It was a beautiful day, the first day of fall. The day I longed for…
I was about to run errands.
I saw Matty and Mister in the distance, by the big apricot tree. So, I ran over to meet them. We laughed, and sang. Mister and I danced…
Matty jumped around us.
Then we kept walking…
And, the rest I don't remember.
Well, I remember landing on a cactus and ants, and white lightning pain in my inner ankle.
And rolling around, screaming in the dirt.
My left foot had fallen into a gopher hole, that was covered by weeds and invisible.
Hello urgent care.
Turns out, I have a sprained ankle.
No break. Thank heavens!!
YAY!
But, it's still sprained.
Which means, I can't run around like I like. (for a little while at least)
So, to comfort myself….
I am hiding in here.
And, I am doing okay limping around. Although Mister keeps yelling at me to sit still (Dovee, Dovee Doveeeeee all day).
I can't do it. Sit still.
I just can't.
But I will try.
In my grouchy, I have to sit still mode, I decided that I had to find a way to make myself happy, if I had to stay in one place.
I decided I could find happiness if I could sort of semi-create the delicious lighting in the Cosmic Love video (Florence + The Machine).
I love this song. It is one of my faves of all times.
And, the lighting.
Oh.
My.
Goodness.
I want to live in that room. (especially at 2:55)
Plus the lit up dress at 1:30 is pretty magical too.
(here's the video below)
Isn't that room wonderful?
Don't you want pastel colored lights twinkling all around you?
I do, I do.
So, here's where I am.
Forced into relaxation?
Well, not that relaxing when you are in pain.
But, I'll be back to normal soon.
For now, I am staying sane by hiding in my twinkling nook.
This heart is for you.
There are so many fun things to come. I wish I had more time in a day. Don't you often feel like that?
The good thing is that, having to sit still is making me crazy excited for the Halloween Party.
I am going to paint all day tomorrow/today.
Normally I paint standing, so, we'll try sitting.
I can't sit and do things, can you?
I have to stand to blow dry my hair, and such…
Aye aye aye 😉
I suppose I am not a very good patient, at all.
🖤,V
Oh silly me, I forgot to post this earlier.
The beautiful moon on the first day (err, night) of Autumn.
ps: I found some delicious lighting at a shop called Radiance Lighting in the UK. They will ship globally if you contact them…. I want these…
Oh, look here too... yummmm!
pss: My family (including ancestors) have been using a Mexican arnica salve, well, forever really. It is helping me so much, I am slathered in it as I type. It was a regular staple growing up, and still is (I make sure to keep it on hand). I get mine in Mexico, but I will try to find a link to it in the US and tell you about it, in case you want to order some. It takes away all sorts of body aches/pains, and helps you heal.
psss: Both Laura and Roo (two of my beloved friends), unbeknownst to each other, proclaimed that I took a fall on fall. That I fell into fall :) True enough, haha!
pssss: Mister is making my post office deliveries, so that orders don't get delayed. And, I get to sit and make little parcels for folks who place an order. I love packaging orders. It delights me to no end.

Oh, I would love to sit in that room! But so sorry you have to sit in that room when you would rather be somewhere else. Love your blog!
I have given you a blog award. Forgive me if you don’t participate in these things.
Here is the direct link:

I told you Florence was awesome!! 🙂 Cosmic Love was the song that caused me to ‘fall’ in love with her music! [I could NOT resist the pun. Sorry about your ankle. Hope you’re feeling better soon!] 🙂
shay
Shay,we are kindred! I have loved Florence + the machine for a
while. I discovered her last year, when she covered one of my
favorite songs by Candi Staton “You’ve got the love.” I have been
listening to Cosmic love for months and I LOVE it.I agree, she is amazing.
Hiyeee!!
Can’t see the video (at work) but I’ll take a gander once I get home tonight but I’m sure it’s quite magical!
Love the pictures! Very dreamy and relaxing. Again having a severe case of envy!
Almost had a heart attack at the cost of those fairy lights! Wow!! But they’re sooo pretty! I did a search on how to create my own and there’s TONS of tutorials on it. I had a thought that mebbe make some of your lovely flowers/spider webs/snowflakes into fairy light covers? I’m going to drag out some from my xmas stash and see what I can come up with this weekend!
