Art & Treats for You + Dreaming too

Glowing warm evenings, thick herb flavored air…

Dreaming up 4

Petals in the wind…

Shiny summer days.

Dreaming up 6

Antique Mexican tea cups I've had for years.

Wonderful new artwork in my house to frame, by Kimberly Wlassak of Gerushia's New World.

Love that girl.

Her work is so interesting, as I have shared before.

I am so intrigued by her hand collages, all cut and pasted with her own lil' fingers.

Stories told in the piecing together of images.

She takes her own photos or uses antique/vintage photos for all of her work.

Hand coloring each bit, and bringing it all together to tell a tale.

Kim has listed two new original pieces in her shop, you can peek here.

Love them.

(ps:  Just found out, the piece above is on sale in print form, with special pricing, right now - here)

I love art and artists.

I love artist tales.

Their lives.

Don't you?

There is a curious air of mystery to the ideas and conjuring of the creative mind, isn't there?

Speaking of mystery…

As I was getting into bed last night, the full moon illuminated my room in the most enchanting way.

Shining big and blue through the window above my bed.

It's amazing how the moonlight varies.

Yellows, sepia, cooler blue tones, oranges.

Are you loving the moon in your neck of the woods too?

Tonight it should be extra fancy.

Dreaming up 3

The days are still beyond toasty, but late at night – there is a certain magic dancing about.

I have been working feverishly, very long days and nights, on all sorts of Halloween goodies.

The summer has been so practical.

So many chores.

But a sprig of magic has gotten my attention…

Dreaming up 1

(engraving of young witches adding to their cauldron)

Cooler moonlit nights, leave a crisp kiss on the shoulders.

A sign of change ahead.

Summer leaves here very slowly.

Halloween itself tends to be so hot during the day, and freezing parka cold at night.

It's a shift that happens so often, I can't recall it not happening.

Where summer and cold autumn meet up, right on the 31st of the 10th month.

So, summer is here for a while longer.

But late nights beckon, as they sense the seasonal shift more.

Summer summer, in distant sight, an end.

And so, I plunge into some exciting things to share soon…

Dreaming up 5

I am so ready for it.

The magic I mean.

Butterflies, I tell ya.

This week Mister had to work very late one night.

I waited up for him, worried as I get when he works late.

Fretting.

Then I drifted off.

I woke up at 2:30 a.m. to see that all the lights I had left on for him, were still on.

I called him.

Where are you???

He said…

"Dovee, I am so sorry, I forgot my key and didn't want to wake you, so I am sleeping in the cottage."

He had been sleeping up in the cottage loft - how romantic I thought.

I went out to take him a glass of water.

Moonlight guided my way.

It was so queit and other worldly out there at 2: 30 a.m.

The next morning, Mister Lovee agreed.

He said there was something so incredible about sleeping out there.

Like, you have left this world for a smidgen of time.

I don't know about you, but locking myself out of places and such, has a certain amount of excitement to it.

Like when the power goes out at night.

You are forced to light a candle and such.

I don't know why, it sparks something in me.

Speaking of sparks!

Look at the faces on these darlings…

Dreaming up 9

Creations of Queen Creative herself.

One of the most lovely people I have ever met.

Virtually that is.

She sent so many treats for me to gift.

From all the way on the other side of the globe, I might add.

4 packages of little faces, cards stickers, oh yumm!

Yep, I have 4 to give away.

This is what is inside each parcel, and more!

Dreaming up 8

Scrumptious right?

Giveaway time.

Just say howdy in comments to be entered, and 4 folks will receive one of the packages of goodness.

Fun fun!

Well, Monday is a holiday in the US, so have a safe weekend to all.

Holiday or not.

Pizza soon.

It's been too hot to cook though.

So, when I get a break in the temp, pizza oven is on!

Happy Day!

Clink clink!!

Looooooove, V

Sparkly heart

  1. (I’m pausing for a moment from the puppie love swimming video TGIF marathon to post:o) The moon should be extra blue this evening! The full moon tis a wonderous thing.
What beautiful treasure giveaways, wow! Best of luck to all.
I tend to head off to bed way before HoneyMan and from time to time he falls asleep on the couch downstairs and I awake in the middle of the night and he’s not there. I pause for a moment and hear his snores from the lower floor and know all is well.
    Have a wonderful weekend.
    Always, Queenie

  2. Jessica says:

I would love to enter! Thanks for doing so many giveaways lately, V! Hugs and hexes 🙂

  3. karenleigh says:

I love art and artists too. Great giveaway!

  4. Jill James says:

Why does summer seem so long and so short at the same time?
Love the antique Mexican tea cups….

  5. I’ve been so busy with kids of late–7 of us now living in this little house, and it’s been quite cozy (and noisy with all them boys). So I’m happy to finally be able to enter for one of your giveaways.
I love this time of year too–with its earlier darkness and cool nights. Maybe tonight I’ll make a nest and sleep in the garden shed.

