What a Crepe-ee Day…

Hellooo Hellooooo.  I am on a creative flow… In the studio working away.  But I came up for air to simply say, " It has been a downright fitful, crepe-ee day!"

A fitful day in the sense that… Well, I had a fit this morning.  Yes. I have those occasionally.  Think of it, like the little girl, I mean, the lovely little girl… You know the one with the bows in her hair.  Who is trying on shoes with her mom at Buster Brown.  Think 1979.  She has an angelic face, and golden curls in her very long ponytails.  Her mother slips a red leather shoe onto the tiny foot, and asks "do you like these sweetie?" And the little girl turns pink, then red, then purple, then Aaaahhhhhhh." F-i-t.

Untitled1

The doll girl freaks out, screaming, "I hate these shoes, I hate these shoes." Ponytails fly out of her hair.  And, her mother, trying to do anything to get the munchkin to calm down, starts asking questions. "Do they hurt, do the red shoes hurt?"  "I’ll get you a cookie? A pretzel? An Icee?  A lollipop."  But all the little girl can do is throw herself on the floor and kick and scream, stopping only for a long breath followed by, yet another wail… (photo by Jill Greenberg. From the "End Times" Exhibit)

The truth is. The little girl didn’t know why she had a fit then, and doesn’t know why she has them now.  (Only, now that she is a bit older than 4, the chances of hormones playing a part, is a bit higher)

Well, that is what happens around here occasionally.  The girl throws a fit.  And her manny tries so hard to make her feel better.  Even offering to drive her back to that little old town village to purchase that unnecessary treasure.  (Which they did, details to follow in next post)

But, she decided.  No, I will not fall into fit-dom.  I will make Crepes…  Crepes served with regular and white peaches.  Peaches that have been cooked in brown sugar and butter…(it is so fun cooking at Mr. Lovee’s.  He has such a down home array of cookware.  Like cast iron pans, and heavy duty glass saucepans.  Tres interesante for cooking, I’d say)

And, so it was a  fact. The crepes saved, the crepey day…

Pour

Tilt pan around and around (with mits on), to even out thickness.  Wait 20 seconds.  Flip with tip of fingers. (Have some with raspberry jam too)

Make some artsy ones for fun….

Now, stay for a few, while I get back to work…  I am running back to the studio.  I am so annoyed at myself for not having the paintings I have completed ready for viewing today….  But soon, sooner than soon… xxo

Oh, and look at tonights sky from the front yard… Halloween is a comin’…

Fullmoon

  1. flutter says:

    Oh that sky *sigh*
    also, um crepes? YUM.

  2. Catherine says:

oh we have those fits around here too! crazy they are and not very much fun… what a good idea to make crepes instead, I might try that next time.

  3. cruststation says:

I love that when you feel down you always find something positive to do like cooking delicious crepes and eating sweets 🙂 That’s what I call a positive optimistic person!

  4. Marjorie says:

Oh my God….Oh….. MY…your nighttime sky picture is divine…it’s like a brush across my cheek from a long lost love….it’s like a calm, quiet, blue hush…..it’s beautiful.
    And….you are making me hungry
    And….I’ve already eaten breakfast
And….it was nowhere near as good as crepes
    and….I have fits, too…
    for no reason
And…. I need to get back to painting!! : )

  5. French crepes ..miam miam . You are making me hungry

  6. Ooh – I remember when that exhibition opened (the one with the crying children) – there was *such* a furore, saying it encouraged child abuse, an how it was sadistic etc. etc. Well, sadistic or not, I thought the pictures were fabulous.
And oh, crepes… I’ve taken to making American pancakes for breakfast, but this morning our housekeeper pipped me to the post and dropped in a plate of Moroccan crepes before we had even woken up! Divine with her home-made fig jam…

  7. really…do you think hormones might have something to do with it????
I have fits too, do you throw things, sometimes I throw things, and worse, I throw things away…like paintings that are just “not right”…
    it’s like throwing away time….
    xoxoxoxxoox

  8. Mo'a says:

Mmmmmmmm!!!your crepes look yummy…that reminds me that I need to make some for my company that is coming soon.
The photo of the little girl is great fun…and the one you took of the moon…beautiful.

  9. carolyn says:

Halloween ? Please not yet we still need to have a bit of a summer here in the UK.

