Fall days are really happening aren't they?

It gets cooler, darker, winds start to blow the yellow leaves off the trees and vines.

Blankets get thicker.

Sock drawers get opened (yay, I love socks).

And doodling in bed at night becomes a priority.

Fall 24

(the silver pen I used disappeared in photos)

But not before stealing a treat or two from the garden.

Fall 11

Candy sweet oranges and doodling by golden night light.

So good.

Fall 22

Magazines and doodle pages stack up in bed.

Oh oh, if you happen to take a peek at the November 2013 issue of Romantic Homes

You'll see my tomato cage tree which gets dolled up for the holidays.

Fall 23

I had forgotten about it, and was just fa-la-la-ing my way through the issue, when I let out an oooooh!

And scared everyone around me.

Haha!

Romantic homes nov 2013

It's such a great issue, choc full of wonderful holiday decor ideas.

Yumm.

If you happen to spy some of my goodies for sale in Plaid Parasol.Com ads in some of the Beckett Media magazines, it is because I paired up with them in late summer to carry some of my goodies in their new online store front.

I have had great fun with that, and working with everyone behind the scenes has been so awesome.

Such fun, I tell ya.

Fall 14

But where was I?

Ah yes, doodling.

Are you still doodling???

I sleep so well after doodling, I should do it more often.

You?

Fall 25

My blog posts have been such a menagerie of stuff lately haven't they?

It's like, no focus, just a bunch of mumble jumble 🙂

But it's a confusing time you see, when fall thinks it's spring, and winter wants to warn it is on the way.

The desert is all kookoo.

Fall 6

With fresh roses enough to cut and enjoy.

And ever so fragrant, dizzyingly fragrant.

Fall 7

I love all the colors of autumn.

The pumpkins and pomegranates, quince and oranges.

Fall 3

By the by, the quince hit the boiling sugar water.

Fall 19

What a scent.

Fall 16

And now…

Now there is jam.

I took a hot jar down the road in the dark, with only the moon to guide me, to one of my neighbors.  Such a nice man, with a spunky dog.

Fall 15

Thick lush leaves are saying adios.

And yes, throughout the garden there are still pumpkins.

Fall 27

I must bring them all in once and for all.

Over the domed garden below there was this massive fairy tale pumpkin that we removed a month ago.  But now, I see there are two more.

I am not sure our dome will ever recover, haha.

It is sinking in the center with the heaviness of the growers snuggling up there.

But hey, we got pumpkin love.

Fall 4

There is much muchness of cuddling going on in this fall season we are in.

(okay, yes, there is always cuddling going on)

Sleepy glazed over eyes.

Fall 13

3 cute boys.

I am craving puppies.

Bundles and baskets of puppies.

Sigh.

Or a big Maine Coon cat.

(Why do I have to be allergic to cats and bunnies?  It's so wrong, hives and wheezing.  Too sad)

Alas, we are so well adjusted and happy as is.

No sense in rocking the fur boat, right?

Right?

😉

Fall 18

Here is a common question.

Why do I cut my head off in photos?

Because I am squishy squinched faced behind the lens all the time.

Sooo unbecoming I say 🙂

Here's one of a recent pic that got the head chop, ha!

Fall 17

Oh oh oh.

Something gooood.

I made chicken milanese for the first time.

It was UNREAL.

I used this as a basic recipe.

The chicken was sooo moist and amazing.

But for spices added to the panko I used garlic powder, salt and lemon pepper.

Changed it up a little.

Then I went out in the garden with my flash light and took some cherry tomatoes, red pepper and arugula.  The goodies are still producing.  I need to bring in some basil before it all goes to seed.  I stop pruning it and let it begin going to seed in October.

Fall 20

Arugula is the gift that keeps on giving.

Plus, it self seeds like mad, and gives you spicy buttery leaves all the time, winter, spring or summer.

For now we are savoring the finish line of last minute flowers…

Fall 12

And pumpkins for 2013.

This one has quite the long stem, isn't it grand?

Fall 5

How did it get to be the end of November?

I just don't know.

It's all too weird for me to comprehend.

This thing of fleeting time.

So, instead I just live in the moment.

Day by curious day.

You?

OH!!  I almost forgot.

I just used a random number generator to find the princess pincushion winner.

It gave me #15.

I take my own comments out of the equation, which makes Kim of Gerushia'as New World #15!!!

Kim, you won you won!  🖤

Well, off I go for now.

I have to run around the yard making sure everything is put away, as a storm is brewing.

Coming in to knock the leaves off the trees and bushes that sleep in winter.

Eeeeeks!

See you soooon!

Love, V

Sparkly heart

ps:

I know I have posted this before.

But, I am listening to it now, and it's such a good feeling.

Autumn and leaves and dreams…

Strings, puppets, believing, dancing, harmonica goodness…

Vanessa, your posts make me smile the kind where your cheeks have no choice but to obey because the happiness is all powerful. I love these random posts all over the place because really, isn’t that what life is like? Such wonder and joy! I know it is so for me.. Playing with the kids in the morning, baking after lunch, Winterizing the garden before the sun disappears, snuggling with my cats (so sorry you’re allergic!), snuggling with my kids! A little bit of this and a little dash of that… it is the stuff of Life and I love it! It’s marvellous!! And how wonderful to be in the magazine! So pretty!

  9. Congrats on your feature in Romantic Homes, Vanessa! I have all my Christmas magazines piling up. I just can’t look at them until after Thanksgiving. Fall is looking pretty good in your part of the world, but the pictures of your gardens always look good. You are so pretty, I love when you share a picture of yourself ~ squishy face or not! : )
Happy Thanksgiving if I don’t get to visit before then!

  10. Jenn says:

Oh how lovely some of your things are for sale on Plaid Parasol! Just had a peek at their site, such beautiful things! Loving your doodles, I cherish each and every sketch or doodle you share, they’re all so Vanessa and special. You’ve inspired me to hop over to the kitchen and see what kind of a gourmet lunch I can whip up.
P.s. Yes, oodles and oodles and baskets of furry creatures. There’s no such thing as enough. My love has 3 dogs and a cat and it’s such a happy house to visit everyday!

  11. Hahahahaaa!!!
Oh, I use to carry cards with my line drawings on them in local shops. I should get back on it eh??
We love when you visit too!! xoxo

  12. Happy Thanksgiving Kathy, I know you are probably sooo busy!! What fun!! xoxo

  13. Irina, you are not a dodo, tee heeee 😉 So good to see you!! <3

  14. I am allergic, isn’t that more than sad?
When I was a little girl I had everything cats. Paper, book binders, notebooks, ink stamps, everything cats.
Finally my mom took me to get a cat, I was about 7 or 8, and I held a cat in the pet store and my whole neck got covered in hives within a few minutes and I would wheeze, I could not breathe.
But I did have a few cats that were allowed to live outside over the years.
One named Casey, who we had for about 15 years or more.
I heard Maine Coon cats don’t cause allergies?
    I want 🙂
    Matty will freak out.

  15. Miss Deb, gas all the way 😉
I need fire to cook 😉
And I love our stove. It cooks up things so good. And it is the simplest non computerized old thing. Just turn the handle to the number and bake. I love this simplicity to bits. Everything i try to cook works out, it has to be the stove for sure. It bakes hot and good.
When I try to use fancy ovens with computer screens everything is a disaster.

  16. Congrats on your new pubs. I love the tomatoe cage tree.
Violet saw you with the camera and said, “Hey Mama! It’s Vanessa. Did you know what she is? She’s my fairy god mother and she speaks in two languages.”

  17. yesterday when I talked to her on the phone, she was like, umm ummm, wait,
I was confused, did you speak English too? Oh I forgot, you speak English
and another language too. In her tiny little precious girl voice

  18. I absolutely LUV that video, anything to do with paper-cut-out puppets. Puppets have always mesmerized me since I was very young. They did a fabulous job of choreography with the people dancing and the over-lay of the paper dolls and puppets. I could watch something like this for hours. That is why I like the paper doll scenes at the beginning and ending of the Lemony Snicket movie ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’. Like I’ve said before, I need about ten life times to explore all of the aspects of music and art I would love to be able to do! In another life maybe? But puppets! So charming and surreal and magical!
And Happy Birthday to wonderful, gorgeous, spontaneous, and fur love to Mr. Miles!
    Ta! Ta! or Woof! Woof!
    Miss Teresa

  19. Oh! Gosh! And I simply adore Maine Coons! They are incredibly smart! I hope you can get one and aren’t allergic to it.

  20. LazyBird says:

Quince jam is my absolute favourite, it has such sentimental value for me. My aunt used to make it and save me a jar, but living in Winnipeg, Canada, they are hard to come by. I have not had any in years so seeing you making some brought a tiny tear to my eye, both of happiness and melancholy. Oh well. One day.
    Lovely blog.
    Cheers.
