I am feeling a bit better so I am scrapping the whining post below and moving on to lovelier things. No need to take you all down with me, right? Although, while in my bed, thinking, looking around at the room in this wonderful hidden space… I was presented with a finding. A package placed at the front door?
Oh yes, my Wish Tickets!!!! Anahata Katkin is one of my favorite creative creatures. She is inspiring and colorful. When I first decided to start blogging and showing my work virutally, I read this. Which, brought tears to my eyes. But it inspired and motivated every cell in my body. Receiving my, I hate to admit, first order, was incredible. I had forgotten about the postcards I ordered as well. May I just say, the whole packaging was so precious, it added to the thrill of the lovely purchase.
Even the lovely girl I spoke to on the phone to fix a small quirk was the sweetest! The postcards are magic! I adore them! And, as I was sitting, enjoying them, I had a huge realization.
You see, not only do I create art, but I have been a pretty hard core collector of art. All sizes from all kinds of places…All styles and mediums. But, this virtual art shopping experience is unlike anything I have ever experienced. And, today I found myself shocked. Shocked at the kind of work we are able to own through venues like Etsy. I was also shocked at the prices we are able to own these works at. Do we even realize how lucky we are? What amazing prices we can own these works at?
Or, how blogging takes us to fantastic artists and their own shops. Works that I long to own such as those of Lisa Congdon … Must plunge. I was walking around my room at the loftish space, just now, adoring the treasures I have acquired. This is such a special time for all of us. A time to embrace the treasures we can own. Never has there been a time where art has been so readily available through virtual venues, and where artists have been able to share their exquisities in such a manner, like today.
You cannot imagine what the original work of Emily, proprietress of The Black Apple, looks like in person(or maybe you can…). The color, the tints, the eyes, the dots…They have magic springing off of them in person…Yes, you see it on the screen, but in person!
And the unusual and wonderful dreaminess of an AshleyG print. Feeling the canvas she prints on. Delving into the richness of the pigment ink…How would I have ever known of her, if it was not for blogging and Etsy? And that she is about to have an amazing group show over at Artstream.
As I continued to tip-toe around the room I found my recent purchase from Stiletto Heights, which is incredible. It sits right in front of a wonderful Magic Jelly print, while awaiting wall placement.
Let's not forget my Stiletto Heights blocks which are, well, all I can say is I want more! They are addictive!
And, can you just get lost in the eerie fantasy of the MagicJelly creations?! I do. I adore my prints, especially the one below…I have shared it before, but it is just wonderful, isn't it???
My first Etsy purchases were the 3 below. I was swept away with Jennifer Kerr's work. They are intriguing and fabulous! I adore them to pieces, and I must say, Jennifer Kerr is pretty easy to adore herself…Such a real and heartwarming girl!
And what ever would I do without my wee lamb (and pigeon, the owl)?? Miss Foxling, the love herself, sweet and insightful…Well, she creates treats for girls and boys of all ages, especially those like me, who refuse to grow up….
I know what you are thinking? I should be punished, or locked up and forced to wear a little white wrap around coat. Heeeeee… But really, the point is, take the plunge! I have barely hit the tip of the wonderful creative people out there! There are thousands of them, all waiting for you to take home a treasure that will make you swoon! I feel so lucky to be able to own these pieces, and hope to share more of my art collecting and creative people. For now, I think I have worn off that surge of energy a person gets when they have been stuck in bed sick for too many days….
The current secret is…..I await the arrival of…an Art and Ghosts order….a mixture of fantasy and dream-states, sometimes, even nightmare-states…
See you as soon as I am 100%! Thanks for your lovely encouragement and sickless wishes!!!

first…I couldn’t even finish reading this before I went off to the Papaya web site and ordered some post cards….I am so bad….
ok second, thank you for writing about me…I feel so good to be a part of the group of people you mentioned, really it made my eyes well up a bit with tears.
love you 2 bits
oh, and art and ghosts…Love her, I am her mentor on etsy and I got a wonderful surprise in the mail from her today…you will die, so cool!
In a list of people who are entirely too sweet to me, you make the top 10! Thank you for being such a wonderful friend! I envy your fine collection!
I could not agree with you more! I’ve only recently started acquiring treasures from etsy (after seeing yet another post full of wonderful things over at Inside A Black Apple!) and I’m so amazed at the new world of things I’m finding. It’s not good for my pocketbook, but I love it anyway. Also, I’m a big fan of tinyshowcase.com, for the diversity they have and for their endeavor to make art affordable to everyone. And I have to say, I love all your photos and the still lifes–the bookcase, the typewriter! You must have the best little nest!
Oh, I’m so sorry you were feeling ill…I was right there with you, and now as I look around, all I see is piles and piles of chocolate from the holiday…really, more than one girl could possibly eat!
I am loving your collections, and I can’t wait to really sit and look at all of the links at length…but, yawn, I must retire, so that I may stay a little healthy!
xoxoxoxo
It is so refreshing to see all this beautiful artwork as it is being used in real life. You have expressed the importance of owning artwork so well and you are inspiring. Been thinking about you a lot lately – my Mom and Dad are in Arizona and call me every day in awe of the beauty down there. Hope you feel better soon!
beutiful things…Etsy is addictive! but its great to support creative people!
I love Anahata’s blog & art…she was teaching at Artfest last week – if only I was closer….
Your blog is so colourful, inspirational ..and a joy to read.
It’s so true! I just purchased the most amazing painting on Etsy and I can’t wait for it to arrive. This artist was so amazing, his work so beautiful it took my breath away. And so I bought a print of one of his paintings for like $15. Unbelieveable.
Oh Vanessa – I have been a bit behind with blogging and blog reading and to hear you were ill!!! I do hope you are recovered.
And this post – well you have just articulated everything I have been feeling about art, etsy, creating, dreaming and being inspired. The bio of anahata is incredible and thank you so much for highlighting it. I am beginning to feel the germination of the desire to ‘do more’ with my art and I have to say it is all down to this incredible internet worlds we have access to – etsy, inpirational bloggers and artists. And there is also the other side of the coin – the ability to have access to a venue to show your work – an opportunity I have not had before – gosh we are lucky – in so many ways!!
Your collection is stunning – and I have get over my fear of poverty and start living! To have those things around you – well it must feed the soul!!! Thank you for showing me this!
The art from your collection is fantastic – and how nice of you to give these artists a boost. You’re absolutely right about being lucky to own art at affordable prices now – in future, no doubt they’ll spiral into the stratosphere. xo
Lovely art collection you have there. Of course I love Stilettoheights work but I’m also coming around to some of the others you featured as well. I loved seeing them all on display in your loftish space!
