The summer heat is fading and draining in its strength.
I beg the sky for monsoon rain.
My garden and I beg and long, beg and long.
There is a beauty in this rain waiting dance.
A week shuffles by in a fog of painting.
All the days flash together like one extra long day in time.
Brushes and paint…
And sleeping with paint on fingers and toes.
Trying to stay cool amongst intense heat.
Painting away.
Where studio and bedroom overlap.
Breaks are for playing little chords.
Picking faded zinnias to place here and there.
And pinning all manner of little treasures to a nonsense board.
Spools and ribbons for inspiration + mending.
And books stacked so precariously, they nearly always topple over lately.
Begging to be rearranged.
But every time I start to do that I am distracted by some found sheet music.
Antique flowers float about.
As collections grow.
And somehow, magically…
Little pink roses survive the heat.
Like their friends, the zinnias.
Who you can always count on to hang on for dear life.
Whilst other creatures nap in cool rooms on crisp clean sheets and pillowcases.
Ain't that the life?
It's hot.
Hot I tell ya.
You know the feeling when you open the oven to check your baking goods?
That is how it feels when you open the front door and go outside.
A blast of scorching heat.
I have a love hate relationship with it.
If I want to run in my hose, I love it.
If I have to go out into the world on a 113' day, not so much love there.
But it's dry heat, so it doesn't feel terribly horrible.
If you have never experienced such heat, you might be shocked.
Thank goodness for cool a/c air and water.
What is the weather doing where you are?
I adore weather.
I can't wait for ridiculous winds and downpours of rain.
I will be out there in it, waiting, running around in it more than happily.
As always.
Looove, V
Happy Weekend!!
ps: Remember that silly monsoon mermaid video I made?
I love that rain!!

Oh Vanessa, today I went out into heat to get groceries and found myself in a torrential downpour! I don’t run in the rain when on pavement because I don’t want to fall, so by the time I got home, I was soaked!
We have more rain on the wait, perhaps it’s North Carolina’s monsoon season! LOL!
It is hot here. Although, not as hot as usual. Go figure. But, it is hot enough to want to stay indoors. I stepped out front to water my impatiens and roses out front and the wildflower seeds, pumpkins and zucchini in the back. By the time I was finished, I was ready to go back inside the comforts of my air conditioned house. Growing up and living in the desert, I have the same love hate relationship with the weather that you have. Thank goodness we have dry heat.
I’ve decided I’m going to plant a gajillion zinnia seeds next year. I am so in love with them right now.

My weather is pretty much your weather :o) I do enjoy the heat more so than the cold. Yet when it is cold, I prefer a dry cold rather than a damp cold which is not unlike how I like hot weather… dry -lol- I too welcome the monsoon with its amazing weather and spectacular sunsets but, woof… there are times when the humidity can suck the life out of a gal and naps are put on the top to-do list.
Have a wonderful weekend too.
Always, Queenie
I wish it would rain! I was hoping it would start early, because it warmed early. My preschool niece was visiting the other day from a cooler place, and I told her to climb into the car. She said, “no, I don’t like the weather here.” I swear I can see the heat radiating off the seat of the car.
Here in The Saint-Lawrence Lowlands, we’ve been having rather peculiar & unpredictable weather. We had an incredible rain storm the other evening. The next evening we needed a sweater it was so chilly, and for the rest of our holiday weekend the humidity is bringing us up to over 100F. But it’s a hot and humid 104F, not dry at all… the kind of sticky, oppressive heat that makes breathing laborious and the day so very very long. We don’t have A/C here, I refuse to have it installed, so we take refuge in the basement where it stays closer to a manageable 90F.
The urge to create, for me, fades into nothingness and the need to weed the garden is usurped by fanning ourselves in the screened-in porch, drinking lemonade and nibbling on cold pasta salad.
These are the days… Have a happy weekend, Vanessa!!
Dearest Dear Vanessa,
We have started having our garage sales in our little shed again this year and today was one of the best days we have had so far. No rain, no wind, just super blue sky and in the 80’s! It’s a heatwave for us but it seems like perfect weather to me! But I do still wish it would stay warm at night! We still sleep under quilts! People who come to our garage sale make me want to roll my eyes because they complain that it’s too hot! I watched your super cute monsoon mermaid video! If you like the rain, you would love it here! We get sheets and sheets of rain in the summer sometimes! Hope there will be respite to your heat soon!
Sending hugs and freshly squeezed limeade!
Betty
Good Morning. It is hot here in Michigan, if it weren’t for the humidity it would be wonderful. I’m not complaining as the winter had way too much snow and oh so very cold.
Hope you have a great week end and do get some of the rain you want.
Louisiana heat brings daily thunderstorms with the hot sun breaking through. Lots of green happy plants and yards….birds playing in the mist, hunting for worms that surface. Humidity is high and stiffling but it softens the wrinkles so I don’t complain about it…

