Speaking of dreams… She awoke from a slumber, a bit discombobulated from her REM voyages by night and the lack of structure in the prior day…
As the cool tips of her toes graced the floor, she realized, she was awaking as another.
She awoke as the goddess of her own domain. Royalty in her own world. For if that was the only domain she was to rule, then she was satisfied.
She thought perhaps she was still dreaming… She scurried to a mirror…
Ooo lala… A princess? Is that what she found herself as? She had no desire in being queen, quite honestly…
She felt a bit like Natacha Atlas, rather than an Elizabethan… She adjusted the heavy jewels that were a part of her "everyday attire." (if she was truly royalty, that is)
She was certain she was dreaming. The light was intense, everything moved slowly…
She wondered what it truly might be like, to be royalty during the renaissance… For your costume of the day, to be the greatest worry of the day…
She started to realize, this was no dream… She was really scheduled to be Princess for the day…
And, she was told, she better take it seriously. The Master would be in soon to greet her, and she must be in tip top shape.
Slowly, her personality changed. She became a bit quiet. Her movements were in fact slower. More careful. She was aware of each ring, each jewel, the head dress. Her eyelashes (which were not false as she was annoyingly often asked, and not believed) were getting caught in her head lace…
Her persona became a bit of what someone might call, somber…
There was a knock at the door, but no pause to wait for her to say "come in." A servant burst in (not really), announcing the entrance of the Master.
He snapped his fingers. A group of musicians appeared. The song told them what to do next.
Dance…
And so they danced. He did not ask her what her day might be like. He did not ask her, if she was happy. He did not care.
When the dance was finished, he was gone like a gust of wind…
She looked around. The chamber maid asked her what she would do today. Goodness, she found herself, wondering, "what shall I do today??" She knew her attire would determine the scope of what she "could do" with her day…
Jewels and a head dress that were becoming exhausting. A long gown with layers and layers, and heavy beading…
She replied – I suppose I shall, take my breakfast in the garden. Then perhaps go for a short walk. I shall pick fresh flowers. And then, return to dress for dinner.
She took her tea and cakes in the garden. A solitary bee amused her…
She enjoyed her Queen Cake…
After that, she picked some flowers… She found herself feeling increasingly exasperated.
As real royalty – noone cared what she did. She wasn't allowed any friends, and she was to keep herself preoccupied during that day.
She was lonely. Sad. She longed to be free. Her husband the Prince, slated to be King, didn't care what she did. He didn't even care what she wanted or thought.
And her wardrobe, oh how it imprisoned her…
She found that the only thing left to do, was find a bench in the shade, and sleep. To avoid the reality of her sad, boring, Princess life…
As she slept, she heard a familiar voice. "Dovee Dovee, where are you?"
The voice in her princess dreams. The voice of true love. The voice of laughter and kindess and caring… A woodsman!!
I am over here, on the bench, she cried out, realizing it was all a dream. She wasn't a real Princess. The hippie debonairish Mister Lovee ran towards her. "You look spectacular Dove, who are you today?" he cried out…
She ripped off her head dress and proclaimed, I am ME!!! And with that, they took hold of each other's hands, and skipped off in complete bliss…
So, it's safe to say – being a real Princess might be real real stinky. And being a fake Princess for the day, OH SO much Better!!
Wearing cozy clothes, driving a real car, showers and bathrooms? People who love you, kids who need you – SO much better than you thought!!
Being a princess of the old world, not all it's cracked up to be.
Life as you know it. GRAND! Chickaboom…
Study. Complete.
🖤 xoxo, V
ps: Oh, and our version of, off to Target, so much better… (another comic from Mister Lovee, blog post appropriate)

You make me smile very time I sneak by for a fairytale or two 🙂 Chickaboom
Loving the post. Your Princess attire and jewels are lovely! Being a queen myself I can understand how tiring it can be. Although this is my fantasy life of course.
