Can I call myself Miss Fanciful? I open e-mails so often that say, "Hello Miss Fanciful," that I am beginning to forget my real name. Speaking of e-mails, I opened an e-mail a few days ago with some really fun news. Issue 13 of Carpal Tunnel Magazine just came out. It is full of wonderful treasures, and there happens to be a little piece about me in the art section.
Can you spot "The Siren's Sojourn" in the above photo montage? Angel D'Amico is the creator of Carpal Tunnel Mag. She is an amazing person. Quite the artist. I own one of her handbags, which is incredible. Check out her site at http://www.angeldamico.com/.
So, that is a good bit of excitement for little ole me. As for where I have been. I have been doing some major cleaning. Vacuuming more dust than any girl should have anywhere near her. Mr. Lovee built me a second workbench, so that made some rearranging happen. I also spent a whole day at my friend Carolyn's home. She fed me the most delicious shrimp dish and then dessert and hard core Russian coffee. Then dessert again and turkish delight.
What a wonderful day I had with Carolyn. We played dress up and laughed so hard we both were doubled over in laughter fits… Going to my friend Carolyn's meant that I had to comb my hair for once this summer. I have been walking around with overgrown haggalicious weeds. I think Mr. Lovee had forgotten me. He saw me with my hair tied back and was like, "well well, don't you look lovely." He is like a debonair sitcom guy. Too funny….
Oh no!! Caught in whipped cream action! I have also been spending some much needed time in this plaza. You see, for many many years, there was no such plaza anywhere near Catalina. But, just last year we got… A grocery store, a coffee shop, Subway, and………
YAY! Blockbuster. Literally 3 minutes down the street (by car of course). Seems so weird to have such amenities in the middle of nowhere. Although, our little village is rapidly becoming a suburb, YIKES! At first I rebelled against the new plaza. But, I have to admit, it is pretty darn convenient.
Oh, I also discovered the Catalina library. Which by the way, has movies!!! Which you can check out for free. Did you hear that? Free. You must go to the library, it is wonderful. I had not been to the library in 15+ years. I am overjoyed.
See you in a few days! I still have treasure secrets to share!!!

Hi Mrs Cupcake. You look beautiful, the bits and pieces we see of you 🙂 Congratulations with the magazine 🙂
Hi Mrs Cupcake. You look beautiful, the bits and pieces we see of you 🙂 Congratulations with the magazine 🙂

