A Happy Halloween Indeed!

The sun began to set, on that special magical night…

Happy Halloween Scarecrow 3

Everyone took their places, dressed in their haunted best.  Anxious for squeals of young tender voices…

Happy Halloween Scarecrow 2

Friends arrived for barbecue and caramel apples.  There was pumpkin pie and lemon tart.  Yummy salad with strawberries and other scrumptious morsels along with fresh delicious bread brought by a guest.

The chiminea roared with a warm fire, as very cool air descended upon the day that had been rather warm.

The greeter was so proud, happy to have such a task for this splendid spooky night.  He stood tall, and smiled as big as he could.

Happy Halloween Scarecrow 4

He felt handsome and confident with his fresh pumpkin brain…

Happy Halloween Scarecrow 6

Dressed in his hand-me-down best, he cleared his throat, practicing what he would say to little children, as they tried to run away…

Happy Halloween Scarecrow 5

In the garden the adults munched and laughed and told tales of all sorts of things.  They laughed quite heartily in fact, and howled with delight.  Mister Scarecrow looked on in hopes of having his own fun, but there was not a child in sight down the sleepy little street…

Happy Halloween Scarecrow 7

Oh, how he longed to give one of them a fright.

Night set upon him, as he and his brother told jokes.  Meanwhile, the adults played in the gypsy wagon and in the witches cottage.

Time ticked on, and soon the guests had been playing for hours, and it was time to go home…

Happy Halloween Scarecrow 1

It was clear, it would be the 10th year, that not one trick or treater had stopped by, for Mister Pumpkin-head Scarecrow to spook and make cry.

So, he has decided to keep waiting, out there under the full moon.

While showered and flannel pajama laden adults, get ready for part two of their halloween evening.

Scary movies at midnight.

So we say, Good Luck Mister Scarecrow 😉

For us big kids, it has been a delightful Halloween night, and our guests were a sheer delight.  But I completely forgot to take photos.  Oh well…

October is coming to a rapid close.

I think it is safe to say, it has gone by in the bat of an eye, but left magic dust floating for us to spy 😉

I hope you had a lovely Halloweeeeeeeeeeen!  Cheers to a great spoooooky season, and now, on to November we go!

🖤,V

ps: I can't wait to hear how your evening went.  Were there spoooky yummy morsels of overflowing trick or treat bags and glittered faces???

  1. Krista Komis says:

Happy Halloween! I simply cannot believe that tomorrow (well actually today since it’s past midnight) is November! Hope you had a wonderfully fun & safe one!

  2. Joanne Archer says:

He looks brilliant, but what a shame the children didn’t see him! Ungrateful little devils! lol
A friend of mine opens his garden for the night and spends 3 days putting together a whole haunted, creepy tableau that the kids have to walk through. It includes, a graveyard with full sized headstones, mummies and skeletons. Animatronics, a witches coven in the barn who stirs her cauldron. Then he and his wife give out mulled wine and hot dogs. This is not just for friends, it’s also for strangers who drop by. They are such generous people. I shall post some photos on my blog later.

  3. Kathy says:

Even if you forgot the photos I loved your Jack Pumpkin-head and his story. This was charming as always, Vanessa.
The scariest costume I saw was a 10 year old boy dressed up as an IRS agent! It was great!! Still has me laughing.
Happy November – Kathy in Chicago

  4. Sylvia says:

It sounds like your halloween party was great fun, that scarecrow sure looks creepier at night….
    Feliz Dia De Los Muertos…

  5. Jen says:

Love that scarecrow especially with the lit pumpkin!

  6. Maggi says:

What a delightful scarecrow! Halloween was very quiet around here this year, but now…
November is HERE! Time for Thanksgiving preparations…woo hoo! lol
    Happy November!

  7. I buy less and less candy every year ~ we had maybe a dozen kids come by to trick or treat. I guess they’ve all grown up {like my own kids} in my neighborhood.

  8. YSLGuy says:

    Great scarecrow. Happy Halloween

  9. Alix says:

    Boo!
And a very Happy Halloween to you too, Darling Vanessa!