You always bring a smile to my face and make my mind drift to a creative place. Thank you Vanessa! You are truly a Princess and gift to us all.
Hugs, Bobbi Jo
I am reading this right before bedtime…do you think this is wise? Will I dream of a trip to Target? Will I be beautiful and have some of the beautiful jewelry you wear? I’ll think about it….dream about it….and be Princess of my dreams ( or Queen of the Queen size bed…as my hubby always says! heehee) Good night, Princess…sweet dreams!
Your blog has totally inspired me to think about blogging differently. Heck, even living differently! I found a magic wand, got a swirly skirt, and danced. I have candles and garland and jewels around. I feel more content and inspired, all because of you! (now, if only I could get your puffy white skirt!)
Vanessa,
You are such a beautiful girl, besides being a wonderful storyteller. I love your imagination, and this post is another enchanting trip to Neverland.
I hope you have a lovely evening filled with dreams of magical places.
Karen
HAHAHAHA- LOVE it and so true!!! We are so lucky these days.
Oh I do love your little stories…and the accomplying photos…and lordy target has designer labels now!
My Dear Princess Vanessa,
You had me envious throughout this post, and then I wound up laughing my head off at the end. “I’m ME!” So funny.
I love the fact that Mr Lovee plays along while you dress up. My Marble Man would just look at me as if I’d sprouted two more heads… or check me into Bellevue where I believe I have my very own private Rubber Room on permanent reservation. 😉
You make me envy the fact you have so many playful garments to match your changing moods and personalities. Oh, how I WISH I could go shopping with you for a day!
xoxo,
Kate
Yes, I find that fake eyelashes thing to be annoying as well. I can totally tell yours are real!
I am glad you came back from the world of princesses…it would have been tragic if you had been forced to be queen…they are always so mean…at least in the stories.
Erin 🙂
hehe I would totally fantasize about the strong woodsman if I were a princess too! But if it were only for a day I wouldn’t sit around in the garden… I’d be using my royal treasury and be shopping!
Miss V, I loved our trip as a Princess with a gypsy feel to her. It is nice to imagine this, it is so much better to be ourselves in this time.
As always, I love all the beautiful pictures. I especially like seeing your lovely face.
Hugs to you.
V,
I have hug to share with you. I received my lovely things from you today; Ellen (my soon to be sweet 16) picked ‘Siren’ for room as one of her gifts. That’s what I give my 16 year old; not keys to a car; but ART! All the lovelies you packed in with our prints (Bird Girl goes in my room & so appropriate!) I was ruminating on the princess life when the sewer main backed up and flooded our two bathrooms. I’ve just spent my evening mopping up unspeakable things and the plumber won’t grace me with his presence until tomorrow. So; I’ll have to wrangle 4 cats into my studio workroom and our Foster kitty into my daughters room until they leave.
but i digress…
Thank you again for such lovely stories and while being ‘in today’ meant mopping up all the things we are happier flushing away; it was made nicer to look at your lovley prints; be thankful nienie had a good day too and know in this life; we measure the happiness by the degrees of sorrow.
Love & kisses
Stacy

So you truly are the “O Fanciful One” dripping in exotic jewels and delicate lace.
I knew it!
But it is also true that a palace is nothing more than a gilded cage in which to while away the slow tedious hours until old age takes over and the senses are dulled. Isn’t it more fun to be frivolous and free?
Your jewels are very lovely indeed!
Oh how I love the movie Elizabeth! Cate Blanchett is so beautiful and her gowns simply take my breath away.
Fair Princess V. I hope you and your woodsman have a magical evening!
xoxo Cori
I loved the photo of the two hands. Ethereal and full of love!
Sweetest V,
How beautiful ya look in all ya Princess Finery! I am envious of ya bee spending time with the blooming flowers. I am in Winters hold and all is dreary in my word. Sad I had no dream as wonderful as ya’s. Mayhap I will venture into my Native land where She Who Wanders Dwells. I am a Native American princess and enjoy wandering in the woods.I shall make an entry as to how I received my name.
