It is so nice outside, and feels sooooo good to be out there. Not just physically good, but emotionally delicious…
It is warm, 72' F.
(22.2' C)
Sunny warm rays that do so bewitch.
I suppose it is safe to tell you a little secret…
There is a place you will find us at a quarter past two on Friday, and Thursday, and perhaps even Wednesday too?
Hanging from a tree, in that warm of warmest Arizona sun…
Reading Robert Louis Stevenson…
Dreaming.
Sitting still.
An inner peace I have been searching for since I was 16 has found me.
I can sit still for an hour, entranced with thoughts of nothingness…
Not move.
Just listen to the birds, and breathe.
Then maybe read a little, and…
Dream of spring, and fairies and hollyhocks and bees…
The sun is oh so warm, and the breeze cool, brisk even.
Kisses your toe, your shoulder, your nose…
Blissful moments.
Almost silly good, if you know what I mean.
Sun, birds, warmth, hammock.
Wake me up, please!
Or, maybe don't.
🙂
I listen to a cd playing in the distance. A cd I have had for 10 years or more. Filled with beautiful ethereal songs, that take you away in the greatest drift of feelings and calm. I always flip the cd on when I go out onto my back porch. The songs, heard so many times, feel like a part of me in my outside world. Where time stops and I just re-energize.
I didn't even know if I could find the cd online, but I did. With sample tunes too. Here it is, Sound healing by Dean Evenson. So, that is what I have been listening to, almost every day for 10 years or more (along with a few others, but that one is constant). With my fountain on and the birds chirping, it's just so yummy.
So, back to hammock days…
Music flowing in the breeze…
The mountains hovering so beautifully…
Silly perfect, you see?
A tattered favorite straw hat. My constant companion in the sun…
And to think, just a few days ago, it was snowing?
The boys play and sleep all day…
Begging me to be done with my silly human games –
And get back to my real duties.
Like furry hugs, and belly scratches.
Everyone wants to jump on my lap and snuggle. Which is sort of difficult on a hammock. So, I get refueled, and then…
Skip away…
Telling my hammock, I'll see you again soon, if I can sneak away 😉
Where would you be right at this very moment? If you could be anywhere? And, what would you be doing?
I wonder that sometimes.
Close my eyes and think, where would I be now, if I could be anywhere?
What would I be doing???
I think, back in my hammock, in that warm sun, without one care in the world sneaking up on me.
Yes yes, that is where I would be.
But, maybe on a deserted warm beach too, searching for seashells. Oh yes! But only if I could come back home in the blink of an eye, and bring my treasures found with me 😉
You?
Love, V
ps: I popped some new cards into my shop yesterday. I have been keeping them quiet for a couple months now- until it felt like just the right moment to share.
And, for some reason it feels like it now.
The cards are commercial quality – just lovely in person, with a satin finish. They have so many uses, from thank yous to anything really. I have sent a couple out myself. I should send snail mail more often. It is so much fun to give and receive, isn't it?
Roses (from my garden)
And…
A Tuft of Stars –
Both photographs taken in my garden by me, and turned into cards.

Vanessa:
It is truly lovely in our neck of the woods today, isn’t it? Well, I’m in So. Cal and you’re in Arizona, but still, we share the same sunshine!
If I could be anywhere in the world right this minute it would be on the dirt road going from my Aunt Eula’s house up to my Aunt Alice’s house….way, way up in the hills of the Ozarks! One of the most beautiful places in the world!
You know what’s odd? You used the term “in the blink of an eye” in your post today. So weird that that’s actually the title of my blog post today! Funny coincidence!

Kim you doll, we are kindred!! Oh, would you take me with you??
On hat little road? I bet it is magical!! xoxo
If I could be anywhere in the world right now, I would choose to be in a little cottage in a gypsy garden filled with roses, like yours 🙂 Your roses are so beautiful! My breath was taken away!
I hope you are enjoying your carefree days 🙂 I love those moments–immersed in a good book, in your special place. That is the best moment.
Enjoy your weekend, dearie!
xoxo Jess
Vanessa, you would love it there…on that meandering dirt road. There is nothing like the green and the earthy scent after a summer thunderstorm, walking along my aunt’s old dirt road!
Makes me homesick, even though I never actually lived there. But, it’s so deeply embedded in my heart that it will always be my home in some ways.
xoxo
Oooo! 72 degrees is perfect weather! Not too hot and not too cool.
