Summer Daze…

Summer is getting into its muchness, isn’t it?

Summer daze 3

Hot winds, tall green grass, tattered late roses.

Summer daze 10

Tea cupboards.

Summer daze 1

Billowing monsoon breezes.

If lucky, and only for a moment.

Like a tiny sip of water on thirstiest days.

Summer daze 11

Snuggling always.

Summer daze 4

Until.

Summer daze 9

We just can’t take the heat any longer.

Matty refuses to join in.

So, Miles and I are on our own.

Summer daze 12

My sister says I am in an autumnal outfit with witchy shoes.

Maybe my psyche needed a change?

Then it’s on to cool inside, playing with gold leaf.

Summer daze 6

Thinnest, fragilest sheets of gold goodness.

Summer daze 5

Twirling clay up.

Summer daze 7

Decoupaging oldest dictionary pages onto doll.

Summer daze 8

Working away in the studio.

So many little characters.

I can’t take too many photos or I will give it all away before they are even done.

But soon.

Very soon.

Oh and did I mention the outfits he doesn’t like?

Summer daze 2

He hated the hats me thinks 🙂

So, I am in a thorough summer daze.

How about you?

It has been hot here since early May, continuing until late October.

I am in the place where I have forgotten that other seasons exist.

Swirling in an orb of hot days and late nights.

Dreaming of fairy tales in hammock.

Wondering.

Pondering.

Hoping.

Wishing.

Dreaming some more.

Days pass by like stream water, quick and slow.

All at once.

I listen to the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra as I get on these dream waves.

I play this one on repeat on my Ipod.

On these droopy days of summer daze.

What’s happening out there in your neck of the woods?

I think it’s time for basil cake.

Don’t you?

Basil takes on a whole other world when sugar is added.

Ever tried a tiny sprig of sugar in your pesto?

I know.

Shocking, but something so good.

Ooooo!

Love, Vanessa

Sparkly heart

Yes yes- the muchness has begun. I am without AC & so… I don’t know how much more muchness I can stand. Oh- and you know I loves me an autumnal outfit with witchy shoes!!!

  2. Kristin says:

Well, it’s always hot here. And humid. Always humid. (Which is the worst of it). And this summer the grasshoppers have taken over. They’ll probably carry the house off to Wonderland by the end of the week. ;o)
CUTE doggie by the way. What a happy smile!
    Kristin

  3. Oh no!!! You must be melting to pieces, eeeeeeeeeeeks!! I hope it gets fixed asap xoxo

  4. Grasshopper Wonderland, oh my!!!!!!!! Are they huge or small?

  5. Cori G. says:

Oh! Oh! Oh! PLEASE please tell me what you are wearing, my Fancifil Friendling!! It looks like lovely sari fabric and then with the black gray stripe it looks a bit dirndle-ish. What ever it is please let me know :-))).
We are having the most dreadful heat and humidity. So much so that I am stuck in doors trying to sew, but even that is difficult to do with this heat!!! My wee cottage is situated so that the sun rises on the kitchen and sets on the living room. Oh foul heat! Be thouest gone!!!
I’ll bet some of your prickly pear lemonade would be perfect just about now :-)))).
    X’s & O’s

  6. Coricakes, it is a billowing skirt made of all matter of wonderful meshed
oddly fabrics, from, as you guessed, India!!
    xoxoxo

  7. Maryann says:

LOVE that music. Me thinks I’ll be listening to it 1,000 times over. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Oh yes…I am over summer and very ready for fall. Dresses, boots, tights, sweaters…
I’ve been away so very long, but I’m excited to see just how magical you continue to be! 🙂
Years ago, I was lucky enough to receive a doll friend from you so that she could live with me by the sea… Sadly, I had to move away from the sea and she was sad. So I passed her on to a little girl who hugged her so tight. I know she’ll be happy in her new home.

  9. I love this post! The skirt you are wearing is bliss! The music you have chosen is so enchanting and takes me away to Narnia’s snow scenes in the movie. I could almost feel the snow on my face.
It is hot here too, no relief in sight. Clouds were in the sky all day today, but not a drop of rain. I am thinking this is going to be a very, long, hot summer.
When the sun begins its journey back toward the southern end of the earth, I can feel a change, even though it is still summer, I can feel autumn in the air…I love it! It puts that creative spirit into my very being…I don’t know why it is, but I love this time of year because I know fall is just around the corner.
Can’t wait to see the lovelies you are creating!

