lovely, thank heavens.  But it's only natural that there would be splashes in the face of yucky things from time to time.  They certainly make the sweet sweeter.

I am so glad I shared true thoughts, and that you did too.  It makes me feel closer to so many of you.  Thank you for that.

I have been spending a lot of my time in the garden.  I think I jumped on a 12 ft. ladder, plus hauled cactus too soon though.

Did I tell you we had a monumental freeze this past winter?  It caused lots of havoc, what with 15 ft. cactus crashing down, etc.  So we have about 40 huge piles (literally a ton) of cactus mess around our property to clean up (never mind the scent of rotting cacti – but I moved the worst of it to the way back, with Mister saying, "Dovee, for goodness' sake, you can't do all that by hand!" and me ignoring him and doing it anyway).

Our rare cactus garden, which was huge and beautiful, is pretty much gone with the freeze (poor Mister Lovee growing it for 20 years).  Cactus take ages to grow huge.

It never freezes like it did this winter.  It was wild cold.

I think I need to ask santa for a small tractor next year.  I am so serious 😉

Hmmmm, yes yes.  I must.

On the petal front…

I popped a few Supertunia Double Peppermints in the garden, here and there.

Garden petals 2

Isn't that an intense name for frilly ruffled petunias?

Garden petals 1

I am so loving the columbines…

Garden petals 11

The giant aloes are shooting up their flowers that look like fireworks…

Garden petals 4

For some reason I just have to have a hibiscus plant in my garden.  Although, it is colder at the country house than at the city house, where I used to grow huge and hearty hibiscus plants.  So, I have to be careful planting them in the country.  I grew up drinking agua de jamaica (and still do).  Which is like a sweet hibiscus tea, using special hibiscus tea leaves. Yumm!

Garden petals 7

And, I love dahlias.

They win me over every time.

Garden petals 9

I also planted seeds I harvested from last year's red and yellow dahlias.

There are lots of volunteer yarrow plants from last year's seed…

Garden petals 8

And…

Bucket of roses are making their way!

Hoooray!

Garden petals 15

I was able to bring a few in yesterday…

Roses

Roses.

I love them, and it seems, so does Miles.

He is plucking the blossoms off of anything he can find.

Isn't that naughty?

He is so lucky I adore him, or he'd be in big trouble.

Silly pup.

Well, I best be off.

You are lovely!

Love, V

A Sparkly Heart see you soon

  1. Vanessa:
Actually, thank you for sharing your real life. We all have those ups and downs. Sharing your experience with vertigo helps others to know that they are not alone in that suffering. It’s good to be able to share experiences and compare notes!
Your garden is going to be doubly delicious this year. I love those double petunias. I gave up on growing petunias here…many years ago. The cut-worms feast on them and it really just turns into a horrible mess. So, I opt out of every plant that is in the cut worms diet…including geraniums.
I’m glad you’re starting to feel better, other than a tinge noodley! I know exactly what you mean! Although, I think I’m rather noodley all the time, even when I’m not dizzy.
    Talk to you soon:

    Gerushia’s New World

  2. Your flowers are so beautiful, Vanessa! I will enjoy yours, while I wait for mine to wake up! : )

  3. Dearest Miss V,
The garden is looking so lovely and vibrant with color. Goodness. Every color of the rainbow. I love that little peppermint petunia. and the red and yellow dahlia. Gorgeous. Well really they all are just beautiful. I am so happy that you are getting back to better.
“I love that word (noodly) though” So sad that you had to feel too much of that feeling though, but I think I should like to use “noodly” in a way to describe my brain activity as well the last few days, but not in such a bad way. LOL>
Hope sunshine and puffy clouds feel the skies, and lots of blooms feel the garden with enchantment in the upcoming days for you and the boys.
PS… and not too awfully much work.
    hug,hug, kiss,kiss,
    wishes and whimsy

Vanessa, your photographs make me want to do incredible things (like crafts and drawings), to think of enchanting places, and they remind me of how simple and beautiful things can be. You are an inspiration!