Just a thought!
~Rori~
Rori,
I have been making little light covers for two days…. see what
sitting still does to a person? I made some with tissue paper. I am
going to test them, hope they dont get too hot 🙂
The Chinese have also used arnica for a long time too. I hope you heal quickly and are soon back to full speed. Love the lights, it is so magical. And yes, standing up is definitely the mode for many things. Just can’t take the time to sit, it slows me down.
Oh, Vanessa, I hope your ankle is better soon! I know when I am laid up I can take about a week of it, but then I have to get up and move around. Even if it is just to get the blood flowing! I do a lot standing up, too. : )
OMGoodness OMGoodness OMGoodness! I am madly in love with your twinkle nook!!! Where is it at? In the house? In the garden? In a secret place? A Holy Place. Love LOVE Love 🖤🖤🖤
Oh so very sorry about your fall into Fall. OUCH. Sprains are more painful than breaks actually, and require much rest.
I do know that you can make your own twinkle light covers with balloons and paper mache. For smaller ones try water balloons. For Christmas I used to make garlands from twinkle lights using two tiny plastic cups, putting the light in the center, then wrap in colored clear wrap, the kind you would wrap a gift basket in…and tie the two ends to look like candy.
Be well, my Beloved Magical Muse. **blows kisses** Deb
Hehehehe!! Of course!!
I found a video on how to make mini origami lantern covers for LED lights. Sooo many ideas! 🙂
If you use LED lights they don’t heat up so you don’t have to worry about them catching fire. Or, at least that’s what hubby told me!
Miss Deborah, queen of caring and goodnessss! The nook is right here
😉 Jump in!! 😉 Faun Boy, snail girl and the witches are
waiting 😉

Oh and here more recently:
http://afancifultwist.typepad.com/a_fanciful_twist/2010/09/autumn-light.html
Dear Vanessa, so sorry you hurt your ankle and have to be still, but just think of all the fantastic ideas you will come up with while letting your imagination roam. The harvest moon on the first day of autumn was beautiful. What a treat! Feel better soon, jennifer
The lighting is beautiful! I myself have twinkling lights glittering all over my little place, it makes everything seem so dreamy;) Take care of yourself and heal soon V:0{{{{{
Poor thing. To have to sit still is a pain in the butt, I know how you feel. I hope your leg feels better again soon so you can run around and dance again. And until, just let those twinkling fairies dance for you 😉
well now you will have to rest!:) those lights would certainly cheer you up they are amazing and not too far from where I live (about 1hr drive or so). You must have great taste I looked at the lights before I saw your choice – yes I picked those too……. take care of yourself.. Ciao
PS I lurve fairy lights all year round…
Oh no! The falling over and rolling around screaming sounds so familiar! I have broken and sprained my ankles and it hurts! Hope you enjoy resting in your sparkling nook-I kind of dream of sitting still but hardly ever can, and when you are forced to it is not the same! I am sure Mr Lovee and Matty will look after you. Enjoy your painting day!
I’m terribly sorry about the pain you’ve found yourself in, but at least you’ve a magical little place to relax^^
Feel better soon 🙂
~Sarah
Oh, I am so sorry about your ankle!! Sometimes the universe forces us to slow down and we realize we aren’t always in charge! Eeek! Believe me, I empathize!
I too LOVE twinkle lights! Any excuse to use them is a great excuse!
Beautiful photos and thanks for sharing the video! It’s wonderful and dreamy! (I have lots of crystals in my room!)
Feel better and try to enjoy the cozy at home time! Looks like you have a beautiful place for it!
Blessings and light!
Be a good patient – remember how Mr.Lovee was injured – you can do it! Arnica gel is a godsend – my daughter used it for an ankle injury in ballet. We found it at a health food store (Good Earth).
Those gophers need a natural remedy also —
Hope it heals quickly! At least you will be sitting in a magical, sparkling place!
I met puppies today – five ones – and wasn’t allergic at all! Yay! Puppy love: http://blog.afiori.com/2010/09/puppy-love-available-for-adoption.html
Vanessa,
I knew you had to be a special person when I found you (possibly stalk you) through my crazy, lovely, fancy friend Laura (Rhinestone Armadillo)….
