Isn’t it always the case with whirlwind love. You are fulfilled in your little life. Everything feels cozy and happy. Warm and wonderful… Then BAM! LOVE. It falls out of the sky, crashing down, smacking you right upside the head. Of course, it doesn’t happen when you are prepared and in search of it… Not when your heart was lonely and in dire need. No siree, it happens on a day when you are baking turtle brownies & the witches are officially making their entrance… Sometimes love happens when your basket is already full…
I went to visit the witches in town for 2 days this week, to finish up some pottery, and get the house ready for some super secret fun. We were scurrying around. Impromptu baking for visitors & cleaning up to go to the pottery studio… That is when he arrived.
A sleek salt and pepper haired, handsome creature. I found out he had asked my sister if he could move in with her and me, and she said YES! What?? Well, in truth, she told him he could find a cozy place on the porch (reasons to follow). He was a cross between George Clooney, Tom (of Tom and Jerry) & Sean Connery . His name, Larry. His game. To be charming and funny and so very unusual…
Larry. Our new love.
You see, I am very allergic to cats. However, I have always loved them. I have tried to have a cat or two. But two nights of swollen lips and hives in my youth, forced me to realize, it would be no pets for me… However, Larry was going to simply live in the yard and is being cared for and loved by my sister Kristen. He appeared when he was a wee bit younger… See here…(I didn’t know him then)
The sad part is that Larry’s owner left him behind when she moved. Poor Larry was left to roam, without food or a home. Thank goodness my sister let him move into the yard. He fits in just beautifully! The yard is totally walled in and gated. So, Larry is safe from Havelinas and Coyotes…
Now, there are some things about Larry that make him extra special. I learned them while visting my house in town this week. I just could not help falling in love. First of all, he loves water. Yes, I know, strange but true. The guy loves to get into the hose, head and all, and roll in the water… I was fixing the fountain and he even helped with that…
He has the longest tail I have ever seen on a cat. Now the second strange thing is… Larry likes dogs. That helps because Kristen has a miniature Pincher. Larry walks up to Douglas and kisses him on the nose…
They are great friends. Isn’t that just precioussssss???
So, it is official. We are in love with Larry. Larry seems to love all the treasures in the yard. He roams around as if he owns the joint…
So that is the story about love & Larry… Now we are headed into our first round of pumpkin carving (we always carve a few throughout the season, as they rot so quickly).
We are also planning our witchy-poo costumes, whether we go somewhere or not, we will be wearing them… Perhaps I should replicate this little witches ensemble??
I took out the giant Halloween decoration bin this morning… Sooo much to choose from…
Maybe I won’t go overboard this year… The wonderful Sadira sent us the perfect gift…
You will see mine later (gold), however, here is Kristen’s in silver. Can you make it out? It says "Wicked." Is that perfection or what?? We are overjoyed!! Not only that, she made them!!! Thank you Miss Sadira!!!!!!!
There is my sis with hers. She loves it!!!
Oh, and Sadira made us some charming cards too. I made my sister wear a witches hat while she read hers. She had just woken up and was kinda thrown into the whole thing… She might kill me later for these photos.. So if you don’t hear from me for a while…
Well, off I go to unpack the neverending bags… From one home to the other, like a gypsy I roam… A bag-ladie’s bags…
Oh, and, I was thinking, I would love to put together a super fun fall/Halloween goodie bag… Leave a comment & I will put those names in a hat, and let Mr. Lovee choose a Halloween gift bag, for one of you… xoxo

your life sounds so busy and yet somehow you make time to entertain us with these beautiful posts…I don’t know how you manage it! We don’t really do halloween here in Oz but still, I would love to recieve a goodie bag from you!
Larry is adorable and so loveable; I’m glad he found a safe home in your yard. Love your Halloween stash too, and your cute sister in the witch’s hat.
I LOVE LARRY! WHAT A SWEET KITTY!
Hey Vanessa Contessa creator of all things diva-ish and super!
Love Larry.
He is suh-weeet.
And Doug-lips, had me at hello. That face!!!
Give old Douglips a kiss for me. (Douglas is the best name.)
You will be an incredibly warty, musty, moldy old witch! Whoa…kidding. Cute, super cool and not crushed by a house, yeah you! The good witch.
xo
Blue
choose me! choose me! Oh, what fun I love a give-away, even when I don’t win! What a sweet kitty, he looks half cougar(something about the eyes) and half zebra! I loooove that witches hat your sis is wearing. I started my nieces halloween costume today, a pink and black witch’s dress. And now I want to be a pink and black witch. I will post it in a few days when it is done, you have to give your opinion! Have a great weekend!
I LOVE LARRY…
and you must have MR. Lovee pick MY name –
you know for the goodies…
or U will B Bwitched…
xox – eb.
Larry is so very charming! What a little cutie! Those little witches! the make me think of WitchiePooh , not sure why. I must tell you a little family secret, we are Gypsies. My sister and I LOVE it! My grandmother thinks it is awful! So I envy your nomadic life. 🙂
Love Erin~
Ps. Tell you sister she looks lovely in that Hat! Makes me think of Elfaba.
Hey Fancy Pants-I’m not a dog or cat person but I do love George and Sean so can I still visit here? Go ahead and put my name in the witches hat so Mr. Lovee can choose- is he a part of the goodie bag??
D.
Larry is a looker! Larry is a charmer! I can see why it was love at first sight, I just want to snuggle him! When I was little I was allergic to cats, I wanted one but all I’d get were cat figurines. BUT luckily I outgrew it because I cannot imagine not having MY love, Miss Daisy Cat.
I’m losing my mind over the witch on the black chaise lounge….you have the best stuff! But then as a witch I bet you just sit in the enchanted chair, don your hat and striped socks and twitch your nose. Hmmm, perhaps I need to send you a “twitch” list! Kind of like Santa! HA!
OOOH, if Mr. Lovee drew my name I’d be over the moon….
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
Lisa
Silly girl…of course Larry walks around like he owns the place…he does! All cats do (ms. meena is nodding her head while I type this)
You are ever so welcome for your Tric-Or-Treat parcel…it was the least I could do for my favorite glitter girls…
Big kisses to you both…
Oh larry is adorable!!! I have to admit I have a bit of an irrational fear of some cats after a scare a few years ago – but I am trying to get over it – we are even thinking of getting a kitten at some stage – or a house bunny – or two! But Larry just looks so loveable and friendly. And that witch!!!!! She is amazing!! I wish oh how I wish we celebrated halloween more here in the UK – perhaps I should have my own little halloween thing here – just me an a big ol fat pumpkin!
As far as Larry is concerned he does own the place, he is very handsome. Would you believe I too am allergic to cats and we have two and yes they come in the house and do dreadful things like sleep on the beds. It’s quite strange really everytime I meet a new cat, visit a house with a cat, I sneeze and sneeze and my eyes run but somehow I have built up an immunity to ours.
Larry is such a cutie, no wonder you fell in love with him! And he loves water, and dogs? He must be a very special cat indeed. Vanessa, I feel “Sometimes love happens when your basket is already full.” deserves to be quoted!! You’re such a funny gal 😉 Happy pumpkin carving.
Hi Vanessa! Such a sweet cat, no wonder uou fell in love with him right away. You’re right, he is very charmant, like George Cloony, but also a bit cheeky.
My mom is allergic to cats too and I always get a bit sneezy when they are around.
I worked in an animal shelter as a volunteer on the cats department for about a year, I wanted the dogs department because I’m more a dog person and did that aswell a couple of times, but I got the cat’s department. There are more cats without a home than dogs. When I was working there I loved cats more and more and now I’m really a cat fan aswell, though I think they are sometimes quite unpredictable, which can be fun, or not sometimes hehe… But there was a special cat there aswell, a black one, also a male cat. When I washed his plate, he also wanted to be in the sink aswell and he wanted water all over him! He was very cute and my greatest friend over there! Maybe Larry and he are related in some way ;)!
Ans those Halloween things are so great!! Your sister and you look so cute! It’s so much fun having a sister (I have a younger sister!)!
Well I wish you a very happy weekend Vanessa! Talk to you soon! xxxxx Les
Dear Contessa Vanessa,
I’d never heard of a havelina before. I had to Google it – so is a havelina a wild pig?
Larry is indeed a beautiful cat.
Do all of your family like mysterious & quirky objets d’art & furniture?! (like me)
That is the most glamorous witch’s hat I have ever seen, & I love that green!
I must ask about the painting of the red head: who painted it, & what is the story behind it? It’s so colourful & interesting.
Which Witch is Which? ha ha
How are you my American alter ego!!!!!!!
xxMichelle
Larry is adorable, as are these photos! What a wonderful little courtyard and that house – I could spend hours just looking at it all. So clever and creative and whimsical and beautiful – rather like you and K! I love how you make such an occasion of Halloween. What fun! And I am baking one of your recipes today. xoxox
Larry is an absolute charm. I imagine it was pretty easy to fall in love. I just adore your witches and Halloween treasures and all your lovely bags… the loveliest bag lady of them all!
Oh, I sure would like some goodies.
xxxooo
Love, as you have discovered, comes when it is ready, when it wants to and not a moment sooner.
I love your site..the fabrics, the colours, the eclectic feel of who you are and what you love ~ the witch’s hat on your sister is one of the best I have ever seen..not your “typical” black hat…it has a personality. But then, don’t all witches?!?
I know I’ll be back here…I’m posting you in my “favourites”.
Larry the Lover is indeed a handsome lad. No wonder you are a smitten kitten! And witchy stuff!! Oh my! I’m envious of it all. Have fun and post lots of pictures when you can!
Well you know I want to be part of this wonderful give away!! I LOVE your posts!! So fun and intriguing!!!
Okay, you know I told you a while back that I’m a little Halloween skittish because being scared in any way shape or form is not something I’m up for…but you make it look so inviting…I’m warming up to it. I think I just might have to make a witchy-poo costumer myself…tool, tool, and more tool! Love the hat you but on Kristen, and absolutely love Larry! 🙂
have no idea how to spell tool in this sense…maybe it’s toole, tule??? oh well, you get the point… 😉
Your adoption of Larry is fantastic. what a great story and how lucky you all found each other! He is mah-jestic.
I sure hope you have fun with your decorating. Mine will start tomorrow if I am lucky.
Awww look at Kandeedo grinning under that hat! I see why Larry just had to be with her, don’t you?
What the havolina is a…oh, never mind.

And I am in love with your Larry, too!! He is most handsome!! 🙂 He looks very loveeeeee! 🙂

Larry IS a handsome and unsual gent indeed! He is such a lovely tom, and he looks perfectly happy to live in your magical garden….well, who WOULDN’T! 🙂
You’ve inspired me to go out shopping for a pumpkin today! 🙂
Yay! Larry is so super duper cute!
Sorry for my lack of commenting- I’m here reading and loving, to be sure!!
Heather
EVERY home needs a ‘Larry’ and your Larry is just the cat’s meow!! How lucky he is to live in such a wonderful home with adventures to be yet discovered! He will bring you good gifts in unimagined ways!
And yeah! for the beglittered ‘wicked’ from the lovely Miss Sadira…is she not the best?? I love that lady!
Thank you for the visit – one always feels inspired and a bit giggly when visiting you!

Precious kitty! Not quite ready for a new furry little thing living with us,I actually still miss my Elvis. You must, must, must, replicate that witchies Victorian-esque outfit !
I think Larry has fallen on his feet in finding you both. He can be your guardian puss-in-boots and can dandy along with a cheekycat grin.

It is very nice that Larry has found his new home in your yard.I was having beautiful norsk skog-cat named Mina and I was very sad when she died two yaears ago.I like cats.
Halloween isn’t so popular here in Europe but I’m the black witch all the time 🙂 🙂 🙂
What a wonderfully eclectic post! You are something! LOVE Larry (we have his distant cousin, Max)! LOVE the green witch’s hat. LOVE the colorful Halloween goodies. You get my creative juices flowing…thanks!
P.S. The black carved chair is just grand…
Oh, I love Larry too!!! xxx
Oh i definitely want my name in the hat. 🙂 and larry looks like a sweetie. Every time you show glimpses of your surroundings it’ make me really want to see everything as whole. I bet i’d be totally over stimulated and distracted in a good way. 🙂
Oh, that Larry is going to be such a cool cat!
I think he will be a big boy too.
I have heard of other cats liking water but never one that would roll it water.
He’s a keeper alright.
heddy
I’m a new reader of your site and I just absolutely love your pics. You inspire me to be more creative. Larry is a beautiful boy. I’m glad you took him in. So many kitties don’t have a home and people to love them. Hugs from The Oddart Studio in sunny Alabama…

What a sweet new roommate…..
Kimberlee
That is the cutest story! He must LOVE it there! 😉
I love Larry, too–what a sweetheat. He and Douglas remind me (sort of) of Owen and Mzee, whom I just read about yesterday: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owen_and_Mzee
Aw.
I hope you’re having a wonderfully witchy weekend (LOVE the green hat), and please do include me in the goodie bag giveaway!

Well you had me going with your story of Larry, my page got stuck in loading zone right before the big reveal of his furry face! I was left imagining all sorts of things!
I was pleasantly surprised to see his fluffiness appear! He is quite a catch!
Your post as always was delightful, dearie. And yes, you can drop my name in the hat!
xoxoxoxox,
Melissa
Larry is gorgeous. I loooove kitties but can’t have one right now because my roommate is allergic. Just the puppy dog for me, for now. But as soon as I don’t live with that particular roommate anymore… KITTEH!
Fab decorations, btw.
Larry is fabulous. So are your witches. And your yard!
There is no friendship like that of an animal, Larry is a Charmer!
=^..^=
Sandra Evertson

Larry is a doll! I LOVE LOVE LOVE cats, as you know, and couldn’t imagine being allergic to them. I’m glad that you and Kristen gave Larry a home. Hooray!
The Halloween prize sounds neat but I will opt out. You see… I really don’t like Halloween and never EVER participate or celebrate it. Pooh on me, I know.
Great to be back and reading blogs again!

I would love a goodie bag! And Larry too! He seems sweet. I’m so glad he’s with you now.
We love Larry!
Smiles,
kari & kijsa
I love kitties and Larry is adorable. I would lose my heart to him in an instant. Your Wicked banner is great. You are such a busy gal….back and forth all the time, and yet you manage to do so much art!!
Allergic too. very. But, I had one cat growing up that I liked anyway. He adopted us. He was a great hunter.. (he took a seagull right out of the air once). He played pranks on me… like once when we owned this ginormous embarassing van, he was napping in the sun on the back seat and I didn’t know it. I must have startled him when I started the engine, but imagine how frighted I was to hear a screeching and then look in the rear-view mirrow to see this red-mouthed, green eyed monster flying at me. He was the biggest most beautiful all black tom cat I’ve ever seen. He got in lots of fight all the time, but never had a scratch on him. So why did I like this big bad bully… I have a handicapped brother who mauled him all the time… petted him by smashing him flat to the ground, pulled his ears and tail and that cat never hissed at him or scratched him once. He’s my only cat love story. His name was “Cat” like the cat in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Larry is an amazingly handsome cat.
Fun, funky, and inspirational site – thank you for sharing.
a wart-covered cat lady with over-stuffed bags…hmmmm…you are starting to scare me…
oh my- what fun – im on my way to pick up my young boys – but when i come back id love to share some champagne with you- you fun fantastic girl you- la la la ..mm well im thinking of an old tattered cream velvet chair, yes old fadded crem with icing blue spots- mmm
wait his name is Larry and his job is to be charming and funny….are you sure you are not talking about Larry from Three’s Company….in a secret cat form…
come on, you can tell me.
Oh, Larry is such a pretty kitty! I can see how anyone might fall in love. We have two beautiful felines of our own that we are madly in love with.
We would love to have our names in the hat for the halloween gift bag thingee 🙂 Happy unpacking!
Oh, I was worried when you talked about falling in love with a new man. Mr. Lovee can not be replaced. The four legged Larry is a cute little gentleman though. Mr. Lovee, should you feel like your place is being usurped by a cat feel free to pull my name and pick me for the Halloween goodies. I will be sure to set Vanessa straight about who is the real lovee in her life. ;o)
What a cute little Tiger!
Damnit Fancy Pants! Whatdja have to go and get me all excited for on a early Monday morning when I have tasks and stuff to do? Now all I can think about is WHO came to my house and painted that portrait of me with the blue stripey background. (huh? who?) And how long is Larry’s tail? I need an exact measurement please. Not for me. It’s the cat posse. They want to know so they can compare.
Larry is so very handsome. And has so much personality!! I was just saying to a friend that I am such a cat woman because I am always telling some silly story about my cat who either thinks he is a human…or a tiger…depending on the day.
Oh! And I love the green witch hat on your sister!
Have a great week!
Kim
Yippee a give away…. I love checking your blog everyday. Somedays you make me laugh out loud. Cris
Were it that we lived closer, I would have our Puma, Franky, make friends with your new little love Larry. Oh and perhaps they’re kin as Franky has one of the longest tails I’ve ever seen.
And here’s to the witches brew!
Cheers,
Hello Gypsy lady! Actually, you know one Hallowe’en a long time ago, yours truly was a gypsy for a night of trick or treating. It was the last costume i wore while a young tricker treater!! Since then, i have been to a few parties as a Rocky Horror Show party attendee, Spock from Star Trek and i think i was Cat Woman at a party once. Cat woman is my alter ego! Rawwr!
So Dahling Vanessa, i see you have many many comments, so your contests are getting harder and harder….sigh. My chances are very slim this time, but all hope is not lost. I will think postive and Hallowe’eny thoughts!
And I love love love Larry!! How could he be left behind!!! But how wonderful that he is loved by you!!!! He is a beautiful kitty!! I think Larry must think that he is actually a dog, hence the reason for his love of water and friendliness with the mini dobby. Ta Dahling!
AW that’s the cutest kitty!!! I’d love a shot at the goodie bag…hehe
oh my sweet…how cute is Larry
what an adorable little face…
loving your sister’s new hair colour too!!
hellow busy, busy one! with a kitty of my own in my lap, please allow me to compliment larry! what a handsome striped boy. it’s too bad you’re allergic. please don’t let that stop you from cuddling with him. take a benedryl first! then the two of you can snooze together…
xxo0o
Larry is sooo adorable! 🙂
How lucky you are to have a new little love in your life!! Larry is gorgeous, and it looks like he is full of personality, too! I’m allergic to cats as well (I’m allergic to everything!), so I definitely feel your pain about not being able to have a cat. I love how they walk by and rub against your leg, but even that makes me itchy, sigh… Oh well, Miss Ruby Roo is a handful enough by herself – I can’t imagine adding a kitty into the mix anyway. And she is too much of a princess to share mom with anyone else! 🙂
my birthday is halloween gotta love it