I love the ocean! I miss the ocean! I grew up only eight miles from the beach and it was so easy to just drive for 15 minutes to get there.
So, you guessed it! It would also be the beach for me if I could be anywhere else right now. I love the keening of the sea gulls and the salty ocean air. I’ve been listening to old Beatles music lately…Wonderwall music by George Harrison. And of course I love what Paul McCartney is doing today with his Fireman Album…he is a genius as ever.
I will have to listen to Sound Healing…it sounds like it would be relaxing music.
Smiles 😉
Miss Teresa
What a beautiful, relaxing space you have! It’s been pretty & warm too here this week. If I could be anywhere? It would be on a quiet beach, no warmer than 80′ and a Cabana boy to bring the drinks! The ocean is like therapy for me and I adore the sunrise and sunsets there as well as walking along and discovering magical sea shells.
Oh, my! Yes, in the blink of an eye I’d love to be there ~
Your roses are spectacular! I will be happy when I can have flowers without fear of another freeze.
Enjoy your weekend!
xo

Love your hammock pics! The one with your feet towards the sky is dreamy! Gosh, in order to have a hammock here in North Carolina, I’d need to have a screen around it… the bugs are killer! 😉 Your cards are beautiful, too! Enjoy your weekend… hope you can get back out there in the sunshine with the pups!
This sounds luscious. I wished I enjoyed being outdoors as much as you do, but it is a little different when you’re right in the middle of Phoenix. Still, with weather like we’ve had recently, I enjoy being outside looking at my recent plantings to see how they’re doing and hearing the church bell in the distance. Heaven.
I would be on a hammock too but it would be on a beach with the sounds of the waves nearby as my music. I’d be steps away from my beachfront studio….a studio that would have all the windows and doors flung open for the breezes. This way when I have recharged there on the hammock on the beach…perhaps reading or just daydreaming….I could take that inspiration back to the studio and still here the music of the waves. Ah that would be nirvana!
My parents have the BEST porch swing. It’s absolutely my most favorite place in the world. If it’s 50 degrees I’ll get a blanket. If it’s 100 degrees I’ll turn on the fan. I can stay there for hours. It’s my Wonderland.
As I type this it’s 24 degrees no sign of Spring and won’t be until June so no use looking for it through the snow. I have a CD that I liked to play when I had fairy teas, so I know what you mean about to love one so much.
What a pretty hammock! I would probably choose your hammock too as my place to be if I had it. In fact I would choose your whole garden! I do have a hammock that my parents brought me from mexico, but I have no where to hang it since my new yard has only one tree. Poor hammock, it will get used eventually. I can sit for a long time too, just thinking and being peaceful. Mister B is usually like “what are you doing?!” he doesn’t quite understand and thinks I am just staring off into space. Silly.
What a beautiful way to spend an afternoon!
I love moments like that, just turning away from all the noise of the regular world for a little while can be so refreshing!
One of my favourite memories growing up was spending hours and hours on the garden swing, so peaceful and carefree.
Your photos as always are beautiful and you must be so proud of your garden, thanks for sharing it with us!
Nikki xx
What a lovely post you’ve written. I can almost here the birds singing and feel the gentile breeze blowing. Oh how I long for the spring time of the year. We got 6 inches of snow yesterday but I think it’s mother natures last great act of defiance. We have only three more weeks till spring.
Ahhh I long for the spring!!! It amazes me every time to see the tiny crocus emerge out from under the ground each spring. This to me is a constant reminder of just how powerful our beautiful Earth is. Thanks for sharing the music link….very lovely indeed.
~~Hugs my dear Vanessa

Ah! You have that lovely hammock that I have dreamed about owning for years and years and years. Alas, me own wee garden has no trees to swing from so I’ll be content to dream about yours swaying in the cool afternoon breeze.
We too have been enjoying warm sunshine and cool breezes mingled with the sweet sound of birdsongs. Why just last night, at what I like to call Magic Hour, I was in the garden nestled on the Adirondack when two tiny hummingbirds came out to dance in the blooming jasmine overhead. I’ve never seen such wee ones before as they were about 1/2 an inch long. SO sweet!!!
I hope you have the most lovely Saturday ever and please give your fur babies a big hug for me.
