Of Cupcakes, a Mad Hatter & Shamrocks

To continue last post's tale – The Mad Hatter has returned from his wee journey – to find that I had absconded with his magical hat.  Oh, the tales I have to tell, goodness me!

But you see, I was prepared with the most perfect vanilla buttermilk cupcakes, just in case he was cross…

Pagan Poetry was playing on the old record player, and as the sun set, I caught sight of The Mad Hatter.  I had earlier, tucked his hat back into the garden, so he could find it.

I saw him pick it up and place it on his head.  He was acting madder than ever, spinning and twirling with the glimmer of the setting sun bouncing off the top of his hat.

Then he spun around looking me directly in the eye and asked, are you the little girl who stole my hat?

I curtsied and said,  I didn't exactly steal it sir, I found it in the garden.  Then I held out the giant cupcake for him to accept as a sort of peace offering, of the sweetest variety 😉

About the Cupcake:

Branch 1a

I used this Vanilla Buttermilk Cupcake recipe right here.  Two important notes are that, I increased the buttermilk to 1 scant cup (instead of 2/3 cup) after reading the reviews about dryness  – And I only cooked mine for 16 minutes. Perfection!

My frosting invention is rather fluffy cheesecake like, but much more mild –

I took one stick of room temperature softened salted butter, 1 cup of sour cream, and 1/4 Tsp. of Vanilla and mixed them together with my hand mixer.  I had 1 cup of powdered sugar waiting, that I added little by little to the already mixed sour-cream, butter and vanilla mixture.

I didn't use all the sugar for my mixture.  But, you should add it little by little, tasting it until the frosting is to your likeness.  I don't like mine very sweet.  Note also that this cupcake recipe is very sweet on its own.

I used extra tall cupcake liners for some of the cupcakes (as seen in photos), and those cooked up in 16 minutes as well.  Of course, all ovens are calibrated differently, so just peek in at yours often.

Have you noticed that homemade cupcakes are nothing like the texture of store bought mix cupcakes? Who knew?  Yuuummmmms!

Branch 3

Anyhow, so I hand the cupcake over to the Mad Man, and he takes a bite that covers his mustache like snow.  As he takes a second bite, I decide to make a run for it –

But, he captures me in one fell swoop!

Cupcake magic 2

Taking me on an adventure unlike I have ever experienced, filled with music and dance and surprises (for you too!).  There is so much more to tell, which I promise to share very soon…

Because for now, I must scurry off and make some of my shamrock brooches to pop in the mail for St. Patrick's day.

My free template and tutorials are still right here, just for you!

Vanilla cupcakes are delish. I know you have to work on your St. Patrick’s day brooches, you must continue the tale very soon of you and the Mad Hatter.

  14. oh those lovely shamrock brooches. We have helped make at least 250 of those lovelies ( well a simplified 3 tier version in coloured card) in the last two years as we have gone to our 3 childrens school classes as a special art activity.
Some of the children make extravagant glitter creations ( children after my own heart and not always girls either), while others go for the simple three tiers of green…but you know what…they all wear them the next day. woohoo!
We have a new school this year, so will have to test the water…and the classes are soo much bigger…a challenge…that is what we love. Thank you so much for sharing the pattern for these, love love love them!

    and it was all dreamy
    and You-ish
    with slide show treats
    and mingle-ly
    floaty colors spinning
    out of control
    in soft ways
    and
i think you and Mr L

Oooh, don’t tempt me with cupcakes!! I’m trying to lose weight! Luckily online cupcakes are calorie free, maybe I’ll just lick the monitor. Yuck, dusty. LOL I take it you’ve seen the movie by now?? I must wait til I can find a captioned version so I can follow the movie since it seems complicated and impossible to read lips. (I’m very very hard of hearing) – so I hope I can see it soon, too. I’m so jealous of all my blogger friends getting to see it before me, I may even have to just wait for the dvd. *sigh*
It’s so nice and warm today. Too bad we’re spending it inside painting the walls. Maybe I’ll duck outside for a minute or two and hope a white rabbit in a waistcoat comes by. 🙂
    Have a great weekend!!

  20. YSLGuy says:
