It seems that the time has come for picking my last growing babes off the vine, and up from the earth.
I planted seeds in April, watered all spring and summer, and now into early autumn -we pick.
Yay!
My sign is pitiful, I know 🙂
I have brought several punkins in over the last couple months, but these are it.
Time to collect…
The last of the season from my lil’ big pumpkin patch.
Right in my back garden.
There are a handful in the actual vegetable garden.
Surprise babies in there.
But they are still green and growing.
They came later in the season.
The veggie garden is still being watered, and even though it is technically autumn,
it is in fact still very hot and summer here.
So I am watering everyday, still.
And collecting lots of herbs, cucumbers and tomatoes, still too.
But now, it’s time to say good-bye to 2012’s pumpkin patch.
Fairytale pumpkins are delicious (below), best for eating they say.
I agree.
I baked a HUGE one in late winter/spring 2012.
Then pureed it.
Made oodles of pumpkin goodies from it.
Pies and more.
And the seeds inside made this huge baby.
Make sure you save any seeds from the biggest best pumpkins you happen to acquire this year.
Scoop them before you cook the pumpkin, rinse, then dry them on paper towels.
Save in a bag until spring.
Or, save the pumpkin until spring, if it doesn’t rot.
That is what I prefer to do.
Taking the seeds straight from inside the pumpkin, to the earth.
It is so exciting, fulfilling and wonderful to grow pumpkins.
Having an extra giant pumpkin patch this year has been awesome.
Tons of work, but awesome.
It would probably cost less to go out and buy 40 pumpkins at the store, I know.
Time, water.
Time.
Water.
But still.
Collecting your own pumpkins is crazy fun.
We waited for the sun to go down, and then, in we went.
Evenings and mornings are cool, days hot.
So, it did feel a little autumn like, collecting the babes in the evening…
Lots of trips back and forth.
I am a happy girl.
Next, we need Mister Lovee to determine which one is heavier.
I already know, but I can’t wait to show him the collection tomorrow in day light.
These, plus the others on the porch already, equal lots of happy pumpkins.
It’s always bitter sweet to say this after 4 years of growing pumpkins.
Each year more.
But here goes…
“And that is the end of our homemade pumpkin patch harvest for 2012.”
I can hardly believe it, the time going by.
So.
Fast.
Wow!
Love, V

OH my goodness. The change of season has my heart sad and excited all at once. Seeing your lovely pumpkins being harvested for 2012 makes the season change so real and obvious.
I adore pumpkins. I just “pinned” one of your photos into my “Halloween Happiness” board on Pinterest.
The change from summer to autumn is always bitter-sweet. I love the fall, but am always heart-panicked at the thought of the oncoming winter months. I try to enjoy as much of the pumpkiny fall season as I can.
Thank you for sharing these photos and letting us peek into your life just a bit.

I can’t even show my pumpkin “patch”. It’s pathetic + no pumpkins…none of the flowers set up fruit. So sad…I know what I did wrong, and next year, I’ll do better.
Such gorgeous pumpkins you have in the patch, I especially love the big golden hairy one! 🙂 hee hee

