Who is She?

Some where in my self lives this little girl.  She does not know she is no longer 5 years old.  She makes her appearance at the drop of a hat.  Today she decided to come out and play.  She wants to stay in bed at the loftish space and read books and look at pretty pictures.  She wants to play like she is still very sick. When really, her sickness is as strong as a cup of tea made with a used tea bag.

Although her bed at home is quite exquisite, there is something about her lovely space in the country…The way the breeze makes the curtains flow…Dreamy whispers of a light wind….While many a bird sounds trickle in…

Oh no, her little plot to be tucked away and now enjoy the sick tale has been discovered.  Books piled high, there is a spy…Her makeupless face and red raw nose want nothing of a camera…

Finally the lion in my book decides to protect me.  Leave the girl alone.  She can not go out today.  She has soooo much reading to do, for, umm, for, that, ummmm, thing she has to do…Ya…..Ya that thing….RRrrrroar…

Sometimes a girl just needs to have a little time to herself. Trust me , the stressful calls today are still a-plenty via telephone.  If only the real world job stuff could all get fixed…..If only…Oh, wait, what is that?  The deal might happen after all??? Oh thank you GOD!!

Now I have to share another thought, on the same tangent as yesterday.  About collecting art.  It has to do with the over the moon excitement about the multitude of women artists.  We are so lucky to be in a movement where women's art is sought after and women are finally seen as they are, interesting and intelligent…It is so fulfilling! And, I know things are not  perrfect, but it is good.

One day I will share my art collection at home…As there are many a story to tell.  But for now,You must peek here:

The astounding work of Laurie Lipton

I must leave you with one of my favorite poem's.  I have my original Shel Silverstein books from childhood.  Don't I fit right into this today….Only, it's not Saturday…Oh, and I adore the Shel Silverstein Website, it is sooo much fun!

SICK by Shel Silverstein

"I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay,
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash, and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox
And there's one more–that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut, my eyes are blue–
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke–
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb,
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is–what?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is—Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play!"

I am getting ready for my very exciting Etsy shop update.  To be announced very very soon.

  1. Sarah says:

Well, I hope you feel fully better soon! I know how annoying it is to only be like 20-30% sick, but still just not feel like a real person! I was that way a few weeks ago.
I memorized that poem in high school for some speech class I was in. I love Shel Silverstein!

Fabulous poem for the mood – I’ve had this on memorized since the third grade and reference it often. I was having just one of those days today myself… chest pains almost kept me home from work – but then I realized that they wouldn’t have kept me from having a lovely day at home. So I scooted my booty off to work. I’m glad to hear that you’re on the mend and hope that you feel all better soon!

  5. Anastasia says:

    XoXo Kel

  7. I love you 5 year old Vanessa, you could play with 5 year old jenn, she would be in her bathrobe but wearing a giant feather hat and snuggled in and reading with you.

    miss fanciful…
i know the feeling of how wonderful a duvet and a bed feels…
when u have a baby though u dont get to lay in much anymore…ur bed seems so cosy and comfortable….i wish i could jump straight back in to mine and read books and dream of fairy lands and a paradise away from the norm….there’s nothing better than ur favourite book and tucked up in bed.

now im a mummy i’ll have to do that for my daughter…i might even at a little cup cake on her tray.

  10. Katie says:

I’m glad you are feeling better, and what is that AWESOME book you are holding. Hey, by the way, I agree, sometimes we just need to take the time and take care of ourselves. I have that little girl in me, and I have for a long time tried to deny her, but I don’t find her embarrassing anymore. She is certainly something to be celebrated and encouraged. Love this post.

  11. Mo'a says:

I made a long and a boring atemt at humor/comment here yesteday…and when I pressed post my computer acted up again…this time I called the tech people and announced that I wanted the top of the “food chain” and that I was tired of “bottom feeding”…..well, I may have not used these exact words, but what I said got action…so here I am again.
I am so sorry to hear that you have been under the weather…nature has a way of saying STOP!!! and it sounds like that is what happened.
You are cute even when you are sick…how do you do that?…and you also post, and what great posts they are.
I love seeing what you love to have around you…thank you for showing us that and for the idea for a post…yes, I am going to steal that idea 🙂 So now you are waiting for a curly hair post and what, how and why I have art in my home…that’s all I am saying about that.
I love the drawing in this post…can I have it and a teacup like that? You need to come over to my post pad comments, to see my proposition 🙂
Get well…but don’t get out of bed until you are ready…and/or have read all those lovely books.

  12. tiffany says:

Love that poem, it’s the first one I ever memorized. 🙂 Fun to see it here!

  13. sadira says:

Hello 5 year-old girl…funny that, because I remember being 5 and sick and there were a lot of threats about me actaully staying IN bed and reading and not running around to wear myself out and cause a relapse. So…no relapses, drink lots of fluid still…take it slow, and still have fun when no one’s looking!

  14. Mt absolute all-time favorite thing to do is stay in my PJ’s all day and look at my goodies!!! Unfortunately the life of a mommy needs to be structured differently(but sometimes my PJ’s win!), I always say I live at the Shel Silverstien house,be cause the side walk ends at MY house (a sample of magical to knowone but me magic in my life)! My fave is,Someone ate the baby!

  15. Sonya says:

Yes, yes, yes! Don’t we all need that – an extra day? When you are well enough to appreciate the luxury, think of it like a buffer day – one extra day of quarantine. *cough, cough*

  16. allysonhill says:

Aw you look so comfy cozy, I hope you were able to enjoy it and not feel guilty! You stirred up some great Shel Silverstein memories. I can’t wait to share that website with my darling boy, he’s going to love it! Oh and that sick poem, he always wants to stay home from school so he’ll get a kick out of that. I just found my childhood Shel Silverstein book a few days ago too!

  17. Hi hunnybunny!!! LOL, that poem was yesterday here at our house. The girls played hooky (shhh) and we went for icecream and shopping instead. But in my defense, it was only a half day of school anyways, so they didn’t miss too much.