This photo on my tumblr, and I thought of you when I saw it as Zinnias remind me of you. It is from an old gardening book I have. Your faded Zinnias today are so like it. Today started off sunny, then later there was heavy rain and thunder. I got very wet feet! It is now quite chilly.
I remember the Grandfather’s Clock song, I used to sing it in elementary school! It was a sad, but humorous song.
There is flooding of the Mississippi River, in St. Paul, Minnesota, close to where my sister lives, but they are on higher ground a bit north from St. Paul in another city. So, I hope you get your monsoon rains, but no flooding!
There is something about the dry heat, where you are, which makes it tolerable, but a hose or water sprinkler is the very ticket!
I see that magic is in the air with your paintings! Can’t wait for the Mad Tea Party!
XO

Singing wildly through the trees,
Whispering songs of memories,
The crossing moon boat summer’s eve-
On the winds taking leave.
Up the hill in the morning sun,
Around old rock stairs the lizards run.
Frogotton paths oh so old, roads
Of time no ones goes.
Winding, winding on top at last,
Whisper breezes secrets pass.
Suddenly the gladiolas a light,
Brightest pink, deepest red and some white.
Basil, caraway, cumin too,
The dry earth scents me red shoes.
Ding, dang, dong ring the bells,
The old town church says 12.
And to the front and now behind,
Some fairies pass all in time.
On the winds their dust flew,
Straight to Arizona too.
Maybe yiu’ll see them in a blink,
Haven a lil meal and drink.
A toast from us to you,
To the Moon Summer Boat Cruise.
Clink. Cheers and Bravo!
A kindred spirit, Vanessa.
Didn’t ya know? Everyone in michigan has their own pet cloud.
(Like the skittles commercial)
Hope you get some rain luvvy. I have a carrier cloud. I will send my cloud your way.
Lol
Ugh, I’m in agreement with the love-hate relationship and hot weather. I’d like it to stay around 78-80 degrees, with a mild breeze and sunshine…that would be ideal. Alas, no…not to be where I live. Florida summers are a test of a person’s patience and their “inner metal”. As if the Gods of weather are saying: “Just how strong are you? Oh really? Try this brutal heat and humidity. Not enough wet heat yet? Ok, now I’m going to make it thunderstorm like crazy…but not a full day of it where things will cool off. Nope, just for 5 minutes – enough to bring out the mosquitos and steam off the hot pavement. Have a good time out there.” Friends who visit from Texas complain about our summer conditions and I can’t help but laugh.
Love your post! Wishful. 🙂

I remember that sweet little video you made! I love your youtube, it’s fun to watch when I’m having a yuck day (or an extra whimsical one). It takes me to another world of Fanciful Arizona. Your artsy homey snippets are like something from a dream. I do hope the love let’s me decorate our home like yours 😉
Well over here in Northern England we have hit the dizzy heights of 71 degrees and we think that is hot! I’m wearing a sundress and have a fan on as we speak. We are hoping and praying and keeping our fingers crossed it stays like this for our tea party too!
