Wintery & Random Life Chatter

It's beginning to feel a bit wintery around here.

Really cold nights and mornings.

Brrrrrr.

Not snow cold, but cold for us.

Cold enough to make it feel more holiday like.

Wintery 1

I am having so much fun fluttering about decorating.

I have so many elves and paintings in the works, and time keeps slipping.

So, I am succumbing to time, and just breathing and going with the flow.

Plus, I got really sick for 4 days.

Probably all the junk I ate.

Okay, for sure, all the junk I ate.

So now, I am just going to take a deep breath, and move with the flow of days.

Instead of with self pressure.

I am so good at self pressure.

Wintery 3

Winter Wonderlands beckon.

As daily morning tasks are underway.

Wintery 2

Don't you love the norms of your life?

Our little family, 2 humans 2 furs, has so many norms.

Rituals.

Over the last few days that I wasn't feeling 100%, I have extra loved our days.

I mean, not the not feeling well, but the reminder of the ebb and flow of our lives.

Matty and I have secrets.

Miles likes his photo being taken, Matty, not so much.

But Matty is my secret sleeping partner every so often.

He tucks into my right side, and he doesn't budge.

If Miles hears the commotion (he is usually snoring on his back on the couch), he ends up on the left side of me.

Wintery 31

But mostly, Matty sneaks in to be with me, and he and I just have snuggle time alone.

But somehow, in the morning, he is in the middle of the bed, and I am on the left side.

I call the left side of my bed, the weird side.

Since I like sleeping on the right side.

Wintery 32

And every morning, Matty attacks me with love.

As though he has never seen me.

And, if he didn't sleep with me, and he is seeing me for the first time in the morning, he goes out of his mind.

Jumping and yelping and hugging and kissing me.

I always have to prepare for the morning attack if I have not seen him all night, and he happens to be outside already when I wake up.

Then Mister Lovee asks, are you ready, as he opens the front door, and I get totally attacked with love.

This is every single day.

I am so happy to be so loved by my little Matty.

These little things that are constant.

The loves that are a part of our lives in such a way.

Precious moments.

Totally priceless, seriously.

Miles always gets the paper in the morning.

No matter how heavy.

He carries huge logs around too, so I think his jaw is really strong.

In tug of war games, he always wins.

He barrels off the porch, heads to the front gate, skids in front of the newspaper…

Picks it up, tosses it in the air a couple times and catches it.

Then heads into the house for his delivery.

If Mister Lovee is not at the door, he runs inside and takes it straight to Mister in bed.

Then, he gets a treat.

Usually, he won't give you the paper, if you don't exchange him for a treat.

He'll just sit with the paper in his mouth, until the proper exchange is made.

🙂

It's on these cold mornings, that Miles delivering the paper, is a huge luxury.

Wintery 28

These days the sun does not come over the mountains and hit our house until 8:15 a.m.

But once it does, we are all out there for a morning jaunt.

The furs go sniff their regular spots.

Run around, doing their rounds.

Only, this time I decided to follow them.

Miles and Matty love to chase birds that are flying.

I think they think they can catch them.

Miles spots something way in the back of our property…

Wintery 19

What is it??

He stands below and looks up the post…

(he checks the post several times a day)

Wintery 20

Wintery 24

He starts doing his banshee howl, as the hawk just looks at him.

It's quite funny.

A few times a day hawks or owls will stop by.

Hawks early, owls late.

Matty just watches Miles howling and carrying on about the hawk.

Wintery 23

After that fun, they are on to their next things.

I think it is so fun to watch animals do their thing.

The things they notice, little ears listening intensely.

Running about.

Wintery 21

Wintery 25

Matty realizes this is a photo shoot.

And, he goes away.

I zoom in on him sitting in the driveway.

With a look that says, I am not playing if you don't put that thing away 🙂

Wintery 26

He and Miles hear a car, and run to ward it off.

Barking madness.

While I tiptoe around the autmn/winter garden way out back.

I have taken out most of the towering dry sunflowers in the veggie garden.

And saved HUGE sunflower heads full of seeds.

But there are still some out there I left for the birds.

Don't they look like shower heads in the distance?

Wintery 12

The dry pumpkin patch.

I realize there are soo many photos I didn't share this summer.

All the endless tomatillos we had.

I used them in salsa, but they are so tangy alone too.