  5. Renee says:

Your flowers are beautiful. I love petunias, I plant pots and baskets of them every year. I also have columbines. We also grow dahlias. Right now our azeleas are starting to bloom. They are so pretty.
I love this time of year when I see green leaves popping up all over and then wait to see which flowers show up again.
It would be nice if we all had lives that were perfect all the time. But that isn’t real life. Sometimes I think sharing real life makes us all real people.

  6. milthon1985 says:

hola vanessa como estas dime si

  7. I love you not because of who you are, but because of who I am when I am with you.

  8. Kelly says:

The chill really did a number on our plants here in Phoenix and there was so much we had to cut down and oh the weeds, yikes!
The clouds today were so awesome I just wanted to take a nice little nap outside.
Vanessa, I am sooo glad you are getting your energy back day by day. Now listen to Mr. L, because you know he wants only the best for you and you don’t want to have a set back.
I am so sorry about Mr Lovees cactus garden it is a shame, all those years. A tractor would have helped you both immensely I am sure.
I had to giggle over your comment about Miles, it is fortunate he is so loved and adorable.
Well, your garden will be blooming before to long, I have no doubt. You are very determined and you have a lot of love poured into it. Your roses so far are just beautiful and I bet they smell heavenly.
Cheers to spring and to you feeling healthy and energetic once again! <3&:)

  9. Linda Diane says:

Oh, Miss Vanessala la Lovely, do NOT make me come over there two whole states away in order to plant myself firmly at the base of your 12-ft. ladder and demand that you come down right this instant. “No noodley ladder climbing permitted!” I would cry upwards to you as you disappeared into the fluffy clouds like some Jack in the Beanstalk adventurer. I would only be doing it because I luvs you so. Only your best interests at heart. OK, I will trust your judgment, but do be careful with your sweet self.
I, too, am sorry about the cactus loss. Hard to experience, I know, but I hope the loveliness of your garden blooms will help ease the loss. I love the blooms you share with us.
As for “winds that almost embrace you, and kiss your cheeks ever so gently,” as you put it . . . Our wind has been quite an ill-mannered fellow more intent on playing tackle football with us rather than kissing us gently on the cheek. We have had some wicked blowing hereabouts lately.
First you have to fret about the GOPHERS claiming your plantlings. Now Mr. Miles is playing the Queen of Hearts and screaming, “Off with their heads,” and then carrying out the dastardly deed himself?? Perhaps the perfect lead-in to an announcement of the Mad Tea Party to come?
It’s Friday! Yay! May you have a noodley- free weekend!

  10. Linda Diane says:

Make that Jack AND the Beanstalk. Not Jack *in* the Beanstalk. Oopsity. Methinks the latter sounds more like an episode of The Magic School Bus . . . .

Good Day Mz. V…thank you melady for being so open about your happenings…sometimes its good to let loose and release things that can take away our loving, caring and creative energy ~ overall it can take away all our good feelings…I know that a lot of folks in cyber space will agree with me that you put a smile on many of our faces, heARTs & souls when we are having bad days… sooo go ahead and release to us, so we can do the same in return for you… thank you from the bottom of my heart for always brightening up my days I’ve had many bad days since May of last year with health, finances, and just not being myself…you have put many a smile & light back into some of those days for me…thank you ;O) Have a honey of a day ~ may sweet things come your way! Grace, Peace, Joy, Love & many blessings 2 U ;O) xox

  13. So glad to see you returning to the the world of trust again, and I agree with the hard work tendencies, I do the same to prove “Im fine!”, I never was much of a sitter or rester especially when youve been knocked out of the world for a week.
Ohh but the garden, Im quite excited to see what this year brings, and I want to smell those roses so much, with it being Autumn there are not much around, but today I will go hunt some down and put them with me in my art room (where I will be today a Im going to be child free Yipeee) and smell their scents and send happy body wishes to you. Yes the weather is rather wild at the moment, and I feel for Lovee that all the hard work can be taken out in an instant, such huge life lessons our gardens teach us.
Well have a wonderful day, loving the world your in.

