It’s been a wonderful autumn so far in the Arizona high desert.
I bring some inside…
Pumpkins, dahlias, cosmos, roses, zinnias and basil are abundant.
Soo many giant dahlias.
And such a tall long stem red rose, wowie!
Pewter and lacy things turn up on drizzly autumn days.
I packaged jewel orders and sent them far away.
Then I pulled weeds in the rain.
Beautiful rain like I have rarely experienced.
A delicate drizzle.
All day long, softest of rain.
Ever so soft.
Turning everything quite storybook like.
Making everything glisten and sparkle in the most mesmerizing of ways.
Occasional dappled sunlight through thick clouds.
I was entranced by it.
Working under tender droplets.
Checking on most hugest of huge fairy tale pumpkins.
Storms knocked over my little garden entry arbor, so now it looks a little tattered and leaning.
Goes perfect with the aging pumpkin leaves.
Yet sooo many new babies turn up.
I hope they make it in time.
The vegetable garden is so full.
Loving the rain madly.
In the far northwest corner of the vegetable garden cosmos grow 7-8 feet tall or more.
Finally blooming.
Fuchsia ones too.
All self seeded.
I collect a few little pumpkins and basil.
Checking on two others.
The large green one has grown that size in 2 weeks.
Astoundingly fast growth.
I think everyone knows it’s almost time.
Giant zinnias and pumpkins alike.
So many pomegranates burst open from too much rain.
And I stroll around, coolest air, softest droplets, going round and round our little path.
Eating pomegranate seeds in the fairy bower.
The kids keep watch.
Getting soaked as well.
All of us sooo enjoying this glorious gift of weather.
Any sign of a car and off they go!
As I take in the garden desperately.
Voraciously.
Because I know the time is near.
Almost time to say good-bye to the remnants of summer.
But not quite yet.
I have been up to all sorts of little projects.
My studio is a wreck.
What have you been up to???
Love, V

Such lovely images! and I too want to hang on to summer as much as possible.
Although I love the fall, in fact I cooked a turnip last night! The smell is aromatherapy to me!!!!
I love your garden- in fact am quite jealous of it. Can’t wait to have my own…we are so busy we’ve planted nothing. Nothing. It’s sad.
I want everything you have! LOL ALL OF IT!! Those tall, wispy cosmos are so amazing. Love them.
Happy weekend shugs! xo G
Your gardens still look so lovely! Mine is still hanging in there. There’s a freeze warning for areas near here but not quite by me. The temperature may get back up to 70 soon! But only for a day. It’s nice though. I just keep thinking that soon these temperatures will seem like a heatwave. :0)
I have to finish decorating outside. My neighbor just chopped down his corn stalks & doesn’t want them. He let me raid his pile! You can’t beat free! Now I have to decorate my porches with them.
I can’t wait to get my lovely jewels!!!
I have to order more labels too. I have them all but I think I want to make up some jars for gifts. I couldn’t possibly part with any of mine! They’re MINE, MINE, MINE! (That would be the only child in me coming out.)
Gilly, just throw seeds out around your garden when the cold late November
rain begins, and you ill have an amazing garden in spring/summer, I
promise!! You can also throw basil and zinnias seeds… theyll know what
to do when it is time!! xoxox
Vanessa:
The rain sounds lovely. I can close my eyes and smell the desert rain. We haven’t had a drop in forever and a day. It is hot and dry here. Earthquake weather and forest fire weather. Your lovely photos makes me crave the smell of rain.
It’s been so hot, we are just now putting up our Halloween decorations. No one has been in the spirit of the season with this unusually hot autumn.
Thank you for sharing your world.

