Painting, Painting, Painting….

I am in a dreamscape.  One of my very favorite places to escape to, deep in the depths of my being, in a little world of its own.   Alone, creating…  Music, characters, paint, self, places, experiences and bundles of emotion pouring out at full speed…  Ideas swirling around like magical sparkles, twirling around me…

In the studio 1

Who knows if the paint brush will be able to capture that which I am trying to convey.  But the experience alone (of creating), is adrenaline packed, and what I live for.

I just wanted to pop in and say, Hey there ;)  And maybe open the little tiny peep hole door in my front door, see your smiling face, and let you peek in, while offering you a parcel of goodies, and saying - New creations to come sooner than soon.  In a day or two (or less)…

In the studio 2

When I create, I have to disappear a little (and we had a guest).  But, when I realized I had not said hi for many days, I thought it prudent to poke my head in, wave and smile!!

I had to pry myself away from my constant companion…  My trusty, can't live without, Da Vinci Maestro Kolinsky.  When I am really good, I might find a gifted one, left by the Mr. Lovee Fairy ;)  He can be counted on for good art supplies.  And, I need replacement brushes often…

In the studio 4

When I am working on an art piece, I can only listen to music.  And it plays non-stop. My poor lil' Ipod ;)  It is so confused packed with 80's and folk and classical and soundtracks and dance and, well, you can imagine…   I bet yours is wacky like that too?  Late at night, I might even get in a dance mood with Hercules and Love Affair.

But, when I paint characters, I like to listen to This American Life or movies.  I listened to 5 episodes last night…  Current fave viewing/listening to flicks are –  Art City (I liked disc 3 the best), Paul Klee: The silence of the angel (the intro music gets me).  I looove Pete Seeger (The power of song), and I have seen Eugene O'Neill (a PBS documentary) 3 times.  Another repeat watch is The Eternal Children.  (If you haven't seen it, you will get to see a bit of Antony Hegarty, CocoRosie, Devendra Banhart & Vashti Bunyan)  I adore part 5.  And, I love repeat.

For some reason, I love watching this little Prada Party with CocoRosie clip too…

Anyhow, see, get me talking and I lose track… Must get back to work for now…

I'll pick a name out of the hat and announce it in the next post for the stocking

Before I go, on a random note, my sis (did you see her eyelashes???) and I had quite the laugh the other evening.  I told her I was going to change my middle name.  And I had to come up with another A name, since my middle name starts with an A.  I don't dislike my middle name.  I just thought a change could be amusing…

So, there we are having the most pointless silly conversation…  And I suggested Almond.  She flinched.

Then I exclaimed, Amaretto!!!  Like it was the best idea in the world.  And she says, umm, more like Amacrazy.  Hee hee!  Then I said Augustia.  And she said, Angustia (which in espanol means, anguish/anxiety/distress).  So, I am at a loss…

Maybe I should leave the topic (and name) alone…  ;) 😉

Can you think of a  favorite or interesting "A"name?

With that question, I am off for now….  See you soon!

🖤, V

I am cuddled in bed with apple juice and tissue – all courtesy of my 2nd graders….a cold. So peeking into your colorful, free, creative window was medicine for my achey soul. Thank you for letting me visit! : )

    ~Barb~

  4. Hey Miss Vanessa,
Is your “A” name so difficult to figure out?
It’s always been AMAZING! Am I wrong?
    ~ Gabriela ~

  5. Stampinmom says:

These links and referrals you have are really cool. I am going to check them out. My iPod is a mish-mash and that’s how I like it! I must have something for every mood! And you’re right–sometimes when one has to paint something more representative and detailed, the spoken word is best. And This American Life is good, or one of the crafty podcasts, or one of a dozen others.
    Angelica?
Apnea (producing a sharp intake of breath because of breathlessness..)?
    Almondine?
    Areola?
    Arrondisement?

