Winter’s Petals

Lovely January.

A time for books and candles and…

Floral home 1

Admiring the collected flowers of last summer that have dried beautifully, into a sort of paper art.

Zinnias, hydrangeas, roses, dahlias -

Gathered and admired, especially at this time of the year.

The winter light streams through the conservatory windows imparting a cool haze that only winter light can.

It is a new year, but to me it simply feels like a continuation of my days, which I find a comfort in.

Floral home 4

A file of collected seeds waits patiently for the warmer soil of April and March.

But with no rush, because this winter time is a beautiful time to enjoy.

Floral home 6

The fireplace, old book pages.

Curled, furled petals.

Floral home 5

The shades darkening as they dry.

A little nook to be creative in, to be in the moment in.

Floral home 9

Collecting thoughts and hopes and dreams.

As long as a person is alive it is never too late to dream.

To plan and carve out a little pathway to the wishes of your heart.

It's amazing how doing epic things lies in the most tiny happenings.

We think that to create something epic we need to be younger, stronger – have more energy.

I've learned this is not the case.

For example…

Planting a few seeds in a small garden space can lead to the most epic happenings.

A pot of zinnias will bring mini yellow belly finches, butterflies, bees…

A world of happenings will flutter in one pot alone.

So, when it feels like doing amazing epic things takes more time and energy that you can conjure up…

Remember, it only takes a handful of seeds to create something marvelous and magical.

To contribute to the lives of winged creatures.

It only takes a minute to clip a few flowers to save for colder days.

It only takes a second to put down your phone and open a book.

It only takes one good thought to better your day.

Floral home 12

Flowers in my garden, a heart full of inspiration from a book.

Telling myself that it's okay to feel happy and sad all in a day.

These are epic things.

Floral home 10

Creating a little space, no matter how big or small, a corner nook –

Filled with the whims of your heart to inspire you daily.

Well, that for me is one of the best things ever.

Old things, dry petals, ribbons, books.

They make my life feel happy, like a child in a playroom.

Funny how some silly whims of the heart can make us feel so happy.

I think it's because it forces us to take some time to center ourselves, be in the moment.

And that is one of the most valuable things we have and need.

A walk in the park, a coffee in a coffee shop.

Listening to the birds.

All the little things – those are really the big things.

Those are the things I love the most.

All the little things.

Happy New Year <3

Here's to all the little things that create an epic life.

One little thing at a time.

Love, V

Thank you for sharing your lovely moment in time relishing lovely moments in time! Ive just come in from the outside. It’s been raining for the last twelve hours and before that it was windy, so there are lots of little tree treasures – Spanish moss, old twigs, bits of leafy greens, scattered on the ground, contrasting dark against the light. I’d stood mesmerized by a tree, naked of leaves, gently holding droplets of rain on its branches, like thousands of tiny dazzling diamonds, thinking about how universe offers drama and romance and peace and joy. And then I noticed my feet were wet and my new white slippers were covered in mud. Haha! Universe is a jokester too :-). Go on with your lovely meandering thoughts, Veevala, and I will send you whirly twirly wishes of thousand of minutes of seeing all of the good there is in the world. Much love from Furry Oaks on this sweet Sunday!! Xoxoviixooxo

I’m going to remember this post. I resolve to have lots of tiny, epic moments this year. Right now I’m enjoying the little pleasure of feeding the birds and pesky squirrels as we hunker down in the ice and snow. We have a very steep driveway so we’ve been ice-bound all day. Cozy.
    Thanks for your never-ending inspiration.

Sigh…Miss V…you live in Wonderland! The beautiful colors, the dried flowers…all so very lovely! I am so happy you are blogging again. I kind of let my blog ‘go’. I am into doing acrylic pouring and it is gob-smacking fantastic! I hope to post photos at some point on my blog.
Lovely to see Miles…He is such a dear, dear doggie soul.
Life has been busy for me, but blogland is a respite for adventure and bliss!
