Honesty + Life

This is such a hard blog post to write.

Typing this makes everything going on in my world more real…

Butterfly 1

You see, after a week of tears, fear, confusion, ER and meeting a surgeon…

 The fact is…

In a few weeks I have to have the first surgery of my life.

If I ever get brave enough, I might share some more details.

I can say that the prognosis in the end is said to be good, and the recovery will be a few weeks.

I’m scared, but I have vast faith keeping me from drowning.

Butterfly 2

I don’t know how much I will be able to do work/art wise for the holidays etc.

In the few weeks before my surgery, I am rearranging my house to make it easier for my family to visit.

I am not sure if I will have time for art, but I do have some paintings I would like to finish before I am gone for a few weeks.

I guess all I can do now is go with the flow, and somehow find a way to deal with these stomach pangs of nerves.

I don’t like to think negatively, life is full of ups and downs, and sometimes you have to just be braver than others.

This is what I keep telling myself.

Love, Vanessa

Sparkly heart

ps:  Two originals in the shop have been priced lower  🖤

pss:  I have freshly stocked the Halloween and Christmas sections of my art shop.

    Dearest Vanessa:
You are always such an inspiration to others. Now…it’s time for you to take some time off and let your family give you the care that you need.
I know in my heart that you will come out of this just fine. But, I also know that hospitals and surgeries are so so scary. I have a wee germ phobia, so hospitals scare the guts out of me. But, you’re in good hands and your faith will carry you through. Before you know it, you’ll be back in action and planning your spring 2014 garden!
Now…I’m on my way over to that sale of yours.

  2. Queenie says:

Ah sweetie, I’m soooo sorry you have to have surgery and are going through this tough time. Please be assured of my continued thoughts and prayers for successful surgery and complete, timely healing. It’s OK to be scared and cry. Let me encourage you to frequently lay the pain and scary feeling in God’s hands. You will be graced with peace of heart as you face this challenge. Pull your fur babes close and family closer for they will keep you safe and surrounded you with love.
The Delicious and I send our love.
    Always, Queenie

  3. Sweet Miss V. I am not sure what you are faced with but I do know that with faith all things are possible. I am keeping you close in my prayers. You bring so much light and joy to those around you, and that includes those of us that hover around you in the cyberspace. If you need someone to vent to, you know that I will be there for you. For now, just do what you need to do to be healthy and let the rest go. I am sending showers of love and light your way. Peace, too, for whatever path this will take you down. Find a way to find that ‘something good’ in every day. I promise that will make every thing settle and fall into place and put your mind at ease. Know that you are in my heart. Enjoy the day. Erin

  4. Tricia says:

What a nerve-wracking and scary time this is for you. Sending prayers and good wishes your way. ~Tricia

  5. Brandi D. says:

I don’t comment often, though I’m a regular reader of your blog, but I wanted to be sure that you knew I will be thinking of you and wrapping you in healing thoughts for the next few months.

  6. I’m so sorry to hear you are going through this, Vanessa. Hopefully, the surgery will help you though. I remember when I found out a partial hysterectomy was the only way for me to not live with so much pain every month. Even on Vicodin it was very painful and I couldn’t see myself taking Vicodin every month for 10 years. My only other option was this surgery. I was so upset at the time, but it worked out fine for me. I’ll be thinking of you and praying for a speedy recovery for you!

  7. kristy says:

Sending you love and postive energy. Make sure to take it easy and be kind to yourself, let your loved ones help you. xx Kristy

  8. Oh Vanessa, I’m so sorry you’re having such a hard time. Surgery and a long recovery sounds rough, but I’m glad you will have your family around you. I wish you strength and a speedy recovery!