  14. Jackie Leonard says:

Dearest Noodley, I felt so sorry for you and your bout with vertigo last post but gawd I feel so very, very sorry for Mr. Lovee (this time only!) because of his loss. As I have said before, I gardened for some 40 years and I know the devastation of losing “anything” in a garden, let alone a whole crop! One time I lost an entire acre of vegetables to a tornado and never wanted to plant again, but then once you’ve gotten your hands dirty in a garden you never rest, come springtime! Only now, when I’m living in the city and can’t garden does it pull at my heart strings something terrible. Take care of yourself or you’ll end up a decrepit old lady like me, who can’t walk without something to help her keep her balance. Fondly, the “poop” lady

  15. Sigh…your garden of flowers all over the place is divine. I love the super petunias…what glorious fluffy petals they have. I have succulents in pots all over my back patio…I treat them like they are babies and carefully water them so they don’t dry up during the summer months. I actually need to transplant a lot of them as they are overflowing their pots with new babies. So, I can relate to and share in the loss of the cacti that you and Mr. Lovee lost to the freeze.
We had hail this afternoon… not a common thing for the middle of April here in Central California…the weather has been quite unusual this winter everywhere.
Take care my dear friend and try to relax in between your bursts of energy.
    Have a lovely weekend,
may fairy dust fall upon everything you touch,
    Miss Teresa

  16. Theresa says:

    Dear Vanessa,
I am happy that you are on the mend. What glorious flowers you’re sharing with us today. It is a wee strange to see flowers blooming that we don’t normally get to enjoy until the summer. Such a treasure! We are seeing signs of life…many daffodils, strawberry plant leaves, hydrangea leaves…little by little the earth is springing back to life here after such a harsh winter. Take care and have a wonderful weekend!!! xoxo Theresa

  17. gillian says:

That lush garden of yours is making me jealous! Only today for the very first time did I see colour in the world of flowers…icicle pansies are out and that is the first cold resistant flower we see here in the markets in Ontario. I will pick up a few pots of them because we are so colour impoverished it isn’t even funny. Winter’s monotones and bleakness make you so tired wow!!!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden with us. xoxo
Have to catch up with the last post now to see what you are talking about.

  18. olivia says:

That last photo is pure beauty 🙂 x

  19. Miles is one of those mischievous pups who you can’t get mad at for getting into things, because he is so cute! Beautiful flowers, bummer about the cacti 🙁 but glad you are starting to feel better. Hugs,
    Jamie 🙂

  20. Rhonda Roo says:

well, i am happy to report that i am commenting *LIVE* from the future site of Roostah & Cowboy’s Fantabulous Garden Extravaganza! (I got internets waaayyy out here!) Well….we have tilled and tilled and now we’re digging to put in posts (well me & Cowboy’s twin brother and the Lost Boys-Cowboy is supervising from a shady spot in a comfy chair under the magnolia tree) and stretching poultry netting (there’s a science to it) and ohhhh…. guess what? According to the Mother Earth website, your yarrow and marigolds are natural pest controls! COOLIO! I bought sweet alyssum to attract insects that eat other bad insects and sunflowers-birds like ’em and then they well use them as perches to check the garden for other bad insects.
    YAY!
    i am sunburned
    BOO
but it is a beautiful sunshiney day, with blue sky and bunny clouds – i think monday night it rains and storms
    LOL
    maybe i shoulda emailed….
    XOXOXOXOX
love to fur babies & lovee & you!
    {better go now -i am slacking}

  21. Jeanne Kelly says:

So glad you are feeling better – I’m so sorry for your unfortunate bouts with the Evil ‘V’. Sh…not so loud or he’ll hear us….
Your garden is so full of color and beauty and you capture all of this with warmth and softness. Thank you for sharing your life and your art – you are special !

  22. Kristin says:

I love all those flowers, especially the marigolds! They remind me of my childhood home when they were growing by the driveway. I’m sorry about your cacti, but now there’s room for new growth!
