Finding Autumn {or – Finding your Inner Witch}

Don't you just hate it when you can't make that one important decision in the morning right after you wake up?  The decision should be simple, Queen or Witch?  Which one do you want to be for the day?

  Vanessa_valencia_in_crown_1

I lift my head off the pillow, feet dangling off the side of the bed.  And I wonder, "Off with their heads" or "Fetch the book" what kind of day will it be?  And then of course, I start to think well, but, I haven't scrunched myself into my sugar plum fairy costume for a while.  Maybe I need to do some good deeds?  Decision Dilemmas.  True life dilemmas.  They shouldn't get any more complicated than that…

So, I do as all of you do.  I stare at my drawer and wonder.  Black tights?  Teal Tights?  Fuchsia tights?  Black and white striped tights?  What do I want to wear today?  I make a decision, and again, do what we all do, put on 3 layers of ruffles and ask the hobgoblins for my morning cake…  😉

I decide to face the day, and see what is has for me…

I step outside, et voila!  Fall is at the tip of my toes, and it tells me it is the perfect day to find my inner witch.

    Wicked_16

I can't seem to get my broom started.  So I jump on my bike, and head out to collect.

       Wicked_2

But first I make sure I have all my supplies…

      Wicked_10

So, I am zooming along, thinking, hmmm, what do good witches do?  Make Spells?  Do good deeds?  Turn mean husbands into toads?  Turn mice into kind loving nanny housekeeper wonderwomen, for grown up girls?

       Wicked_12

I have the most giant huge outrageous super old book.  I can't give it all away now, but it has some really gooooood stuff.  Especially in the witchy realm.  So, I visit it for some ideas, and then know just what I need…

First ingredient stop…

       Wicked_13

Filling up my basket with all kinds of goodies…

  Wicked_17

Autumn was truly all around me.  It was a bit windy and there was no longer that painful heat enveloping me.  Summer was inching away for certain…

       Wicked_19

I collected some precious treasures, and grinned.  Wanting to embrace every bit of fall.  Soaking it in, to fulfill myself, for it goes by way to quickly…

  Wicked_11

Once I had gathered all of the things I needed for my good spell (not really, but play along with me here), I headed back to get to work…

  Wicked_4

And in no time at all…

       Wicked_15

My precious dog was turned into a Gnome, with rabbit ears!! ;)  I was actually trying to turn my hedge into Javier Bardem, but I kind of messed up I think…

I suppose I will have to get down to some serious spellbook studies before the party…

       Wicked_18

Now, in real life news.  It was an mad week!!  In town, drama, shopping & shop update!!  I really enjoyed working on this shop update…  Mr.  Lovee took some sneaky shots while I worked last week…

      Wicked_21

       Wicked_22

He is notorious for sneaking up on me.  And I always scream like a banshee!!

       Wicked_20

Might I just say, many of you showed up at the shop update, and I can't ever thank you enough!!  A girl works her little heart out creating the things she loves, and to have support for all her endeavors is more than dreamy!!  Merci beaucoup!!

I had a lovely time in town this week.  The serious business stuff, turned out to be really painless in the end (organization is key).  Then I met Mammie for some serious shopping.

It started with a Gypsy caravan, or at least that is what I dreamed it to be.   It was awesome nontheless…  You could see swords and props through the windows…

       Wicked_7

I am on my way to meet Mammie, when, the Gypsy Caravan bus, happens to be parked just where I am headed to!!

       Wicked_6

Then, me and my giant bag…

       Me_into_the_real_world

Meet Mammie at Borders…

       Wicked_3

Where I get to see my lil' cover love of Art Doll Quarterly and Artful Blogging, in the store, for the first time since they came out…  You know, to prove to me that I wasn't just dreaming…

There is Mombie, looking and sipping…

       Wicked_5

We then shop, until I can no longer feel my feet.  Plus, picking up some of my treasures that I needed for the party at the in town house…  Then, I must admit, I hobbled through the last phase of Michael's.  We went to the most magical places…  And that was that, a wonderful special day with the most loveliest person on earth (to me)!!

Well, I guess I have talked your head off, and now I must go on more adventures so I can add to my stories…

       Wicked_1

Oh!  Almost forgot, I popped a variety Halloween postcard pack into the shop.  And I will be giving one away, since I missed this week's thriftventure.  Well, I didn't really miss it, but I am saving the wonderful thing I found, a little while longer…

So, if you leave a comment, I will draw a name, and send that person this postcard pack below (with envelopes)…  I wish I could convey via internet, how lovely the postcards are in person.