  10. Jamie says:

Vanessa I LOVE your blog! You have such wonderful things to share with us. I am glad you creped your way through the fit:) I can’t wait to see the new art works. Love, Jamie

  11. Conni says:

I’ve had a few of those fits in my day…I am a bit infamous in my family for one I had when I was 5 and my grandmother gave me a cute purple and white pants suit outfit for a birthday present. All of the family was around, and when I opened it I said, “Pants? I don’t wear pants!!!”…and threw it across the room. My parents were horrified…of course later when I discoverd that pants could actually be cute, it became my favorite outfit! :0

  12. freelisa says:

I love crepes! My favorite morning treat. There is a wonderful recipe for ricotta crepes in the breakfast Moosewood cookbook. yum!
… and we are all allowed our fits now and then. 🙂 i love that you didnt let the cloud over your head keep you from fun stuff like a market venture and crepes!!!

  13. Donna O. says:

I love making crepes but the paper always burns. Oh wait- that’s crepe paper. My mistake.
I think I made them once when trying to impress my future husband but mine didn’t look like yours. Yours are pretty.
And your post is very timely for me. I’m taking my 15 year old daughter “back to school” shopping today. Although we get along famously, I will be on the lookout out for those red shoes.
    XO- Donna

  14. Sarah says:

When I finally make it to your house, you have to cook me that exact thing. I command it! YUM!

  15. Birdie says:

    Those peaches look yummy.
If we ever meet we’ll have to do some cookin’.
Wishing you a peachy day! hehe

  16. Paris Parfait says:

My dear twin, I too had a fit, last week in fact, which must have been hormone-related, as I couldn’t think of any other reason I was so over-the-top! I could have used some crepes; yours look fabulouso. And you know I can’t wait to see your latest creations. (And tomorrow morning, Jordana will arrive with the beauties – hooray!) The moon photo is stunning! xoxox

  17. Kathleen says:

I saw this same moon and had the same feeling, it was more of an autumn type moon.

  18. phyllis says:

Oh I simply MUST have a Vanessa-style fit! You make it sound so fun! I must confess though…in the part about trying on shoes…I had to pretend it was 1968 🙂
Oh so glad Mr. Lovee sees that you are worth every tantrum…in crepes if nothing else.

  19. rochambeau says:

A Crepey day or shall we say Creepee day is far superior to a Crappy day.
Your crepes looked delish. Have fun in Creative Land.

  20. stephanie says:

The full moon, clear clear skies…yay!
You left me hanging though…..you put the yummy peaches in artsy crepe??
    I am no crepe maker…..

  21. I’d burn them or they’d be rubbery and I’d get frustrated and throw them in the trash…and probably stomp away in “that” mood. Same happens with art work.Because, yes, I have them. The “red shoe” mood. AND if in that mood should I have to dress up for something….look out. Fashion explosion..clothes everywhere……a grown woman with tears from HATING everything on me. flailing involved and an “I’m not going”. You see my lovely fits happen at all ages and for many reasons. Fits sometimes are necessary and fits release the steam and yes fits can startle the onlooker (think “honey, you look fine”)…but fits we must have now and then. And then it’s over.(until the next time)ha!
I LOVE that inky sky photo and can’t wait to see the new creations!
    XOXOXOX

  22. Rozine says:

    Oh Vanessa,
You poor little hormone hostage…best to go with the flow..and blame it on the full moon!!!!!!
    Ciao,
    Rose

  23. Lesley-Ann says:

Hi Vanessa! Oh don’t worry that mood will fly over soon I guess, you are always such a happy and optimistic person, well I always picture you like that when I read your posts :), so you must have these days occasionally I guess so there is a balance haha… But this mood will ne over as soon as you know it and I’m sure it has indeed everything to do with hormones and not with you! I love crêpes, I was in France two years ago in a beautiful little town called Lille where they had a christmas market with the best crêpes with every kind of flavour. The whole market smelled like crêpes and Glühwein! Yours look so nice, I really want to come over and have one! And I love that moon, very Halloween… I love Halloween, despite the fact we don’t cellabrate Halloween in the Netherlands… Too bad! xxxx Les (oh yes! I forgot! I loved your post before this one, very moving…! I like it that your posts have a lot of variation but are still ‘Vanessa’! )

  24. cally says:

I miss you I miss you I miss you!
Sorry I’ve been absent, for an explanation see my comment in Lisa S’s recent blog post. After I wrote it I just had to pop round here to say ‘hello missy’. So nice to see all your pics but after 3hrs detour at LS I can’t afford to start reading here too but… i will say, I saw your Bat for Lashes post (I feel that way about Regina Spektor)it made me think you might like ‘My Brightest Diamond’, though I detect a very English love in most of your musical taste so maybe not. Hugs and kisses and a lavish invitation to come over here to enjoy autumn which is showing frightening signs of starting already – Noooooooo, I’m not ready for autumn yet (tho I do love it). C xxxxxxx

  25. Dee Light says:

Oh fits abound in our house!!! Me pregnant, and my daughter 10 (just starting those preteen fits), my poor husband!!!
But something Yummy always makes it better!!! Those crepes look DELISH!!!

