Autumn weather rolls in, bringing baking & postcards…

Hi there!  Before we sit to have a long chat over baked goods, I thought I would let you know, that I turned some of my prints into postcards.  And, have popped them into my shop

I am so excited to share these with you.  I wish you could reach in a grab them, and see them in person.  They are a ton of fun (in my opinion 😉

The funky and colorful Charming Silhouettes are extra fun as postcards…

Framed Medley Postcard

I made a few different type of postcard packs…

All on page for Etsy

I punched little holes in mine and hung them from my blackboard…

Here is what the back of all of the Charming Silhouettes look like…

And, the fronts and backs of the others…

And, the Elegant Peacock…

I will put all the Christmas cards in the shop as soon as I have them photographed and sorted out.  Later this week for sure…

As for life in the country….

Fall came to visit us.  Such a handsome fellow when he decides to stay for a while.  Making trees begin to blush in shades of orange and yellow.  I know it seems late to those of you in cold states…  But in Arizona, our first slice of true Autumn pie has barely touched the plate…  Although our spirits have been in an Autumnal place, for a couple of months…

Cozy 2

So, we write to you, sharing the last of the flowers and herbs until Spring…  It is outrageously windy and tomorrow we are slated to have a high of 69', which is cool for us indeed…

Cozy 19

The other day I peeked out the window,  and almost did a cartwheel.  I was almost positive I was seeing snow flurries.  Alas, how could I, when it had been 89' the day before…

Cozy 22

Can you imagine?  Snow flurry love…

Cozy 21

But as deceitful as a mirage, it is only the fly away stuff from some messy floofy bush…  And, it is everywhere…

I was outside, collecting twigs for marshmallow roasting & tiny wood for my tiny fire when I was greeted by the Mister…  (might I add, there are munchkin sized piles of wood, strategically placed by Mr. Lovee for my collecting purposes so I don't hurt myself cutting them down to size, silly man)

Cozy 9

He had in his hand, my favoritest teeny vase, with some lovely scraggly lil' guys inside.  A gift.  Sigh…  Is he for real?  I should rent him out for big bucks.  Let's think of a flyer…  Delightful, older, kind, so smart, flattering, wise about girls, and charmingly silly in his debonair ways…  How much do you think I could get?  ;)   (it's not all perfection of course, he can be annoying, I can be bratty, you know how that goes…)

Cozy 11

Thank you Mister Nice…

Cozy 13

Let me take this to my Gypsy home…

Cozy 15

So, how do you repay the flower bearing serenader?

Cozy 7

Cozy 20

Why, you bake of course.  Isn't windy blustery cool weather so inspiring for baking???

I have been baking it seems, almost every day for a week.  I have made banana bread, and he wants more!  So that is good news…

Cozy 23

Cozy 24

And my favorite thing to bake, biscuits.  A recipe from my Mammie, by way of Martha.  I guess the banana bread recipe is from Martha too.  I like Martha.

As for biscuits…

Cozy 3

They are a fun mess to make.  I don't use a food processor like the recipe indicates…  Just a fork and my fingers, or a pastry cutter…

Cozy 16

Pour in the buttermilk, and mix with your hands. Sticky sticky…

Cozy 8

Pat out on a lightly floured surface, and keep your hands floured.  Then cut out, place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet, bake and…

Cozy 5

Cozy 6

Voila.  Simple perfection…

Cozy 12

By the looks of those sticky buttery fingers, I'd say, he enjoyed them…

Cozy 10

These are not like the other biscuit recipe I shared with you a while back. These are not sweet, just simple biscuits, that you can serve with jam or with a roast and such…  The others a few months ago, were real sweet cake like biscuits…

I want to bake up something lovely this winter.  I make lots of crisps…  Do you have any favorite Autumn/Wintery baked goods you think I should make???  I would love some ideas!!  I am up for trying lots of new things.  Do tell what you cook up on a windy cold day…

Anyhow, I have talked your ear off, and I will be back in a couple of days with more to share…  But for now I shall bid adieu.

Back to unpacking tiny trees from my winter goods bin…

“Fall came to visit us. Such a handsome fellow when he decides to stay for a while. Making trees begin to blush in shades of orange and yellow.”
oh, I shivered when i read this. when fall comes i look up from under my eyelashes a lot and embarrassed giggles constantly escape me. I fall for such broody, mysterious types! and i think the baking bug may infect me entirely out of my urge to entice him to me….
I have favorited some postcards (the sirene is my most favorite) into my etsy favorites and hope to add them to my stationery collection soon.
    E.

  6. ohh I have to agree, when the weather changes, I love to bake too..I bake cookies galore..and for fall I love to bake pumpkin everything..haha(I also like to bake biscutes with the orange cream icing..so good) so ms.V..I would love to know how you and mr. lovee met(I love to hear love stories..hehe)..he is truely a sweet guy, and both of ya’ll are so cute together..(from the pics I’ve seen, looks like a great match)!!! 🙂

  12. *~*KRiSTa*~* says:

Love your trees! I’m getting so excited for winter and Christmas! I think it’ll be here before we even know it, it seems to spring up on us like that. We had some snow here one day, but it was all melted by afternoon. The ground is still warm..we did have 32 degrees today! That was lovely, I like it when it’s chilly, because then you can dress up in a big fluffly warm coat and mittens and cute boots..*sigh* Always love your posts they get me so excited and inspired!
    xoxo

Renting him hey? And you want an advice about the price? Let’s say that it depends on who is renting him (this to prevent that I will be completely without a chance to ever rent him hahaha). My recipes are too difficult as I cannot (read it takes soo much time) translate them as I discovered you have a whole bunch of other ingredients and a totally different system of weights and temperatures. Your baking results look to yummy though. I get hungry from reading your blog so I’ll fly away now. C yah!

  14. shelbi says:

can your blog be any more special, pretty, magical, wonderful, whimsical, or precious!?
    {just like you!}

I included the link to my recipe blog…plenty of warm, wonderful baking ideas over there, with more added all the time! I need to put up my cran-apple crisp now that I think of it! Try the Fresh Pear Crumble Pie…I think you’d really like it!

Vanessa, when I need a bit of inspiration I sit down grab a cup of coffee and read some posts. When I come here I am always overwhelmed with inspiration and amazed at your generous creativity that you continue to share…even a recipe for biscuits. I love that typewriter with flowers peeking out, hmmmm, what a great idea for a flower arrangement. Have a lovely week. Karen

  22. Deborah says:

  23. Martha says:

    Ah, the baking looks wonderful!

  24. Isn’t it funny that I can almost smell the baking….I can do that sometimes. Like when someone talks of a lovely fire in fireplace or woodstove I can almost smell the logs burning.
There is something comforting about the smell of things like that on a cold day. I bet Mr. Lovee is salivating with all this baking you’re doing. I know I am.
I keep promising G pumpkin bread, perhaps I should get on that and scent up the house with the fragrance….and fill his heart with home baked love!
Your postcards are wonderful as always. I am especially drawn to the fancy peacock!
    XOXOXOXOXO Love, L.

  25. yuum I am getting hungry from all of your goodies!! I have been blessed in the last two days with some deer hanging out in our back yard! I think that they are having a little extra fun if you know what i mean!!! I will have to post the pics this week!!

  26. Amy says:

Yes, I like fall! When I walked to the library this morning, the streets where covered with orange and yellow leaves. I just love to bury my feet in them and kick up a few into the air… 🙂
I am so gonna try out your biscuits! 😀 When winter comes along, I like to bake simple cookies dipped in chocolate with some cute wintery ornaments on top of them or a hazelnut-chocolate cake.. 🙂

  27. Randi says:

Butterscotch biscuits and spice syrup for tea. Recipes on my blog!!

  28. Ann Flowers says:

OHhhhh…wonderful goodness! I have to go find my apple cake recipe. I haven’t made it in forever, but your post reminded me of it. If I find it…I’ll send you a copy.

  30. Chris says:

Wow! What a wonderful Mr.! And the soul of a musician, too!
I am so ready to get back to baking, as I had in the years before my painting, that I have told everyone no art! for the next month. I am going to bake!
Those biscuits remind me of my mom, and there was no food processing involved! Your biscuits look perfect.
A yuletide staple around here is Mexican Wedding Cakes, those little round balls with powdered sugar flying everywhere. I’m always making pumpkin pies, but this year I think I’m also going to try making these:
    http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/holiday-cookies?lnc=5a79cf380e1dd010VgnVCM1000005b09a00aRCRD&rsc=lpg_food&lpgStart=1&currentslide=5&currentChapter=1
They have powdered sugar, too, but I bet they are tart!

  31. Paris Parfait says:

  37. Tricia says:

Here is a yummy dessert from Martha that I made a little while ago that was yer yummy! I highly recommend it. I made it in my cast iron pan, but didn’t grease the bottom enough, so add plenty of butter to the bottom to prevent sticking!