  7. Chris says:

Did you get my comment? I had some A ideas… But then I got this odd feeling that I didn’t post it correctly.
ah… technology and the tired mind…

  8. pasha plum says:

Azalea–my daughter’s name but if you like you can use it 🙂

  9. Martha says:

Do I see little elfin heads!!! Oh noooooooooo ~ I’ll be in trouble if I do!!
Ann is my middle name. No e or anything. I know you said interesting *A* name, but I am only good for the plain one tonight!
    Take Care! 🖤

  10. shibori girl says:

Dearest Miss Vee, your studio is a delicious mess of color and texture. Do you ever lose yourself? Silly question, of course, you must, but in the FUN way! 🙂
    Love your crazy music choices!!!
    xoxo,
    Kate

  11. sadira says:

I love that you play different musical selections for each thing you do…it’s just the way it has to be, doesn’t it?
My sister’s middle name is Amelia. I think that A name is lovely…

  12. Amarcord – after Fellini’s final, great film. For you are the one blog friend out of all the many, whose life may mimic a Fellini film. The word means, “I remember” – and that could be fitting for you, as you bring characters to life and remember who they are and what they are all about. And, no one could ever forget you.

  13. Tracie says:

Anastasia….it’s poetic and beautiful, like you! Thank you for another peek at your studio…

  14. Chrissi says:

Just “Angel”…. You dear sweet little angelic person you…

  15. My grandmother’s name was Alice…and your life does sometimes seem like Alice’s Wonderland.
You know that door with the paint all over it is a work of art all by itself?!

  16. stephanie says:

oh all those colors! and Paints! AND all the great YouTube’s…how do you find these!!

  17. KRiSTa says:

An ‘A’ middle name..I love ‘Annabelle’.
    Lighthearted, carefree, and sweet too.

  18. Almond!?? I am in a fit of giggles:):):) You cute thing. Have a yummy, fun filled Thanksgiving Vanessa A. Valencia!!
    xoxox…jenn

  19. Karen says:

    Hey!
This is my very first post!…when I read you always have a DaVinci Kolinsky brush in hand…I knew I had to put mine down and say hello!
Keep up the good work, it’s beautiful!!
    Karen :0)

  20. chelsea Ann says:

I am going to name my first daughter Annalea. It will be pronounced Annalee. But i like the more girly spelling and it makes the name very versatile. Ann Anna, Annie, Lea, Lee, Annalee or Annalea. My sister says it is a hick name! And that she wont call my child that but I don’t care. I agree the middle name Fey does make it a little hick like but adorable to me none the less. And besides my grandmothers middle name if Fey and almost everyone in my family has the middle name Ann. And my husbands mother and grandmothers are both Ann’s – So I think it is the perfect name.

  21. Well, I would have to say Alice as that is my name 🙂 and it seems perfectly apt for you in your beautiful Wonderland!

  22. Madeline says:

I love the way painters palletes look… Happy Thanksgiving!
And as for A names… Alice is nice.

  23. I go through brushes like crazy too…. When my hubby and I were planning names for number 3 and going back and forth… I bust out of the blue with.. .Cola!!
He looked at me like I was wacked.. and I was, but at the time, it was the funniest thing I ever heard.. so rock on Amaretto!

  24. i cant sew says:

interesting to see part of your workshop/studio. great colours!

  30. phyllis says:

Aqua-netta…my friend thought of it in high school on a trip.
I was babysitting a 1 1/2 yr. old girl last night and put the earbuds to our ipod in her hands…she heard the sound and put them up near her ears…you should have seen the eureka look on her face! She was SO overjoyed!

  31. Betzie says:

    Oh my…a name quiz…
I think(IMHO)you should stick with a middle name that starts with an A and ends with an A…like your first and last names…tres chic sounding…
    Such as…
    Vanessa Anna Valencia(simple)
    Vanessa Allegria Valencia(musical sounding)
Vanessa Angelina Valencia(you will have many children)
    Vanessa Artista Valencia
Vanessa Alexandra Valencia(a bit hoity toity)
Vanessa Anastasia Valencia(a lot to write)
    Vanessa Adriana(pretty I think)
Vanessa Allegra(means lively, cheerful in Italian…so you!)
Vanessa Anjelica(pretty too…and I like this spelling..but that nasty Rugrat girl was named this…too bad!)
    Vanessa Annabella…
Love A names…I named one of my boy dog’s “Adonis”…:)
Have fun V!!! I think your name is perfect as it is!

  32. Tecu'Mish says:

    How about Angelina?

  33. Emily Anne says:

I forgot to tell you I tagged you on my blog too. xoxo Em

  34. Ariane says:

Well, I’m partial to my first and middle names which begin with “A”: Ariane Antonia. What is your middle name? It’s probably not as bad as you think. I used to hate my name when I was kid especially because it was different and people have a hard time pronouncing it. But that’s now the reason I like it because it is different. Although occasionally I will hear someone with my name or Ariana, which always blessedly surprises me.