  9. Sweet Vanessa, I am so sad to hear you are going through this!
I know it is so scary-I had my first (and hopefully last!) surgery at this time
last year. I never expected it & it was a major life change for me.
I know what a wonderful family you have & know you will be well cared for
while you heal. I just wanted you to know, that even though I don’t comment as
much as I used to, I still enjoy visiting with you here & enjoying your beautiful
work & life that you selflessly share with us!!
I’ll be sending you a massive amount of good, healing
thoughts & the best wishes for a speedy recovery. I don’t know
What kind of surgery you are looking at, but if you do need to talk, I am here…
    Lots of love,
    Amber

  10. deb says:

    Oh Vanessa!
I will be thinking about you and winging good thoughts your way….You are surrounded by so many people who love you i cannot see the outcome as anything other than good.Keep in touch when you can….Hugs! deb

  11. Gilli says:

I wish nothing but the best for you. Speedy and full recovery. Time to heal. As a former surgical nurse I have this to say 1- there will be a full surgical team with one thing to do- take care of you. You will be the focus in the room. 2- as you drift off to sleep envision yourself waking up comfortably and peacefully (it will help even a little bit) 3- if pain medication is prescribed, Take It! 4- allow your body to take as much time as it needs to heal and mend, it is wise.

  12. Karen says:

Oh, Vanessa. I knew something was not right. I just felt it because your last post was up for so long. It is okay to worry and cry. You have to get it out. That is how we cope. I am the person who wrote to you about ASEA for Matty. It might be the best thing you can do for yourself now too. As I said, it is the most important health discovery of our lifetime. I have heard over and over how it can help a body prepare for surgery and help with the healing process afterward. Probably because taking ASEA boosts the body’s use of glutathione by over 500%. Glutathione is the body’s master antioxidant. It will help prepare your body for the surgery and help manage the oxidative stress you are under right now. Afterwards it will help you to heal faster than you could ever do without it. I wish so bad I could afford to send you a case right now and get you going on it, but I cannot. The website to check out would be http://www.amazingmolecules.com/product/ and my website is karensholes.3minutepeek.com. Maybe Mr Lovey can look at it for you too. There have been some real miracles with this wonderful stuff! Please take care of yourself and have faith that all is be alright as you go through this difficult time. Let me know if I can help. Karen

  13. Sam says:

    Vanessa,
I’m so sorry to hear about your surgery but I’m sending you lots of positive thoughts!
    Love
    Sam

  14. Kelly says:

Vanessa, I am glad you have FAITH and a wonderful family and friends to see you through this time in your life. I will be adding to the prayers and well wishes coming your way. Stay strong and focus on the many positives you have around you!
These pictures you have posted to share this personal time in your life are just heartfelt. Love to you and know we are in this with you our DEAR Fanciful Friend.<3

  15. Laura says:

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, and hoping for a quick recovery.

  16. Jen says:

Vanessa – so many blessings to you. It’s all a journey, isn’t it – and often not one we’d planned or hoped to take. But your spirit shines through in everything you do, and I have no doubt you’ll sail through this too. I’ll be stopping by your shops tonight when I get home from work. Your postcards are my favourite things to write notes on & give!
    Hugs & healing to you.
    Jen

  17. Whatever it is, whatever it will be, my prayers surround you, brave creative free spirit girl. You will be surrounded by love and prayers to last a lifetime. May your beautiful spirit shine your light ahead to give you courage, grace and gentle healing.

  18. Margot says:

Vanessa – I am a frequent reader who never posts comments, but I wanted to let you know that I send all my best wishes for a speedy recovery. Life often throws up obstacles for us – they feel like tests of our emotional and physical strength and endurance – we get through them somehow. You are surrounded by people who love you and who will tend to you, your garden and your fur babies as you heal and gain your strength. Love to you. Margot

  19. Oh my sweet Vanessa, I’m sorry you are feeling so apprehensive. I know how scary it is though and I will say extra prayers just for you. You’re a strong young woman and you’ll do great! Sending you bunches of hugs! Please let me know if there is anything else I can do. We’re friends! Sweet hugs, Diane

  20. Meredith says:

    Vanessa,
I’m mostly a lurker on your site, which I adore!, but I wanted to post an “I’ll be thinking about you!”. Sending tons of flowery beautiful thoughts your way and will be wishing you a very speedy recovery. ((HUGS)) to you and will be anxiously waiting to hear your doing well. There’s always something to learn in these times about ourselves that we wouldn’t know unless we went through it. Stay in the moment and breathe doll. We’re all here for ya!
    Meredith

  21. Mette says:

I`m so sorry to hear that you`re facing such difficult times.
Take care of yourself Vanessa. I`ll be sending you lots of warm hugs and positive thoughts 🙂

  22. Vanessa, my dearest girl, I’m really sorry that you have to face hard times. But so many people in the whole wide world are thinking and praying for you. And you have your family around you, that’s the most important. So I wish you the best for the surgery and your recovery. And I think we all will be happy to read your first post after this time. And maybe it will be sooner than you’re thinking at the moment. Lots of love for you!