  10. Love your outfit and your shoes, Vanessa! We have been having some wonderful weather here in Ohio. The humidity has been behaving itself this year. After two hot and humid summers the past couple of years, this summer has been a real pleasure. I hope it continues on through August!

  11. I love the shoes and stripy skirt! And your dog’s outfit, of course! He looks like an artist! I love the twirls in the dolls hair and your teacup collection! Magic!

  12. Janet Ghio says:

I love reading your blog andyour photos are wonderful!

  13. Miss Linda says:

Very strange weather here. Feels like fall one day and the next day it is 80…If that is the case with warm air then cold. With all that warm and cold air mixing…shouldn’t there be a tornado in my hallway? I do love fall but I am not ready for summer to end.
Matty looks lovely in his new duds…such a sweet boy letting you dress him.
I can’t wait to see what you are up to.
Hope you have a great week.

  14. Tina says:

It’s been 95 plus for days on end and my newly remodeled studio sits lonely…I think because it is too new..there is no character, no warmth. It will just take some time for it to meld. In between time, I garden my tiny potager and bake extra large blueberry muffins because, heat or not, I’ve just got to bake things!
And read!! You MUST read this book, “I Always Loved You”, by Ribin Oliveira!! It is a story about Mary Cassatt and Edgar Degas and it is simply wonderful and the pictures formed in the imagination as one reads…? The Paris studios…walking the streets…I don’t think you will regret having spent time reading it! I have halfway finished it and I just borrowed it from the library yesterday!
Other than swimming in the creek, it’s the best way to pass a it’s-too-hot-outside summer day!

  15. Cori Gagnier says:

It is pure perfection! I just adore all their beautiful clothing and fabric. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to dress like a princess each and every day? Love the witchycakes shoes too! ❤️❤️❤️

  16. Cori Gagnier says:

I knew it!! I just love all the beautiful fabrics from that area of the world! Wouldn’t it be wonderful to wake each and every day to put on princess attire? But then, me thinks you do…when you’re not running through your wild flowers in your jams :-))).

  17. Miss Linda, I would so feel how you do about fall if I had such cold
winters. Your winters are freeeezing, brrrrr 🙂 Warm months
are so plentiful here, most of the time its even hot on Halloween 🙂 But
sometimes we get a freeze for Halloween night, Arizona is so strange,
    haha!

  18. Jenn says:

Oooouuu can’t wait to see what comes of this gold leaf play 😉 And yes, the muchness is coming to an end for me as I have August off and can relax in… nothingness. Though I suppose the muchness will return by way of art and shopping and fun times! Looking forward to being done this semester!

  19. Oh Yes, Summer is into muchness here in central Florida too, but it seems you and Miles are dressed for the occasion, so cute ;-)!!
    Teresa,
    Sugar, spice and whatever’s nice

  20. Renee says:

Our weather is crazy, dry for days, then lots of rain, humidity, not as much heat as some days. Gathering things from the garden. Trying new recipes. Tried one for lemon zucchini bread that I added blueberries too. It has to be the best zucchini bread I’ve ever made.
Pin-basting Piper’s quilt. Yay it is almost ready to quilt. It is so colorful and has a nice cotton batting, makes me think she will love sleeping under it.
School is starting. My Olivia will be in 7th grade. How the heck did that happen?
Printing pictures to scrapbook because I am shamefully behind in everything.

  22. Marcia says:

Ooh, sugar on basil…must try…together with your pizza this weekend.
Summer is this Florida girl’s least favorite season, but I’ve learned to appreciate each a little more every year…never forgetting that my heart belongs to only one…a u t u m n. 😉
PS-One of my favorite film scores.

  23. marjorie says:

Oh yes yes, growing tired of summer here, as well…and feeling silly for doing so when I know how I will feel when I’m raking a forest of tree leaves away from our driveway, or in the blizzards to come…tee hee. Sugar in pesto no!! I’ve never tried…..I must see about that when next basil and I meet again…tee hee. Wishing you a merry afternoon there in your gypsy garden lands! : )