Congratulations on your magazine feature, so interesting and very ‘deep’ 🙂 Hooray for shopping, eating desserts and hanging out with friends.
Now how’d you do that last picture with the overlay??? Fanciful tricks around here today…
Yes, congrats on that magazine write-up! You are famous! And oh so pretty…not a day over 17.
You got a plaza? We got an enormous Sam’s and here we are out in the sticks and people from town are driving waaaay over here to shop.
You look so bright eyed and lovely in the last picture. Congrats on the magazine, I’m not surprised, you so deserve it!
Congrats on bing featured in that cool magazine! Glad you had some fun with Ms. Turkish delight! Did she really get you to you combed your hair? really? do you think you could pass me the brush now? 😉
Love the library too. Old books are filled with so much inspiration! They also have books on cd and tape.
Hey Miss Fanciful Fungi Cupcake girl! looks like you had some well deserved fun! Good for you! Can’;t wait to see what treasues you bring forth! kiss kiss hug hug!!!
You see when you have naturally curly hair, the LAST thing you want to do is comb or brush your hair(except after washing, then just with fingers)!I loved your interview, and LOVED that online zine,I must dig into their archives! Libraries are part of our weekly life at the Pagoda, but then with wee ones, its important + I love vintage crafty books!
Congrats! How cool is that to be in a fun magazine! Except that it really bothers me that the girl overlayed has her foot in exactly the wrong place! MOVE her foot! I can’t see the sojurn! Luckily I already know how beautiful she is. Happy you are having fun, looks wonderful!
Congratulations on the wonderful feature, Miss F.!
hahahahah, I have the real Siren..Not to be a brag or anything, but she is right here reading this as I type.
I am so glad I know someone else who doesn’t brush their hair. It just takes so much time!!
Congratulations on the article….soon you will be too famous for me to afford your beautiful work. But that is OK, I’ll then just jet off to The Louvre to see your latest pieces!
To the above poster who has the original Siren…you are indeed a lucky gal! My wonderful original “Mime’s Daughters” will be here oh so soon…I’m so happy!! 🙂
Darling Vanessa, how is it that you look different (but always wonderful) in every single photo you take? As for your work being featured in the magazine, I’m not surprised. No doubt you will be featured in many, many more to come, as your work is so original and fanciful – and we all need fanciful, otherwise life can quickly become as dull as dishwater. Jordana and I have been making the rounds of the big Paris department stores today. Of course there were shoes involved! And handbags of supple blue-grey suede that proved irresistible. And now we have neither energy nor money left. 🙂 xoxox
Being with friends and laughing until it hurts is the BEST!!! How wonderful that you are featured in a magazine! Not surprising, but wonderful.(you are very talented!) I have never had Turkish Delight, but I am rereading the Conicals of Narnia, and now want to try some. The library is the BEST. 🙂
love Erin~
wonderful article of the illustrious Ms Fanciful! and great magazine, will have to go back and read some more.
Lovely cupcake queen photo collage….
oh I miss blockbuster… but we do have subway on base and there a bunch of burgerkings and mcdonalds here in Germany… that is so cool about that magazine… I want that magazine! thank you for coming by again… your just so cool! doesnt my lace making video make your fingers hurt? 🙂
Oh lovely Miss Vanessa…..I read your wonderful feature article!! How lovely! You must be over the moon with excitement! 🙂 I hope you enjoyed the Sleepy Hollow rewatch…I certainly did! : ) And thank you so so so much for your ever sweet and supportive comments about my new painting and blog in general….you are lovely!
Isn’t it amazing how a lovely sky and mass of magical cloudlings can make a humdrum strip mall seem ever so much more tolerable!?
Oh how I love stopping in here! 🙂
congrats on the magazine feature!!! Woo Hoo!!! And I love seeing photos of you, you are so beautiful!!!!
Okay, I won’t say article – shmarticle. LOL! That feature is pretty darn cool!!!
Soon I’ll be able to say, “I knew her when”. You know, when she didn’t comb her hair. After all, you know women are judged to be successful by their hair. Just look at Jennifer Anniston and Cher. Now there’s talent. C’mon what are you waiting for!Where’s that curling iron!!
XO- Congrats to you!!! You know what a fan I am
You need netflix Miss Fanciful. Then, you’d only have to walk to the mailbox. 🙂 Congratulations! on the inclusion in the maggie! Another feather for your cap (already full of plumage I might add)! 🙂
Oh Lady V, i am so sorry i have’nt come to your blog as of late, i have been preoccupied with my life beyond the computer….but now that fall is approaching i know i will have more blog time!

Yes, plazas are convenient i agree! Glad you are going to the library….
i just got my library card last week. i missed going to the library in quito. libraries are swell!
and so are you with your brushed out hair, turkish delight, and blockbusters.
it’s weird how neighborhoods change. often good, often bad…always inevitable.
smooches!
You are such a bundle of bubbles! I heart you too much 🙂
xxooxxooxx
You’re beautiful hair brushed or not!
How wonderful to be in the magazine but then you should be in every magazine that promotes art, enchantment and general fabulous talent!
Oh the cleaning I need to do – I did measurements and a floor plan to FINALLY revamp my studio in to my own fanciful twist(as it were). 🙂
I need to renew my library card – you just reminded me!
Shall we go together and sit and giggle and be told to shhhhhhh!? 🙂
XOXOXOXOOXOX
I continue to be amazed by every single thing that you post in your glorious, gorgeous photos. You are such a creative inspiration. I know… I sound like a broken record, right? Hanging out with you here is just such an escape.
It has been several years since I have been to Catalina. I spent many weekends there as a kid and I have visited many times as an adult. Wow, this is definitely a new thing! I am happy for the residents. They have catered to tourists for so long. It’s about time to give the residents some TLC!

I just did a piece on my blogs about libraries and how long ago my last visit was! I just moved to Orange County, CA. I intend to find that library and visit!
