Cascaron for vous?

Happy Easter, Happy Day, Happy beginning of a new week!

I some how missed Easter.  Not in my heart, but in a physical sense.  I don't know how?  It was Easter morning, I was going to put on ruffles and drive home to surprise my family, and then the day was gone.

Cascaron 1

I have a looming deadline and lots on my plate, so I suppose that is why time is slipping out of control in my world right now.  The only way to console the day whizzing by was to make?  Cascarones of course!

Cascarones are eggs that have been emptied out, washed, dried, filled with confetti and sparkles, sealed, and then decorated.  I grew up with cascarones shaped like the one I made, and like the ones you see hanging upside down here

Cascaron 2

The cascaron I made is full of sparkles of all kinds, mica flakes and crepe paper.  A beautiful mess waiting to happen!! (Thanks to Mister Lovee, I have glitter nail polish on.  I was so tired last night and sore from the loony activities I get myself into, that he painted them for me. That Mister curly head…)

Cascaron 3

Sooooo, what's the point of all this cascaron talk you ask?  Well, this happy fanciful cascaron is going to live with one of you!

Now I don't recommend the traditional cracking of the cascaron on someone's head, at all.  And, try not to get any of the contents near or in your eyes when you crack it ;)  Boy, am I turning into a concerned adult or what?  hahaha!  But seriously now…

I love these for weddings and parties too, even though in Mexico we use them for Easter celebrations, they are fun for any occasion really.

So, here sits a sparkly cascaron, waiting for a name to be drawn, so it can journey to a new home…

Cascaron 4

Might I suggest cracking yours outside 😉

Cascarones mess

Okay, best be off, I am working on three paintings at the same time ;)  Have a super lovely minute of every minute, and I'll see you soon…

Leave a howdy, and in the hat your name shall go for the cascaron giveaway.

🖤,V

You really do have a prize in that Mister! If I suggested to mine that he paint my nails ‘cuz I’m too tired, he’d just look at me like I sprouted a couple more heads. Then he’d load me in the car and take me to HappyDale Farms for a “little stay” 😉
enjoy your Holiday when you can – doesn’t have to be today, right? I mean, everyday in your Fanciful World is a Holiday!
    Hugs and Smoochies,
    Kate

Oh & come check out my latest post to see what Brownie McMillan has been up to 🙂

    xo

  16. Brook says:

Just gorgeous! I love anything that sends a shower of glitter over my world.

  17. Pattie says:

    Oye Missy,
Don’t you just love the different regianal traditions??!! Here in this part of Sinaloa they aren’t made haven’t been since the 30s. Freinds who’s family is from Northern Sonora said that Cascarones are still a hugely popular tradition with many families along the Mexican, Texas,& Ariz border. Heck here I can’t even find any kind of art/craft traditions with eggs 🙁 Most piculiar. It has been so much fun learnig the different traditions and the way they are tweeked and adapted to each area. Maybe they didn’t become a lasting tradition here is because Sinaloa has had a lot of Dutch, French, German, and Chinese (yep Chinese) influences over the centuries 🙂
    Pattie 😉

  18. A cascaron? Sounds like something scrumptious, but then again, everything you do sounds scrumptious! Sorry that time got the better of you…or the glitter…my blessings are winging their way to you on the breast of a black throated sparrow…tell her hello when you see her on the wing! Happy Hoppy Easter Miss V!

    Erin

  19. Dawn Horton says:

Beautiful cascaron….someone is going to be lucky! Happy Easter.

  20. Krista says:

It’s so so pretty! I have never heard of a cascaron, but it sounds fun! 😀
Hope you had a Happy Easter anyhow, maybe you’ll look out your window and see some bunnies with wings flying by to wish you some magic and luck!
    ~Krista

  21. Laura says:

That bunny is super precious, and how fun to learn about cascarons! I don’t think I would want to crack it open! Thanks for the giveaway! Happy Easter ~

  22. Sandra says:

Love those cascarons, we were at a parade in Santa Barbara one time and everyone was selling them…so we of course had to partake in the festivities and it was so so much fun! I love all the confetti and sparkle coming out of an egg! Happy Easter to you!

  23. Cassandra says:

What could be better than a day full of bunnies?
I love the party-in-an-egg. Yours is gorgeous!

  24. Velvet Brick says:

Oh Vanessa! I have never heard of a cascaron before! They look like the perfect treat to celebrate a special day, event, wish or joy! Thank you for the chance to win such folly! : ) By the way, Mr. Bun-Bun is awfully cute! He was so nice to pose for you, don’t you think? ; )
    VB

  25. Sue says:

I never even heard of cascarones until I got married. My husband’s family introduced them to me that first Easter. I was surprised and delighted by them.
And up until I read your post, I had no idea they had a name. My husband’s family just called them confetti eggs. So from you, I have learned more about the eggs that sure are fun to crack over someone’s head and make a big mess with!
Now I have a grandson, he’s just two weeks old, but when he gets a little bigger … man are we gonna have some fun making a big old mess (and I’ll know what to call it)!

  26. Karen Young says:

    Oh Vanessa…how sweet they are
    Hugs Karen

  27. Robin says:

Vanessa – You are so kind to share the egg wrappers Taylor & I had great fun using them with our egg decorating. Love the cascarons never heard about them before but think we will make some to celebrate Taylor’s graduation in May. Please tell mr lovee he is a jewel. easter blessings of love

  28. Allie says:

Cascarones……oh, yes! What a wonderful tradition. We see more of it when we are in central Texas than up here in Dallas. Love what you did with yours!! Happy Easter 😀
    ~Allie

  29. What a fabulous tradition they are…nothing like a glittery mess 😀 Your version is very pretty… would {love} to win it!