All wrapped by nature in little paper lanterns, that months later turn into…

Beautiful lace puffs, dry casings, strewn about the garden.

Wintery 15

Marigold seeds everywhere you turn.

Dropped to the earth from dry flowers…

Wintery 14

A rogue fairytale pumpkin, and arugula that keeps on staying green, and giving still.

It self seeds over and over, as new crops pop up.

So yumm.

So green in the early morning today.

Wintery 13

A giant plant keeps growing in the strawberry patch (below).

I can't figure out what it is, except that, I did plant some cabbage seeds in that bed that didn't take.

So I then grew huge cabbages in a different bed.

But I am wondering….

If that is a Frankenstein cabbage seed, turned Jack in the Bean Stalk?

There are actually 2, but this one is the tallest.

The leaves are very much like a thick waxy brussels or cabbage leaf.

So odd.

Wintery 16

My fave fave fave.

Turning strawberry leaves.

Beautiful.

Wintery 18

Green bursts here and there.

Wintery 17

I took out all the dry summer flowers.

2 wheel barrows full.

Wintery 10

It's so exciting to see all the little green tufts.

Plants that self seeded from spring, and will grow a tinge in winter.

Wintery 33

Then flourish in spring 2013.

One rose holds on.

Wintery 11

But one of the best things ever?

When you are freezing cold, and feel crumby…

And your soft handsome boy, crawls on top of you.

Like he did when he was a little baby.

Sprawls his whole body over you…

Wintery 5

Crawls under your neck….

Giant puppy, heavy body warming you up.

And falls asleep.

Wintery 6

Wintery 7

Veering for a sec…

I had a Greek (from Cyprus) boyfriend for a long time, for many years actually, once upon a time.

Right before Lovee.

Anyhow, he had a friend who didn't speak English very well, Andreas.

Andreas had this saying he would use.

For example, if I played the piano for them, when I was done, he would grab my boyfriend and then gesture his hand towards me, and say in his fab heavy accent "This is Love! Huh, here, This! This is Love!"

Or, if I made them a nice dinner, and was serving them, he would grab my boyfriend's shoulder, point to me and then the meal, and say "This, THIS is LOVE!!"  And he would pat my boyfriend on the back.

He did this all the time, whenever I did something that to him, signified love.

It was hilariously sweet.

Anyhow…

To me.

THIS IS LOVE!

Wintery 8

And I always say that out loud, when I am hugging my furs.

In my best Greek accent.

THIS IS LOVE!

So there was a random chatty days wrap up.  Off to lay on the warm porch steps for a couple minutes, and look up at the very blue sky, with hovering wisteria leaves, before I get busy with my day.

Happy Day!!!

Wintery 9

Love, Vanessa

Sparkly heart

ps:  The Magic of Christmas is calling big time, isn't it?

Wintery 4

pss:  Who needs a goat or a sheep with that kind of hopping?

Wintery 22

  1. Miles is ridiculously photogenic.
You should get him an agent.

  2. I should have started when he was a puppy huh?? Darn. We could have
been rich!! Going to dog shows. He could be eating filet mignon as a
    snack, with his own butler.
    Darn!

  3. Norma Conway says:

Hi Vanessa, what a nice start to my day. Inspiring. I can hear your voice with the Greek accent in my head. Well I can only imagine what fabby paintings you are putting your hand to. Thank you for getting my day going for me…*smiles* Norma, x

  4. Maybe you shouldn’t eat so much reindeer poop! Hahahahaha! Oh… but, I am sorry you felt sick. You hate chocolate, so why did you eat the choco-covered raisins?? Silly.
I love LOVE those morning snuggles with the pup. Douglas, has been ultra cuddly now that it’s chilly in the middle of the night and the morning. I was trying to write this morning and he was dead set on sitting in my lap. It was the funniest thing.
Matty is so funny. He likes things the way he likes things. I feel like I identify with him, because we both have that odd OCD type behavior where we need things a certain way or we feel crooked. And there is nothing fun about feeling crooked.