  23. Linda Diane says:

Oh, sweet and precious Vanessa! You are such a special lady, and I am now getting tears in my eyes at the very thought of your facing such an unexpected thing in your beautiful world which you so generously share with us.
Please know that your name will be uttered again and again as I lift you up in prayer, asking the Lord for a successful surgery, for the surgeon’s hands to be carefully guided, for your fears to be calmed, and for a complete recovery.
We love you here! You know that! Sending lots of love along with a gentle hug and a kiss on the cheek to my sweet Vanessala.

  24. Hi Vanessa…..read this wonderful heartfelt post of yours. Life does thrown us some nasty curves once in a while….but all will turn our all right in the end. I’m sure of it.
    I’m thinking of you.
    Jo

  25. Lisa says:

I’ll keep you in my prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. 🙂

  26. Alia says:

I will be sending all my happy and positive thoughts your way. I just know you will come out of this okay! I know you will have your family and Lovee around to help you, but if you need anything extra at all just let me know. In addition to good vibes I can actually do practical things to help as well since we live in the same town. Also, tea is very good for feeling better so if you need any particular kinds just say the word and I will send them on up!

  27. Misha says:

Vanessa – I hope the surgery isn’t too invasive and all will be well. I’ve had two major surgeries and it’s always nerve wracking.
I’m sending you the best wishes that you’ll heal quickly. Just know that all of your friends and family are wrapping you in tons of love and loads of HUGS!

  28. Michele kastner says:

You keep the faith, ok ? Prayers and love to you baby girl.

  31. Jenn says:

I am so sorry to hear about this Vanessa. Please do not be afraid, everything will be turn out well. Please post updates as I will be worried about you! The posts don’t need pictures, just a line or two to tell us how things are. I’m sure I’m not the only one who will be worried. So much love to you <3 You have a team of the loveliest caretakers who will be watching over you.

  32. Deborah says:

Oh my Beloved Muse; praying, never ceasing. Lifting you up to The One Who knows all needs. May The Lord, God, bless you abundantly during your time of need. May you feel the arms of our Blessed, Most Holy Mother Mary, around you. May the Peace of Christ enfold you so deeply that you have a knowing in your very soul that no matter the problem or the outcome, that you understand life will be okay afterwards…not that the problem does not exist, but that in spite of it, life will be okay. The life and the Light of Christ can never be extinguished. Sending you all my love on the wings of a desert sparrow,
    Deborah

  33. Deborah says:

Oh, such a beautiful prayer. 🖤

  34. Everything is going to be fine, sis. I’ll be with you every step of the way.
You know the way you used to style my hair and do my makeup when I was a kid?… well, now I get to do it to you and there is nothing you can do about it…. Mwuahahahahahahaha!
All kidding aside, though, I know I can speak for our fab five (the fam), when I say that we got your back and we’ll be taking care of you. I bet you’ll recover faster than you think.

  35. Dear Vanessa, I am another lurker peeking out to say I will be sending you love and prayers. Having something like this come suddenly is always scary, but I know you will be just fine and come through it all with courage and grace. Your joie de vivre will see you through as well as the love of your family. Miles and Matty will take good care of you!

  36. I will be with you every step of the way, sis.
Remember when you used to make me sit still so you could style my hair and do my makeup?… well, now, I get to do that to you, and there is nothing you can do about it… mwuahahahahaha!
All kidding aside, though, it will all work out fine and you know you the fab five (the fam) has got your back. We’re with you every step of the way. You’ll probably recover faster than you think.

