Heloooo there! I hope you are doing lovely. I am taking a break from lots of cooking and baking and tidying up, as we have had house-guests (and still do for a couple more days). I am in a house with all boys, from guests to fur. It has been nice, and I have so enjoyed making oodles of elaborate meals and desserts. The boys went into town, so I am stealing some time to visit with you, while I can hear the pups splashing in the doggie pool.
I came back from a stroll to the mail box with the latest issue of House Beautiful (March 2011) in hand. I was immediately drawn in. It was the pink paint, pink walls and overall pink love that got me.
I so love pink.
I like to keep pink roses on my piano, as I love how they look with the black finish and the worn edges showing hints of coffee color.
I especially love a muted and faded rose pink.
Yumms.
Ever since I saw the film about Alan Stone a couple years ago (which I adored), whose walls happen to be a lovely pink, I have been obsessed with painting a wall in my home a light shade of Pepto Bismol pink.
I love the look of antiques, in their real brown shades, with a pink backdrop.
And now, I am extra inspired….
Isn't that wall delicious?
I even like a cool lavenderish pink from time to time…

What I want to do is, I want to reorganize everything again.
Like, a second sweep of purging and organizing.
Have I gone koo-koo in the head?
I feel like I need to do a deeper version of the sweep I just did.
Am I mad?
Okay, don't answer that.
But, you know what I mean 😉
Oh oh, in random news.
The carrots I planted last summer are finally ready,
and they are deeeeee-licious!
I have a few more to nibble, but I am wiggling them out of the earth little by little, a couple a day…
I love that earthy taste of roots right out of the ground.
I love beets too.
We eat them a ton, and the colors they make in your bowl when you bake them are outrageous.
I also love other soil flavored like veggies.
For example, I could eat spinach everyday.
I even love oysters, with their gritty ocean love.
My Dad used to take me with him on business trips when I was little (like 5 & 6), and we would go into these fabulous restaurants and share oysters on the half shell.
Are you horrified?
Now I stick to smoked and delightfully stinky ones.
I like funny foods.
With earthy tones.
Oh, on another random note.
Here is the growing baby of the house.
I think I had forgotten to share his exact birth-date?
He was born November 22, 2010.
He is a total little boy.
He is a rolling in the dirt, getting into mischief, head strong little hooligan.
He is tough, engages Matty in wrestling all day.
He is not afraid to wander on his own, and he knows what he wants.
By the way.
I took them to the vet alone, in heels. Both at the same time.
Silly me, what was I thinking?
It went fine-ish.
Matty was commended on his physique, and Miles was adored for his puppy cuteness.
But the news is that….
Miles weighs about 17 lbs. (he is 11 weeks old)
And Matty (who is a year and a half) weighs 37.8 lbs.
Isn't that funny?
I think Miles will outgrow Matty, for sure.
So, there is my Mommy to two furry babies ramblings for the day

I have painted lots of walls pink and it is very difficult to find the right pink for you. Be prepared to trial a few tones. Good luck and can’t wait to see it.
My whole living room was pink until a couple of weeks ago! I heart pink too! Love that sweet furbaby of yours!
oooooh pink (maybe with some glaze to art it up)…..love that as a child you ate grown-up foods (trained my children to eat stinky bleu, feta, sharp cheeses, dark chocolate, smoked meats, mushrooms, pickled beets, real bread)
You know the saying, where there is a void – nature will fill it. You will make way for new stuff!
I love pink walls too. In our old house I had painted our two story family room a pink with gray undertones. I loved it and missed having a room that color!!! I think everyone should add a dash of pink to their lives.
That pink wall sounds great. I’ve never had a pink wall. I do have pink things in Liv’s room (she’s a lucky girl with 3 rooms in 3 homes) We built our house in the 70s and the upstairs has ugly brown paneling. I hate it, but think some day I can talk hubby into sheet rocking and painting it all. (We did that downstairs a couple years ago).
I want to do some rearranging, cleaning and purging in the bedrooms. Sometimes its just getting started. And of course my craft room always needs help.

