Random Thoughts…

I think I stayed at the bloglandia ball a few days too long.  I am soooo tired, I wore the soles off of my shoes dancing.  My house guests are gone, and I have been roaming outside, devouring the lovely change of weather.  The yard feels so romantic and mysterious these days…

Oh, and I have been having tea with John Galliano.  Oh, okay, you caught me in a white lie…  But, I really do need his fall collection.  The whole collection.  Maryam said, this is so you, and I said, you are so right on! Just look at the borrowed photo below.  (style.com)

I could so use her doll as well.  Remember I told you Mr. Lovee had convinced me on a gift, one blue melancholic Sunday?  Well, here you have it. An antique baby carriage.  No, don’t worry, I have no announcements. No babies for this girl.  But, I do love the carriage for all of my dolls.  I still have all of my childhood dolls in a giant trunk that travelled on the Mauretania, one way,  from New York to Paris (obviously it then came back to me here).

I am having such a hard time getting back into the swing of things.  I have been working a bit more than expected at my real job (thank goodness I am self employed, it makes life so much easier, as my life can get pretty kookie sometimes).  And, I have been shopping.  While Mr. Lovee was away for several days, I dragged home a treasure.  I will share it soon.  Boy, am I in trouble (or so I think)…

My days have consisted of tea with my dearest friend, early in the morning, working, packaging, cleaning, raking acreage, and the list never ends does it?  Do you feel the same way??  While my one friend was here, we talked until we were slurring our words, late at night,  and then simply fell asleep in mid conversation.  Girlfriends are the bestest of the best!!  I will have more guests soon.  Then the 6th annual Witches party.

I have also been a naughty girl visiting every Halloween place in town.  Here are two bad camera phone photos.  But, the Martha Stewart Halloween treasures at Michael’s are just awesome! (click photo to enlarge).

I have been shopping a little much and just look at all the treasures I brought home.  Yipppeeee!!!

I know, exciting, exciting!  You should come over and create with me! What would you make first?  Oh, and I can’t forget to ask you, hasn’t the moon been unreal????

Img_9375

Our sky did something amazing this afternoon. Look at this, totally unaltered photo…

I wanted to have the scarecrow finished by the time Mr.  Lovee got back, but no luck.  I was not fast enough…  Tonight, baby (she came with that name, I am not some insane chic)  and I contemplated how to get the giant bale over to the other side of the yard… (while I decided to sip a Pumpkin Ale that I had left over from a gift basket I made.  Pretty okay for a non-beer drinker)

Img_9452

Then we gave up… We’ll ask Mr. Lovee for help tomorrow, when he is not so tired. Although, I am way to stubborn to ask for help… Hmmmm.

I went inside & decided to frame a print from my extraordinarily talented friend, Marjorie,  a fellow cottage industry proprietress.  She is MarmeeCraft.  Her work is just unreal, whimsical and Victorian and sublime.

Img_9464

This print is titled, "Halloween Party" and is a limited edition. Don’t you love it?? (my pictures are a bit dark, as night fell quickly this evening…)

Well, off I go.  My body clock is so messed up.  I have been waking up ten to 5:00 a.m. every day for 2 weeks now.  So, 9 p.m. rolls around and I have had it, I need toothpicks to hold my eyelids open.  See you soon!!  Life is almost back to normal & I am making special time to visit all of you, my dear Bloglandia friends!  Your visits are more than inspiring. xoxoxoxo

  1. Debbie says:

Love the dreamy fashion image you posted! Always fun to visit your blog!!!

  2. Ky Eliza says:

I love your Halloween Marmee print, and your batty-Halloween print. I toyed with getting both, but have maxed out my current spending on a Black Apple original.
Can’t wait to see your Witches Ball pictures!

  3. Kim says:

Oh I DO like your blog. I check it every day to see if you’ve posted and I’m just delighted every time I read a new post.
I, too keep waking up at 5 AM. I’ve always been an early to bed , early to rise person but the older I get the earlier I keep waking. And, yes… at 9 PM I’ve had it. I’m known for being a big fuddy duddy because I can’t stay out past 10 PM… must be home in my jim-jams.

