Art, Tragedy & Silly? (cut the drama, ha)

I am back from my little road trip.  Did a little painting to help my soul today.  In the form of these two little loves. In the shop now…

Sometimes… Acrylic, Ink Illustraion, and Fabric Collage, on 9.5" x 10" wood.

As for the trip…

It was nice to get away with Mr. Lovee.  Sadly, the trip was strange.  It started like this…

And, very quickly, turned to this… So much for driving into the sunset…

Waiting for 3 hours.  In the car.  With a girl who can't sit still.  Just when we thought we were out of the woods…

Now, we are not freeway/city folks.  We are back road, stay out of traffic folks.  You can imagine how delighted we were. The freeway was closed in both directions. It was havoc.  A huge light post was down across the entire freeway. YIKES! Anyhow, it took us 6 hours to get to our destination.  Hopefully noone was hurt…

We made up for all of our frustrations the next few days, by ruining all those hard work outs, with the following events…Use your imagination…

What a charming town Prescott, Arizona is.  We were in such a whirlwind, I didn't even get to make contact with Sadira.  It is too hard to do, with a man with you.  Next time, girls only!!

We had the loveliest dinner, it was delicious.  But, perhaps a little too delicious.  I ended up getting the worst belly ache, and it was alka-seltzer and bed for me.  But, the food at this place was incredible and the music was fantastic! (129 1/2 Jazz Grille, Prescott Az.)

The Hassayampa hotel was lovely as ever.  However, there was a group of people staying there that were so obnxious and loud. Really, out of control. They were running around slamming doors, and had a bunch of us standing in the hall freaking out at 2am.  It went on until 5a.m.  The hotel said they would send up security, but it didn't happen.  We were told we would get some money back. We'll see.  It was a shame, as the hotel is such a favorite place.  And, it is not like we get to go there often…

We found out we had to come home early to make an appointment that was requested last minute.  We got back, and the people blew us off.  Never returning calls, and having us wait all day without knowing.. Argh.

The drive home was rough.  It was very very long… Let me share with you through pictures, what happens when you put a girl in a car with a desert scenery for 5 hours.  WARNING, this girl turned very silly, and had to find any way to amuze herself.  The magazines had been read, the bubble gum chewed, and the books flipped through…

One word. Hairdo's. Once I flipped open the mirror, it was all over. Funny faces and hair tricks were in store…

I had had enough of hearing Mr. Lovee's "learning" things.  Ruins and such were interesting, but "NOooo Mooore!"

Img_6182

Ruins.

Here is a montage of my rapid downhill spiral… It began with the bubble gum search…

So, there is the embarrassing truth.  Mr. Lovee said, can you be any more vain.  And I thought, I am not being vain, I am being silly.  And, sharing it with you, which I don't share me often…  Oh, and, Did you see how the hair got taller and taller?  Hopefully you got a chuckle out of my utter silliness…

I'll tell you what, if Miss Jungle Dream Pagoda  had been with me, she would have been all over my silly hairdo adventure. She is a wonderful girl! I adore her.  She so totally gets me, it's really not even funny.  This is what came my way from her.  I am speechelss, smitten and in love with my new treasures from her. Thank you so much Miss Lisa-Gabrielle!! xxo

I love your new art pieces, the 3D elements are wonderful, more please! Sorry that your trip didn’t go as well as you’d hoped, but Prescott, Arizona does look like a lovely place particularly the cafes & restaurants 🙂 How did you even do that with your hair? lol and I am always fascinated by the way you take pictures, it’s like a third person is trying to document your day step-by-step (…I mean, how did you even take pictures of yourself like that??)
Love what Ms Pagoda sent you, that bracelet is gorgeous!
PS. Book me in for your next road trip.

  8. pam aries says:

uh..that last word in my above post should be girls..I know you don’t have gils….

  9. Marjorie says:

Oh….I just adore “Sometimes” I love the shaped wood and the colours…..all so lovely!
I did a little hair play/ dress up over the weekend…mine was the result of trying to re-create a 60’s look with a ratted puff atop my head and cat’s eye flicks in eyeliner….my husband may think I am a silly girl….but he is a very silly boy! 🙂
I love that kitty picture with the little yellow birdies….so so sweet! : ) Lucky girl, to get such mail! : )

  10. Sarah says:

I saw Ira Glass speak last year. It was SWELL! I’m glad you made it back in one piece. I tried to call you back, but you didn’t answer and I had a vicious migraine, so I went to sleep.

  11. Stephanie says:

Love the new paintings and bits of collage!
Nothing worse than noisy hotel stays, all you want is to relax and sleep, 5:00 am!! The hotel looked beautiful, bet it felt good just to be home in the little loftish space and all.
And I am an NPR junkie! Oh, summer camp…

  12. Tricia says:

That bracelet- wowza! What is that redish purpley stone?
A 5-Hour desert drive- Yikes! Good thing you have alot of hair to play with..hee!
I love all those little photos of you!
Too bad about the appt and the noisy hotel, although it looks so grand and beautiful!

  13. risa says:

i think we should find an old school bus and fill it up with blogging lovelies for the next road trip!! maybe we can even paint the bus first.

  14. Oh that first painting! Why are you torturing me this way?
And your hairdo is really most becoming. You are the world’s most beautiful Miss Bubblegum.