Much love to you, my Beloved Fanciful Vanessa <3
Everything you show is amazingly beautiful! I have a hammock and it doesn’t look that perfect!
What a perfectly blissful day. Is that book A Children’s Garden of Verses? 🙂 We had a most lovely day Thursday – so balmy and I found two pretty little crocuses in the yard. When I arose Friday morning there was SNOW on the ground once more! Ah…so spring is in hiding yet again. Your cards are extremely lovely – such pretty bursts of the season yet to come! Enjoy your Sunday, dear friend!
Miss Theresa, it certainly is!!One of my most beloved books. It
is so so so lovely. Happiest of Sundays to you too xoxo
Treasured moments, it is so delightful to sit and just listen to the beautiful sounds of nature. Thank you for sharing those moments…you are awsome Vanessa…..smiles……
I have a song for you! I thought of it immediately when I read this post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Gkf3woCRac
It reminds me of exactly that peace you get when laying in the sun, just resting and “being”. It takes me somewhere. I hope you enjoy it 😉
There was a lizard who loved the sun,
He basked all day until he was done.
He trode and strode across the land,
To dig and dig amongst the sand.
Right above hime in steady flight,
A fairy soared with all her might.
She loved the lizard all sandy brown,
His spots and claws digging down.
Whiz bang and down she landed fast,
Right in the lizards digging path.
He rose right up and stooped right down,
The fairy jumped and sang a sound.
The lizard listened and bowed down,
Taking her hand as he dug around.
Deeper, deeper into the earth they went,
The root babies were sprouting all heaven sent.
The fairy bewildered was in the earth night,
Underground she was without light.
And as she looked and gleamed true,
Sparkling gems sparkled like dew.
ANd there in the silence shining bright,
Was a root who wiggled tight.
They grabbed a hold and climbed right up,
And where did they land but in a flower cup.
In a garden in the desert, surrounded with love,
Where the dream is like cream in tea…flying like a dove.
Ooooo… I love hammocks, althogh I tend to fall out of them on occasion. ^-^
I can’t wait until it warms up here… I’m ready for warmth & light & longer days.
If I could be anywhere, I’d be at the beach, on my favorite rock, basking in the hot sun. Hope you’ve had a marvelous weekend! =D
XOXO
You’re posts are always so wonderfully inspirational and the glimpse of beautiful sunshine in the US has brightened up a cold grey day here in Wales! Thankyou xx
We have a hammock but it is not so pretty.
Where would I be, somewhere with sand and the ocean and a hammock tied between 2 trees, my family playing on the beach.
Awesome hammock! I love the crochet/lacey detail… Super wonderful! This weekend was wonderful perfect Arizona winter weather. Honey Man and me took the Delicious of a few walks and enjoyed this yummy weather before the heat sets in.
Have a wonderful week!
Always, Queenie
Hmm. . . if I could be anywhere, I would be in a secret garden in the back of beyond, gathering roses, delphiniums and camellia’s to grace my home. Instead I’m snuggling in before the latest storm hits- gonna be a doosey the weather man says! So it’s Oatmeal cookies and Chicken Soup time! And maybe some Irish Breakfast tea. . .
Ahhh . . . What a relaxing post! We used to have a hammock when I was growing up. Your words and photos bring back nice memories.
We see many signs of spring around us here in north Texas. It will be here before we know it!
Your new cards are very pretty!
Sounds lovely to bask in the sun under a hammock.
If I could be any where right now, I take my sweet family to Tahiti. We can bask in the sun and crystal blue waters. Have days of pure bliss. Sigh…
🖤
{{ what a very satisfying posting,
i must say!
although,
i am right where
i want to be
at this EXACT moment
in time.
isn’t life grand! }}
What a lovely post! I would like to be in a hammock on the beach, but I like the idea of a great porch swing too.
Where does one find a hammock as lovely as this one? I’ve never seen such a pretty one. Wishing you more Spring days like this.
Vanessa, you’re photos are wonderful! If I could be anywhere I would be on the porch swing at my mom and dad’s old homeplace. I used to love sitting there gentlly swining and watching the breeze flowing through the trees. It’s so relaxing. Nothing in the world like it. I love your book. Just the perfect reading for such a day.
I’m dreaming about dozing off on a hammock this afternoon. Oh, well…at least in my thoughts.
