Sunflower Days

Oh Sunflower days of September…

Sunflower summer 1 a

With crisp morning air and hot afternoon…

Sunflower summer 7

A familiar breeze filled with memories.

Of days gone by and new memories to be collected.

Sunflower summer 4

The buzzing of the bees, eating ripe tomatoes under the lemon tree…

Sunflower summer 12

My sweet sweet boy still here.

Sunflower summer 14

Drooping sunflower necks, secretly looking down at the pumpkins.

Sweet brown bread and tea in the shade.

With the lingering night air being soaked up by the hot sun rays.

Sunflower summer 13

Giant swallowtail butterflies…

Sunflower summer 2

Join me for tea and a chat.

Sunflower summer 15

The incredible magic of nature swirls all around.

Sunflower summer 5

A garden planted during the most stressful time has imparted the deepest kind of peace within my soul.

I searched for it madly in soil and seeds and then one day, it hugged me deep within.

And it told me, it's okay.

Even if it's not, it still is.

And somehow, I understood that and it comforted me beyond measure.

Sunflower summer 8

I've collected pumpkins, dreamed of grander trees and roses to come…

Marveled at stems…

Sunflower summer 9

Watched yellow belly finches feast on zinnias and sunflowers.

Danced in the rain as my little stream flowed again.

Hugged dogs madly.

And watched every flying creature sip water from my little birdbath.

Sunflower summer 10

And now sunflower season is coming to a close soon…

Sunflower summer 11

I will collect seeds and dreams, alike.

Sunflower summer 6

I sit, sipping my orange vanilla tea.

Thinking about all these things…

When all of a sudden, right behind Matty…

Sunflower summer 18

A hummingbird appears.

He knows she is there, but he is older and wiser and doesn't mind a birdling dancing about.

Sunflower summer 17

Sipping the nectar from wild verbena flowers.

Sunflower summer 16

The same verbena I took a cutting of from the river 20 years ago.

The same verbena that thrives in my gardens still.

Who knew it would be feeding the bees and hummingbirds all these years later.

It's the beautiful things such as these that bring me the greatest joy.

Sunflower summer 3

Just when I think my heart is full as can be…

There is natural bokeh coming through the trees.

Golden hour sun, shining through leaves like twinkle light orbs.

Only, nature's version.

Perfect for a sunflower song.

Hello September.

How did you get here so fast?

A new season will be upon us soon dear friends.

I am already shifting things around my house.

Filling oodles of delightful autumn orders in my shop.

I love sending folks parcels of joy.

Home never felt so good.

Matty and Miles are happy to get to play outside more in the evening breeze.

I can see the roses coming back to life, as autumn is always like a new spring around my neck of the woods.

The desert is green from a little much needed rain.

I'm chewing bubble gum that mom my sent me in the mail as I type.

I can't wait to collect garden findings for autumn decor.

How does September find you?

I'd love to know.

Be well, be safe <3

Lots of love,

Vanessa

oh your gardens! i love the vicarious thrills i get from seeing your gardens. i’m currently trying to decide if it is too early for me to bring out the halloween decor. probably not, but i may wait just a bit longer. your verbena reminds me of something i’ve been meaning to tell you. i don’t know if you remember, but back when i was in the little cottage, probably 7 or 8 years ago, you sent me some dried basil seed heads from your garden. i must not have planted it all as when i was going through my old seed box this past may i found some i still had that you had sent me. i planted them in a pot (as i grow everything in pots these days) and they are doing so good! i’m leaving them alone in hopes they’ll flower and i can save seeds and keep your magical basil growing in my garden. 🙂
    well enjoy your sunflower days.
    love & blessings

Oh my goooodness! I cant believe they worked after so long! That is truly wonderfully magical♡♡♡♡ you must take a pic & show ne🌿💫🌿

  3. I enjoy your garden posts so much, Vanessa! Our late summer is beautiful because we’ve had tons of rain here in Central Alabama. We’re expecting much cooler weather next week, but for the moment, I’m getting as much enjoyment as I can from roses, late blooming hydrangeas, and frilly summer things.
Autumn can wait…..at least until late next week!
BTW your last sunflower photo is so, so pretty!

  4. I love sunflowers! We had two suddenly spring up and they’re beautiful. The other day I was walking and went to look at them and there was a lovely little bee right on the edge. 🖤 That made me so happy!

The light has started to shift to Autumn here but the heat and dryness is still king. We were walking our pup the other night and admired a neighbors giant sunflowers they were harvesting and they gifted us one of the heads! My granddaughter just took it home to harvest the seeds to eat.Have started decorating the house for Halloween it makes me feel better.