  37. laura says:

Just remember that we are all here for you, your blog friends and family! We love you and will support you any way we can. Prayers, candles, healing energy all coming your way. Try not to worry, as I can attest the waiting and worrying for the actual procedures/tests/surgeries are much worse than the event itself.
    love & blessings
    ~*~

  38. Stephanie says:

    Dear Sweet Vanessa,
Sending you much love and prayers. We all you love you so much! Take care of yourself and let everything else go. Let Go…. The Divine is working everything out.
    Love, Steph

  39. sweet vanessa, i am so sorry to hear about this. i know what you are going through – i had my first (and hopefully last!) surgery about this time last year. it was major and i was scared as can be, but everything went better than expected.
i know you are scared, and but i know everything is going to be fine, and you are so lucky to have such a wonderful and loving family to help you out and give love and support during your recovery!!
i know i haven’t been commenting as much here as i used to, but i still pop over from time to time to see how you are doing, and i always enjoy reading about your wondeful art and life!!
you are a true joy in an increasingly negative world.
i don’t know what kind of surgery you are having, but if you need to talk, i am here…i will be sending you all the best wishes for a speedy recovery!!
    xoxo,
    amber
ps…i tried to post earlier from my phone, but it doesn’t seem to be here. i hope i haven’t posted twice….

  40. Danee Kaplan says:

Vanessa, I’m so sorry you are going through this. Health is a fleeting thing…. I know only too well. I write this as I have been basically bed ridden for the last- well, almost year- with a mystery illness. I don’t believe it to be serious- just awful to deal with and a quality-of-life issue. But this isn’t about me…it’s about you. It will be over soon and you will be moving toward recovery with your loved ones by your side. I say this to you with the understanding that when I had to have brain surgery, I was a mess inside, so I get your anxiety. I even wrote a long letter to my daughter in case I didn’t make it-it was a procedure that had like a 0.000001% chance of having anything bad happen even though they cut my head open. Relatively health people don’t actually die in surgery very often, but I was terrified….and I am a nurse.
Post op is never fun….ever. It makes me wonder about the mental stability of people who get cosmetic surgery for vanity reasons. I guess my point is that 1. I am (we readers are) thinking about you, 2. that being anxious and stressed with surgery itself is normal but really it will be fine, 3. your first few days post op will suck bad but then start to slowly get better (and I say all this not knowing what you are actually dealing with). Hang in there. It will soon be a distant memory and you will be back making the world beautiful again.

  41. Melanie says:

    Dearest Vanessa,
How upsetting to hear you are going through yet another trial. You will be well taken care of in the hospital, and thankfully at home by your beloved family. I agree with a commenter above – it’s better to prevent pain then to relieve it in this situation. I had my first surgery when I was 43 years old. And while it is not something you would volunteer for,I can tell you the anticipation is always worse. Positive thoughts, hugs and prayers are with you. Can you feel the love from all of us? Even lurkers are coming out to wish you all the best which is what you deserve. Remember: “If you’re going through hell, keep going. ”
    ~ Winston Churchill
We love you! Looking forward to your full recovery and return to all you love.

  42. Cori G. says:

Oh my beloved Fanciful Friendling, you have been on my heart and mind of late. I know that I can’t begin to imagine what you are going through or the fears that are tormenting your thoughts. But I know that there is One who holds your heart and life in His hands. I know that He cares for you so deeply that He gave up His own life to draw you close to Him. I know that He can also calm the raging storm in your heart and drive away your fears.
My prayer for you, sweet Vanessa, little sister of my heart, is that He will give you a peace like you have never known.
I love you, Vanessa, and will continue to pray for you.
    Big hugs!
    Cori

  43. Oh my love, I am sorry and I know how scary surgery is so please know you are being held in my thoughts and prayers with much love! Sending you hugs through time and space to the other side of the country – can you feel them? I can and I know you will just as the fears begin to overwhelm and i hope it helps even a tiny bit. The waiting ahead of time is the worst! You are an inspiring, lovely soul whom I love a great deal! Please keep us posted when you’re able to. Healing coming your way… And so much love!

  44. Renee says:

I’m so sorry to hear you are having a scary surgery. You will be in my prayers. May your recovery be quick.