Your garden is enchanting and magical. Such beautiful colors. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.
Full of magic as always! I thought your dog was a fox in that jumping picture, wwith that big jump and that bushy tail!
Ah…. the wonders of nature. It is hard to say good bye to summer but, just around the corner she has something else in mind for us. I just hope that this winter is a mild one. So very majestic Miles stands guard.
We just got back from a trip to northern Arizona-back to Prescott where I used to live and then made the cirquit up to the Grand Canyon and then down Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona-up Mingus mountain to Jerome and back to Prescott. Arizona is by far the most beautiful state-I love the colors and because of the rain it was much greener than usual. We have some friends in Chino Valley and she had cosmos as tall as yours–I’ve never seen them grow so tall. I love seeing all your photos.
Hope all is well. I have not been blogging in a while! Beautiful as always!
I cannot imagine how delicious a fresh pomegranate must be! I love them but obviously here they have been on a plane before I eat them. They are lovely added to cous-cous with Moroccan type dishes.
Hello magical greens and florals. Not to mention squashes and pumpkins galore! Oh you are truly relishing the beautiful harvest season that is upon us, and have the blessings of such a lush and fertile garden. Love this time of year!
Our climates must be similar. We live in the mountains above Palm Springs. My garden looks similar to yours. So many zinnias and cosmos, too. May I write you now and then for tree ideas?
Patti, of course!! 😉
My house is a wreck from all of the Halloween decorating and projects galore, but I’ll get it under control in a day or two. Spooky chaos?
Your garden is so pretty. Things are blooming here but nothing like that. Mother Nature can’t make up her mind. Weather wise, we’ve had weird weather here: 90 degree days and loads of sun, then a day of rain and clouds, now we’re having a dry front roll in and we might get a low temp of 80 degrees. Ah, Florida. Crazy. Hahaha.
Vanessa, I am tickled and in love with seeing that statuesque pic of Miles in ur lovely gardens. Ahhh…. so Happy to enjoy these cooler temps outside!:)
Ahhhhh… I love LOVE your garden pics… I’ll never tire of looking at them. ^_^
My “studio” (aka, my living room…) is also somewhat of a wreck. =D
I’ve started going to the pottery studio in downtown Bellingham and am learning how to throw clay on a wheel. I am madly, madly in love… it makes me so happy and I feel so relaxed when I’m working on the wheel! It’s just blissful beyond words. I’ll be going back this coming week to glaze the bowls I made this past week.
I’ve also been art journaling and painting and writing… Autumn always seems to bring on a burst of creativity for me. ^_^
Also prepping for various Halloween parties in blogland… I can’t wait! See you soon!
XOXO
How very green and lovely. Prancing pups, pomegranates and pumpkins so perfect.
The cosmos dreamy and tall. How wonderfous to have such rains in fall. We are steaming here in Cali.
Red moons and christmas cactus’s blooming in autumn to hummingbirds tunes swooning swoon.

throwing on the wheel is one of my most favorite things on the
planet!!! HOOORAY!! xoxo
Oh my, you have pomegranates!! I love to drizzle these seeds over the salad, it gives it a fresh twist.
Your photos has a very romantic feel, especially the first one.
that first image is amazingly beautiful — well they all are, but that first one – well is makes me really smile.
Such lovely pictures – especially the third one down, filled with green and raindrops and sunshine…
And I cannot even imagine growing pomegranates in your own backyard! That is just amazing to me, along with your 7 foot tall Cosmos – oh my!
Continuing to put up Hallowe’en decorations here (“More lights!”), and getting ready for next weekend, when a group of family and friends will go to a nearby big annual Church Tag Sale – woohoo, treasures galore! In years past I have come home with antique linens, a typewriter, chipped mis-matched china, Tupperware, power tools – you name, it can be found there. We go every year, then have pizza afterwards and compare finds – so excited!
Your gardens are just breathtaking…Thanks for sharing them!
Catching up after Ghoultide Gathering weekend here, and looking forward to your Halloween Party (commented on that post, albeit VERY late!)…Must think of a giveaway or something!

I think it’s lovely! Why won’t my pumpkins grow???? They flower and flower and no pumpkins. Send some pumpkin fairy dust my way, V.