I love Autumn, and it’s fantastic to see all your gorgeous pumpkins, makes me hungry, I just love pumpkin soup!
Beautiful pumpkins..you have. Happy baking to you. Yes, fall is here in Michigan…It is 7:45 a.m. and it is only 42 degrees. Very cold this morning. I’m just not ready for this time of year. I wwould rather ease into this coldness at a slower pace. Oh well, life goes on. Have to get out the warmer coats and cloths.
Have a happy week-end.
Adoro el otoño, aqui estamos en primavera estacion del año que se disfruta muchotambien.
tambien.
Buena cosecha de calabazas.
Besos amiga.
I probably say this every year but we do not get the divided fairy Tale pumpkins around me.
I am happy to report we are now seeing more white, and in varying sizes.
I need to get out and take a photo of a smiling (??) gourd nosed pumpkin man at a farm down the road.
I saw an interesting green pumpkin the other day that I do believe was ripe, and those blue gray ones are showing up but not yet popular.
This year I am fond of warty pumpkins.
Miss Linda, it was 99’here all last week. If only we could share some degrees and even out a bit 😉
Oh, I loooove them all. I can’t decide!! And, the very delicious all green when ripe pumpkins (that I adore and grew about 30 of a couple of years ago on a fluke), is the Kabocha. Yumm yumm!
love love those pumpkins!
and it wouldn’t have all that
lucious magic inside if you
weren’t able to grow them
yourself from seed 🙂
Ooh, how exciting! What a treat to see all of your hard work pay off 🙂 I feel like this deserves some sort of celebration….how about some pumpkin juice? Or pumpkin pasties? Have you ever made either? I have made the latter before, but have yet to try the former. We have a pumpkin patch by our house that I hope to visit soon so I can buy some goodies to decorate the house and perhaps bake into delicious treats! Why, just yesterday I consumed a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks! The season is definitely here 🙂
Hugs and hexes, and may your days be filled with magic 🙂
We have a new home and a new-from-scratch garden – the whole property is a start-from-scratch project for the most part, which I’m happy about, but am overwhelmed at all the decisionmaking and work it’s gonna be…. but I digress…. I planted some pumpkins but it turned out to be too shady and “the mildews” got the first plants. I planted again and it looked like the same fate awaited the one plant left but it rallied and sent out a long vine into the sun and a wee little pumpkin, still green, is valiantly struggling to mature. We’ll see if that happens. I’ve learned and next year will be moving the garden shed that’s smack dab in the best sun and hope we’ll have October pumpkins. (the same with a tiny butternut squash that I’ve got my fingers crossed on) BUT, most of the garden was so bountiful I can’t complain at all, oh no, not at all. And we have all that much more reason to visit one of the many local farms for some community pumpkin patch fun. The only thing that would make it better would be if I had one or more grandkids up here for this glorious time of year. Thank you so much for sharing all your garden beauties with us. It makes me feel all smiley.
Beautiful!
Oh, they’re great!
How fun to have your own pumpkin patch.
I imagine you sitting out there earnestly on Halloween,
waiting for The Great Pumpkin.
It always seems too early to say goodbye but you have raised some beauties. Love your pumpkin patch and your dog “helping” you. Diane
Hi Punkin!
When you said bittersweet…it made me think of that vine, you know…Bittersweet, like you can buy in the silk flowers area…well, how do we grow that? I’ve never seen anyone with it and I LOVE that fake vine of it. That’s all. Find out for us, I’m too tired right now 😉
But wait!
ARe you going to make one of those Cinderella punkins into a carriage? I’ve seen them online! with tiny punkin wheels!
Oh my goodness!!! What will you do with all those AMAZING pumpkins???
Great job Vanessa. What fun!
Your pumpkin patch is absolutely amazing. What a variety! They look like magical pumpkins, to be sure. 😉
V, your sign is delightful. Do NOT insult it. But once again we’ve come to the time of year where i am not only in admiration of you, but ENVIOUS of you. I recall the great pumpkin bug infestation in Sudbury of 2010… and that’s when I realized I’d never be able to grow my own pumpkins. Thus the envy 🙂 Don’t be surprised if one of these years I show up at your door step begging to roam around the pumpkin patch…
Love the pumpkins.
I am going to have a pumpkin patch next year.
I am definitely growing pumpkins next year!
Miss V, I need a fairy tale pumpkin in my life!
Oh pumpkin land!!!!! I just LOVE pumpkins so much. I would adore visiting with you in your pumpkin patch and helping you and the furry babies pick those beautiful gourds. I baked my first pumpkin pie of the season last week, and we froze some yummy pumpkin puree for future baking. Yum!
Pumpkin puree is such a gift. It freezes like a dream.
YAY!!! Pumpkin holidays are upon us!!!
