I truly don’t kow how people do it?? How they make videos and such… I have such respect for them!! I can’t stand to hear my Gnomey Mammie, squealey, silly voice…
Still, I did take a video in a rain storm. I was soaked, carrying a beach towel around my neck, my camera & an umbrella… I have learned many things from this silly video… Like, stay still longer and look up a bit more. Although, with the umbrella and towel and camera in tow, nevermind the rain… I couldn’t really look up that much 😉 You’ll see…
So, there I was minding my own business, finishing up some new Black and White postcards and prints. Trying to be good and get some other projects squared away when I had this bright idea…
By the way, the fancy peacock will be headed to the shop as a print, and a rounded corner postcard… (black on white)
As will two new drawings… A mermaid, and another character I will share later, when it is totally complete… They will be a black and white trio of sorts. As well as available individually…
I drew the mermaid below while watching Wives and Daughters… Loved it!! (Mr. Lovee liked it too) Another Elizabeth Gaskell lovely… Like Cranford… You can Netflix them, or check them out at your library (our library had Wives and Daughter’s).
Oh to frolick in the sea…
Here is the silly video. Eeeeeek! Plus it got so fuzzy once I loaded it onto YouTube… I need to get used to my voice, before I can branch out a bit more… Traumatic I tell ya… But I suppose I have to start somewhere… Even if it is amongst toads and mud 😉
I even made you this… Mud pie… Oh, and this is my YouTube Channel 😉
See you soooooon!! xoxo, V

Well done! I enjoyed the trek through the monsoons, hearing your sweet voice and imagining Prince charming scouting the way! Wonderful sketches too! As always a pleasure to visit. I’m usually just a lurker!
Hugs Giggles
Isn’t it the strangest thing listening to your own voice? Well, you do have a lovely one, so nothing to be shy about! Oh, and that mud pie is quite possibly the most delicious looking mud pie I’ve ever seen *yum*
great video! thanks for taking us out in the monsoon with you!
I have been having notions of peacocks lately too…wonder what is in the air?
Haha..dont you just LOVE playing in the rain?? its the most cleansing, wonderful, relaxing thing anybody can do..I usually lay down on my concrete and enjoy the storm rolling in above me..beautiful!!! but darling, I loved your home-made video..prince charming, and your mermaid..(I’ve always dreamed of being a mermaid too..I even thought of working at a waterpark with mermaid acts, but the close’s one is in florida..hehe)..you inspire me (and Im sure everyone eles) to stay in touch with our creative, imaginative side..so please keep doing what you do best, being creative, and fun!!
I’ve never enjoyed a monsoon more! What a lovely outing with you. And those froggies! What fun!
It is so dry here, and you quenched my thirst!
Lovely video, Vanessa!

Great post Vanessa!
Loved watching the movie…hearing you chat and hearing the rain…felt like I was right there with ya!
But I didn’t get wet!!!
Have a great week!
kayellen
Ah since I can’t be there splashing around with you this is the next best thing. Too bad the camera isn’t waterproof, you could have ditched the umbrella and danced a mermaid dance…twirling and swirling like you were riding the waves.
Since I AM an oceandreamer I LOVE the Mermaid….she’s divine!
I had my video camera with me yesterday and took nary a single frame. Perhaps one day, once I learn how to edit them.
This was fun seeing the monsoon and hearing the thunder and never having to get wet. ha!
XOXOXO