  5. I think it was the Angel farts. I ate ever so many of Angel
    farts.

  6. marjorie says:

Tra la la, what a lovely thing, indeed, to drop in to your beautiful world and read your wonderfully written post today! This is love….THIS! I love that! tee hee! Your anecdotes always delight!! : ) Happy new-week to you! Hope your feeling better! : )

  7. Miss Linda says:

Oh so very much love you have at your house. Oh to cuddle up to two large furry ones would be somethiing…I have two but they weigh only 3 and 5 lbs each. I do a better job of keeping them warm. LOL… It was only 28 degrees here in Michigan last night. Love the photos very much. I really hope you are feeling much better.

  8. Jenn says:

Poor Miss Vanessa, not feeling well and all 🙁 How bad could it be when you have an excuse to snuggle up with Mr. Miles though? Hehe. I bet that would make you feel better. I’m going through some of your free tutorials right now because I am fortunate enough to have free crafting time. YAY! Oh, also, you’ve intrigued me with your telling of creating (elves elves elves!). I’m excited!

  9. bettyann says:

What cute sweet puppies you have…so full of love and joy…have a wonderful week Vanessa…take care

  10. This makes me long for a 40 acre garden so I could wander about. Until then, I live vicariously through your lovely garden posts. Thanks for all the photos and your wonderful expressions that liven my day.
I leave lots of sunflowers for the birds. When it snows, the snow piles up on the nodding heads and I call them snowflowers. So pretty, they are.

  11. Cameron says:

So sweet…..the rituals of our days, become our memories, infuse our very essence with their comfort and familiarity. I loved peeking into a few of yours.
I’m so glad you are feeling better now, but it looks like you were well taken care of 🙂

  12. dena miller says:

Oh my!!! I loved reading this post of yours!!!! I Just LOVE those Fur Babies too!!!! They are so snugly and adorable..Thanks for sharing them and your world with us!!
    Immense Hugs!!!!
    Dena

  13. Jums noteikti ir dažas patīkams viedokli un uzskatus. Jūsu emuārs sniedz svaigu apskatīt subject.Have esat domājuši par ieviešot dažas sociālās Grāmatzīmes pogas, lai šos blogus. Vismaz google.I patiešām novērtējam rakstus par jūsu mājas lapā. Jūs darāt naudas sodu darbu! Thanks daudz.

  14. Oh That last photo of miles is so delightfully cute and funny! I had to look twice, is that real….Wow he can bounce and frolic like a lamb!
    I love him!
    XxxLaurie

  15. “THIS IS LOVE!” ——-> Hahahaha. That made me roar with laughter, imagining it in my head. He has a good point though. ‘;^)
There must’ve been something in the air…the signal to clean out the refuse and prepare the garden for the dormant winter process, because I spent three days trimming trees, clearing out beds, raking leaves/twigs, and more. I need to get a wheel barrow because I was throwing it on a large plastic tarp and carrying it out to the trash bin. It was an insane amount and everything is sore today: hands, fingers, wrists, forearms, back, shoulders, etc. However, it’ll be worth it when things start to bloom again. Your rose bushes always inspire me. I’d love to have a white and red striped variety growing up a trellis or over an arbor. *SIGH* 🙂

  16. Metronyx says:

I always feel so happy after visiting your home in blog space. Well, of course I didn’t feel happy when reading about your terrible allergy attach or loss of your dear house member. The way you love your dogs – it warms my heart. I wish I could make my teenage girls highest wish on earth come through. But I have always been and, the docs says, I will always be hopelessly allergic to all kinds of furry animals. Seeing you writing about these joybringers makes me both happy and sad. To me your life seems like a Fairytale come true. But, I suppose that is what I want to believe ; ) wonderful nonetheless.

  17. Dixie says:

Happy B~day dear, beautiful, sweet,Vanessa ! I just can’t get enough of your joyous world. So much fun…always something new to learn…luv your ” fur babies “…and such a gardener you are…creative juices just ooze…not to mention the smile you bring to my face everytime I visit 🖤

  18. Laura Tieri says:

I enjoyed all the photos, dogs & gardens! It’s funny how slowly the changing over process is in a warm climate.
It’s been so mild here that my iris plants are thinking about coming up again. That isn’t good.
It’s finally getting cold & we had a very slight dusting of snow yesterday.
I think we just set a record of the longest period of no snow here in Chicago. 🙁
I like snow, I guess I should head on up to Minnesota. They sure got blasted!
Well, have a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY today!!! Take it easy & enjoy your day!