I do wish you all good things with you sales and especially with your health.
I will be praying for you and as a Quaker says: Holding you in the light as you
    return to full health.
    Hugs,
    Marilyn

    Deborah

  53. We all are with you, you do know that? Your magic wont let you down! Your in my Prayers creative heart! xoxoxoDebi

  54. Gioncarla says:

Oh Vanessa, I am sending prayers, love and healing thoughts your way. You are such an inspiration to everyone but now is the time we can really give back to you. It is a pleasure to do so!
Try to stay calm and think on plans for after you are fully healed and feeling better than you do today, when it is all done and over with! It will be so!
I will be believing and looking forward to that time for you as well. With all the love one person can have for another even though we have never met in person, I will be one of a great many, believing in you and your healing and rejoicing when the news comes that you are well! 🙂
    xoxo
    Gigi

  55. Barbara says:

    Vanessa!
Much love, courage, and cups of virtual tea your way.
Sounds like there are many of us holding you in our hearts. Think of that: sail through surgery, heal swiftly and painlessly, and be back in your garden with the pumpkin and fur babies soon 🙂
    xoxo

  56. I am so sorry and know how scary it can be. I never had surgeries until I turned 40 and was hit like a ton of bricks with serious illness and challenges, and 3 surgeries later … here I am! I know it’s scary, but you will be OK. I just know it. Have faith and get in touch with whatever gives your spirit strength. You will learn so much about your self and come out the other side, even more amazing than you already are! Give yourself some sort of daily rituals and take heart … I know it’s hard to imagine but coming out of these things … getting through them … we are given so many gifts. You might think that sounds crazy right now (I would have) but after getting through it, and even in the process, the gifts of love and spirit will come to you.
Sending blessings and hugs and much light your way for speedy healing and recovery!
(Oh and take lots of probiotics when you get out and have someone sterilize the remote, the phone and the buttons on the bed while you are in there)

  57. lisa says:

Scary business indeed, but have faith that all will go smoothly! I have had a number of surgeries, and the anticipation of it is FAR WORSE than the actual experience. Sending you prayers, love, and all manner of positive juju! Bask in the love and enjoy the post surgical pampering by your loved ones.
    xo,
    Lisa

  58. Sarah says:

    Vanessa,
I so hope it goes as easily as possible and the recovery is a swift one. It is completely understandable that you are nervous since
this is an entirely new experience for you. With surgery, one gives up so much control so it is important there is no question you should not ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! And continue to do so during your recovery.
Allow yourself time to heal, be with family, fur family and friends.
Sending good thoughts and wishes to you.
    Sarah
(Ironically – I’m having surgery tomorrow. Only the second time in my whole 50 years. Minor stuff – but still a little nervous – I think it is part of the process.)

  59. marjorie says:

You have so many friends….and so many wonderful folks in your life….you are much much loved! And I know you will be fine and get better soon!! Thank You for being so open and sharing, as you by no means had to! You will be much in my thoughts, and I’m sending you all the well wishes I can from across the lands for your surgery! Your such a dear friend!! Please rest and feel better and get better soon!!

  60. Heather says:

    Oh Miss Vanessa,

  62. Carrie says:

Please know that your in my heart and prayers, and like so many others I will be sending you positive thoughts and wishes! and maybe an angel or 2!! May you find the healing that you need during this time. Sending you and your family (furs included!) lots of love, healing, and good thoughts.
    Fondly,
    Heidianna Aka Coriander

  65. devil mood says:

Vanessa, you are going to be just fine!
I know it’s scary and that you would give anything to be able to stay in your lovely home with your beautiful family and wish the problem would go away. But you are brave and so you are going forward with this and it will be okay. I know you will be taken care of, so I hope you will be back here soon 🙂
    Lots of hugs!

  66. Miss Linda says:

Dear Miss Vanessa, It’s ok to be nervous, if we weren’t we wouldn’t be human. My family and I are sending positive thoughts and prayers now and throughout your preparation, surgery, and of course healing. Try to think positive and be strong, and remember your family and friends are going through this with you. You bring such positive comments to our needs and now it’s our turn to be there for you.