  4. Les says:

Vanessa, such a great post again. After being away for a while there is always so much to read and watch at you weblog. I love it! I love the moon pictures. The moon is really beautiful here as well but we can’t see it that much because it’s so cloudy in the Netherlands… I would love to come over and craft with the halloween stuff you bought! So great! And I’m so exited, here in Holland we do not celebrate Halloween but my best friend and I were invited to a Halloween party! My first one! YEEEEY! But now I really have to think what to were… My friend and I want to dress up together… still thinking of a costume, I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful idea hehe! xxxxxx Have a nice weekend!!!!!!

  5. you know it was the Martha Stewart Halloween stuff at Michaels that made me go on a very long winded rant to my bubs about how Martha Stewart is just “better than we are”…I think by then end I had him almost convinced.

  6. Jackie says:

I love reading your posts!! Your so cool!

  7. rochambeau says:

Your new art is sublime! Can’t wait to meet your Scarecrow and see what your wear to the Halloween Ball! Yup, MS stuff is so cool.

  8. flutter says:

hasn’t the weather been divine? I think I am having Martha envy…

  9. Paris Parfait says:

You have been a busy girl! Yes that Galliano collection is YOU! Come see the mandolin I found at a brocante. No I didn’t buy it – but if you want it, I can inquire. Oh and you’d love all the doll things – they have a doll hospital there. Will try to photograph it next visit. I’ll be going back Monday. xoxox

  10. Eileen Weigand says:

Interestingly enough I brought a pumpkin spice beer to a cookout last night. Everyone enjoyed it, however I spilled mine. 🙁 Not even drunk, just a lumpy picnic table.
The Martha finds are inspiring as well as your outdoor photos- the moon especially! Good luck with your special find and Mr. Lovee- I’ve been there. 🙂 Oh, and I’m looking forward to your scarecrow creation. 😀

  11. Beth says:

Oh my god! I LOVE John Galliano’s fall collection! It’s gorgeous! And pumpkin ale is fabulous! 🙂

  12. Sarah says:

Baby seems to be looking at that beer wondering if she can figure out how to drink it for herself!

  13. oh, your dollies definitely deserve that carriage. love that! great idea, mr. lovee.
i know what you mean about the list never ending. i keep adding more things to it, just to make sure it never ends. i’m insane, i say i want more free time but i always think of ways to fill it so it isn’t free time at all. if my list ended i would have more time for those martha stewart crafts. i got some of her letters, but they are still unwrapped in their little plastic packages. guess i need to put martha on my list.
so glad i came today. i am always glad i visited, but today i am especially glad because i thought of adding martha to my list. that is such a revelation to me.
notice my lack of caps here, you can type so fast when you leave off the caps…
    xo,
    melissa

  14. sadira says:

The moon has been incredible…from what I’ve seen, it was quite overcast and gray yesterday up here (a welcome change in the weather) I am off today to find decorations and little embellishments for my annual Halloween cards…sigh. I love this time of year!

  15. eb says:

that pink sky is on loan
    just for you from me…
I am loaning it to you
and when you are done with it…

  34. Catherine says:

I can’t wait to see your scarecrow! The full moon was amazing this week. Here in Scotland the moon was so bright I thought a neighbour had left an outdoor light on! I pulled back the blind and looked out to an amazing sight. I had found myself unable to sleep for a few days before the Harvest Moon, wonder if that is why….(howls at moon!)x

  35. Nancy says:

Hi Miss Vanessa! LOVE the Galliano collection…so pretty and vintage looking. And of course the doll is must have for your new carriage!
I saw a quote the other day that made me LOL…it was, “I love children, I just don’t think I could eat a whole one”. 😉
Your sky was absolutely beautiful! We don’t get sunsets like that out here. Enjoy your cooler weather and I can’t wait to see photos of Mr. Scarecrow…I can only wonder what a Vanessa Valencia scarecrow will look like with your amazing imagination and talent!

  36. Sonya says:

You dancing fool, you are getting me in the mood for All Hallows Eve. Fall is coming slowly here, summer doesn’t seem to want to be done yet. And mademoiselle, that baby carriage? Amazing.