       Halloween_cards_assortment

There are a handful of Elfin in the shop, and a bevy of new Halloween treats…  Including this postcard which finally arrived, sheesh that took them forever. Actually, there was more drama involved than that, but I will spare you…

I looove designing cards and things like that.  I could do it all day…

testing this horrible new thing – WHat a nightmare.  the day i have to post for the party.  I can't believe it.  I am going to crack!!

Halloween 1

I am off to carefully package, and add a few more names to the Halloween Party list.  Like I said, it is not too late to sign up.  I am trying to let everyone know as I add them, but I think I am slacking a bit.  I have to say, I am getting to see oodles of wonderful fun charming delicious blogs as I click on them to copy the links.  This is going to be more than fun!!!!

I am off tout de suite, and back soon with some fun!!  Promise! 🖤

ps:  I am watching The Impressionists BBC mini series right now (rented it via Netflix), and I have to say, I am more than pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it is.  Monet is charming!  And to get to see painters like Bazille and Manet, Monet and Cezanne, Renoir and Degas come to life, is so much fun…  I have not finished it, but it is good.  (probably not for little ones)

  1. Velvet Brick says:

I want to be a witch and play in your playland!! What fun and I love the ‘wicked’ on the back of the bike!! : )
    What fun to visit!

  2. *~KRiSTa~* says:

The postcards are so whimsical! They’re darling. And your workshop–*scream* It is so delicious! I wish my studio looked like that. (But I have a lack of space and good lighting, since it’s in my bedroom!)
    xoxo

  3. michelle says:

Could you please whip me up one of those lovely mice turned nanny-housekeepers please? I could really use one! I can’t believe I totally forgot your update! Oh well I probably would have lost whatever treasure I found in my crazy house. Thanks for the lovely autumn adventure, I needed that! I have a feeling I am going to be lucky if I even get to visit the party let alone joing the list. Oh well, guess I should just be happy visiting! Have a great weekend, I am going to add the impresionists to my list! Thanks for the reccomendation!

  4. Nik says:

I have a very witchy skirt I wear on Halloween sometimes, but no witch shoes so far – what a shame. I’ll have to find some this year.
And before I forget again – I want to thank you for that recommendation you gave awhile ago for the book on Frida Kahlo’s wardrobe. I didn’t win the give away so I bought it on Amazon and when it finally came I enjoyed it very much. Such inspiration and beautiful pictures to enjoy again and again. It’s definitely a keeper.
Your postcards look great – Halloween is my favorite time of the year, hands down.
    Have a witchy day!!

  8. rosey says:

  10. I’m still deciding whether to be a witch or a queen today.
No wait, I’m a princess. I always am.
Or a fairy. Possibly a mermaid if that didn’t make walking really difficult.
LOVE the cards, says the halloween-deprived Maria-Thérèse.

  11. Catherine says:

There’s always time in the day to be a witch I find! 😉 Love the postcards! The gypsy caravan is sweet and mysterious. x

  12. Sarah says:

    Hello!
I can’t wait to see what spells you have been cooking up. It looks as if they will be colourful in an autumny way. Will there be one that will do my housework for me?! That is the spell I need today.
I visited the shop as I was tempted to give a little witchey friend a home. I think I was too slow and they had all flown away to far off places! Never mind, another time will do.
I have to decide the night before if I will be a witch or a princess as the morning does not provide enough time for that!
As always it has been a pleasure to visit!

  13. Dawn Newsome says:

I would LOVE to have these postcards. Having fun seeing the progress of the Halloween Party as well. Thanks!
    Dawn

  40. Laura says:

Once when I was sitting outside by some hedges waiting for a ride, a little girl and her father walked past and as they did a huge gust of wind came from nowhere and swirled my long dark hair all around…the girl looked at me and said,”Daddy, look at the witch!”…the father was mortified and said,”Stop, she isn’t witch!” Then the little girl said, “No, daddy, she’s a good witch!” and she smiled at me…I’ve never been so complimented in my life! The shoes you’ve got are the best!

So glad I found your blog after reading Artful Blogger – have been enjoying it for the past month now.
You know, somehow it always seems a little more “fun” to be in “witch” mode on certain days, so please keep a spare broom on hand for me in case I find myself without one some day.
In the meantime, looking forward to your next post and need to add that the Halloween postcards are “witchin”!!!

  54. inge Bekaert says:

    hello Vanessa,
I just “tagged” you… Probably you’ve been tagged before or had several blogawards, you already have a bunch of faithful readers,… but I still wanted to tag you, because I think you’re quite unique…
Not only in writing your posts, but the pictures, the things you create, the parties you host…
So , please take a look at my post of today about the tagging on my website web.me.com/pinkepinke
    greetings
    Inge
PS : by the way, I DID turn my mom into a mommygnome… she irons my clothes and passes through my house when I’m not at home being a housekeeper here and there ,… all to help me “her daughter” so I have more spare time to create….