  30. Cori. G says:

Twould be a pity to damage something so sweet as this. If it came to live at my house I would give it a name, a room of its own, and weave tales of magic and wonder for it each night before I tucked in into bed. Strange perhaps…but not really :).
Your little bunny has me squealing with delight!
Oh! Cudo’s to Mister Lovee for his beautiful paint job!!
    xoxox Cori

  31. Elaine L. says:

Oh my gosh! I haven’t seen a cascaron, since I was about seven. That’s 50 years ago! I recall seeing them at a church carnival at my cousin’s church.
They were very simple, though and not as beautiful as yours.
    ~elaine~

  32. Nataliae says:

    Magical.
    Beautifully magical.
    🙂

  33. DENISE says:

OOHHH!! How exciting to own a little piece of your fabulous world. I could channel some of your beautiful energy whenever I looked at my treasure. I will certainly hope for the best!
    Denise

  34. Ohhhh!! How wonderfully wonderful!! Just look at that a little portable piece of magic and imagining….Oh please let you draw my name…but then maybe the egg shell won’t be allowed through customs so I will have to content myself with your lovely pictures!
Happy Easter to you Vanessa, I was thinking of you ( strangely enough) when we were doing our Easter egg hunt at Lilly Cottage, I was thinking you would have thought it was a little magical too!!
    Kiss Noises Linda

  35. belated happy easter!! those cascarones are so cute!!!

  36. Laura says:

I’m still laughing at what you wrote in a previous post about how Mr. Lovey isn’t too pleased with you portraying him as a clumsy (clutzy?) dope!! Agahaahahaaha!!!!! I love it, but of course we never think of him that way. Quite the opposite! He landed you and that was a pretty smooth move, nothing dopey about it!

  37. I have never heard of cascarons before! I love the idea! In fact, I’m going to make one as soon as possible! Thanks for the information and inspiration!
I think it would be very hard to break something so beautiful for 10 seconds of fun.
But, then, I still have platform shoes from the ’70’s.

  38. Kylee Ward says:

    V~
What a beautiful cascarone. You are such a delight!!
    Happy Monday to you!!
    Kylee

  39. Erin says:

So much fun! I am sorry Easter kind of slipped away from you! I hate that! I have to admit, if you pick my name, I am not sure I will be able to crack the cascaron. It is just too pretty.
    Happy Easter, Happy Spring!
    Erin 🙂

  40. Tracy M. says:

OH how fun! I’ve never been to Mexico for Easter, only Christmas. Love the bunny with pink accessories.
    Have a great week!
    Tracy M.

  41. Cynthia says:

Love your elfin egg decoration. I’ll be using them this week for cupcakes for a special birthday girl. I think that they will delight. As for cascarones-never heard of them till now. What fun !! Will surely have to try them for next year. I’ll bet it is as much fun making them as it is to crack them—well almost anyway.
As for TIME, boy do I know. Trying to get my shop “stuff” in order for the opening on May9. The closer I get to opening, the faster time is going. I found this little quote this week-end that I am trying very hard to remember. Maybe it will help you too. ” If I can fool myself into thinking that I don’t have enough time, couldn’t I just as well fool myself into thinking that I have plenty of time? So I decided to have plenty of time.” I believe that it was excerpted from the book, Unwinding The Clock. Sounds real good to me. Have a lovely day, Cyth

  42. Jill D. says:

    It’s gorgeous!

I forgot all about these, but then I vaguely remembered hearing of them before…and instantly i was singing the theme song to villa alegre and carrascolendas! (la la la la la la la la la la la la la via allegre!)

  58. chrissi says:

Hi little Miss V… I needed a little uplift from your beautiful little soul today. I’m heartbroken today because my momma’s beloved dog Penny (little hula butt) passed away last night. My momma and I are like two bodies with the same soul and so everything that happens to one of us is felt just as strongly by the other. Anyway, I knew right where to go looking for tranquility and a little bit of happiness! Your Place! Thank you!! XOXO p.s. I’m one of those strange and eccentric people who usually prefer animals over human’s. But that DOES NOT include you!!! That’s because I can tell that you are more of the “Natural World” and with a pure heart, just like I feel about all the beloved animals..

    Hello Miss Vanessa,
I hope you had a lovely Easter…you certainly created lots of wonderful things for everyone to enjoy. I love your Cascarone, it’s so much fun learning how everyone celebrates Easter. I must say I so enjoyed Easter way better when my little bunnies were small. Now they breeze in and out, while I slave away cooking. Hmmm, next year I think that I will spend Easter with my best friend who has forty people each year celebrate an Easter egg hunt. What fun.
    Happy Day.

THis has nothing to do with this post, but…….
do you have a link or section for recipes that you have listed in previous posts? ‘Cause you’ve mentioned some super-scrupmtious things on here, and I’m too lazy to scroll through 3 million pages to find them.

I spent a warm windy day blowing bubbles to the east and dying Easter eggs with my kids. Sebastian’s hands are currently peony pink and Lily’s are rainbow colored. I showed her your pretty little eggs and she decided we must create them. We have our day planned tomorrow. And looks like there will be quite a lot of baking following the cascarones!

  107. This is so gorgeous…oh man, I want one just like it (the first one.) I am like what? 5 yrs too late LOLOL Maybe one of these days I will get a place to sprinkle glitter and glue and make one too. Wishing for this cute sun shed I saw that I could make into a mini Vanessa room. http://www.bettergreenhouses.com/sunshed88.php
