Come into my house, to myyy house, I want to give you some…

Nope, no candy.  However, I will give you a set of chores if you dare let yourself be coaxed with toffee covered in chocolate (oh wait, that is candy!).  How about home made, extra long, french fries???  Hmm, that isn’t working is it?  Okay, umm, I’ll let Mr. Lovee do a mannie chore for you?  Then you have to HELP me (say fresh squeezed orange juice or perhaps all your grocery shopping?).  All I have to say is…  I am living in my studio day and night.  I am stiff as a corpse (perfect for Halloween), and working like a mad woman for the show…

Vanessa_valencias_asylum_2

I know you might think the place looks out of control, but really it isn’t.  Everything is where it should be for what I am working on.  When you have 9 paper dress girls, 10 little oil paintings, and 50 pieces of jewelry going at once, the place is bound to look like someone turned it upside down, shook it all around, and that’s what it’s all about. HA!

Img_0578

So, I am going to share pure photos of what my days have melded into.  Good thing I adore my studio to pieces. I sit at this little table only to do oil painting.  My easels are all in the gallery getting ready for the show.  I don’t really like painting on them anyways.  I like the painting door with its 12 different heights for working at, and like I said, this little table for oil painting…

The happy oil desserts, fruits & veggies are always popular at the show.  They are cute and fun and textured, and easy on the eye.  Perfect for gifts or home decor.  I think I need a few of the desserts myself…

Img_0564

I had one of my prints near me for inspiration.  I made several.  For the desserts, I decoupaged the canvas with vintage dictionary pages first.  So the outline you see around the cakes is actually a bit of the paper.  I just love how that looks.  I don’t know why, but I do.

Img_0544

The door that I paint on leads to this whole other little area where I have rolling bakers racks to put all these critters on to dry.  They take so terribly long to dry.  Even with all the goop for quick drying.  You see, I use ALOT of paint…

Img_0546

Then I have paper dress girls flying about. They are so dramtic and full of emotion, they go on and on with their dancing all day.  Flutter, flutter.  I warned them I’d cage them if they didn’t sit still…

Img_0550

They didn’t listen…

Img_0551

I just finished a night time dance scene.  With some lanterns that are so lovely in person, I will bring you a better view as soon as the print of it is ready. (This photo does it no justice)

Img_0554

I better get back to work… If I go for too long I will lose my momentum.  Plus, it is really really cold here right now.  Did it get cold wherever you are in the states today???

Here, let me open the door to my "Jewel Case Pantry"  a little peek, just for you…  Perhaps we could cut a deal if you decide to help me with chores… hee heee…  You know, Rubies, Swarovski’s, anyone, anyone…

Img_0574

Okay, I am off.  Back to being a busy bee!!! Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Tell me something wonderful about your Autumn filled days.  Or anything else you are up to…  Oh, and if you want a sneak peek into another wonderfully mad studio, you must visit Consuela!!!

  1. Dorian says:

Geez Vanessa – and I was complaining on my latest post about a little glitter left after cleaning my craft room! You are a dervish! This is obviously the space of a wildly creative person! LOVE the paper dress ladies.

  2. Darling girl,All day today I’ve mulled and measured. G dismantled a monolith cabinet and removed it from my studio this afternoon. Things are upside down and ALL around and if dining were required at a table…it would be impossible. (that is unless you didn’t mind a bit of paint and things in your food). I’ve taken over our tiny house and the plan is to try and keep it confined to the studio (was our extra bedroom). So if candy offers work I may have to follow your lead to lure people to help. Hey, I’ll help you if you help me..how’s that? Or would we just sit and giggle amongst the madness munching on chocolate?
Have I ever told you how much I love your work? Hmmm…seems to me…oh well, it bares repeating…I LOVE your work! But your schedule of to-do’s wears me out. 🙂
    Take breaks!
    XOXOXOXOXOOX

  3. flutter says:

I love your studio i would adore to creep up and watch you make your magical creatures

  4. eb says:

I took 3 mushroom pictures for you today – will post them soon – in the meantime – howabout some green eggs?
    xox – eb.