  67. sharon says:

Vanessa, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I made it to 51 without surgery-had the first one ever…followed by a second one a year later. I KNOW the fears–but God is good and will see you through. As long as you trust your doctor and he/she LISTENS…you’re golden! Rest, relax, have some fun easy artsy things you can do while you recover…it will be over before you know it. If you need a listening ear, just e-mail. Blessings, Sharon

  68. Mo'a says:

My dear Vanessa, I know from experience what you are going through. I also know that you will go through this with grace and strength.
You are much loved both here in cyber space and from what I have seen, here on your blog, by your friends and family. The glow from this much love is healing.
That is what has always gotten me through and still does. I will be thinking of you and praying that all will go well for you.
Much love and many xoxo’s Mo’a

    Wende S

  70. Karol says:

Since all of us that only know and love you through your blog cannot be there with you we are sending our hugs and best wishes for a speedy recovery through our thoughts and e-mails. You are such an inspiration to truly live life and I hope your positive energy and the love of your family will bring peace to you before the surgery and healing times after the surgery.
Keeping you close in my thoughts and prayers.

    Vanessa,
We’re going to miss you while you’re recouping, but don’t worry we want you to get well and be back 100%. Prayers to you that all will go well, and your surgery is successful. Let your family take care of you and don’t do anything you’re not suppose to, so can get well soon!

  72. Rachel says:

So sorry to hear this V. I’m sure though that once you’ve fully recuperated you will be 100% more Vannessa-ery. 🙂
Sending you lots of love and sparkly kisses.
    Rachel xx

I forgot to say you should not worry about your blogs. What is important is that you get well and take the time you need to recuperate. We will be patiently waiting and will joyfully welcome you back upon your return!

  74. Shell says:

Lady V, I know everything is going to work out fine. Your surgery will go smooth and you will be home before you know it. We are all cheering you on. Sending you much love, my friend.

  75. Debbi says:

Vanessa, I’ve had surgery more than once and the very worst part is the dread of it. It feels so good to just get it over with and know that you will feel so much better than you did before. Your posts are so uplifting and inspiring to us all, just know that there are lots of us out here who are pulling for you and wishing for you a very speedy recovery!

  76. Lauren says:

One more from-the-heart wishing of wellness and healing – and raising my tea cup to your being stronger and more in-tune with the weird and wonderful ways of the world than ever.
    <3 and Luck.

Oh Miss V! Sending you lots of prayers for an “easy” surgery day and a full and speedy recovery.
I had a major surgery in January, so very well know the fear and nerves you are experiencing. I used my recovery time well – sketching, visiting with friends, family and fur babies (they get it and know just how to cuddle you up), catching up on favorite movies and series, reading everything in sight, making delish smoothies and getting lots of rest. Truth is that when it was over, I was disappointed I didn’t have MORE “me” time…..hahahaha.
I know you’re well loved so will have lots of attention from your peeps – soak it up girl!

    dear vanessa
i have been silently viewing your blog for a long time now. i am an artist living in goa, india.
    u are such an inspiration.
i just wanted to wish you luck for the next few weeks. U WILL BE FINE.
sometimes when my stomach is caught up in nerves i do some buddhist chanting. you can download the application and you dont even have to chant yourself but listening to it helps those nerves be replaced by a sense on calm.
    be well.
    🙂

Seems like when I left my last comment, on a newer post, I hadn’t read back far enough. So you’re not going on a trip, per se, but you indeed will be taking a break.
I will keep you in my thoughts and light candles for you. ^-^
Your family, both the human and the furry, will take the best care of you. And you will have so many of us all sending you good thoughts and good wishes and our love. You will be back to your old self before you know it, and you will be able to look back at how strong you were, and how courageous for going through something scary, but still doing it.
I don’t know what kind of surgery you’ll be having, but let yourself take it easy afterward. For people who have lots to do, this can be even harder than the surgery itself, so let yourself be taken care of. You deserve it, my sweet.
You are very brave, and we will all be thinking of you & eagerly waiting for your return to blogland.
Love & hugs by the barrel full. ^-^
    XOXO

You are in my prayers. I have had a few surgeries… I know how scary it is. But modern medicine is wonderful and we are so blessed to have it! We are so blessed to live at the time we do! It will all be okay. Just take time to rest and recover afterwards…. that is so important. It will be done and you will be home before you know it! I had oral surgery on Monday…. so I’ve been whiney…. getting implants (3) in a few months…. it’s a pain no matter what you are going through. Let’s hold one another’s hand. Looking forward to your return. So glad I stopped by tonight.
