Miniature Cardboard Houses Make me Happy!

I had to come back and share some sparkly fun with you all!!!  I was asked recently to be a part of a week of creative inspiration over at Melissa Michael’s amazing blog, The Inspired Room.  It just so happened I had been making a little treat for myself that led me to what I would share. Melissa just posted this, so you can read the full story at her place.  It had to do with a longing I woke up with one day last week.

I wanted so much to be able to go to a real toy store.  A store with handmade toys and treasures.  Real puppets and such… However, some lovely vintage cardboard houses, found locked away in an antique stores glass case were just the inspiration I needed to conjure up my own little house… read full story here

In the studio I went to create…

  10. Hoooorrrraay for pink sparkly houses! my favorite thing of all about your post was the thought on creativity, that you sometimes just need to lose yourself in the process, forget about the rules, the instruction manual, the point or objective, and just enter a childlike world of NO WORRIES.
    looooooove it! xoxoxoxoxo
thanks so much for sharing it….my little heart is exploding with happiness and inspiration!

  11. Pam Aries says:

  27. I’m still thinking about the flan pan and now gnomes? She’s so cute! What is her height? It would be helpful to be able to create a friend a similar size to her.
    Christine

    Sharon

  30. michelle says:

How fun and beautiful! And what a coincidence, I was planning to make little felt trees this weekend with my kiddies! Now I think I need to add little people too. I love doing things like that, I love the crepe paper idea. Why is does it seem even better when you can create something like that from things you already have?! Kuddos, miss vanessa you have done it again!

  31. Randi says:

Pink, glitter, gingerbread trim, paper trees…you’ve got my mind spinning in all the right directions. I might just have to give it a try!! Thank you for being an inspiring little elf!

  32. Donna O. says:

I KNEW it. You don’t live in a regular house at all. You are a little faery gnome who teases us from time to time that you are one of us! Coming out of your little glitter house every now an then with your art and clever words… you are SO busted. Nice try, pixie girl!!!
    D.

  33. Paris Parfait says:

Oh, you are too too clever! Excellent. And your little glittery bird was quite the hit as part of a centerpiece at my dinner party last Saturday. xoxox

  34. I made a bunch of cardboard houses last year and it was so fun! I went to the train/hobby store and bought some d$$R deer and they were so cute on the lawns. I haven’t pulled them out yet this year but I am going to soon! Happy Happy Joy to you! Love the tiny gnomie too!

  35. Nancy says:

Hun! I too love little (and big) glittery cardboard houses! But…alas, not being nearly as talented as you my friend, I must buy my house all ready finished. Cody Foster has some really pretty houses, I bought a set of 5 of his smaller houses and 3 of his larger houses. But now I need gnomes! I love your little gnomes….especially the one you made!
Your article was inspiring and you make it all look so easy so I think you should make a whole lot more houses and gnomes and put them in your shop! 😉

  36. Jill says:

    OOooooh!!! How absolutely beautiful!!!!
    Love it!
Can’t wait to see you at the “Celebration of Traditions” tomorrow!

  37. Laume says:

Oh, those houses are completely magical! As is the story of just creating “like a child” – I am humbly inspired.

  38. Tricia says:

Oh, i do love those glittery houses with the little green trees…you’ve inspired me to want to make one!

  39. Wende says:

    Oh… LOVE. Love. love. love.
I’ve been wanting little houses like this since last year… Yours is so much better than the vintage pieces I’ve seen. 😀 And gnome girl… perfectly you.

  40. That is a wonderful story and that little house is so cute! I have been searching everywhere for a pink house and pink bakery I painted. Now I really have to find them. My little town is not complete without at least one pink house.

  41. cruststation says:

Your dollshouse is wonderful, of course it had to be glittery and pink 🙂 Oh my goodness, I want that rosy-cheek girl! Can I invite myself to your Christmas wonderland?…wish I had time to create.

  42. eb says:

oh Vanessa – what sweet little houses… all sugary and twinkle-toey…
    xox – eb.

  43. Linda says:

I love it. I’ve made some with patterns…but I love the way you did this one….just using your imagination …. I will try!
