By evening we are guided by golden light.
Slowly coming to life.
Sweltering days in the desert lead to shady afternoons in the front garden…
Where we are filled with excitement, day to day like clock work, waiting for the sun to set.
Because after record days in a row of triple digit temps, 8:30 p.m. becomes a magical hour.
A time to begin the un-wilting process.
A time to enjoy being outside.
I go around lighting lanterns, candle light…
Plugging in fairy lights…
I listen to things like this and this.
I know, how very romantic Arizona nights of me.
Of course, I switch it up with things most excellent, such as this.
And of course, Stevie visits through speakers too.
And then I plunge.
Full summer desert night immersion.
In hammock, happy as can be.
Fairy lights swinging about…
From that great big mesquite tree…
Summer nights in the desert mountains, so good.
Not one bit of chilliness in the air.
Just plain cozy.
I feel little bodies bumping underneath me.
Little playful growls, first one bump, then two.
Then a head pops up 🙂
We watch giant dahlias sway under twinkle lights…
On these…
Wonderful…
Summer nights.
Zero bugs that bite you are out.
No mosquitoes.
We don't get those until monsoon season.
And even then, they aren't as bad as places that are humid.
Thank goodness.
And since it's been rain free for months, it's dry.
Dry heat.
Sure, you have to lob a couple harmless beetle type things off you a couple times.
But that's no biggie.
🙂
Mister Lovee got home from the office last night, and went straight from his car, into the hammock. I took his shoes off and there he stayed for a good long while.
How's summer going in your neck of the woodlings?
See ya soon.
Love, V

Oh, how I would like to be at your place. We have it rainy and cold here in Germany. And lots of mosquitoes. If we only open the window some come in. My legs are dotted with bites. I think at least one of these devils is waiting in my car for me. And every day in the morning when I get in it uses my blood as its breakfast when I really can’t defend myself. To be in our garden in the evening would be no good idea. So I dreamn of your place and enjoy the romantic photos and your hammock looks just like a very cozy place to indulge in warm summer nights. Have a nice weekend in your heavenly place.
Hot, dry, Arizona, summer, heat makes Queenie’s bones very happy making all the wee aches run away and I feel 20 years younger. The first half of summer is my favorite season in AZ. The intense light throughly drives away any lingering gloom and even the shadiest corners are inviting with a reflective glow.
Your evening garden is a dream land for this time of bug free year. Enjoy!
Have a great day.
Always Queenie
How I would love to share all my little skeeters with you hehehe… I have to dress like a dang bee keeper to do my gardening. Really trying to get my flowers rooted and planted roses..need to plant a few more…so I will be ready one of these years for a mad tea party LOL 🙂 If you’ve had a giant dog like a dane well you know how they love to dig…like trenches in the yard so I am just now trying to build my garden back..Our dane, Hank the cowdog, has been gone for years now…have a little yorkie girl (Jazz) so she doesn’t care to dig or eat all the flowers. 🙂
Loved the music VV…thank you hon 🙂

Deb
Fairy Tale Land.
That is where you live.
Somewhere not in this world.
I do love the desert evenings.
I’m in the desert…but alas ~
The suburbs are not at all a Fairy Tale Land

Ooooohhhhhh! Such loveliness beneath the stars
Es un rincon magico!!

Magical and beautiful! Rain here and soooooo many bad Faeries (mosquitos)!!!!
Magical and beautiful!!! So much rain here, and the Bad Faeries are out (mosquitoes)!!!!
So magical, I just love the lights. Right at dusk I have had fire flies in my garden. Your garden is always a delight to visit. Thanks for sharing. Kathy
I am melting…..Vanessa!!! Love your hammock girl! All your various and beautiful lights would capture any one going near like a moth to a flame! Hammock amongst such wonderful greenery and brilliant flora plus great music and lighting, you have created yourself and the boys a magical Fanciful place!;)
P.S. See your email.
So beautiful!
Yup! Hot here to in Central California too; it was 106 today and is even going to be hotter as the days progress…maybe even 110 by Monday. This may cause a drought in the area, as the snowfall has already melted off the Sierra Mts. The rivers are very, very low and that hasn’t happened in about ten years. But we have the dry heat too so it’s tolerable. ; )
I am drinking twice as much Dr. Pepper as usual with LOTS of ice in it. It is my caffeine fix every day as I don’t drink coffee and only iced tea occasionally. I need to remember lemonade as it does quench the thirst too.
Ta! Ta!
I must finish my hand sculpted Cheshire Cat for the giveaway at the Mad Tea Party!!! Yikes! It is coming up fast!!!