  15. Cre8Tiva says:

oh my friend…i had the same kind of trip yesterday…my hair was bugging me…my shirt was bugging me…together they both about drove me nutty…i had rubber bandy things on it…clips on it…clips and rubber bands on it…i had it down…i had it twisted up held in place by the headrest…i had it slung over one shoulder, then the other… when we stopped for gas and i got a peek at myself in the mirror i doubled over in laughter…i was so tickled i know the gas store people thought i was drunk…not drunk just wanting free of the boundaries of the car…blessings, rebecca

  16. Cre8Tiva says:

speaking of silly…i thought your first painting was on pink flip flops…r
ps – off to paint on flip flops…

  17. Paris Parfait says:

Sorry you had the horrible freeway experience – hopefully redeemed with the fun you had otherwise and all the yummy food. That hotel looks wonderful – too bad about the noisy jerks. You are funny with your “big hair.” And your paintings are lovely, naturellement! xo

  18. carolyn says:

So now you know why I always do the driving!

  19. sulu-design says:

Prescott looks fun… if only there wasn’t an obstacle course bewteen you and it! Fabulous package you got there. And I listened to that same “This American Life” this weekend. Yeah, Ira rocks.

  20. sadira says:

Rats…I was amazed to see the pictures of Prescott up…then so sad when I read that you didn’t have a chance to stop by. Of course,in searching my memory I don’t remember seeing you this weekend, so it makes sense. The weird thing was, I was actually at the shop on Saturday working…and I usually am not. But, I did sneak away a little earlier than normal to get on my own little road trip, so I would have felt incredibly guilty if you would have shown up, and I was closed. But, hopefully we’ll all get together soon! I’m sorry about the loudness in the hotel, I’ve never actually stayed there…but their fresh squeezed OJ is wonderful, no?

  21. Meg says:

I sooo adore your adventures… and, newly discovered, your hair!! xo

  22. Well yes ,ofcourse we would play beauty shop on road trips! I really adore the new girls with the real life skirts on! I think youand I may be on the same page where travel is concerned. I am happy you like your goodies,I have more for you too.

  23. eb says:

love the hair – AND especially “declaring my love in the rain” – really love this – so so sorry about that road trip – I know what you mean – I have a terrible time sitting in a car for a long road trip – now virtual travel…
I am sending you kisses dear Vanessa – and my little prize is growing – found some special treats just – for you – very soon – very soon
    xox – eb.

  24. freelisa says:

I love a good road trip! You are just like me- the trip is noted by the food involved. Yes!
Sounds like you had a few hiccups along the way- but I like how you made the best of it all. xxo

  25. Anastasia says:

You mademoiselle are too cute with your high top bun – it looks sweet!! i do that with my hair too but I have a curly mop!
ohhh the food sounds good – eating and more eating is the best part of going away to new towns!
beautiful bracelet and what a cool Jesus statue too…lovely lovely!

  26. tiffany says:

That bracelet, not that I know you soooo well, but it just seems like totally you. Love it! Sorry your trip was kinda bummery… it makes it nice to come home though. I love some parts of my house and garden so much… I always think… why would I want to leave my bright colors of happiness and go and stay in a brown hotel room. But, I guess you have to do that every once in awhile just so that you can say that you did. Sometimes I seriously travel just so that I can tell people that I left the house, but even though it fun to go away for a day or two.. I miss my cloud-pouf bed and all my paints… You know what I mean. Right?!?! 🙂

  27. 6 hours driving through the desert!?! Horrors…and I don’t have long hair to play with. You’re a saint, I tell ya. teehee

  28. cheeky says:

    Always loving your creations.
I love how you capture all of the spots you visit.
You are good with the hair; think I’ll come round and have you give mine a whirl! 🙂
The bracelet is divine, big and chunky – I like; and the Mary statue? Might you be Catholic?
Traffic, argh! Good stuff, This American Life.

  29. Rachelle says:

What a fun post! The art is fantastic, the trip looked amazing and I’m so into your ways to stay entertained on the road! And the goodies are fab! I would totally steal them away if I could! =)

  30. michelle says:

Glad you are back, you remind me so much of my mother in the car,we always tease that one of these times my parents are going to show up somewhere and my dad will have finally snapped and she will be riding in the trunk, hasn’t happened yet but I am just waiting. You might want to be careful, you are little enough it could happen to you! Love the art and the hairdos, guy just don’t get hair-play!

  31. Hi sweet gurl! You have been up to such wonderfulness!!! Love the new painting and the hairdoos are fun. I’m at the point of wanting to chop all mine off – hide the scissors!

  32. Wende says:

Oh, see… this is confession time… because it’s voices that I find sexy. So, yeah, digging some Ira! (and Ira Flatow from Science Friday). S i g h.
As for your hair, darling you’re rocking some Amy Winhouse do! Good for you. 😀

  33. Cathy says:

Good to have found your blog! thanks for your comment over at my site. I visited AZ in the early 90s (from the UK) and have good memories. Looking forward to reading more and seeing more of your fab art.

  34. rochambeau says:

    Welcome home.
    Like your art!

  35. Sonya says:

I am loving the mixed media – painting with wood and cloth. Wowee zowee! And yes I adore Ira Glass and find your hair play very endearing. What’s a girl to do after all?

  36. Kristen says:

That bracelet is gorgeous. Can I have it?

  37. I love the school bus idea–we could have it just circle the continent with crafty bloggers getting on and off on a whim. Instead of “Further” we’d paint “Crafter” on the front and have an endless party.
Love your hair and trip notes and the bracelet is awesome. ~A 🙂