  5. Nancy says:

    *stamping foot* I…want…a…CUPCAKE painting!! 😉
Miss Vanessa! Your new paintings are simply perfection, but would we expect anything less? And you know that saying “never trust a skinny cook”? I think the same can be said for an artist…well, not that they have to be skinny…that would make no sense. But I think there should be a “never trust a neat-freak artist” saying. Your creativity is obviously boundless…you’re a whirlwind and I so envy your talent and energy! Best of luck and tons of good wishes at the show! 🙂

  6. michelle says:

Oh, I would love to come be your slave just to get to be in the same room as those gorgeous paper ladies! And the food looks delicious, although I hope you are eating some of the real stuff too with all that work going on! Lets see, nice autumn item. I get to take the kids to a pumpkin carving party tomorrow, there acutually are some leaves turning colors here and I get to wear some of my favorite sweaters finally! Good luck with all the creating and please take care of your lovely self!

  7. Cedar says:

Fantastic workspace you have there! I am incredibly jealous… I have about a two foot area in my living room for projects and art….and all my supplies are carefully hidden throughout the house, in places such as under the couch, bed, various drawers….if only I had the room, I would accomplish so much more!

  13. cherie says:

Your studio looks like sheer madness…which is bliss! I work the same way…I love order and neatness but when I work, clutter shows me that I am being productive. Plus I can put my finger on what I need (usually!). I am in love with your desserts!! No wonder they sell so well. But I am really in love with the paper dancing ladies. This is why your studio looks the way it does…you can not contain talent!!!

  14. Jackie says:

Your studio looks like loads of fun! Do you listen to music for inspiration or do you paint in silence. I tend to listen to music.. the type depends on my mood. I have only been working on painting the house, baking and cleaning…. although after seeing your wonderful art pieces I’m feeling a bit inspired to work on other things! Your art is absolutely wonderful!!! The dancing paper ladies … BEAUTIFUL!
I love coming to visit your blog!

  19. Paris Parfait says:

Hola preciosa! Your post is quite delicious – all that eye candy and CUPCAKES! Sigh. And the beautiful paper dress girls dancing and twirling above it all – just gorgeous! I am so impressed with your productivity, not to mention your latest creations. And you know if I were anywhere near Tucson, I’d be there in a heartbeat to help. I’m sure your show will be a great success – and then you can get some sleep. Tomorrow I am going to see a gallery owner; will report back. 🙂 xoxox

All your work is so wonderful….your show will be stunning!!

  22. How wonderful your studio is! And I can’t believe that your head doesn’t just explode with all of those projects going on at once… I would simply dissolve on the spot.

Well I hate to say it but here it is Oct. 22nd and we are hitting it the 70’s today.but the leaves are finally starting to change, so I am off with my camera to get some good shots of fall! 3 more days of good weather, and then the rain will be back. We won’t see snow until Jan or Feb if any. We haven’t even had a good frost yet. I am liking this, where I uses to live, it has snowed 3 time already. Yuck!
    love Erin~

Me, I spent the day at my job – the one I have to work so I have a roof over my head and something to eat LOL But yesterday I did spend part of the day in my studio with a couple of friends making wool roving jewelry. Can’t wait to find time to finish it – the first parts turned out really cool! Good luck at your show. I know you’ll sell out. Hugs!

  31. oh dearie, today it was WARM in Portland, Oregon! Yes, I’d say a good 70 degrees or more. A perfect fall day. Not at all chilly.
I spent most of the day trying to figure out how to incorporate more fungi into my blog, I just want everyone to feel at home. I found some in my yard and started thinking…
Fungi wallpaper? Mushroom fabric maybe? I am working on ideas. Fungi Christmas decorations? Yeah, I like that one. A Mushroom Holiday. It is too much, I can’t do it. Oh, I know! For my 100th post giveaway, fungi could be worked in as a prize. Eek. I guess I should stop working on that and get back to my real world. I just don’t have fungi, I guess that is OK. I’ll leave that to you.
Love your little cupcake art! Delicious!
    Happiest of evenings to you,
    xo,
    Melissa

  38. I need some of those calorie free cupcakes. I’d be able to make wonderful art with a studio like that. I love your dancing paper girls. I have messes everywhere and I haven’t done half as much as you. One day, I’m going to visit Arizona and I will work for toffee covered chocolates.