Oh Vanessa, how you’ve made my day!!! I lived in Phoenix my whole life and moved away 2 years ago… my heart longs to be back there every monsoon season. Thank you soo much for sharing your monsoon outing ~ and your voice is very sweet and charming!
An especially fabulous post today! 🙂
~emily
hooray for fancy peacock coming soon to your shop!
What a lovely mud pie!! I can’t wait to watch the video…I will have to however, because there isn’t any possible way to do it here at Snap Snap…silly Internets!
How sweet your voice is Miss V!!! It’s such a wonderful fanciful voice and suits you!!!
Love the video! YaY!!!I felt like I was right there with you in the monsoon with the mud and toads!
Oh!!! That mud cake looks almost good enough to eat!
Awwww I loved hearing your voice! It was so much fun. Thank you.
I’ll be keeping a close eye on the shop…I’m smitten with the mermaid!
You are the most ginormous nut (with a lovely voice)! But soooo much fun! I loved your monsoon video because I kinda sorta got to play in the rain with you without having to actually get wet. I absolutely can NOT stand to get wet if it’s raining….it’s a thing….I swear I look like an Olympic runner going from my house to my car when it’s raining!
Oooh, and I definitely want peacock postcards….tre’ lovely! I can’t wait to see them in your shop!
Hmmm….mud pie….ya know what? I’ll have the leftover turkey meatloaf thankyouverymuch. 😉
Vanessa, I just love your peacock and mermaid. Don’t you ever think about making your fabulous drawings into unmounted rubber stamp sheets to sell – I would just love to have some stamps of your lovely work for my projects! Sharon x
Great job on the video
Alison
I loooooove your mermaid…I need one of those for our mermaid bathroom.
Your video is great fun…and your voice is lovely. I would love to see videos of you painting, giving a tour of your studio, giving a tea party etc., etc. With your imagination and sense of fun and fantasy I am sure your videos would become favorites on YourTube.
Ok, that was too cute! and your voice totally matched your whimsical art work!
Thanks for sharing!
I love rainstorms too and I love the smell of “after it rains”
~Michelle
Most likely I am 3 x’s your age but whenever I visit I leave feeling so young at heart – such imaginative spirit and energy is contagious! Love your blog, your fantasies and yes, your sweet voice!
Oh I so loved your pictures and especially your video. How awesome it was to watch and hear the rain fall.

Hello~
MORE VIDEOS, MORE VIDEOS, MORE VIDEOS!!!!!!
That was amazing!! I had so much fun watching that!!!!! Excellent!
And, gosh I HATE my voice! Sounds so wierd when you hear it like that! YOurs is very sweet!!! It takes guts to do that!!!!!
Bravo!!!!~
Oh did I mention MORE VIDEOS?!?!?!?!!!!
heehee!
Enjoy your day!
Was the rain not insanity this weekend? I was at Epic in 4th on Saturday night and there was three feet of water in the road! I was parked really far away and had to run to my car and by the time I got there I was completely drenched from head to foot.
It was amazing and wonderful!
I loved the video! It was fun to hear your real live voice! I know what you mean though, I hate the way mine sounds always have. It was just a wonderful little trip to a monsoon. I can’t even remember when I have last gotten to experience summer rain like that, what a great sound-the rain and your voice! Oh, loved wives and daughters too, now you have me in the mood for it again. Have you read any of her actual novels? I am considering it. Have a great day! Hugs!
Hi Vanessa! I see you are well and sketching some real amazing drawings. Love the peacock and the mermaid. I’ll be watching your vid in a moment, thanks for the mudpie and for always making me smile! 🙂 xoxo Suzy
Traumatic is the perfect way to describe it when I hear my own voice recorded ~ it is truly traumatizing! I think the only time I hear my voice is when I leave a message on my Mom’s answering machine and hear an old message played back when I’m there. It freaks me out.
But you are very brave, and rest assured you have a lovely voice that suits you perfectly!
Your video was SO SO charming and fun!
And the mud pie, delicious!
Mr. Spielberg called for your number- okay if I give it to him?
D.
PS- Absolutely loved it.
So you can even make a mud pie look beautiful
Must check out Wives and Daughters. I love the period pieces so – my escape! Your peacocks (I CANNOT spell! I’ve typed peasocks and peacosks every manner of the troublesome word.) Ah me, must be getting to bed.
Hey, Vanessa!
Cute video – you’ve got such neat critters around your place, including Princes and Mermaids. Is there a Merman waiting in the shallows for her to glide past?
Funny about voices – I hear mine on the answering machine, and I think “Now why, and HOW, did my mother rerecord that message I left?!?”
Happy drawing,
Kate
What fun to take a moment and play with the froggies. Thanks for sharing your monsoon adventure. It makes me want to go out and explore here and just enjoy what nature is giving.
Your voice is lovely! I was so excited to hear what you sound like. And as an Australian, especially as one who used to live in the country, I totally understand the excitement about rain.
Wives and Daughters is wonderful, I might just have to dig it out and watch it again. You should also check out North and South, it’s another Elizabeth Gaskell adaptation. It’s a bit more solemn than Wives and Daughters, but it’s also wonderful.
Miss Vanessa, I loved your video! It’s so inspiring, the little frog, and the peaceful part too. It’s made me want to take a video of this wonderful place that we are going to this weekend called Spring Creek Retreat. I’ll have to try to get my video camera working. Unfortunately, I have one of those old fashion huge ones that records VHS tapes. I desperately need a new one.
I love to lay back on the deck and look up through the trees. It’s so peaceful!
I loved your mermaid too and the adventure in the rainshower. I hope you do more of these videos. It was wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing.
Vanessa,
That was fun! I love the rain and your excitement with the little frog made me smile. I do that at our house and my family thinks that I am nuts ( well all except my little girls). Thank you for the opportunity to dream about being a mermaid with you. Love the drawing. Hugs, Bobbi Jo
The mermaid is wonderful!! How I loved playing in the rain with you. Such fun. Looks like we may have some rain here soon.
(I hope it is rain, we do need the water. Lots of wild fires here in Or and Cal. As much as I love thunder storms, we don’t need the lightning that goes along with it.)
Love Erin~
You have a wonderful sweet almost child like voice on this video. Oh, not squeaky at all. What a wonderful adventure you took us on. How nice of you to share.
Tess
Feel like I’m right there and what a pretty little mud pie.
Karla
I am going to want more fun videos….and frog chases…

What a lovely mermaid. And it’s been awhile since I’ve seen someone dancing in the rain. Thanks for sharing your rain storm!
No fair! I want rain too!
What a sweet video! And your excitement for that tree, the pretty purple mountain, the monsoon and the frogs! Vanessa, you need to do more videos…you are simply the sweetest!

Hi Sweetie!!!
I am soooo trying to come back, don’t like to blog when I’m blue, and honestly I’m almost NEVER blue,so this has been a hard time for me,but yes…. I’m comin’ back! Thanx for the frolic with the beautiful Ondines!
PS LUV your voice!
We are having monsoons here too! Don’t ya love it when it rains frogs? Thanks for the mudpie!!
🙂
I missed the rain here but got to play in rain, hail and snow in colorado for the last week. Be careful under trees and storms. Last summer in colorado we were up at 13,000 feet, in snow, and I got a mild zap of lightening strike. While I can say that it was an interesting experience…I can say that I didn’t get out of the vehicle this year to take pictures from that spot.
My dear Miss V, I had to laugh when I stopped in today with the talk of the mermaid drawing. My house is all about mermaids, my girls tease my son that he is a “merm, “as they call him. I have no idea how that got started, but they draw mermaids on chalkboards and tease him about his scales. He laughs but sometimes he gets really mad. Poor guy. Big sisters can be a real pain!
Anyhow, enough silliness from my house…now to your silliness! I enjoyed your video and the monsoon! Wow, what fun to go out and play! And what do you mean your screechy voice? Is was lovely just like you.
xoxo
Today is my birthday and you are cordially invited to my party down by the river. Wear loose fitting clothes and don’t drive due to the excessive amounts of food and champagne that is on offer.

I knew you’d sound sweet and young but BUT where did you get a northern accent??? Oh yes you do yes you do too don’t argue with me.
I love the video! Bring on some more! Can Adam play too?
So many strings to your bow! It was lovely to hear your voice and see the little princes hopping around your garden! Heres to rainy days 🙂
Gypsy catching up…lovely to see that your stories are still as colourfull as always…missed you!!!
Vannessa, wonderful!
I have been watching Cranford, love it so much.”You are in Cranford now”
I so enjoyed your merry walk in the monsoon.

Much love, Amy
You are just too cute! And I LOVE that peacock!
Oh what a sweet voice you have Miss Vanessa. I think we all feel that way when we hear ourselves on tape. I know that I do. I loved your video! We got to see Mr. Toad trying to lead you to the land where magic happens. What fun!!
I also love the previous post with all of your pretty pictures in pencil and ink. What lucky ladies who have commissioned pieces from you. Well I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
I love the video, and you have a lovely voice, so don’t worry!
(I also just picked up a copy of Artful Blogging and was so happy to see you in there! Your piece was just wonderful!)

Awwwww! Your little film was marvelous! Thank You for sharing it with us!! 🙂 And we braved our very own monsoon on our way home yesterday….it was quite frightening, what with all the cars and scary I-95 traffic and lightening, too!! Oh my!!
I’m so glad we are back and I can visit you here at your magical retreat!!
Hooray!!
Monsoons are the BEST! Thank you for sharing.
I love, love, love your peacock, mermaid and your video! When you wrote “Monsoon” I thought you were talking about my favourite store in the UK! I love your creativity and imagination. I think it would have a lot of fun with mine.
Merle or Rowandevoe
Oh, I had to add that the sound of my own voice totally freaks me out. I have an identical twin sister and while we think we look and sound different, people still get us confused. When I hear my voice, I sound like her and it freaks me out! When I see myself on video it also freaks me out-our mannerisms are so much the same. Twins are freaky people!
Take care,
merle of rowandevoe
I love mermaids^^