  10. Hello Vanessa, your party sounds so enchanting… if I lived close by, I would be the first one to trick~or~treat at your magical place! Bisous… Julie Marie

  11. Suzanne says:

    Hi Vanessa,
Your scarecrow is wonderful! Hope you had fun…we did. It was misty and rainiy and spooky ~ perfect weather for Halloween. Stop on over if you want to crash my party…even though it’s almost over.
    Ciao,
    Suzanne

  12. Cindi aka oldblackcatboo says:

I decorated my yard with ghosts including a BIG one with a pumpkin head. I strung the trees with orange lights and handmade fabric ghosts and tried my best to make my front porch “magical”. A few little “spiderman” and a couple of “princess”s and one adorable “fairy” came to trick-or-treat but they were soon followed up by carloads and VANS full of kids carrying pillowcases and wearing “hoodies”. It kinda bums me out when kids don’t even make an effort to have any sort of costume! ah well… Soon after I turned the porch light off (I did notice that several neighbors had never turned theirs on!)and drove to my sisters home where she was having a FANTASTIC feast that included “hard apple cider ale”
And “cosmos” and everyone was dressed in costume! THAT put me back in the Halloween Spirit!
Love your scarecrow! Sorry he had no small ones to scare!

  13. Christy says:

Happy Halloween Vanessa! Your blog is always magical Halloween night or not!

  14. Theresa says:

Seems like you enjoyed a lovely party! The food sounded divine. We only had three trick or treaters last night, for which we were greatly disappointed. We decorated the house (some photos on my blog), and I knit and felted a lovely witch hat -which I wore with pride and also some gorgeous ruby slippers (which made my poor feet ache after about 3 hours). At our local mall, they hosted a safe trick or treat – where I handed out candy to the most delightful young costumed folk. I also baked up some yummy chocolate-chocolate chip cupcakes with orange colored (and flavored) frosting, which I adorned with your CUTE cupcake picks! I will post photos soon on my flickr. 😉 Happy belated Halloween!!! Sincerely, Theresa

  15. Barbara Bowen says:

Living in the country has it’s disadvantages as we had no trick or treaters either. But I enjoy decorating for it just the same. We did get to see the 3 granddaughters…2 in costume and 14 year old (she has Halloween birthday) seeming too old for it anymore. But love your scarecrow!!! Hugs bunches!!! Barb

  16. Deborah says:

Oh my magical Muse, that is the most fantastical scarecrow I have EVER seen! Definitely The Best Dressed!!! LoVe the branches for his arms…only you would think of that. He is one handsome guy. Alice had two Halloween evenings…one in a corn maze dressed as a police officer and last night she was a sailor…we all know that she has the mouth to pull that one off! EEKS! **blows kisses** Deb

  17. What an enchanting evening Ms. V. Big hugs to Mr. Scarecrow…such a bummmer, no kids to scare 😉 I stayed in nursing this yucky stuff (I’ve never been sick this long, ugh). And I handed out candy which was fun! Happy Halloween and Nov. 1st my dear.
    Jamie 🙂

  18. I’m with Marie… if I lived near you I think you may be hard pressed getting rid of me! I love Halloween Parties and scary movies! I live in the country too, and like Barbara said… it makes for no trick or treaters. I’ve always said that Halloween is for the adults! (since I became an adult, anyway) haha love your creative posts. -Jaime

  19. Oh Vanessa, your evening sounds perfect. We posted pics of our Halloween bash, but it was nothing as grand as your’s sounded. I’m so glad you had a fun evening! Yes, on to November, where more delights await! Twyla

  20. DeeDee Roe says:

Love your scarecrow. He looks so happy. 🙂 My daughter is almost 4, and found the whole day magical. She was amazed that people were giving away candy so freely, and she eagerly showed off her handmade mermaid tail to all and sundry.

  21. vivian says:

I imagine a halloween at your house would be great fun!
poor mister pumpkin scarecrow… maybe one day a little girl and her dog will skip by take him on an incredible journey with them!
    happy sunday!