  37. it looks everyone had a blast with the bloglandia ball! I love your antique baby carriage! gorgeous…

  38. That doll! That doll carriage! Bliss…drool! I love all your craft stuff, too – I wish Micheal’s would come to Montreal. I love all your outdoor shots – it looks like you live in a beautiful place. And I hear you about fall being a relief – it was so muggy here for months and yesterday was beautifully crisp, fall leaves covering the ground – I was skipping through them and kicking them (and almost pulled a muscle – ahem.)

  39. Hello sweet friend! We are on the same page,I have been drooling over those Galliano pics for months!!! …and yet…
I feel drawn to a different look for Fall…That baby carriage, yowza!!! Love it!!! Finally it is October and I will let the decorating commence!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!
Loving Marjorie too, just recently “met” her.

  40. rochelle says:

Fellow Texan here. Met your cute friend, Connie, at Canton this weekend.
The other night, my little 4 year-old saw that sunset and said, “Mom, God is burning a candle in the sky.”

  41. Erin Earls says:

What a great collection, I love the 1920’s kind of Flapper look! But I think I was born to late. I should have been born in the 20 or 40’s. That Buggy is just the cutest. A great place for a doll collection. Beautiful SKY! It has been all gray here! With lots of rain and fog.(I love the fog!) Oh and I love the Martha S. line. So many neat things.
    Love Erin~

  42. cruststation says:

I love the photo from your yard, so mysterious and dreamy. Isn’t Mr. Lovee great to have brought you an antique pram? It’s SOo Scarlett O’Hara! Sounds like you had a fabulous time with your bestest friend, how I wish I could join you in your tea-drinking parties, and create Halloween goodies 🙂 Amazing sky shots, the purples/reds and oranges is unreal.

  43. Cre8Tiva says:

wow…so many people beat me here today…i have been in the studio creating all morning…this afternoon i have to start the next mag…too much to do this month…and on top of it all i decided to do a full-out retreat posting every day on my blog…am i nuts???? but, of course…lovely things and images…get some sleep…blessings, rebecca

  44. Tricia says:

Girlfriend, i hear ya on the toothpicks (to keep eyes open)!!!! My puppy Lulu Belle is keeping me tres busy!!! Did you see her picture on my blog? She is a pretty girl, and very hyper right now, she is so excited being in a new home and being naughty but oh so adorable!
Now on to the subject of Hallowe’en! I think you should make a really creepy looking baby and put in in the new carriage which by the way, is so cool! Think Rosemary’s Baby! Also, buy some dry ice and when you serve your Witches’ brew put the dry ice in a big caldron, then the pot with the brew on top so that it will look spooky and foggy! I will let you know if i think of other ideas!

  45. Dees says:

That baby carriage is sooooo beautiful.I wish I could help out with the doll V,but I don’t see myself ever making them again. It was more therapy than craft as you know. But there are so many other beautiful dolls out there just waiting to have a ride in that pram!!!hugs and thank you dearie!
    xoxo

  46. Tricia says:

oh, i wonder where you could buy dry ice? Miss V, how i wish i could spend Hallowe’en with you at your place!
    sigh…will you have candy apples?

  47. Oh my…how is that I missed you at the Bloglandia Ball? Perusing the net and found you thanks to your amazing banner art, it popped out at me and invited me in. Beautiful blog! If it is ok, I’d like to link you for many, many happy returns. I believe I am now hooked!

  48. lisa! says:

uh oh vanessa! i’ve found a divergence in our sameness…i am spooked by old baby carriages. also, old wheelchairs. but for a good, creepy tableau, i would put these 2 things together and celebrate the season!
    xxoo bella!

  49. Gillian says:

Oh yes! That Galliano collection is definitely ‘you’ and definitely ‘me’ I am thinking of taking lots of inspiration from it for some sewing up of dresses – I have the stockings, the bloomers and I would die for those shoes. The make-up? Perhaps just a little OTT for daywear but by the light of the moon!!!! Well it could work couldn’t it??!!