  6. RD says:

I can’t imagine having so many treasures under one roof (or two, or three…). It is magical to get a glimpse into your space.

  7. Charlene says:

    Vanessa,
I love this giveaway. Those faces are just incredible. And I can’t wait to see what new things you’ve created.

  8. Chelsy says:

I fret when my hubby isn’t home on time. I try not to call him for fear of nagging, but I can’t help it! What if he’s stuck in a ditch unable to dial for help, but has just enough mobility to click ‘Answer’ when I call him to ask if he’s Ok… Oh, how I fret.
Beautiful flowers, as always! And what adorable little darlings in the artwork! How fun!

  9. I tried to post earlier but it may not have worked. Anyway, hi! I’m excited to see what you are brewing up for Halloween. Blessings!

  10. Beautiful!! Wonderful teacups! Love Queen Creative’s and Kim’s art… I’m quite fond of anthropomorphic (I think I just like the word…:) animal folk, myself! Can’t wait to see what you’re working on for Halloween – I’m getting ready to concoct some things myself – 🙂
Did I tell you I’m a 2-minutes before Halloween Birthday girl? LOL – so yes, it is my fave!
    Happy Blue Moon, Miss V.!
Hugs, Anne & the 3 Amigos

  11. Michelle says:

I’m waiting patiently to see some more of your art Vanessa. The giveaways are beautiful!

  12. Bibi says:

    Love this give away ^_^

  13. natalea says:

I’m loving the cooler moonlit nights as well! Every time of the year is so special in itself. And sleeping in a little cottage sounds wonderful…
Love the Queen Creative work- very magical!
Have a great weekend Vanessa, xo natalea

  14. Miss Linda says:

I know very well how worried that one gets when someone is very late. My husband use to work nights and when he didn’t come home by the time he said that he will be home. I would stand at the window and wait till he turned the corner and into the driveway. I worried many nights.
Unfortunitaly I couldn’t photgraph the blue moon last night. The high clouds made it impossible. You couldn’t see it at all.
You always have the most wonderous giveaways. Please count me in.
Thank you for sharing your wonderous life.

  15. Melanie says:

Ahh…to sleep in the magical cottage. Is that the first time Mr. Lovee has done that? What a treat it must have been! Especially during the Blue Moon. Wasn’t it magnificent? So mysterious and lovely. I forgot that a Blue Moon is a full moon that happens twice during a calendar month. It made me do research on the Native American names of the full moons. In May, they called it the Full Flower Moon. How lovely is that? Here’s the link from the Farmer’s Almanac: http://www.farmersalmanac.com/full-moon-names/

  16. Annalee says:

Your mister is sweet, not wanting to wake you. ^-^
It’s seemingly Autumn here now… time for hoodies and flannel shirts. I went to Las Vegas two weeks ago & by the time I got five days later, the Summer was gone… Hmmm…
I don’t mind so much though, as I madly love Autumn. ^-^
    XOXO

  17. eleni says:

    wonderful post!!!and fantastic givaway!!!

  18. Carrie says:

I cant wait for fall to come! I love moonlit nights, getting cozy, and just all the wonderful things fall has to offer.
And, I do have to agree, Your doing so many giveaways. its AWESOME! fingers crossed over here!!!!

  19. Kim says:

    Vanessa:
You are above and beyond the sweetest gal ever born! Thank you for sharing my work. I love the silver frame you chose for “The Uninvited”.
I’m swooning over your antique Mexican teacups. I love all sorts of tea-like things. I collect teapots myself!

    Hi!
I love checking in on your special world! You are such a busy woman!
    Your dogs and garden are so beautiful, and I love seeing all of the creative things you do/create. I don’t know the person who this link I’m sending you belongs to, but it looks like a super easy, quick and cute “collar” you could whip up for Miles and Mattie. I would love to see pictures of your sweet boys if you make these for them :*}
Thanks for the chance at the fun giveaway!

  28. How Romantic… sleeping in a Cottage Loft! And yes, I too am ready for the change in Seasons. Autumn is such a Glorious Season in the Desert, my Favorite in fact!
    Dawn… The Bohemian

  29. Renee says:

The cottage loft sounds like a wonderful place. Fairy tale spot.
Autumn is in the air, leaves here in there are beginning to change color, mornings cooler, I put out my fall decorations and have been adding to the Halloween collection.

  30. G.G. Pinkster says:

And when I walk a tale to tell
‘Who I ask will meet the grail.
A chalice a cup lost in the wind.
A give away and another win.
And in the building of abounded dreams,
Tea and coffee a pastry which seems-
    To call unfettered runaway schemes.
A memory a moment unlike the rest,
A red cardinal landing on my chest.
I roll and turn to look across,
The garden in a desert lost.
Miss V. + Lovee and the fur babies
Warm the heart of forgotten dreams.

