I have been living in my very own playroom down in the studio… Strange and interesting things happening in the depths of my imagination. A little girl, telling me stories of how she escapes through a doorway in her playroom’s checkered floor… Through a secret keyhole, and into "The Curious Playroom."
I will be adding her to my Etsy shop this evening…
She is a paperdoll that I drew on cardstock and decoupaged to a canvas background I painted. I then built her dress out of vintage dictionary pages. I painted the tree, canvas, ship and floor, right onto the canvas. The house and the doorknob-keyhole are decoupaged images that I painted over.
I am so in love with this little sweetie. She is such a character. Telling imaginative stories that make your heart flutter… She would look so lovely framed, and is the perfect depth canvas for framing. I can just see her now in a fairytale type frame…
The next piece I have to share, is a Super Bake Girl Silhouette. I hand drew her, and cut her out of heavy black card stock. Not perfect in every way, but quite charming. Of course, I am a bit biased.. Ha hee…
She is titled, "Sneaky Superbake Girl Silhouette." I really love the color of these old music sheets. They came out of this beautiful big red fabric music book. I know, how could I have taken it apart?? Anything for art right? I also added a bit of a brown wash… Very mysterious…
She has the scalloped edges that most of the SuperBake girls have. And, she is on that super thick canvas. There is a light crackle in the black scallops. Happens often when there is a glue residue. I really enjoy the effect.
The last piece for this evening falls into the Halloween mood. It is titled "Delightful Flight." There is a sparkly moon, covered in ultra fine iridescent glitter. There is black glitter on a bat and the background is covered in mica flakes… But, the star of the show, is the Witch herself… Both her and the bat were silhouettes that I drew and hand cut. The entire piece is sealed with matte/satin varnish.
The background started with many layers of music notes, sheer papers and a bit of paint. She was so much fun to make.
I love the blue peeking through in the background.
Here is one last shot, so you can see the sparkly mica. I must get more mica, it is just wonderful. Not overly sparkly. I love that!
I am off to add these to my shop… Then off to bed. I will be going into the real world tomorrow to do some fun things. I am going to do my mammie’s hair & perhaps bake the cake that is on the cover of the Country Living magazine… Oh, and visit my in town home, which I do miss…
You all will have to help me find some fake warts because, my wart was a rogue zit. So sad!! It is totally gone… Got any warts for me???

Wow! I am the first commenter and someone else has already absconded with The Curious Playroom! Sigh. It’s wonderful, full of whimsy and mystery. And your others are rather mysterious as well – I love your imagination and the way your mind works, Miss Arizona! xoxox
Ooooh, they are all three just so gorgeous, I don’t know which I like the best! I see the lovely curious playroom girl has already found a new home, no surprise. I love witchy poo and I never tire of super-bake girls. I should have lovely dreams after feasting my eyes on them all!
oh these are beautiful of course! i just love your art soooo much… I used mica flake on my red lady painting in my shop… on her hair… i love that stuff! totally addicted…
Don’t know if Wurzle Gummage ever made it to the USA but the actor playing Wurzle alledgely had the breakfast cereal Rice Krispies stuck to his face to make convincing warts!
Really love the Curious Playroom, the girl’s expression is wonderful and her dress!! Love the silhouette super bake girl and witch too, they look so perfect on the music sheets. Ahh…I wish I could go for a walk into your imagination, must be so much fun!!
oh my goodness oh my goodness – I can’t even begin to describe how much I love The Curious Playroom – a print will bought very soon – I just adore it so. Oh my dear I am so sorry your wart wasn’t real – I am sure you must be dissapointed (tee hee)!
When I was a smaller girl my grandmother in superwitchy style would tell me the best way to get rid of a wart was to sell it for a penny and then forget it. True enough this always worked and they disappeared into the dusty corners of my imagined attic.
Somewhere out there must be a tiny collection of my childhood warts….grandmother told me I was getting them on my left hand because I was playing with too many frogs….can there be too many frogs?
Anyway please feel free to borrow one if you can find them….I’m sure you can you’re clever like that.
x
Oh wow wow wow! These peices are all so charming! I especially love the Curious Playroom! That darn zit should be ashamed of itself for teasing you so! ;o)

Did you know Victoria magazine is back in publication soon!!! I’m over the moon for that magazine! 🙂
More fantastic pieces from the talented Miss Vanessa! I love them all! But I am SO happy that I decided to see if there was anything new going on through the secret keyhole before I went off to bed last night. Because it was then that I spied all your lovely new paintings and was able to make off with “The Curious Playroom” just as you had listed it…lucky me!! 🙂
LOVE the witch as well, and I am so sorry that your wart did not last at least until Halloween!
You nailed that ship! I love everything today. Can I eat cake with you and Mummie?

Darling girl….OMG….want to hear a shock? I am at a loss for words! Not enough adjectives!
I ordered a print immediately upon seeing it, that says it!

I love them all so much! I have been in creative playland as well…and am having a hard time doing anything else right now…but, I must go get magazines!!!
Am lovin’ your keyhole, key images. The little ‘Sneaky Superbake Girl Silhouette’ holding the key…love that!
AND you have inspired my to begin to embrace this upcoming Halloween, dia de los muertos season…kicking and screaming as I don’t want summer to end…
I feel that you get so many comments now that you no longer need me to add my drivel. But I will anyway, because I love you. You should try to find one of those toads that were doin’ it in your yard awhile back and rub it on your face. If that doesn’t produce a wart, I don’t know what will!
Oh, those are all amazing. I love the effect the mica gives, over the sheet music pages. I also love the curious playroom one – very Alice in Wonderland-ish. Thanks for giving us such pretty things to look at! 🙂
What can I say Vanessa, once again you have managed to turn all of our heads. Sneaky Superbake Girl holds the key to our hearts and so do you!!
Amazing work, the key to me is so much how I feel about your blog, it really is like slipping delightfully into another world. Hey I have never looked at your shop before as I do not have a paypal account OH my the Sirens wish…the mermaid picture is stunning. I haves seen your works on small foxes blog and I know why she raves about you.
Lovely
Suzie
My dear, your new beauties have charmed me as always. I’m so sorry to hear about your wart. If I come across one in need of a home I’ll certainly send it your way.
Love the new works, especially The Curious Playroom–wonderful! I’d like to live there if I could.
As for warts…at least temporary ones:
You can make fake warts with black or white peppercorns (be sure to keep them well away from your eyes!), dipped in corn syrup as “glue.” Hold in place on nose or chin until dry, and add a little make-up/foundation as needed. For an extra touch, take a hair or bristle from a paintbrush and affix to the wart with a little more corn syrup. Voila! Witchy wartiness achieved!
Oh you know I love all 3, but the witchiepoo it my favorite!! I can feel the wind in my hair as if I am right there with her! As for warts I am fresh out. Sorry.
Love Erin~
*Sigh* The Curious Playroom, I absolutely love her…and how her ribbons mimic the tree branches. I will be very happy to have a print…now I shall tackle Esty, it is about time…I keep threatening and procrastinating.

xoxo
Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh! Sorry for whining, but I SO wanted that witch! I’d even found the perfect spot for her on my wall. Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh! Yes, I’m pouting a little. I love it all, V! You’re amazing!
Your art work is lovely. The middle one is my fav. And those thick canvas they are on seem to just fit perfect. If you are looking for a wart, watch out for pretty little packages in a fork of the road. My mom insist it worked for her. She had a wart, and was told to rub a rock on it, put in it a pretty package and lay it in the fork of a road. Who ever comes along and picks up the package will take your wart. I don’t know???
my particular favorite of yours is the silhouette of the witch on her broom. Love it!