  26. cally says:

oops, twas true, my comment hadn’t gone to LS’s blog, my own silly fault, I forgot to press publish after doing the word verification (see what I mean, memory is kaput). It should be showing now. xox

  27. Kim Sherrod says:

I can’t add to the crepe comments. I can imagine that they were lovely, with kisses between bites. I came to tell you that we are Italian and Cherokee and a wee bit Scottish. My Dad looks like Al Pacino & Dean Martin’s Love Child- doesn’t he?

  28. Vanessa,
It is so nice to know that all you beautiful, perfect bloggers have fits too. Well done! I love that. Thanks for sharing…and I am now going to order crepes tomorrow! We dine out each Sunday morn for breakie, and I usually order fruit…not tomorrow! Crepes and fruit.
    xo

    (not totally crazy yet!)

  30. Yes crepes! Tomorrow will be our Sunday, as we skipped Sunday this week. So yay! Crepes. The restaurant is called EggsCrepes, and is a delightful greasy spoon, however they do have an incredibly healthy menu. Plus all the artery clogging goodness of eggs benedict should one so desire it!!!
Sorry my email is screwed darling, I have no idea what in tarnation is wrong there. I’ll go check it.
I’ll fire one off to you let’s see if you get it.
    xoxo

(must be the week for freak outs, I had my moment in the sun two nights ago. All is well however! 😉 )

Oh I know those fits and there are 3 of us here to have them. I think it is a girl thing! My BigGuy does the same, little trip to the craft store, for a few fun things. Oh just a little pampering to make me feel better. YUMMMMMM Crepes! Powdered sugar and lemon juice are really yummy on them, or if you like some Nutella! Looking forward to the next post!
    Love Erin~

  34. Nancy says:

If one is going to have a fit, there is nothing better than purchasing a new treasure and making peach crepes to help one get over said fit!
And I’ll bet your new treasure beats a new pair of Buster Brown shoes hands down. Of course if I had been trying on BB shoes in 1979…well, that would have just been SAD! 😉
Can’t wait to see your new creations! Oh, and the only thing your moon is missing is a ring around it! Here in Connecticut that means….SNOW (or so they say)! 🙂

  35. Oh my gawl, that little girl cracks me up! And oh my gawly, I love crepes!!!

  36. Sonya says:

I just cooked some peaches this evening – will post some lovely peachy pictures of my own. Fits are sometimes so necessary in the cathartic scheme of things. And crepes are the perfect, fluffy landing pad.

  37. Suzan says:

I adore your blog, and have been a secret reader for some time now!! I am sorry that you are having an “annoying” time, (as you put it on my blog comment.)
Thank you for your wonderful comment, and thank you for visiting me.
I hope your world gets back to “right” soon!!!
    Hugsssssss, Suzan

  38. Yay for arty crepes and fits and red shoes and Halloween moons!…and YAY for you!

  39. sadira says:

Ohhh…I had a room mate who’s father was from France and we used to always eat crepes and brie…mostly not together…but they were always good!
I could use the time to have a good fit…

  40. michelle says:

Yeah, for crepes! You have me craving them now. I think maybe that would be good for dinner, nice and cool. It is supposed to be hot today, probably not as hot as you are getting, but hot for us. I love that picture of the little girl, I think that may have been me last week and my daughter not too long ago!

  41. You? Have fits too? Oh goodie…I see I am not the only one! teehee…big fat tears too.

  42. tiffany says:

Yum… I love those with chocolate!

  43. Felicia says:

  45. Pam Aries says:

  46. denise says:

Really, I love crepes and peaches. When I get sad for my mom, I make that same thing. She used to make it for us when we were little. But no one at my house likes the peaches cooked that way except me.
OH, I loved the pictures it made me feel like going home and having my own fit, and then making myself feel better with these.
Ah, I am so happy now, thinking of those good old days.

  47. Sara says:

I luv your blog. your photos are beautiful, absolutely beautiful. It reminds me a lot of my mothers site, the three of us (you, me & my mother) have a lot of in common in finding inspiration in little things.
I stumbled upon your site because i google image searched for “screaming girl” & i found this photo…
I hope that you don’t mind that i borrowed the picture for my blog.
