Of Autumn Palettes…

There's a desert romance in the air…

Autumn 5

Summer clings on to atumn.

Intertwined, they create warm in the day and cool at night.

But soon it will be time to go, just a memory of her in the sun.

Summer that is.

She lingers in these desert lands.

She's packed, she's said good-bye, and yet she stays.

Whenever it is her time I suppose she shall go.

Maybe it's because she's still tending her pumpkin vines crawling up Cinderella carriages…

Autumn 1

And illuminating the indoors with her bright light.

Autumn 8

While she's here I set the table, bake pies and cakes.

If only October could be one week longer, I beg.

Autumn 6

Alas, the quince are falling off the tree and the palette is changing.

There are fuschias and magentas -

Slowly, peachy goldens turn up.

Autumn 10

There are rambling roses and dahlias in both gardens.

Purple tones of zinnias dance in the breeze.

Autumn 4

I dry some for next year's seeds.

Autumn 7

I check on cherubs in a deep sleep in the garden – hidden bunnies under the purple lantana cove.

Autumn 3

A dance of the last of warm summer and cool tones of autumn are all around.

I work on big new projects in the garden, I can not wait to tell you about very very soon.

Autumn 11

For now I set my autumn table, as quince jam boils in the country kitchen.

Autumn 9

I spend much time wandering through my gardens -

Dreaming, wondering, believing.

Autumn 2

And in a few days I can tell, autumn will truly arrive.

Autumn 12

The nights get cooler and cooler.

Mornings are brisk.

One will go and the other will stay.

But for now – there is a romance of summer and autumn -

Their time to part shall come by Sunday I hear.

Holding on by tips of fingers.

We'd like to hold on, but moving forward is always filled with magic.

I tell myself that all the time…

Keep moving forward, keep moving forward.

Such a freedom in moving along.

Soon it will be entirely autumn – but October will be gone.

These last 6 days of October will mean the world to me.

I do so love October.

Deeply.

How about you?

Good thing I love November and December too.

See you soon,

I love October! It’s been a weird fall here though. Partly it was very hot & then very cold! It seems as though we’re losing fall & spring! I may have to move to a warmer climate just so I can grow my own quince! I swear my heart skips a beat when you show your quince pictures! The quince jam is sooo yummy!!! I just think it’s a fun name too! :0)

  2. I wish my tree gave tons more, lately it’s just one batch of jam. I’m not sure why. They’re such a neat thing to have in the garden for certain🌿💛🧡

  3. …always such a pleasure to come back to your blog and find such joy…thankyou…

  5. I don’t see why you couldn’t grow a quince tree? Pears are grafted with quince, I am so certain on would grow there. Let me do some research for you <3 <3 <3

“She’s packed, she’s said good-bye, and yet she stays.”
    I LOVE that line.
Alas, in Spokane, Washington she left at first snow. Brrrrr!
But despite the frigid temps, the thing I love about this time of year is how lots of candles burning brightly dispel the drear. I bought black ones this year to set the tone for Halloween.

Good morning Vanessa….I love seeing your posts. They are so very well written and beautifully displayed. I, too, LOVE October….the hot, hot summer is finally behind us and winter lies ahead. Days become shorter as the darkness arrives earlier with a chill that will require a sweater on most nights.
Perhaps because I, too, seem to be in the Autumn of my life this is such a special time. Just slowing down and resting when necessary to reap the benefits when Spring and Summer show their lovely colors.

    I just LOVE YOUR BLOG!

  10. October is my absolute Favorite Month of the entire Year! I’m rather obsessed with Halloween as well, so much Imagining can happen and seeing all the Children in their Costumes is a Treat to me. We are trying to buy a Home in a more remote area on acreage so this will be the very last Halloween with Trick-Or-Treaters I think. My Friends suggest I throw Halloween Parties at Pueblo Boheme’ instead if the Deal goes thru… I think that would be a splendid idea for kids and adults alike!
