It is raining hard in the desert today. Darkened skies, bring many many smiles. I type as Mr. Lovee plays his bass… As you know, it does not rain often here. All my life, rainy days meant stories and pancakes. We yearned for rainy days in my family… Time to sneak around, peek in bookcases…
I curled up in a cozy corner and decided to look at my grandmother’s album, I already have many of the pages memorized, as I look at it often. Yet, each time, I find faces and people, places, I had not noticed before…
Funny little children make me smile. And, I wished that all of a sudden color would come to the photo below, the carousel would start going, and the music would come through. Like a movie coming to life…
Of course, my grandmother makes me swoon everytime I look at her. She is and was so lovely. I think of her, still living in the same house, sitting at home sewing on her very old sewing machine, to this day…
She is such an amazing woman. She sings and dances, tells tons of stories. Fairytales a plenty, and lots of scary stories as well. Ghosts and great great great grandmothers almost buried alive. They live in the most unusual place really. In such an old house at the edge of a cliff. She is my Grandma (French, Nana Josephina, my mammie’s mammie). She cooks on that wood burning stove I have showed you. She is so amazing to me, because she is refined and glamorous, yet real and gets dirty and cooks on her wood stove…
She always had birds and a huge fluffly white cat. But I never had seen her with a dog. I love this photo…
I don’t know why, but looking at these photos, makes me miss everyone. Even though they are all still with us. There are definite heart string tugs going on…
Oh, this photo I had to share. So classic and giggly too!! Could those girls really have been that serious? My Grandmother told me who they are, and I forgot…
I keep a photo of my grandmother by my bed, some of you have seen it (it is somewhere in a past post)… I just love her so much. I don’t see her nearly as much as I should. She is only 2 hours away. I should make more time, I really should.
I will share more photos another day, as there are hundreds. The best part, the thing that stands out the most, is how all the children, in group photos, really do look like the little rascals. They are so terribly funny, and so adorable.
As I look at all these photos, I can’t stop thinking of Corey Amaro. One of the main memories I have of first reading her blog was about her father, and her family. Huge prayers to her and her family, and to her dear sweet father. Also, Constance has informed us that it is darling Corey’s birthday. May she feel all our love and support…
I am about to get working in the studio today. So many ideas swirling about, I can’t contain myself!! And, I love that I can hear the rain on the skylight, and see water drops outside my windows…
I will be participating in One World-One Heart (An event put on by sweet Lisa). I will announce my giveaway for the event in my next post. Also, I am sending out all my other giveaways to winners this week. I got a little behind with the chaos you all are aware of, but we are now on track. Back on the ship to all of our dreams…
Huge hugs to Miss Casey, Miss Carol and Miss Debbie for the "Make my Day award." So touching!! Especially when they all help make my day!
For today, I am changing the rules a bit, everyone who comes here today, gets a "You Make My day Award", and if you e-mail me your address, I will send you a surprise postcard, via snail-mail. Just in time for Valentine’s day! Yay!!!
For now, Hi-ho hi-ho, it’s off to work I go….
See you sooooooon!! 😉

The photo of your abuela and the dog is my favorite out of this batch you posted. I can’t wait to see more.

Very Beautiful, she is! But I think most Grandmothers are! I love Black and white photos. They leave so much to the imagination! Rainy days are great! I love them, when I am home all alone, and have the time to do what ever I want!
Love Erin~
Oh my stars! I have the wierdest thing about carousels! I have a collection going.. I told myself that I’d use it to decorate one of the kids rooms someday but, of course, they all want something else or they’re too “old” now for that sort of thing! Boy, your grandmother sure was a beauty! I’m so glad for you that you have all those old photos! Blessings… Polly (p.s. got my website up finally!)
Thank you for sharing specially the photos spoke lots to me. Have a wonderful creative day!
I love grandmothers and stories of their lifes..unfortunatelly,my gramdmothers are not with us more but I have memories and photos..I always keep the photo of my grandmother Jelka (Elisabeth) in my room and that photo is a piece of the greatest treasure for me..
And your Nana really was a beauty and certainly she is still the one.
I love the photos of your grannie Miss V!! I don’t remember much about my grannies, just that my dad’s mom was a very good cook/baker and always had a sour, sad look on her face in photos. My ma’s ma was also a great italian cook, not a baker though and was always happy and cheerful and did’nt speak much english. Too bad i didn’t really know them, they both died in their early 70’s.
I know how you feel with the ideas swirling thing and feeling excited to work in the studio, creating fanciful things. Another give-away!!!!!! Yahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
How fun and exciting.
Speaking of weather, another clue to what i’m sending you, it is weather-related!!! Love to keep you guesssing…hee!!

Your grandmother is so beautiful!! I just came across a bundle of pictures of my mom’s side of the family recently….yummy black a white treats! 🙂 I only met my Granny twice in my life before she passed away….but from what I hear she was pretty amazing!
I’m glad your getting rain….I always long for rain! 🙂
Happy Monday Deario!
You don’t need to send anything to us my lovely as you’ve already sent so much! But I just wanted to say how very lovely your grandmother is x.
Your Grandma is so beautiful. It is so nice that you have such a love for her. I am sure that it means so much to her.
Have fun in the Studio today.
what wonderful photographs – I love other peoples old B&Ws, especially when they are as charming as those
know what you mean about that nostalgic feeling when the thing you are feeling nostalgia for is not lost – it is a very peculiar sensation indeed
Really a lovely and touching post.
The photos are beautiful…what a treasure.
Your grandmother is beautiful! I love old photographs and never tire of looking at them.
Enjoy the rain! But stay warm and dry inside. Hugs to you.
Lovely post, and your grandmother is beautiful. I remember one of my grandmothers, my mums mum, but not my dads, we didn;t see much of his side of the family, as they lived in Malta, and my dad was in the Royal Air Force, so we were always travelling. Must try and find some photos.
Your grandmother is absolutely beautiful
I love the photos of your beautiful grandmother.
Karla
Your Grandmother is so gorgeous! Stunning really. I love old photos like that. And, I like to keep them up and around too. I have a photo of my cute grandpa in his Merchant Marine uniform and one of my granparents on the day they got engaged. I like to think of them like that.. young and so energetic with everything ahead of them. They have lived through amazing times and seen so much.
That last photo of your paint palatte.. gorgeous!
Thanks for being so kind to little c. She like to think you are her friend too!
I love that picture of your grandmother with the dog. There is such joy and freedom in her face.
How are things today? Better than yesterday?
Love these wonderful photos of your grandmother and other relatives. She was – and is – gorgeous! I miss my grandmother so much. Glad you’re enjoying a rainy day! Have fun in your studio creating wondrous things! xoxox
God bless your beautiful Grandmother and you.
I love everything you post………….
Thanks for your visit and kind words.
Blessings
It is completely evident from these photographs that your grandmother loves life — you can see it in her smile. I daresay you take after her — little wonder you are so close.
I’m SO glad that VV is taking part in OWOH — it has been awesome so far. I didn’t know about it last year (wasn’t blogging at the time) but I am so delighted to be part of this … it’s an incredible event.
Such fun family photos! Makes me want to visit my Gram. I love the picture of your palette too, so pretty! I loooove those shrooms under glass too. Oh, I am so sending you an emai, I love Vanessa anything coming to me!
Your grandmother is absolutely beautiful and I bet she still is today. Do find the time to spend more time with her because once she’s gone you’ll think of so many more questions you wish you had asked. My grandmother lived with me for two years before she passed and I cherish every minute of those two years. Love all the pics. I have some of my mom, who passed away in 2003, when she was in her twenties – posing in shorts on a stack of lumber (my dad was a builder) with her head thrown back. I always love to look at them too. Fun things albums – one of these days I’m going to get all those photos out of the big box and put them in albums – in my spare time of course LOL
Jill
A little trip down memory lane is a wonderful concoction for the soul…. Suzy
She looks like a movie star! Wow..such a Beauty. I adore old photos. I enjoyed looking at yours. I could sit and gaze at pictures for hours. My Gradma had a hatbox full of them.
Dear Miss V,
I leave for a few days and come back to so much! Pipes, mice, and your lovely grandmother – you HAVE been on an emotional roller coaster, haven’t you?
Take care, dear Miss V, and know that we all wish you wonders and surprises of the sweetest kind in the coming days!!!
xo
Your grandmother’s a looker!
your grandmother is so pretty…aren’t we so lucky to have wonderful grandmothers who inspire us?
make sure to check out my Mushroom love post today..I know you will love it…fungi gal!