Now that you have blogged through ankle pain AND posted Florence + the Machine, I KNOW you’re uber-special.
Stacy
A wondrous sight…Love it. Completes my day. I made a spell for you to be free from pain and to heal fast. You are amazing.
Oh Vanessa I look forward to your blog posts so!!!! I just started a new blog and added you straight away! You are a fabulous force of energy! Thank you for your continued inspiration and innocence!!!
Your twinkle light nook is simply perfect. So sorry to hear about your ankle and having to sit still! I hate sitting still too. Feel better soon!
I am so very sorry to hear that those gophers are at it again–causing you grief! Please do take good care of our Vanessa while that ankle heals. So sorry you are in pain. : (
Oooh, you are right–that Radiance Lighting site is beautiful!
The twinkling nook is so inviting. I am glad you have a beautiful place to rest. Hugs and hugs to you.
For such a painful experience you made it so lovely with the music and lights…I do hope your ankle heals quickly. I use Arnica, topically and orally when I have bumps and bruises…
Oh dear Vanessa!!!! So sorry you took a stumble. I’m happy to hear that it’s only a sprain and not broken. I’ve turned my foot in the yard as well, thanks to mole holes. Doesn’t that sound odd?
And HAPPY AUTUMN!!!! The most beautiful season of all, don’t you think? It is magical. Sparkling and twinkling lights are divine. And I am SO delighted you love Florence & the Machine!!!! I ADORE them. It was my favorite CD release of last year. “Dog Days” hooked me in. But “Cosmic Love” is just as wonderful. Actually, all the songs are fabulous. I constantly listen to the CD. Florence has the most powerful voice…LOL sorry I can go on and on when it comes to music I love. But I agree with you completely – I WANT to be in that room and have that dress. Having beautiful long red hair and that extra twinkle in my eyes would be cool, too.
Take care of yourself, Miss V!!!!! Have a wonderful day of painting tomorrow.
xoxo Theresa
I’m so sorry you’ve hurt your ankle. My husband tells me that his mama used leaves from a Bay Laurel tree for a sprain. He said she would soak them in very warm water for a few minutes and then wrap them around the sprain. I love to hear my mother-in-law’s old-fashioned home remedies. The Arnica salve is a great thing! I’ve seen it before, at the Supermercado here on the south end of our little city. I love visiting the Supermercado, and buying the the little Mexican candies with my daughter. Walking through the store, looking at the colorful Pinatas.
I hope you feel better very soon. First star I see tonight, I’ll wish for your speedy recovery. Hugs from Miss Lori, and Miss Miranda.
HEY! I don’t know who she is, but OLIVE APPLEBY has got to be fabulous.
I had an aunt named Elva Olive—did I tell you that? Isn’t that the coolest name EVER??? She was a Beautician, in the way only a Texan can be.
WOOOOHOOOO!!!! Rooooo! We ROCKED the cheese!!!! I’m secretly—oh, wait–this is public—-not-so-secretly thrilled we both made the same Uber Dorky pun. You Fell on the First Day of FALL—-we are big fat dorks.
I am so obsessed with the Cosmic Love video I’m dreaming about it. Honest-to-God dreaming about it. I also want the glittery mirror room. And a stack of dry leaves to toss around. Maybe a small entry closet? OH! OH! A bathroom! A totally mirrored bathroom with dry leaves on the floor. So you can take care of business all naturale and whatnot and then look at yourself after touching up your gloss and splashing some leaves in the air.
Hmmm…..not sure I’d want to have to CLEAN that bathroom, though.
You did a great job with the twinkly recouperation station, V!
Love
Laura
A twinkly pretty place to get well – enjoy the attention from your two male nurses!
Oh Dear!!! Falling into Fall? I understand being in love with Fall and swooning at the first sight of Fall’s fallen leaves, but Falling into fall? I can also understand falling in love with Fall, or falling head over heels for Fall, but I’m sure that however smitten you are with Fall, you could have done without the fall ;-O. I’ll blow happy little healing prayers your way in hopes of a quick recovery and I’m ever so thankful that not one of your wee little bones was broken.