How absolutely delightful! Last August this Idaho girl floated the Colorado River and one night, inside a cave-like grove of tamarisk trees, I pulled out two sets of battery-operated fairy lights and Strung them about. It was incredibly magical and I surprised everyone. Nights were very warm, but like you said, cozy. I slept on a cot and rarely had to pull a sheet over myself for 16 nights! Your pictures really took me back to those wonderful evenings. Thank you for sharing your fantasies with us!!
I would love to adjourn outside, but my backyard stays so hot. Maybe if I have ventured out at about 3 in the morning it starts to cool down, but I am asleep by then for sure.
I do have a hammock on my patio though and that feeling of a dog walking underneath you while you are in the hammock, bumping and trailing along, is one of my absolute favorites! I wish it wasn’t too hot to be out there enjoying it right now.
How beautiful and romantic!! I wish we could spend time on our porch in the evenings, but Maine is a terrible place to sit outside at night in the summer, unfortunately, unless you like being a meal for the bugs! Both Mr. V and I grew up in the West and we were used to sitting outside on summer evenings and honestly, we miss it! We are so jealous of the warm summer so many are having this year because we have had a rainy and cool summer so far. My potted plants on the porch just crave the sun so much that when it does come out, they all have growth spurts! Oh well! The rainy weather has made for lots of days of working on my Mad Tea Party!!! Can’t wait!!
Wishing you, Mr. Lovey and the boys many more twinkling, warm summer nights!
With hugs,
Betty
Wonderful beautiful garden! Can’t wait to see you Mad Tea Party!
Ooooh, how the lights fill that space with even more magicality! So beautiful! We are rather hot here with temps lately over 100, and I mostly keep to the ins of doors! I love scrolling through your pictures, though, and pretending I am right there . . . .
Summer is good here. Would like more sun and a little warmer at night, but not complaining. At least it isn’t snowing!
Your post is ever so inviting. I would love to hang out and admire all of your outdoorsiness.
I am so proud of myself, I walked 3 miles with my daughter this morning and it was amazing.
You take Lovee’s shoes off for him? You are so domestic! 🙂
I’m writing this from Cool Furry Oaks, the new abode, watching it rain through the French doors, three (count ’em, THREE, including one wolf) furry babes curled up near me. There are mosquitoes out that door, but inside, under the twinkle lights (they are colored here, the LED ones, I especially love the blue), it’s just cool and calm and blissful…
I am noticing there is this one tree that looks perfect for an actual Roo’s treehouse! Gonna have to do it…but a hammock, well now, that doesn’t sound like as much manual labor for this lazy girl on a humid Florida day. And though I LOVE colored lights (CJ, he had some before I got here, and we added mine, and it looks like a party now ha ha) there is something mystical and dreamy about little white lights on a dark dark night…..so yeah, it may turn out I’m a copycat. 😉

Oh my gosh – that is magical and my idea of a dream. You’ve made your place so gorgeous and inviting!
Currently here, we are experiencing thunderstorms flowing in from the Yucatan. I enjoy hearing the thunder BOOMING, but it’s humid and muggy, and if you go outside you’ll either get soaking-wet or eaten alive by rabid mosquito’s. Typical lovely Florida weather during our rainy season, lol.
oh, that looks so beautiful!! and i remember how lovely the arizona evenings are…it’s hot as hades here with 180% humidity! just gross. we are looking into moving back out west next year, and i am keeping my fingers crossed for it!!! i’ll miss new orleans, but no mosquitoes sounds fantastic…..
This is such a beautiful and magical place you’ve created in the heat of the desert. I mean, the gardens, the lushness of it all…just such an oasis!! What you’ve created in the evenings is just jaw-dropping. I love, love, love it!!
What an enchanted place you have created. You are so lucky you have no mosquitoes! I suppose there’s something about me they’re attracted to. I am covered head to toe in bites and couldn’t sleep I had to scratch!
I think I would sleep there all night under the stars and faerie lights. We’ve had tons of rain, humid days and nights and lots of mosquitos. Ick…
I love seeing into your world. So lovely!
love & blessings

Beyond Magical, you little Enchantress!!! My mind is now in a happy, warm, fuzzy place 🖤 I adore white Christmas lights in the garden all year long. It is just. so. happy. OOOoo OOooo, me thinks I should make a summer garland with white lights going up my staircase. Wrapped in tulle. What an inspiration you are.
**happy smiles**

I have not been blog visiting for SOOO very long. Oh, this enchanted world you have created!! I too am enjoying these long summer evenings. Hope you are far away from the AZ fires…we too are surrounded by fire, hoping for rain and not just cloudy windy dry storms.
thank you for taking me away!!!!

This is the most lovely place ever!! : )
That sounds absolutely idyllic – and it looks it, too! Thank you for whisking me away into an enchanted world! 🙂