  35. I loved a Paul Klee exhibit I saw at the MOMA way back in the late 80’s and still love his style.
Humm an “A” name how about Alexis, Alice, or Anne or if you have a headache you could be Asprin!! He HE
I am trying to get up my Etsy site and boy what a pain since I am not good at tech stuff! I have to have my hubby take care of the Paypal part, I was spinning my head around on that one!! I hope it gets easier as I do it, I am just not tech inclined!

  36. Casey says:

Wow! No one has suggested Amy, which is my middle name. There’s also Aimee (French for friend and thus seems very appropriate for you)!
I haven’t fallen off the side of the earth, but living in Washington, DC and working for the federal government I got wrapped up in the election!!! According to various news stories we may have upwards of 4 million people coming to town for the Inuaguration! Unfortunately I only have one sofa bed for visitors and I already have someone sleeping in it.

  37. Jorgelina says:

    Lindo estudio!!!
    Se me ocurren dos nombres”Amapola”
    y “Alegria”
    Un beso y buena semana

  38. Oh! If we had a girl, she was going to be Adelaide. i just adore that name. so old.

  39. I kind of like Almond for a middle name! (even though I think they are some of the worst nuts out there, right after walnuts~yuck).

  40. Alberta says:

    I vote for…..Alberta (of course!)

  41. Alice says:

Oh, I like “Angustia” ever so much! But maybe that’s just because it sort of fits me…I feel like your new middle name would need to be much more joyful!

  42. jennlui says:

oh my! oh wow! i always love love love it when you post pictures of your painting areas… always so vivid with color and texture, paint everywhere, brushes and tubes sprawled all over the place!!! thank you for sharing this!!! fun fun fun! i absolutely can’t wait to see what will pop into your fabulous shop!!!

    Kris
    Happy Thanksgiving!!!

  48. Kelly says:

As usual, your stories delight & inspire~
I have an “A” name that you can borrow…it’s “Arijonia”….it’s part of a little story I made awhile back.
    Well, happy painting sista!

  49. Yoli says:

I love seeing all your paints scattered about, the canvas. It all takes me back to my childhood and my uncle. Can’t wait to see what will emerge from your beautiful mind.

  50. Happy painting.
    Lovely colours.

  51. Lavender Dreamer says:

It’s wonderful to have a burst of artistic energy. I love the name Adara Lina. Very mysterious, I think!

  52. I’ve always loved honey bee en Francais,
    Abeille.

  54. Donna says:

Amelia? Abelene? Annalyse? Angora? =) Antonia? Acorn? =)

  55. Kandes Lee says:

One of my new twin nieces is named Annika … which I always loved because of Pipi Longstocking. And I think Ariadne is an good “A” name. What is your middle name now? I did not see that you mentioned it.

  56. Tiffany says:

Ooo Miss V… I am always amused by your antics and I love the thought of a new middle name. I am one for new names, When I got serious about making crafts/art I did one of those name generators (the gaelic/fae one) and when my name came up it was perfect Rowan Willow Nightwind (the Nightwind was the funny part, I tend to be gassy). You can always try that or I have a suggestions, my (and my youngest daughter) have the name Aleah (given to me by my brother when he was 4, weird I know!). It has been very inspirational and I named my business after it also ~Aleah’s Treasures~ sounds risque huh?!? but it’s not panties and erotic oils (not yet anyway :0) jk). Hope you find that perfect name, I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
    Take care sweetie,
    Rowan Willow {alter/ artist ego}
    aka Tiffany

  57. Not sure whether anyone has said this yet or whether you have long ago decided but the most perfectly perfect middle name for you would be *****Amaryllis***** which means to Sparkle***** And doesn’t it just remind you of butterflies and fairies and beautiful flowers??
    Kiss Noises
    to you Vanessa Amaryllis Valencia
    from Linda Lilly Cottage

The content you have provided is pretty interesting and useful.
Today while I was surfing the Internet, I read about Gel Nails being the latest trend now in the nail fashion industry.
I thought this information might be useful for anyone looking for genuine nail decoration stuff and may not know where to buy them from.