  55. Inner witch!!!! You are a funny, funny girl! BTW, at my advanced age, I have discovered, after years of being the Sugar Plum Fairy, the witch is a much more gratifying persona and provides me more opportunities for self actualization, but, then, that’s just me!

  56. allie says:

What a TREAT it would be to win your charming Halloween cards! You are so talented! Thanks for the walk through your magical world today……

    Connie

  60. waterrose says:

I had a frog just like the one in your basket on my back porch last week. My dogs were barking and I peeked out to see what was going on and there was this enormous, bumpy frog. It was dark so I couldn’t take a picture and I had DH go out scoop it up and put it in the front yard so the dogs couldn’t get to it…. Must have to do with the spookiness in the night air!

  61. Oh! It’s always so much fun to visit here. I can’t believe I missed the debut of your little ghosts. They’re sooooo cute!

  62. OohLaLaura says:

Ooh! Love the bike bling. By the way, I also want the trike. I’ve been asking oh-so-patiently for one for YEARS. We have a tandem, but it’s kinda hard to ride by oneself.
I will tell you how to turn your hedge into Javier Bardem ONLY if you promise to never clip him. It’s a bit tricky….requires hemlock gathered under a full moon and the pantaloons of a former can-can dancer. On second thought, never mind—it’s a very, very messy smell and the fumes are outrageous. Mister Lovee might get jealous and start polishing his trimmers.

  63. What precious postcards!
I’m looking forward to the party, Witchipoo!
    Becky

  64. sarahblank says:

Ooooo, yes, a witch! Im going to be a witch for halloween! Figured I would be something classic this year. I want to dress up in my costume now…witches are the best! I love love love your white bike, the white dress and the mary jane shoes! Your photos are always so playful and fun (and all the sunshine helps to cheer me up!) and you have the best, best best hair. You are a white witch!
    Have a good Sunday evening!

  66. Lisa says:

What a wonderful and fun post. I actually love those shoes.
Now I have that tune stuck in my head from the wizard of oz when that was played during the scene when the witch was riding away on her bike-lol.

  67. Tawny says:

As always I am leaving a tad jealous of your perfectly witchy life… ahhhh…. but it is always a wonderfully magical way to start the week with a peek into your world!
    Thanks!

  68. sadira says:

Oh V…the Wicked sign about made me fall off the couch! I looooove it on the witches bike…I just hung both of mine up, and cackled the whole while…

  69. Patricia says:

Oh my, if only I could have a ride on that bus !!! It is beautiful. See you at the Halloween Gathering. Have a wonderful new week.

  70. Kandes Lee says:

Witch! Always a witch. Not an Elphaba, though. I am trying to get through reading Wicked. But I had to switch to listening to it on audio so I could do things with my hands while taking in a good “book.” Multitasking is necessary these days.
Hmmm … but maybe Queen. I did have the whole “off with their heads” fantasy when thinking about what I wanted to do with all the mean people who are on my list. Witch/queen … it is a hard choice.

  71. What a wonderful little excursion to find your inner witch. I’d wear the teal stockings myself with a lovely ruffle tiered skirt…what fun we would have…

  72. sherri says:

Although I try to be queenly, I frequently end up being a witch each day. Maybe if I had servants, I would be less witchy!?!

  73. marjorie says:

    Firstly…..I choose Queen AND witch,please!! 😉
Secondly, your Mombie must be so proud of you!!
Thirdly, I want to follow a gypsy caravan!! 🙂

To make this an even 100 posts – thank you for posting about The Impressionists – I have to find a copy to view.

  101. Dearest V
Again, when I should be working, I am in your blog healing my poor brain. As of late, memories of long ago and the loss of my Mum (12 years ago now) have been my day to day haunt. Seemingly, I cannot turn it off…(the haunt or my brain) until I found your blog and your site.
Being here is like visiting all the places I wanted to go when I was a wee girl. To play, imagine, have fun and most of all to pretend was permissable only in my young mind, as to be very private and personal and I dared not to have fun when anyone was looking! I did not even like to laugh in front of others.
As I come to learn about myself and my fascination with little cute things, doll art, magical dollhouses (I always wanted one and had one thanks to kleenex tissue boxes and crepe paper) cupcakes, licorice allsorts and dolly mix … I end up here, at your side, whilst you create these marvellous places to go during my particularily painful Autumn days … and now I am smiling. Thank you.
The postcards would adorn my mind with fond memories of having come to find you. Again my thanks to you V,
    Lyns