  22. Hi Vanessa, we had a great Halloween thanks, stop by and take a look. Love your scarecrow although i have to say he kinda reminded me of the Scarecrow i’ve just watched in ‘Supernatural’ found in the orchard he was constantly looking for sacrifices to keep the town rich in crops etc. This one didn’t frighten me quite so much so i read on lol.
    Here’s to November 🙂

  23. kim says:

we went to a barn dance and it was F-U-N!

  24. dajon says:

  26. Mo'a says:

Happy belated Halloween. We had about 10 little children come for trick or treat…the oldes being five…he took handfulls of candy the greedy little tike…which was good since my girth is getting bigger since we bought the candy way to soon and had to replace it once…and I am on Predizone which makes you hungry and fat.
I love your lonely scarecrow man…he is a good dresser.
I have missed you…but I am well on my way to recovery 🙂 So I will soon be commenting regularly again.

  27. kayellen says:

Your house is treat or treat heaven!!!If they only knew??!!!
Hope you had a wonderful time..
We ran out of candy about 8:30 last night…they just coming!!!
    We had fun;-)
    It’s Nov. 1st!!Happy Fall…

    kayellen

  28. Rhonda Roo says:

Uhoh, Veevala, perhaps you didn’t realize it, and i think its time to tell you: not everyone can see you!
We here in Bloglandia, we are all sprites who believe in magic!
And the kids today…well, of course most of them still do believe-but if their parents have up that force shield against tomfoolery and nonsense (also known as believing and dreaming) well, theres not much we can do about that….
Or, maybe you just live in the country like I do, and the kids in the near proximity of your neighborhood go to the mall or something.
    HEE
Happy Halloween-and Day of the Dead!

  29. Kandes Lee says:

    I love the scarecrow …
We went to a Dia de los Muertos festival by day and by night we went to a family gathering. My twin nieces were darling in their little costumes. The scariest part of the night was when thee babies were sleeping, the lights were off and all the adults were mid-movie. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something on the play pen I was sitting next to. It was creeping towards me and about 6 inches from my head … Seems a scorpion decided to invade our Halloween party. We all had the creepy crawlies for the rest of the night. Yikes! Do you get many of those where you are?

  30. Torie Jayne says:

    Happy Halloween! Great scarecrow!

  31. Shell says:

I’m actually sorry Mr. Scarecrow didn’t have anyone to scare. Hopefully, next year.
I had a delightful night. I had lunch with one of my closest friends. Then I spent the night at a Halloween party reading cards, eating chocolate and raking in a lot of gold coins to go into my treasure chest.

  32. Cassandra says:

I so love Halloween. We hosted a Halloween dinner this year and I had SO SO MUCH fun decorating (photos over on my blog.) I’m thinking a new tradition is in order…

  33. Marlene says:

Mizz V…I think Mr. Scarecrow is one handsome kind of guy…maybe next Halloween he’ll meet a Mrs. Scarecrow…so that one he won’t be lonely and two well there’ll be just two…two is better than one…I had a warm magical wonderful evening watching all the ghouls & ghosts & goblins…have a howling good night by the moonlight! Sweet dreams! Peace 2 U Marlene

  34. Dear Vanessa,
Happy Belated Halloween to you! What a fun post! I visited Arizona for the first time this spring and just love seeing your Mr. Pumpkin in with all the cactus!!!
My friend LuLu and I had a joint blog party celebrating the day (please come visit us if you are able!).
    Wishing you a happy November!
    Betty

  35. SueAnn says:

I know how Mr. Pumpkin felt! Nary a goblin graced our door this Halloween either! So sad! But we made the best of it and watched movies as well. Went to a delightful party the night before. So we closed out October with a flourish!
    Hugging you
    SueAnn
Pics on my blog of the party!

  36. shari says:

i LOVE your scarycrow, vanessa! alas, we have no lovely monsters visiting at our door, either. so all of the scary/lovely decorations are for ME/MYSELF/I! i have decided my orange lights look like thanksgiving lights and so will continue to shine throughout november as well. love visiting you…you are a TON of inspiration and oodles of smiles and laughs. thank you dearly.