Yes yes, I can relate to your ‘pink’ dream.
About 15 years ago, My Knight was working in a building that had everything in shades of pink. Pink walls, trims and carpet! He loved it so much that we decided to paint our entire living area those same shades of pink. We even bought new carpet to match! Also, for the wall lights, we switched plain light bulbs for very pale pink bulbs (all the rage at the time) So dreamy..we loved it!!
Then a year or two later, we were a bit over it.
We sold our house to a couple who were excited about our pink living area, and for our new house, we chose ‘off white’.
But the pink WAS LOVELY for a time!
I adore the idea of pink walls! My best friend had pink walls in her room when we were little and I was always jealous 🙂 And Miles is so cute!! ~Lauren

I’ve always wanted a pink kitchen (the lady next door to us had one when I was growing up in the 1950’s) I used to have a soft pink angora pull-over sweater I loved…and I love black and pink together…even on kitchen tile! So, I can see why you like the soft pink roses on your black piano…it is a beautiful contrast.
Oysters! Did you say oysters! Yumm! I buy oysters in the jar in the seafood section at the grocery store, and I make them the way my Dad taught us.
You crack a raw egg into a glass pie dish, add about a fourth cup of milk and mix that together. In another dish, have about 3/4 cup of flour and add salt and pepper to the flour (3/4 tsp. of salt, to 1/2 tsp. of pepper)or your taste preference.
In a frying pan (cast iron or stainless steel, but NOT a teflon coated pan) Add about 3/4 of an inch of cooking oil. Heat the oil hot enough to fry the oysters in. (But BEFORE you heat the oil) prepare oysters: Place oysters in a collander with hole, rinse with cool water to get any shell fragments out (or pearl shards, really!!) and pat dry with paper towel. Place the oysters first in the egg/milk mixture, then place oysters in the flour mixture, turning them over to coat with flour. Place oysters carefully into the hot oil about a 1/2 inch apart in the pan. (Do not overload pan with oysters, if need be do a second batch.)
Fry oysters on high heat about two minutes on each side, turning with a metal slotted spoon (or metal spatula) until golden brown on each side. Drain on plate on paper towel. Yummy!
Oh, drizzle fresh lemon juice over oysters.
That is how I learned to eat and LOVE oysters!

I went to an estate sale years ago where there was a totally pink kitchen. It was amazing. Pink stove, sink, fridge, walls, tables chairs and princess phone. I wish I had pictures of it. It was a bit much but so very Hollywood looking to me. Loved it! – Cheers, Kathy

in a former house, i painted the bathroom walls and ceiling pink. it was outrageous!! i adored it <3 i got tons of compliments too. people said, you are brave! but it was normal for me to do such a thing=)

Vanessa I’m in the middle of the same purge and clean mission in my own home…and I fully intend to sweep through again once everything is in its place. It’s the only way to truly win the “clutter war”. So you’re not crazy, just determined. Oh and by all means go for the PINK!!!

I was the pink princess when I was growing up. I even got a pink princess phone at one point! The walls of my room weren’t ever pink, but just about everything else was.

I’m still on the first organizing sweep of the house and anticipate being in this phase for quiiiiiiiiiiiiite some time. I love the idea of doing a second sweep afterwards, though (if I haven’t collapsed in an exhausted heap by then–ha!).

I like the pink spreads in the magazine. I love rose pinks. Pink is hard though-as in picking a shade-it seems so hard to tell how it will look. THere is a pink house near here-I will get a picture one day-if someone else is driving-it is just on the slip road of the motorway! I did have a pink bedroom when I was at college-with postcards all over the walls. I liked it but do not have good memories of that room as it was freezing cold and damp. I have some lovely sugar pink pajamas-love that shade!
Glad the vet visit went well. I have to take the cats for their boosters soon-they hate it! xx
Oohhh Those pink walls look so delicious that I wish I could lick them…tee hee, but I’m sure they taste nothing like strawberries or cherries. Come to think of it I think I’ll leave my wall licking thoughts to meself. Yes I think that would be best.