Lovely video…I just hope there was no perspiration involved with those tiny electric lights…a most unpleasant thought ;-(.
Much love to you my wounded Friendling 😉
Ouch! But if you must lounge around somewhere with a sprained ankle, your twinkle nook is definitely the place to do it. I wish I had somewhere to put a twinkle nook of my own!
I hope the ankle gets better soon before you go crazy not being able to run around.
I’m not sure if this is the best time of year to be layed up or the worst. It’s so beautiful out now that being on the mend forces you to stop and take notice a little closer to the magic that is happening before our eyes. But also because it is so wonderfully delicious outside one wants to not miss a busy second!
oh, take care of that ankle! 😉
my dear vanessa my fairy witches would like to heal your ankle! so please visit our magic party….
mis v…please stay off that ankle…a sprain is worse than a break, trust me…if you don’t let it heal, it will take forever to get better!!! been there done that!!!
i am sending healing energy your way!! lots of it several times a day!!!
XOXOX
V~
I have been listening to Florence and the Machine all week…love her!!
Oh, no – PLEASE listen to your Mister and sit still!! Having sprained my left ankle three times (each time visiting a Dr, but never having it wrapped, and always trying to walk too soon) I am now in a permanent ankle brace. The orthopedist said he’d rather I’d broken it, because a break will fuse back together completely, but torn muscles and ligaments, not so much…I so regret not wrapping the darned thing and staying off it!
Now that I’ve scared you, lol, I must tell you how magical your photography is, and how much I LOVE that video! How is it I’ve never heard of her before? What an amazing voice…
Okay, back to the studio for me….
Please take care of yourself and let Mr. Lovee fetch and carry for you – you’ll be glad you did! 🙂
🖤 Carolee
Oh my, I’m so sorry you hurt yourself, but you’ve certainly created magic from it all, bravo! Love what you’ve done with the place!
🖤Sharon
Oh! I hope you feel better soon!
lovely gittery post though!
So sorry to hear of your unfortunate accident… darn gophers, we have holes all over the place too… apparently too wiley for my Cats to catch!? But the Magical Twinkling Nook you have created to heal in is fabulous… sending Healing Energy and Vibes your way so that you’ll be up and Dancing again soon… Dawn… The Bohemian
I’m so sorry to hear about you ankle….I sprained my many years ago now…..but it hurts like heck and my doc told me it can be worse than breaking it because it takes longer to heal and can pop up and start hurting again out of the blue from over use…..which I have found to be true…..I will wake up some days and my ankle will hurt for no good reason!
I love your lights…..I want to be in a twinkling nook!!!!
Ouchie….cactus!!!
I do hope your running around soon, but I wouldnt mind being confined to that white heavenly day bed. Ohh the dreams of a mother!
enjoy your painting, and parcel packaging. two wonderfully satisfying jobs.
healing thoughts your way
xxx
sheree
How enchanting is this post! And love the video, thanks! Hope you’ll get better soon 🙂
OH!! You poor, poor Dearie!! I hope your ankle feels much better soon! Cactuses and ants! Oh no!! What a terrible time, indeed! Poor, poor Miss Fanciful! I’m thinking of you and sending many well wishes!! 🙂
i hope your ankle heals quickly- i adore your beautiful twinkle lights- always so pretty here.
standing, sitting, laying down, can’t stop the creativity from RUNNING through your veins.
Hope you feel better soon.
I know there is a similar salve available in the US, including some aloe for reducing pain. Alas the person I could easily ask is no longer with us. And the jar I have has no lable.
Your blog is a delight! Thank you for the spider web tutorial Awesome!
I will add your link to my favorites on my blog. You are the first blog on my list.
Thanks 🙂
Prayers that you mend real soon, Vanessa! I love your twinkling nook. Have a nice day. Twyla
Enchanting and charming~ Love it!!
-How do I join in on your Halloween party? Im adding the button to my blog…I wanted to know where do I register at?
Thanks and have a sparkling magical day~
Hi Vanessa,
What a magical place to heal! I also come from a Mexican family and I am familiar with your healing salve. Sounds like you are being well taken care of. However, as your friend I want to let you know that I am also a Physical Therapist so if you have any questions about your full recovery drop me an e-mail.