  24. Kristy says:

What a lovely post. My dog Buddy was just like Matty a very cranky boy who hated most people and things but he would snuggle in with me so close and go crazy when I came home even if I just went to grab the mail. We recently had to put him down and it is a very sad time but I like see your posts about fur babies, they are such wonderful creatures and touch are hearts in such a big way. thanks for sharing. 🙂
    Merry Christmas,
    Kristy

  25. I love it that you post photos and tell all the sweet things that happen with you and your fur babies…and they both love you in their own sweet special way. I was trying to figure out why Matty doesn’t like the camera. Maybe the ‘winder’ spooks him…dogs have such sensitive ears…I guess your camera has an automatic winder? Just a thought.
The sunflower heads do look like shower heads! How funny!
I adore your Christmas Village with all of the sweet tiny colored houses and glitter snow. I liked the photo with the aerial view.
And it is amazing your baby love fur babies have such a consistent routine on a daily basis. Totally focused! Why can’t humans be that way!!! I guess we would get bored after a while if we did have the same ole routine day after day. Dogs are such faithful friends, loyal all of the time. They can be counted on for sure!
And here I am, posting late for your Birthday!
Hope you had a very lovely day and marvelous evening!
hugs, and fairy sprinkles, with soap bubbles!
    Miss Teresa

  26. Nathalie says:

What fantastic pictures! Your fur babies are so snuggable. I adore your vintage village! Did you make it yourself? Bonne fete from Canada! Hugs,
    Nathalie

  27. i can just imagine those words spoken in a greek accent and how those words would have made you feel. superb!! i cant wait for the time when we (my little family) are ready for our very own puppy to love and to watch grow.
thanks for a post that made me smile.
    xxxrosey

  28. Kimberly says:

    Vanessa:
Things around my neck of the woods have been so crazy busy, I’m just now getting ’round to stopping by your new post.
What a lovely and pleasantly meandering post it is.
Those fur babies are stealing my heart. I’ve been feeling like I’m ready to adopt lately. I think I’m really ready. I’ve been looking through petfinders.com and have even called about a few dogs. Time will tell….
Your family of 4 is a perfect wreath…a circle. I love that, when things just naturally fall into place. That’s the feeling I get when I read your blog. Everything is how it should be in your world. Isn’t that a miracle?
    xoxo

  29. Katarina says:

Pictures of your cute doggies always make me want to get one!

  30. Linda Diane says:

Oh, I just love this post. Full of your love for your pups and your out-of-doors world. I love when my own furboys snuggle with me. It makes me feel so warm and cozy. Sometimes I just meditate on how they feel safe with me and loved as well. They are comfortable enough to close their eyes and go go sleep next to me or partly on me. It’s a wonderful thing to be loved by a furry creature!
Your little Christmas village scenes are so sweet. The colors are gorgeous.
I love how in your outside world, amid all the dry, wintery, crackling plants that there is some green and some color, and oh, love the lace puffs! Do you ever snatch them up and use them in the house in some kind of decorative arrangement?
The Christmas season whooshes by way too fast as it is, and I am sorry you had to be sick in the midst of it! I hope you are back to normal now.
And as always, I leave here feeling inspired and grateful that you share your life with us. “This is love. This! THIS is love!!” : )

  31. Linda Diane says:

Argh! I do proofread my comments, but sometimes something sneaks by. I of course meant to say that my furboys go *TO* sleep next to me, not “go go sleep next to me.” I know you figured that out, but I had to set the record straight myself!

  32. Irina says:

So glad you are better, dear Vanessa…and I hope you had a wonderful Birthday!!!
What a joy to read your beautiful musings, and to see that love of your family…fur and all! 🙂
    Blessed indeed…
    A splendid weekend to you!!!
    Hugs,
    – Irina

  33. Irina says:

Oh, and yes, we did get an AMAZING snowfall here in MN…it was Narnia, truly…magical :)) (Driving…that was not so magical…hee)

  34. Chris says:

Wow. Love these gorgeous photos. Yes, fur love is so amazing.
And I’m going to engage in a hot cocoa ritual with my loves tonight…

  35. Theresa says:

There is nothing like puppy love when you are not feeling well…the warmth of their bodies by your side and their sweet soft fur. That is healing, enough. 🙂 Glad you are feeling better! Loved seeing these little everyday moments…Miles and Matty are such handsome boys. 🙂