I too adore pink. Pink clothes. pink walls, pink piglets, pink pink pink. A girl can never get enough pink, specially when she lives amongst so much testosterone. Someone has to wear the pink, don’t you agree? Yes me thought you might ;-).
Now, on to other matters…oysters, yuck, but I’m glad you love them with all their Oceanus goodness, plus you have the most wonderful memories attached to them, which I’m sure makes them that much more delectable ;-).
I used to have a rule long long ago that if I hadn’t used something is 6 months it went to goodwill. In all those years I only got rid of 1 thing that I deeply regret. It was a lovely fitted denim skirt that flared ever so gently below the knees. Very mermaidy and very 80’s, but I loved it so and wore it with a delicious Jessica McKlintock linen top with lovely lace around the sailor collar and a thick tapestry belt. Of course I had granny boots on me tootsies to finish the ensemble. Those were the days…tee hee!!!
Now I must be off to do some cleaning of my own.

I grew up in pink walls as a girl. When I finally painted my place after years with white walls..I painted my living room pink and green.
It is pretty. I say go for the pink. It makes
my living room pretty and alive.

Hi Vanessa!!! So much fun stuff in your post today. I’ve come to appreciate pink much more as an adult. I had pink walls on my room when I was young. 🙂 I have dark hair, and pink looks nice with my complexion. I love carrots soooo much – and spinach. I’m afraid to say that I’m not overly fond of beets. But I LOVE their color…it’s just so pretty. I’ve been trying to be very good and eat lots more interesting veggie meals. I adore avocados – and I just recently made avocado PESTO! It was sooooo good. 🙂 Thanks for the Miles and Matty report. Miles is indeed going to be a strapping young man. As for the pink walls, I think I wouldn’t mind a peach-y or salmon-y pink, but for the time being, we are stuck with all the PINK pink that is already around us! The house we live in is an 85 year old bungalow that used to belong to my great-aunt, who painted a majority of the walls pink and the ones she didn’t, she covered in wallpaper with pink in it! That was a long time ago and now the wallpaper is faded. I kind of like it that way! There’s not much money right now, so major renovations are out of the question, but we have painted the bathroom and the kitchen and some of the ceilings super rich cream, just to go with what we will have to live with for a while (oh, and of course, the bedroom is a cheerful lavender shade!). So, I might not consider painting in pink for a while now that we have had to live with it for a year now! And I have discovered a curious thing! Being surrounded as we have with faded wallpaper, pastel colors, funky flowered fabrics (none of which match) and lace curtains has changed my taste and which colors I am choosing to work with in my art. I still love all things purple, but that faded rose motif seems to appeal to me more and more!
I love vegetables that taste of the earth as well!! I have always loved beets (Mr. V detests them!!), but also carrots, turnips, radishes, etc. And I really like spinach too, as well as other greens such as the greens from the beets and swiss chard! Yummy! And my father also had me eating oysters on the half shell when I was little!!! (My mother was completely grossed out by that!!) But don’t you find that they are just the purest flavor of the ocean??? Why should we be afraid to eat from the Earth and the Ocean, which keep us alive?
Don’t worry! You are not the only one who considers doing “The Second Round” of the cleaning because I feel like I wasn’t “tough” enough the first time and kept some things I shouldn’t have!!

I’m happy to see you and your boys,(and Mister Lovee) are all well. I, too love pink, and all things Shabby (hence my Etsy username) and Yes!! Miss Miranda’s bedroom is painted beaustiful bubble gum pink, with snow white trim and snow white furniture, and a faux leopard print rug on her floor. Just love it! I must admit I’m a bit of a collector myself. I love all things shabby and vintage and brightly colored, steampunk, hippie, girly. LOL I don’t think I can say I have any certain sense of style, as long as it makes us happy!

I have had a pink wall – my bedroom when I was a teen. I never would have thought I’d like it. But I had dark green carpeting, pale pink walls, heavy draperies in a rose and green floral print, and a canopy bed in white. I felt like a princess every day and I loved it. I’ve been planning to paint my current bedroom walls taupe and pale pink but I’ve recently had a change of plans, ditched the pink – but I’ll still have some dusty rose in the final room decor. Just finished painting – my kitchen, green. Still have the trim to do. Then on to the hallway. Which is gonna be totally untraditional!