I’m so excited about our Halloween parties!!!
Hoping you heal at lightning speed.
((Halloween Hugs)),
Sylvia
Poor Miss V! I hope you feel much better soon, but if you have to be stuck someplace that nook looks so divine! I love, love, love all your sparkley lights! I have a little window seat nook that I have been decorating to turn into a magical escape, and it now has something to aspire to.
Darling V!!!
Leave to you to almost fall down the rabbit hole!
Hope you are feeling better soon!
Owie – so sorry you had an unfortunate accident and that your ankle heals quickly. In the meantime, while you are stuck hobbling around or laying in bed – here’s my blip.fm DJ station. There’s loads of shoegaze and dreampop songs for inspiration. You can listen to music and daydream and be creative.
*Sending you love & rainbows from Florida*.

Get better soon sweet Vanessa!
Oh, I can relate to you in that I too like to create standing up. Love all of your twinkling images. They are so dreamy. Take care my friend! 😉
Hope you feel better soon.

I was so sad!
I have a hard time sitting still too!
But if I could nestle under all of your fairy lights…I might like sitting and just DREAMING the days away!
You are too cute!
I am so sorry you fell!
I KNOW you must have cried!
And I know Mister and Matty were taking care of these Sweet~Girl!
I would LOVE to know where I can get some of that MAGIC salve!
You must send me the info if you find.
My joints and aches are needing it badly!
Snuggles to you and Matty from Doogan and I!
And thoughts of BABY come every time I pop over into your sweet world!
Love to you Vanessa!

The strings of fairy lights from Radiance Lighting are so charming! I want some!!!
There is just something so magical about the tiny strings of lights when they are strung about in a room.
Fall has had my mind in a tizzy. It must have been for the fact that the moon and sun were on both horizons at the same time, east and west as the sun was setting on the very first day of fall and the moon was rising. I have felt giddy ever since….
I did have a sort of deja vu about you, remembering your slight car mishap last year, about this time.. so maybe I was sensing a mishap when you hurt your ankle…all I remember I was saying a small prayer for you…strange how that happens.
Hope your foot feels better soon.
You can’t tie a kangaroo down…Oops!
That should be something roo should be saying!
Seriously, fall does something to my mind, kind of the opposite of spring fever. Falling down a magical rabbit hole…I think that would have been much more fun for you than your foot lodging in a gopher hole!
Cheerio!
Looking for fun on Oct. 16th!
Miss Teresa
Oh no, a fall on fall, tee hee…that Roo is such a jokester 😉 Hey, I used Arnica too…I think I get it from the local health store, isn’t it wonderful?! So glad you are healing nicely, I’ll bet you are getting ants in your pants (I can’t sit still either).
Love your lighted nook Vanessa…it looks mighty relaxing! That video is nice too.
Big hugs,
Jamie 🙂
Lovely post – except for the ankle mishap! Hope your confinement is not too horrible and your recovery is speedy.
Please, please please come decorate my bedroom with lights like those in your photos! It is gorgeous, romantic, lovely, beautiful — I can’t stop looking at the photos! Thank you for sharing, and for turning an event that would have made many grouchy (a sprain) into a time for sharing such beauty!
Oh, no! Poor Missy Vee. That’s the kind of thing I do ALL the time – my own Mister tells me that if there was a thick patch of air, I’d find it and trip on it!
While you are pretending to sit and rest, I highly recommend streaming Netflix if you subscribe. It’s seen me through rehabbing a bad back. Saved my sanity, it did!
Sending you healing positive waves,
xoxo,
Kate
Ouch! Glad to read in the newest post that you are doing better. Gopher holes are so troublesome….in so many ways. Sometimes I just don’t understand why they live here.
I hope your ankle is feeling better.
Love your nook.
Love the video and the magical light dress.
I want a room for of magical twinkling lights.
Thank you for the sparkles 😉 The dress is amazing, you’ll have to get busy with the led’s.
The lighting shop is in the little town next to my hometown, it was great to see it on your blog, they have some wonderful things.
Hope you’re all healed up soon 🙂
I’m sorry! I hope you are feeling much better?