Oh how delicious! My mother bought a HUGE box of old photos recently, and we just poured through them…they were not of anyone we knew, but we kept sorting them and trying to put them in order…They were taken sometime in the 40’s maybe? I’m not too sure, but the clothes were just wonderful, and there was one little girl in particular who was a peach! She posed all dressed up in her cute little outfits and then there was a picture of a group of children that looked as though they could have been the inspiration for The Little Rascals…a truly beautiful motley crew indeed!
Your grandmother was a stone fox, as was mine…I must dig out some pictures and post them…tall with black hair and blue eyes whoot-woo!
I hope you have my address, but I can email it to you if you do not…
Hi Vanessa,
Thanks for visiting my blog! Be sure to sign up for my giveaway too! Just have to scroll down a bit.
I adored my grandmothers…both gone now, but their love lives on and on. I still talk to them and honestly, my one grandmother(Louisa) inspires so much of my art. She left me a BIG cedar chest and every time I go in it, I find something else to make me laugh or cry or make something! The best day was when way way down under all these linens was an old box with a rubberband around it, containing letters from my grandfather that he’d written to her during WW1!!! This was before they were married…it was such a gift to find those and I know both of them smiled on me that day.
Do visit your grandmom as much as you can…you will be glad you did. Hugs..
I can see where you get your beauty from…your Grandmother is stunning.
How sweet of you to send out a greeting to dear Corey…what she and her family must be going through…I am so happy that so many good thoughts are going out to her.
I got a mailer deamon when I tried to e-mail you today…it must be your spam filter working. I will send you my address…you are the sweetest and most generous person. xoxox
What great photos capturing your grandmother in her youth. She has a natural beauty with a look of a wise woman. On first impression she has some of the qualities of Ashley Judd.
The picture of the two girls just crack me up. They’re giving the photographer a look like” Are you through already!?! Thanks for sharing those:)
i would love a valentine’s card from you! it was interesting reading about your grandma as my grandma has been on my mind as well. she passed away 2 years ago this feb. she had dementia in the end, but i was remembering things she did for us kids, etc. and your are right, i find myself missing people that are right in front of me. maybe they’ve grown up a little or they’ve changed and i miss the old person i knew – or maybe i’m just missing the past.
What a gorgeous picture of your grandmother. A real beauty.
I love to see vintage pictures like this. Great post!
Your grandmother – such glamor shots. Love it.
You and I must be twin granddaughters or something – my grandmother sounds a lot like your grandmother and I adored her. She’s passed on now but she’s still a role model to me – she was both sophisticated and rebellious and yet could grow a garden, can preserves, and had a entire room full of craft supplies.
Ditto on the sound of rain. We don’t get a lot of it here either, average of 14″ of precip a year and a lot of that comes in the form of snow. Snow is lovely to look at but you can’t hear it falling when you’re cozy inside.
Love your artist’s board.
I’m late to this post, so I’ll echo everyone above me. That photo of your gram and her dog… LOVE THAT photo. Mucho. Mucho.
I hope you are well. I have those extra cards, but I am sending them out. (It’s been nutty here.) 😀
Your grandmother is a stunner!!!!!!!xoxo

Fantastic photo’s, the one of your grandmother with her dog, such classic beauty!
The last photo of your paint thing-a-ma-jiggy….sheesh, I can’t think of what it’s called 🙂 is a work of art too!
Just taking time to look at your lovely new post.

