My, Oh My, I Love…

Pre-destined days are simply the best, oh yes, I would say this is true.  It's days like these, where you awake with cravings, that you just can not ignore.  Where nothing else matters, but delving into one of the things you quite abundantly adore…

Yarn yarn yarn 1

Today I awoke in need of recuperation from the weekend festivities, and all I could think was yarn, yarn, yarn.  Give me yarn, I need yarn, oh yarn, I love you and miss you….

So after my garden tending duties, I found a cozy spot, a spot where I shall hide (quite possibly for the rest of the day, if I am lucky) and lose myself in scrumdillyumptious crochet…

And, just like that, after months and months without the urge, to swim and wade in softest wooly furs, I picked up my crochet hook again.

Yarn yarn yarn 5

The great wall of blanket (my 4 year endeavor), was screaming my name.  And what with the light, dancing around my room as it is, how can I ignore it?

Yarn yarn yarn 3

I shan't ignore it.  This time I shall listen, and lose myself in weaves and knots, of which I am over-zealously smitten…

As you might recall, I sort of wing it when it comes to crochet.  I picked up a few tricks from watching my grandma, and then sort of invented the rest.  Pro-crocheters would be horrified at the tricks I pull, I'm sure.

As for my blanket, with each color I try a different weave (of my own wacky invention, although some are probably legit, and I don't even know it), while using all different sorts of yarn.  I am not sure when it shall be complete.

Last night I thought – what if I just keep crocheting this blanket for the rest of my life, and see how huge it can get?

But then, I sort of snapped out of it, haha!

So, this is where you shall find me today, amongst dreams-capes made of wool.  I've added 3 inches width so far, and if I focus, I might finish it this year.

Alas, this blanket is all for fun, no rules, oh no, from rules we run 😉

Also, I have many tales of the birthday fest we traveled to, decorations, treats and car packed full.  There was so much food you could not move, and 3 cakes, all delicious.

I had a special cake made, just for the occasion.  And delivered buckets of seeds from my garden, which included GIANT sunflower heads, that everyone was tickled by.

I played hand clapping games with my young cousin, and we twirled in the grass for hours.  Then she wore my platform shoes, and I her little sandals.

I even took a video, and had beautiful moments with my Granny (she's amazing).  My Mom is still a girl, I can tell you this is true.  She even wore a birthday top hat, made of cushiony fabric (which my young cousin urged).  I think she's over her panic, and I'll tell you this…

She closed her weekend celebrations by visiting here, seeing her post and reading your words.  She was utterly delighted and touched to the core.

Thank you for sharing precious sentiments with her, thank you ever so much.

I'll be sure to share more about the party later (I have tons of photos), but right now I must skedaddle, as my yarn is beckoning me…

I feel myself slipping into a state of yarn obsession again…………..

Yarn yarn yarn 11

Not such a bad obsession I suppose.  Unless of course, I buy so much yarn, I have to go live outside in the gypsy garden, and let my yarn have the house….

Actually, I have not been yarn shopping in ages.  Yarn shops are a dangerous place, don't you think?  The colors, the wool, the softness, the sparkle, the the the….

Okay, Okay, I'm leaving 😉

🖤,V

ps:  Sometime today, I shall have a guest post at Cupcake Wishes and Birthday Dreams.  And as a hint, let me just tell you, my focus are those wee little cakes, we call cup… 😉

pps:  3 random things.

1)  I would rather write pss, than pps 😉

2)  I have been asked, so I shall tell.  I get my yarn at all sorts of shops.  Sometimes at big craft stores, but mostly at local yarn shops for some of the extra special decorative stuff.  And, I quite adore when folks hand over yarn they no longer want or might even toss, like lovely Lori did last year (she sent super fun yarns).  I have devoured and enjoyed it oodles, and appreciate every bit.  And, it's sort of a delicious recycling, don't you think?

3)  Mister Lovee and I laugh so much, and we laugh at the same things.  He is my bestest friend, apart from being my lovee.  I do imitations of him that make him laugh so much, he gasps through laughs (while rolling around) saying, stop stop stop, please, hehheahhahahahaaa, stooooooooooooop!!! hehahahahhehehee……..

  1. Perfectly cute and sweet is this post from top to bottom! Hee hee stop! That is funny! Have a beautiful week! Blessings and that great light, Amy

What a yummy, colorful, fuzzy, fanciful obsession! I learned how to crochet from my gran too but have completely forgoten how I think. But your blanket has me dreaming of fall and maybe it’s like riding a bicycle so I shall see what my brain remembers! Enjoy your yarnfilled day.

  3. Kim says:

    Vanessa…
You are the bravest crocheting girl I know!! How fantastical to just make up your own stitches. I grew up watching my mom crochet, but I don’t remember anything she taught me. 🙁
I think you should keep going and going and going until you can cover all of Arizona with a colorful, wooly blanket!

Reading your lovely post today has inspired me to dye some wool! I love bright cheery colors too. Your work is BEAUTIFUL!!! I never picked up crocheting, ’cause I didn’t have a grandma that knew how to teach me, I suppose! I just love reading your blog.

