Oh oh, it finally happened!
Autumn twirled in, in its own fine time.
Sauntering right into the desert in mid November.
The pecan trees are turning.
Hooooray, hurrah!
I love change of weather.
I have been hanging gobs of basil around the kitchen for weeks.
Then crumbling it into a huge bowl and then into jars when it is paper dry.
There have been sweet and salty pestos savored a plenty.
The lasts are always the best.
Oranges are turning, well, orange.
I love standing in this spot and watching the oranges and tree in the backdrop turn in unison.
As you can tell, I also have stolen one too many oranges from this side of the tree.
You won't believe this.
Yesterday I collected huge bowl of herbs and tomatillos in the garden.
It looked like this.
3 beds overflowing with basil still.
And then, last night the temps dropped a ton.
Because this morning, they looked like this.
Just like that.
With no real warning.
They froze.
It wasn't supposed to freeze.
Bizarre Arizona.
As did….
The pumpkin vines.
Which worries me because this was happening yesterday…
The most giant of all pumpkins still turning.
This one looks water colored to me.
With lots of new littles, see them hanging around in the photo below?
Little green babies.
Over a dozen newbies.
And just like that.
It's over.
Granted, a few pumpkin leaves did pop back up today.
And with the warmest sun midday, they might finish ripening.
But tonight it will be cold up here where the desert meets the forest.
It was about 66' today.
So, we are now entering the realm of coolness.
But not snow, like most of you.
However, mass baking ensues.
Yumm yuummm.
It's the season for making lots of crisps.
Mister Lovee's faves.
We have a few new peach trees grown from our own peach pits.
We planted them today.
A little late, but hopefully all will be well.
And now, we wait until next year.
Which is not so far away is it?
Time is slippin' into the future.
Like, for real.
And for fast.
But right now, it's autumn in the desert.
Finally, I get to see leaves in colors on my walks through the garden.
Mister pumpkin head has a proper back drop.
As he watches out over the mountains.
Homemade soups are being whipped up.
And enjoyed on these brisk days.
Wanna be rain clouds gift beautiful sunsets.
Unaltered photo.
As we settle into a new season.
In a true way.
It's wonderful, I love it!!
Maybe now I can be inspired to finish some christmas art I am working on.
Because the 80' weather was not making it easy 🙂
Also, I wanted to say, THANK YOU to those who entered the magic shoes giveaway.
You really really get it!!
I love my kindred friends! xoxo
So, the winner of the shoes, after removing my comments and the folks who said to leave them out if the shoes were not their size, was #14.
Which is…..
Susan Alexander.
Susan, hoooooray! you won, please email me your mailing address!
YAY!
That was fun!
Well, I best be on my way to make myself useful.
Like by cuddling dogs or something.
🙂
More fun to come!!
Looove, V
ps: Here is a silly smiley picture of me I found recently.
I didn't even know it had survived through life.
It's a bad cell phone pic taken a few years ago.
I went a couple years where I wore that necklace all the time.
Everyday.
Now witchy wears it.
My hair was not that blonde, just the sun shining bright on me.
It was fun to find these, even though Mister made me cut him out.
He did look funny 🙂
I kept those for myself.
I love finding memories in old phones.

I love your dreamy gardens. Such beautiful pictures. Happy autumn!!!
Homemade soup…pesto…yumm! (I think I have some leftover pesto in the freezer – must go looking for it!)
What a great post, you caught that autumn light and the feel of fall – and what a cute picture of you!
Love the photo about three-quarters of the way down with the birdcage in the foreground and the yellow leaves in the background – the contrasts are striking!
Happy Autumn!
P.S. – How long did it take the little peach tree to go from seed to that size? Just curious.
P.P.S. – Yay for Susan!
P.P.P.S. – Could this comment be more random and jump around just a little bit more? : )
Autumn has been here for a while now but it has come late this year. The leaves are really starting to shrivel up now, unfortunately.
So nice that you have pecan trees! They’re very expensive here! We have a lot of blackberries though. I think a lot of people have their own favourite spot where they like to go blackberry picking, and that they don’t like sharing with anyone else! My mother used to make blackberry pie out of my berries. Yumm!

Our high today is going to be in the low 30s. I found a new basil plant starting between the patio bricks yesterday but now it is probably dead. I saved the seeds from the last plant (one that had shown up on it’s own from in another plant) and started some in a pot to keep in the house this winter. Hopefully they’ll sprout. I have lots of sunny places to keep them happy. And more seeds saved for springtime planting outside. 🙂 Enjoy your Arizona Autumn!
love & blessings

ps…congrats to Susan!
pps…i told you those basil seeds of yours are magick
ppps…hugs & kisses to the puppers!
Your Fall garden looks lovely, Vanessa. I woke up to snow yesterday morning. It was forecast, but I still had hoped it would be wrong! It is way too early for snow and I am not ready for it until it is at least closer to Christmas time. I just hate driving in it. I hope you will get to take those pumpkins and they don’t get freeze damage. Your picture looks great. You’re such a beautiful girl and the sun shining on you does make you look really blonde.
Congrats to the winner of the shoes! : )
Ahhhh to have a garden and land again would be delightful. It’s always fun for Me to enjoy Your garden and land.We don’t often get to see Your beautiful face-thanks for posting Your photo.A kiss, a peck and a hug around the neck-Denise
I always look forward to reading your bog and seeing all your wonderful photos. You have such a wonderful way with descriptions.
You look so beautiful and happy in that picture! It’s been a long time since I last commented here, but of course that I haven’t stopped reading your posts!
We’re entering summer here in the southern hemisphere, so I’m embracing the heat!
P.S: The sky in Arizona is DREAMY!!!!!
Oh Ms Vanessa, Autumn in Arizona looks wonderful, all the wonderful smells and sites that that goes along with it. Here in Michigan, we got hit with 10 inches of snow with 19 degree (f).I am sitting in front of the fireplace warming myself and sipping hot chocolate.
I hope all is well for your family. I love seeing a photo of you.
.
What a beautiful picture of you! You are such a bright shining gal! I can’t believe that now that you’ve gotten Autumn I’m buried in 2 feet of snow. We will never be on the same page weather wise you and I heehee!
My family in Oklahoma had a TON of snow yesterday and more today, enough that it made the national news. Brrrrrr! While in Florida we’re dipping into the mid 30’s and 40 degree temps – which is chilly for us. The sunset in winter time when we’ve had a cold snap is STUNNING and really vibrant with loads of hot pink, orange, vivid purple and deep indigo blue as well. You’d love it!
I have yet to start my baking and cooking for the holiday and season. Well, I made pumpkin muffins with a cinnamon glaze, but that really doesn’t count. I bought a huge bag of Persimmons this evening and I want to make a pastry pie with them, what doesn’t end up eaten quickly. Hahaha.
What a beautiful fall your having. I can smell the basil and taste the crisp. Yum! Love the photo of you, just beautiful.
I’m going to be making pickle soup. I didn’t know there was such a thing. But it sure sounds good to me. Especially since it’s cold and snowy here. I wish we could live in such beautiful gardens as yours!
LOVE that photo of Mr. Pumpkin keeping watch!
Your soup and crips look scrumptious!!! Lucky Mr. L!
I sure hope your pumpkins survive Vanessa! Crazy weather, yikes it was sooo nice a couple days ago! Enjoy your lovely autumn! 😉
Autumn! Blessed, blissful autumn! Ours is gone now–so do enjoy yours!
Hurray for Autumn!!!! Lovely photos! Especially of you! xo Jen