For now I will be Poetic Dreams where my dreams become poems.
Wishing ya a wonderful night hun.
Big Hugs~
Chickaboom indeed!
Enchanting photos, brilliant story as always! Cute comic too!
Yes, though the thought of being a real princess seems fun at first, it is probably a lot of work. Besides, when you live in a magical little world as you do, you can be whatever you like! 🙂
~Krista
P.S. I looove your jewelry, I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love it. (You really can just never have ‘too much’ jewelry, it’s impossible. Guys oftentimes don’t understand this, but I say just go with it. My jewelry collection is still growing..)
Dearest Vanessa, you are a beautiful princess, who spins enchanted tales of mystery, magic and romance. Please don’t ever lose your unique abilities to inspire and entertain. xoxox
Bee-jeweled indeed, your post makes the 8 more inches of fresh snow here disappear for a moment…ahhhh.
I spotted a bee so here is my drill:
I came here and what did I see?
found a picture that shows a bee…
if you don’t mind,
I would like the world to see,
a link, a picture, in a post from me!
Smile you have “bee”n spotted! I do a weekly bee spotting post and would like to show you off in my next post, usually every Tuesday. If you wish not to bee featured, let me know ASAP!!
With that in mind and the conclusion of your story…yes it might bee nice to bee a princess or queen but it is the colony that functions as one to make life sweet with it’s honey!
somehow i imagine being a princess differently… and my your eyelashes are long!
%^_^%
no princess duty for me…i am the queen…love the story and the images…you are too cute…hugs
You almost made me feel sorry for our Royal Family just then and I CANNOT believe those eyelashes are not fake, if they are not then I am envious beyond belief.
Such a pretty tale, beautiful princess. It makes me so happy to know that there are other eternal children out in the world, especially ones that spread fairy dust and hopeful dreams.
Love,
Alberta
Chickaboom, boom, boom! What a beautiful fairy tale, but how could we have lived without Target back in the days of princes and princesses?
1. What gorgeous eyelashes you have, my dear!
2. I have been lost in the pages of a novel, lost in another time where women wore beautiful gowns to court in Versailles. Thank you for the reminder that my jeans and t shirts, and the little girls clinging to my legs are oh so much more decorative.
3. I’m glad you have a lovee woodsman to make you happy.
It is so much better to be who you REALLY are. Dreams are nice but not what they are really cracked up to be. Glad you snapped out of it and are Vanessa again. You are Vanessa aren’t you? LOL LOL
Kris
Oh. My. Dear little New Age Hippie. Is there no end to your astonishing talents…Photographer extraordinaire, director, stage hand, model. How ever do you choose … Ahh…you don’t! Thank you for sharing all of your splendid gifts with the world and inspiring us commoners to live Life to the Fullest.
**blows kisses** Deborah
Aaaahhh!
Chickaboom!!!
My husband and I say that all the time!! eeeep! tee hee!
Yes, being a real-life, old-world Princess would grow tiring quite fast…..as would, I’m sure, being a woodland nymph or faerie-woman…..Showers and bathrooms are lovely things, indeed!! 🙂
Oh Target….my shopping-friend, I miss you! (We have no such magical shop here in the mountains…tee hee!
I’m reading your blog before bed every night from now on. I’ll dream of being a princess!
Lovely
Hi little Miss Precious… I think the Queen would have allowed me to be your friend, and we could have laughed and played and skipped around all day in our finery and it wouldn’t have been too heavy, because when you have a friend they share your burdens and bring lightness to your life. Oh and your handsome woodsman would have had a gorgeous friend for me too!!
p.s. so glad to get more glimpses of your beautiful face and extravagant lashes.
such lovely photos 🙂
so funny….the dreamy story of princes and princesses….dancing in the bright sunlight….
snapped back to reality, TARGET!
x..x
Oh sweetheart princess. I too would not want to be queen.
But I was queen for the day because I received some magic in my mail box.
It was confined in a steel cage and was impossible to open, but I percevered and I opened it. I did it.
I was met with pink ribbon over a beautiful box. There was little green dust like particles with the odd sparkle attached.
In side was a dream, and now there is a little bird that sits in a little next in a wicker bowl just over my right shoulder.
I love it.
Vanessa it was just the most wonderful prize ever.
You are a magic person.
Love Renee
Interested in Palm Reading? I just did yours… You’re spoiled, in love with yourself, and somewhat lunatic…
This post makes my heart sing! What a fabulous and magical way to spend your day.
Lovely post! I just finished reading “Here Be Dragons”, a terrific historical novel about King Richard, King John, and Llewelyn the Great, and it was full of lovely costumery.
I posted a picture of my Quiche..and put links to your blog and recipe! It was delicious! We were thrilled have a new dish that we can make and enjoy! Thank you!
http://lavenderdreamstoo.blogspot.com/
As always, I log in every month or so, and am always AMAZED!!! Your photography, stories, exquisite!
(I love Target, too…)
Oh yes, I agree that a princess needs a woodland man who loves and understands her…..
But every princess needs a few ladies to spend her long, lazy dressed up days with …. just to keep her from being too lonesome or mischevious.
You must invite some over for another post! I’m sure you could dress them all!
Ooooohhhh…..you make us all dream! Thank you faerie princess….again.
Oh what a beautiful princess Vanessa! Lovely rings on your fingers, and I especially love your cross. I just made one the other day.
Take care,
Martha
All girls are princesses (I stole that from the book, The Little Princess). It’s true, of course, but you are our role model. Happy
We should all spend a day being a princess….and then wake to find our real, enchanting lives. Lovely fairy tale!
Such fun Vanessa!!
I want to come over and try on all that lovely jewelry you have!!!
You must have a large treasure chest 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend! I bet it is gorgeous this time of year in your home town…
I am headed to San Diego to watch my son play rugby tomorrow…and hoping to stop at the Barn on the way back…to shop!!!
Hugs,
K
It’s so wonderful to have people that really do care isn’t it! AND to be able to dress up!
What fun it would be to have a play date with you 🙂 I get to be Queen!!! I am quite used to a heavy crown.
You are a beauty my dear and those eyelashes are amazing.
Mr. Loveee is a Prince indeed…who is the woodsman?
I posted a photo of our little Princess…and I need advise won’t you please come over…I value your opinion.
Wonderful…waking from the dream to the life you have is often so much better isn’t it??
Then again…so is going to Target! Did you see those HUGE balls of lovely rhinestone goodness in their jewelry cases? Oh my…
Brilliant mix of dreamland and comic!
I imagine being a modern princess like you is less boring than an old one, or maybe it’s just a question of habit. I’m sure they had plenty to think about…
I came over after Lavender Dreamer posted a link!
You are so fun…I am Queen of the backyard with lots of bugs and birds…I wear dirt well!
Fun story.
Thank you,
Sherry
Dress up is so much fun (it’s probably a huge reason behind my being a kindergarten teacher-shh! Don’t tell!)~ though I prefer the twirly dresses to the heavy bling.
Pre-requisite for being a princess? Twirling skills, obviously.
🙂 So glad the Woodsman saved you!
Michaele
Hello Miss Vanessa,
Wow!What a show!
~ Gabriela ~
Now you’ve got me singing that song…chickaboom, chickaboom don’t you just love it…
Oh…and i love, love, love the blue of the princess’s lace!
What a lovely fairy tale!
How perfectly whimsical! Loved it!
What a magical post…
I much prefer being a Princess too…Queens have far too much responsibility and I would rather my day be filled with Frivolity 🙂
LuLu~*xoxo
Yes, we are fortunate today with modern life luxuries! We live grander than kings did at one time.
Cute comic at the end. 🙂

I do love your photos as well as your story and I hope all women will become a bit quite, movements became slower. But we all know that it is not happening in reality.