🖤🖤🖤 Love these photos, Oh Royal Fanciful One, especially the ones involving the fabulous lighting, #1,5,8, & 11. But I must tell you, my Magical Muse, you KNOW what yarn does to my brain! Oh actually, wait, it’s YOU that does it to my brain!!! Come out come out, come out and PLAY! I promise right now that I shall NEVER grow up, just so I may keep playing with you. **blows kisses** Deb

Oh Vanessa, it sounds like your mother had a beautiful Birthday. I love the colors that you are using for your crocheting. My Grandmother used to crochet, I still have many of her blankets, including some baby ones for my daughters. I never learned how, but my sister, Susan is a fiber artist and can do it all.
    I love your colors.
    Karen

  7. Oh how I love all the colors and textures of that wonderful yarn. I wish I could crochet. Maybe one day I will just pick it up and start without the rules as well. It seems positively funalicious.
I agree. How funny it would be to just keep going until it was HUMONGOMOUS. Hehehehe.
Well have a Wonderfully enchanting time frolicking in all that lucious yarn.
    Wendy from Wonderland

  8. I absolutely ADORE your crocheted blanket!!! It is wondrously colorful and the stitches are scrumptiously made. And I think it is the yarn that makes it so gloriously delectable, such textures and patterns, it looks so comfy and cozy.
I hadn’t picked up a crochet hook for about a year and then Grandma had to be in a nursing home, so I took my crochet hook and yarn to the nursing home and sat visiting with Grandma and ‘knocked’ out some black chenile yarn wrist cuffs with purple yarn as the trim. Totally Goth, Victorian… No pattern, just fun stuff!!! It is so much fun to create with yarn. Thank you for sharing your awesome photos…I love how the light captures the beauty of the colors of your blanket.
Oh! Yes! And do post your mom’s birthday photos…would love to see the whole clan!
    XOXO
    Miss Teresa

  9. I know about that yarn addiction V, and I also have to stay away from yarn shops! It’s sad, first…paper (which is still a total addiction), then fabric (still a total addiction), next add yarn…oh my! Your blanket is beautiful, I can’t wait to see how big it is when it’s finally done.
So glad your Mombie had a lovely birthday too!
    Jamie 🙂

  10. Tina Gates says:

Yes, yes, yes! I am with you on this one! Last year I took a gypsy shawl workshop. The day began with a trip to a wonderful wool shop – I tell you, I was in heaven! Then back to a beautiful studio to begin our creations…followed by a scrumptious afternoon tea. Everytime I wrap myself in my gypsy shawl I have fond memories of that magical day…your blanket is beautiful…there’s something very meditative about working with wool and the click clack of the needles. Have a wonderful wooly day my friend x

  11. Bohemian says:

Your piece is lovely and so delightfully colorful… and I too often have to “hide” in order to focus on my Art… alas, I’m usually found and interrupted long before I’d like to be. *le sigh*

  12. Jill James says:

did someone say “Gypsy shawl”? ooooooooh

  13. Your blanket makes me want to take both of my hands and squish it over and over… like a kitty cat making biscuits. Oh and that cake looks hilarious and about to catch fire! Can’t wait to see more. 😉

  14. oh please do keep crocheting that blanket for the rest of your life! taht would be awesome!!!!

  15. Marjorie says:

Oh!! What a delight!! I envy your skills, my dearie!! And imagine if you add a bit each year….what a magic blanket that would be by the time your a little old lady!! Delights indeed!! Thank You for sharing this bit of loveliness today!!
I’ve been on a cloud all day…feeling little baby squirm and kick for the first times over the weekend….and I just can’t get enough! tee hee!
    Have a loverrrrrly day Miss!!

  16. Kathy says:

Sounds like a fabulous birthday weekend for you mom. I’m glad she enjoyed it and you too! Love that crocheted thingy. Very colorful. Very YOU! As for you and Mr. Lovee – yeah, you gotta laugh. If you can laugh with your sweetie you can make it through ANYTHING! Seriously, laughter is one of the most important things in a relationship. gotta have it! – Peace and laughter to all of you.

  17. YSLGuy says:

I attempting knitting but was no good. I could only handle doing very long and skinny scarves. Not very interesting. I love the colors you are using.

  18. Jane says:

Oh what beautiful colors!! I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit, and sew, and speak french…lol, someday! Thank you for sharing your lovely pictures.

  19. Theresa says:

Ah! Yarn beautiful yarn! Now that August is here, I am feeling the urge to get my hands tangled up in it again. I mostly like to knit smaller projects, as longer projects can find me getting restless! LOL And you needn’t worry about NOT following a pattern. You are free-styling crochet, and there is NOTHING wrong with that whatsoever. Your designs are so colorful and fun. 🙂 Just go with it!
I am loving that birthday cake, and I’m SO happy your mom had such a grand time! That’s what it’s all about, really. 🙂
    xoxo Theresa
PS My hubby is my bestest friend, too. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  20. Theresa says:

  21. dear vanessa,
it’s been awhile since i’ve popped in to comment.
i’ve been behind on blog reading and just recently caught up with all of your posts from this summer. i just have to say that i was so sorry to hear about baby. i cried reading your posts. she was so lucky to have you in her life and vice versa. i remember the first picture i saw of her on your blog – she was positively grinning! what a special girl.
glad to see you are crocheting the pretty pretty blanket! it’s so fun to crochet free form and in all different colors. crochet is another thing i’ve been really behind on lately…
but hopefully no more falling behind for me – i need frequent doses of a fanciful twist! and to pick up my crochet hooks, among other things.
    🙂

  22. Krishana says:
