Wonderland Petal Dreams…

I often think of where the tale of Alice was invented…

Wonderland dreams 7

I think Lewis spent a lot of time in the garden dreaming the whole thing up.

Strolling through the flowers.

Watching the birds and bunnies and toads.

Mushrooms and cats.

Somehow in that magical place where things grow, so did his imagination.

I believe this to be true because I can feel how the garden can do that to you.

Wonderland dreams 1

Take you into fairy tale lands.

Where pink petals and twisting tree branches look upon teal glowing hummingbirds…

Feeding you tales beyond your wildest imaginations.

Wonderland dreams 2

I feel that way in my garden.

Where time stands still.

Where nothing exists beyond the gates.

Wonderland dreams 4

Although, I now know the importance of venturing out.

Because it is when you change your entire scenery, that you can come back to yourself truly and fully again.

Where the garden tells you new stories and you have the ability to listen again.

Wonderland dreams 3

Where the roses that unfurl here, often take my breath away.

The petals have candy colored secrets.

Wonderland dreams 8

Sherbet and lilac punch whisperings.

Wonderland dreams 9

The likes of which only a teapot could keep.

Or perhaps it's a chocolate pot.

Wonderland dreams 5

Where ridiculous fancy things meet rustic wooden things.

Wonderland dreams 10

And somehow, they get on just wonderfully.

Wonderland dreams 6

That's where I'll be.

I wish you dreams and goodness.

A lovely weekend and a chance to refuel and reflect.

As my dad would say, a chance to take your thinking cap off and rest.

The rains brought happy petals and now the watering hose helps them along through a heat wave.

Fresh leaves are singed by the sun, but another storm teases right this very minute.

Clouds crash as I type and the sky turns into a sepia blue swirl.

Wild desert monsoons are truly spectacular.

The dogs and I are on our way out the door to see what we can see.

Lots of love from me!

Take good care of yourself out there in your neck of the woods.

Love, Vanessa

ps:  If you need some art filled films for the weekend, I loved one I saw last year (although heartbreaking too) called Maudie, about folk artist Maud Lewis, see trailer here. Have you seen it?  (the real Maud Lewis) I think I saw it via Amazon.

And I just saw (Netflix), Packed in a trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Lake Wilkinson, click here for trailer.

I'm currently painting flowers on my own wall just for fun.

Let's see how that goes 🙂

That's how I first ever started painting when I was 11.

My parents let me paint my bedroom walls with vines and flowers.

They also let me paint all my furniture with all sorts of designs.

Then they bought me huge canvases to paint on as well.

That was great of them <3

And great fun for me!

Such lovely roses, as always! Your colors are so uplifting! I’m burrowing in the dirt like a Mole Person today 😊, rebuilding my stone paths. Such hard work but oh, the joy when they are done and I have my morning coffee/afternoon tea perennial garden all the way back, with my tiny rustic brick patio and birdbath. I couldn’t live without gardens to sit or walk in each morning. Please put up pictures when you are done painting your walls. So pretty! ❤️

I do so love your gardening flair. The garden in my new house is very woodsy, a hideaway for fairies, elves, and trolls. Over the weekend I excavated an old brick terrace under 3 to 5 inches of dirt and debris. I felt like an archeologist with my little broom and hand trowel. Like you, I love colorful flowers, but don’t know how to incorporate them into this woodsy setting???????

Should i tell you what i know? You are not too far off from the truth. Alice was Alice Lidell, a real live little girl, who had three sisters, that he wrote the story for, but he really dreamed it up on a summer day, on the lake, near the gardens, post picnic with Alice’s family! And little Alice asked him to tell her a story and he did, and then wrote it down for her later.
    And then:scandal!
I’m writing a story about the rest of the story, if you want to read it I’ll send it when I’m through. 🙂