I have a wonderful photo of my beloved grandmother, an immigrant from Scotland who founded the St. Margaret of Scotland Guild in NYC. Every year they had a grand Ball with a procession lead by two children in full Scottish dress wearing huge jewels from Scotland. The children were chosen based on an essay they wrote about their Scottish heritage. They also had to present a report card showing their academic progress. You can imagine her great pride when one of her own grandchildren entered the competition and won. So the photo is very chubby tiny version of myself in full Scottish Regalia including a darling Tam O’Shanter perched on my head held fast with many bobby pins. I stand in front of her, next to my little male counterpart ( a boy and a girl were chosen each year..just to balance things out.) She is in a graceful ball gown with her hand proudly resting on my shoulder. What treasures our grandmothers are !!!!!
If you are sending out post cards, I would treaure one dearly. It could be sent to Kathleen Finkel, 106 Carriage Square Drive, Creve Coeur, MO 63141.
Isn’t that a romantic address ? Creve Coeur is broken heart and the tale is of a spurned Indian Princess and a waterfall, but I will save the tale for another rainy day. It is raining here in Broken Heart, also.
Hi sweetie! Your Grandma is GORGEOUS. My! A lovely woman.
Happy day to you! HONK!

Mamma mia!
Your grandmother is so utterly gorgeous. I’m a little speechless. xoxo
I am typing this comment from the desk that was my grandmother’s…an 1860’s bureau desk…it still smells like her too…spend all the time you can with her…I miss mine terribly.
catching up on my blog feeds… hehe! Oh my!! What lovely photographs of your grandmother… I love them (especially the one of her with the dog; its expresses such joie de verve, don’t you think?!). I was looking through some photos my mom had laying out the other day of her as a child and it was so nice to just look and ponder and think about my family and how much I really cherish them and these little tokens of times past (times I wasn’t even around for)! I cannot wait to see what other photo-goodies you post… I have quite an obsession with old images anyway. hehe!
I have to tell you: I simply adore the picture with the little dome of “mushrooms” under it! hehe! What a clever, creative idea!
And thank you for the sweet words: you certainly deserve MANY “You Make My Day” awards!!! 🙂 Am I too late for the little snail mail giveaway too??
Have a lovely, creative Wednesday, Vanessa!!
Miss Vanessa! Your grandmother is such a beautiful woman! I love grandmother stories…..and like yours my grandma cooked on a wood burning stove. She and my grandfather lived in a lovely farmhouse and she never wanted a new stove, she liked hers just fine! And she made the best homemade biscuits and chicken and….gotta stop, I have the flu and I’m making myself nauseous! 😉
I hope you enjoyed your rainy day….we’ve had quite of few of them here lately and I’m ready for some sun! I’m ready for SPRING!! I’m ready for bed….stupid flu…..
Such beautiful pics of your lovely Grandmamma!
I remember seeing a most amazing and beautiful dance piece werar the dancers posed as little bratty girls at there 1st communion. It was so funny and sweet and tender seeing the “behind the scenes “trouble those little girls got into! that pic brought back that memory!
I’m not here for your giveaway on this posting; I’m sure it’s well over with. I just wanted to comment on your rain. I live in the desert (Kingman, AZ) and we got RAIN too. Lots of wet, wonderful rain. I know somepeople get too much so they wouldn’t appreciate how good it is to have a rainy day. Yay for rain!
Hugs to you too Miss Vanessa! Your grandmother sounds like she would be fun to hang out with. What a beauty she is in those photos!!
Your grandmother is stunning, thank you for sharing such beautiful pictures of great memories. You are so thoughtful to be posting this about dear Corey, she is an inspiration and tower of strength to us all. You deserve the ‘make my day’ prize, I would have nominated you too 🙂
Liofe has been a bit hectic this past week ot so and I have not got round to reading some well loved blogs. SO it was such a treat to sit down with a cuppa and catch up…this post in particular really got me…I am a huge fan of old pictures of family…I have a display of my own in the ‘smallest room in the house’. The history and the love in this was fab. Oh why oh why with all this digital photography do photo’s just not have that look of those in days gone by…What a stunning women…