  31. Chris says:

Now, this is one of the most romantic posts I’ve ever read.

  32. Oooo! What a lovely post, Vanessa. Sorry Mr. Lovee got locked out of the house. But it sounded like he survived with you taking good care of him.
Oh! What lovely giveaway gifts! I like the one with the two girls and the cupcakes! Divine! I love it when some of your bloggers add poems to their comments. Poems draw me in instantly and I get lost in the mystery of them.
We have had amazing weather this weekend…crazy weather…only getting up to 85 degrees…whereas it was 108 only two weeks ago. But this is rare and I know we will again be up into the hundreds all the way into October too.
    XXOO
    Miss Teresa

  33. Linnea-Maria says:

Thank you for all the beauty you share and for the inspiration you give! I wan’t to create!!!

  34. Cameron says:

I wish I had a cottage to disappear to on magical nights like that……sleeping in enchantment…..no one to steal the covers…..haha 😀
…and a hearty Howdy….heehee….I’d be most grateful if you counted me in 🙂

  35. Betty says:

    Dearest Dear Vanessa,
As always, all of your posts just make my heart soar with happiness! I’m trying to catch up on some long-neglected blogging this morning and you were the first I just had to visit! I love your musings about the Moon! Mr. V and I are huge fans as well. When he spies it out the window, he says (in his pretend scary voice), “There’s a moon in the sky….called The Moon…” and then we start on all of our silliness! We turn off lights, sit in moonlight, pretend to fight over who has more moonlight on them and make up stories! The clouds were all gauzy and the moon kept disappearing. It looked just like The Moon was getting ready for bed by getting all comfy in the best, most fluffy clouds, huge cotton-puffs in the sky! It’s fun to watch, but it’s how you know that the weather is turning colder again (seems like in this part of Maine, the weather just can’t wait to do this.) But the good side is the making warm food again side! Yay for pizza! I found a super-easy recipe for potato and rosemary pizza that we will be trying out soon!
Thank you so much for reminding us to appreciate every season and make the best of each one!
    Biggest hugs,
    Betty

  36. Angela says:

I had friends visiting from America during the big beautiful full moon and it was glorious! We went up into the hills and had a night picnic overlooking the valley. I was so happy it didn’t rain that night to hide all that loveliness! As always, your post was wonderful and full of that magic that we all love 🙂

  37. Carl V. says:

    “I love art and artists.
    I love artist tales.
    Their lives.
    Don’t you?
There is a curious air of mystery to the ideas and conjuring of the creative mind, isn’t there?”
Yes, and YES! I get such a thrill out of seeing an artist’s creative space, reading about their process, hearing about what inspires them. It doesn’t peel back the mystery, it instead adds more layers to it. I love that.
I was outside on this glorious Labor Day, a gift in the form of a “free day”, taking in the bit of the day that feels like a cross between spring and fall before the heat comes on that reminds me that it is still summer. I had just finished a book I’ve been slowly reading aloud to my wife and daughter, Bill Bryson’s “The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid”, and was thinking about how much his memoirs of growing up in a small Iowa town in the 50’s gelled with my own remembrances of growing up in a small Nebraska town in the 70’s and I was getting ready to be chased in by the heat of the day. I came in planning to not turn on the computer and was wondering what I could go do, briefly, that would encapsulate the wonderful feelings I was having and it instantly popped into my head to come visit you.
I don’t get over here often enough, something I hope subscribing through Google+ Reader will help, but whenever I do I come away feeling as if you, as shown through your site, have captured some of the magic that I look for in my day to day life. I believe it is there to be found but few are willing to take the effort to cultivate it, to look for it, to nurture it and then to enjoy it when it is there. You are one of those few and I both appreciate the kindred spirit and look to you as inspiration.
So here is just a little ‘thanks’ again for what you share and for the firefly glow you bring to a summer’s evening and the brightness you bring to each and every day when you give of the life that you and your husband (and adorable ‘kids’) share.
I am pining for Autumn and am keen with anticipation over what you have to share as the season changes, especially as we enter the Halloween season in October. Hope you are having a wonderful day.

  38. Kim says:

    Vanessa:
Thanks for adding the update regarding “The Uninvited.” Unfortunately Zibbet, my shop venue, was down for the entire day yesterday. I saw folks click on the link in my statcounter, but no one could get in. Zibbet is back up today, so, if it’s okay, I’ll add the link here again… http://www.zibbet.com/GerushiasNewWorld/artwork?artworkId=968137 I am still offering the print for a special price.
I am so sad that my shop was down for 22 hours! 🙁
Thank you for all your kindness and all the good things you do for artists. Thank you for the inspiration that you share!
    xoxo
