It is true, I must venture into the strange place for a few days. Why does entering seem so unusual? I will send a few more parcels and do some work. I also have to take a trip to the pottery studio and see how those little plates are doing + make more. I truly have to get my own kilns fired up. I have put the firing of my teeny plates in the hands of someone else. And, well, someone else does not care about your labours of love like you do, you understand this I am sure? Not that they don't do a good job. Maybe I am just a control freak??? Anyway, I might even venture to my actual home for a night or two. The loftish space has become such a home that I sometimes feel so torn between both places!!
The little plates take so many steps. There is so much love bundled into each little plate. They fly off the shelf fast, but the last step to my Etsy shop is having a few more of these finished. There is only one more glazing step to go (4 steps in total)!!! Yay!!
You remember how brilliant these colors turn up in the end? If any of you are potters, you know the difference between the glaze matte and the glaze shiny. Sometimes you don't even know what you are going to get. You just have jump in and find out later. .
On another note, the packages I sent seem to be arriving safely. I am such an impatient elf. I want to know every detail of the packages travels. Alas, since such desires are not possible, I must wait patiently.
The one below is the one I hope a safe arrival for every day!!! Silly, but true.
Miss Emily received Mr. Church Mouse. He is missed, but I am sure he will love living with Emily, as long as she remembers to put on his crown every so often…I am having empty nest syndrome. All my little loves are growing up and getting their own wings. Mousy has gone away to live, and Pirate girl is dancing wildly at night clubs in New York. This is not my imagination, Mary Contrary saw her!!

I have been so lucky to have times where I can spend days away from reality, in my little studio, a hidden little space in the world. I indulge here, playing with Vintage sequince, glitter, Giant Canvas', teeny canvas', varieties of paints and mediums and sometimes more…Enough to let you get carried away with a fantasy world completely.
And, for the sharing part of your visit…For some strange reason I just got my January ArtNews Magazine? Maybe it was lost in the mail? I was intrigued by Nall's work, that includes a trip to visit Alice and some of her friends. You can check it out at WestWood Gallery.
I am dying to visit all of you! I am waiting for a chunk of time to sit and indulge in all of your words that I enjoy reading so much. The week is busy and I might be a little slow!! But I promise to come see you!!!

Your drawings are so pretty! I love how you’ve put them onto the plates. There is a pottery place near where I live, I must attempt it. The last pottery I did fell apart! (I was ten.)
Oh a hermit girl after my own heart!! Your plates are divine as are your illustrations. And I understand the labour of love that is art, that we put so much of ourselves and our souls into each thing we do, to trust another with any stage of that is difficult. Enjoy you ‘wordly’ ventures!
Your illustrations are so unique and always makes me smile. Don’t worry, I’m sure the outside world is not as bad as you think, though I would love a hiding place to indulge as you do. So excited for your Etsy shop, I am now your number 1 fan 🙂
try and not get lost out there in the real world….we would miss you in fantasy land too much.
by the way your illustrations are so very delightful, I get so excited every time I see them!!
good luck.
I think there is a tendancy for creative types to hole up and create or just immerse themselves in the possiblities of it all. I think that’s why so many of us tend to be hermits. I’m glad you’re getting out today. Hopefully it will help you feel a bit better.
I’m getting out today too, if the weather cooperates. I get to get my mullet chopped off! I’m no good at growing my hair out; I always want to cut it off again.
Have fun in the world, love!
Dear Vanessa – how I love visiting your world – I too am a terrible hermit – and have been all my life – altho I will say that it comes in spurts – thankfully. Today I am also venturing out into the world – actually my town studio but I will have to do some “real world” stuff there. I loved what you had to say about house/home – you are so thoughtful – and you – only you commented on that dream with the car/torch – thank you so for visiting – have great day! – xox – eb.
oh I do love your drawings and the pottery is yummy! – eb.
Hi babe – I’m back. The trade show was amazing. I have finally finished the second lot of accounting and i am also finally feeling like i’m coming out of the dark tunnel that is january. My internet is still playing up but should be updating tomorrow. My, you have been busy!
Love Michelle
I just stumbled upon your site – I love it!
Oh my, those plates are absolutely delightful! I am intrigued, as well, because I’ve always wanted so badly to learn how to make pottery!!
The cover of that ARTNews made me think. I really have been wanting to start a collection of something (besides boxes in my room and clothing piles that need to be sorted before I move, gah!)… and once I move into my new place in May, it will be the perfect time. My big idea was wind chimes (ohh I love ’em) — and we do have a little porch to hang them from, but I need little things for a little apartment. Buttons! Beads!
P.S. — I’m out of the tub! And I hate pruny wrinkles!
ARTnews. Great, another magazine I must get! I am going to have to just go to the library or I’m going to go broke buying all these periodicals! Your plates look gorgeous by the way!
Enter the real world with caution… and leave a trail of breadcrumbs so you can find your way back!
I love the illustrations with the post! ‘The door that leads to the real world’. I think I need that on my door : )
They are so lovely! x
I know you will come back with a bounty of beauty to share!! See you with happy expectations!!
oh man! i wish i was in ny right now and could take pirate girl to some of my favorite spots!
and i want that copy of artnews. i always like reading articles about collecting. of course, i don´t really need any help. i think i am doing just fine on my own. maybe too fine. 🙂
how exciting to see the process of the teeny plates..
sounds like pirate girl is having the time of her life!
as always, enjoy seeing your illustrations..
and Mr.Church Mouse is ever so cute!!

thanks for all the cool links!
the plates look amazing! you are very lucky to have a place of your own to create and relax.
i hope the venture into the world was an easy one!
i love your drawings!
i cannot wait to see how your lovely plates look after firing!! 🙂
And i have been meaning to ask you, where on earth are you finding those wonderful sounding honeycomb chocolates?
I hope the “REAL” world is holding as much wonder for you as your magnificent dreamspace! 🙂
xoxox
Your drawings, your plates, everything you toch becomes magical. I love visiting this space because I feel a little swept away whenever I do! Like I’m visiting some fairy land full of all kinds of goodies. I wouldn’t say that I am not creative, but I’ve just enver found a way of letting it go and run its course. I’m too uptight! I think if I spend just a little more time here, I might be able to do it. I’ve already picked some tea that turns a beautiful shade of red, now all I need is some swatch of fabric to get me started. Baby steps, right?
Hey seester. Love the drawings. It looks like one of your drawings has on some sexy lingerie. check out my new spot, let me know what you think. Peace.
Why is it as artists (sometimes I feel I don’t deserve to use that word about myself) ,we love to be hermits ? My hub even jokes that I hate people, completely false,I adore people, its just hard to interact sometimes!
